My wife and each had the cheeseburger plate with half and half French fries and onion rings. So-o-o much good food and much more than either of us could eat! The waitresses kept up with our tea refill needs. The place is a good ole side-of-the-road diner - plenty of good food and worrying about the decor comes second. There are car license plates on the walls and these kept me entertained while waiting for our meal. We went here after reading some other reviews and it did not disappoint. Even though we live about 60 miles away, we plan to return. It was worth the hour-and-a-half trip. read more

Good burgers and really good wings ! I'm on crutches and have no problem getting in or out of the place. I will say this, the crew there is superb ! Friendly as can be and make sure you don't get the chance to get thirsty. Old license plates from all around as well as some movie posters decorat the walls. Food was meh. Fish was super greasy. French fries were like Ore-Ida from the grocery store. Texas toast was not toasted. Service was horrible. I never received a fork which only mattered a little as I never received the cole slaw either. Heard good remarks about the hamburger but that was it. Probably not returning. I was in town on business, and when studying prospects on Google maps, I sometimes look at local restaurants and this one popped up and got my attention. I've been coming to Greenwood for about 40 years and had never heard of this place, but I will be back. I was reading a review that said the fish was greasy. Here's a tip for you, partner, the name of the place is Cheeseburger House, it ain't Fish House. So what do I order? Why a Cheeseburger of course, but I made it a double all the way as a plate, which comes with slaw and crinkle cut fries. The slaw was home made almost like I would make it myself and the fries were hot crispy and not greasy, but the burger was WOW! All the way is with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles. This thing was so humongous that my jaw popped trying to stuff it in my mouth. The meat was moist and juicy and the toppings were fresh. It is a feast to behold. I had an exact same order with my brother two days prior at a pub in Charlotte and it cost $3.00 more for a single with no slaw and wasn't half as good. It's far superior to the highly hyped Shake Shack (see my reviews) and Five Guys, where when you order fries you get a sack o grease along with an empty wallet. Right up front let me state that this isn't the place for the kale salad/spinach smoothie crowd. It's a burger joint. Everything was made to order and delicious. It's a place most people might be tempted to drive by and write off as a "dive". It was built in 1963 and doesn't seem to have been updated since. We considered that to be part of the charm. I will admit that others might consider it dingy and run down but the food! Those 4 and a half stars say a lot. We had burgers and opted for onion rings. The onion rings were homemade and golden brown and crisp. The old fashioned cheeseburgers were juicy. We also had the sweet and spicy wings which were advertised as "jumbo" and were quite large and meaty. Sauce was yummy with just the right notes of heat and sweet. We also shared the fried pickles. They are spears instead of circles which was different but my daughter declared them "delightful". Our server couldn't have been sweeter. I think their business is mainly regulars as the first thing she asked was "Do y'all need a menu?". Be warned that if you order a double burger you might have to unhing your jaws to eat it! Hands down the best burger in South Carolina. The nicest wait staff and they don't skimp out on the size of the burger and the sides for the price. You leave with an full stomach and a happy soul. The decorations are also adorable, the walls are adorned with license plates from all over the US and old posters with "vote for Kennedy" or "vote for nixon" on them. it's such a lively and fun spot and I can't wait to visit again. read more

I would be shocked if someone in Greenwood would actually need this review, but for out of towners, people passing through, or the plain curious this is a quick place to grab a burger and fries. It gets pretty crowded during lunch, and space is limited, so either go early, or late or you'll be spending as much time waiting for a seat as you will for your food. read more

Top top service. I had the "Original" cheese burger plate with unsweetened tea. The burger wasn't really to my taste though as I want to say they had put slaw on it. Would I go back yes I would as I would like to try something else to see how that compares. read more

I wouldn't even give a 1 star if I had the option. I didn't have high expectations to begin with, figured a typical hole in the wall place, nothing fancy. However this was the worst food I've eaten in the east coast. We ordered for a family of four and even my kids couldn't eat the hot dog or grilled cheese. The bun on the burgers were super soggy, Cole slaw was runny and smelled spoiled. The onion rings were decent. The fries were cold and soggy. It was all just terrible. We waited an hour for our food. I would eat McDonald's over this place anyday. read more

I have been eating here all of my life. I love their cheeseburgers! It is a must that you try one! Their Philly cheese-steak is one of the best in town and with a side of onion rings it is the bomb! The cheeseburger king of greenwood! I am hooked! To me as a kid the Hash house had the best Cheeseburgers, when I grew up it had closed down and remains closed, the next really remarkable cheeseburger was Charles McCutcheons at the Cheeseburger house. I have practically eat every thing on his menu and it is loaded with great items from Catfish dinners to philley cheese steaks. With charlie always giving more fries than most people can handle you are assured to never leave hungry, The cheeseburgers are supposed to be 1/3 pounders but typically lean closer to being 1/2 pounders Thick and juicy and never dry or undercooked. On the average you will spend less money and eat more at the Cheeseburger house than any of the fast food chains. whats not to like about getting good value for your money. read more

I can't believe that I've lived my entire life and Greenwood and never gone to the cheeseburger house before. I went Friday, October 18, 2013 at about 5 o'clock after reading about it on Yelp and it was quite busy and a lot of people were there dining in. I placed an order and decided to take a look around. It's definitely a lot bigger than the front of the building makes it look. There is a back room with about six or so nice size tables and license plates on the wall from all over North America as well as some really cool pictures of JFK, and Nixon. The pictures of the Presidents looked authentic so asked the person at the counter how long the building and been there. They responded that this business is been here for 50 years. (They technically and actually stated that they opened in 1963.) by the time I had walked around and explored the back room my food was ready. I would say after I completed my order that it was maybe three minutes before my order was ready. I a got to-go order. For my first try I try to cheeseburger, slaw, fries and tea. From the girl who took my order ask if I had to go half-and-half. I got a onion rings and fries and took my order to go. It was quite obvious that everything was cooked fresh after I ordered it. The onion rings were crisp the onions tasted fresh and were delicious. The tomato and lettuce on the burger was fresh and a hamburger tasted like real burger as stated on the menu as opposed to some of the half soy stuff that you get sometimes. The french fries were crinkle cut were really good and warm and had just the right amount of salt on them. It really hit the spot. I'm definitely going back and I'll probably take them with me next time it's good eats and I would highly recommend it when you are in the mood for a good down-home fast food.
