If you like sushi, and I've had it all over the world, and a quiet, simple local spot owned by a wonderful lady who is doing nothing but expanding and writing the way of foodies in the South Carolina area. We were the best of luck and hope she opens a spot up in Cleveland, South Carolina, where we're heading. I was in the area for work and decided to stop by for lunch, and I'm so glad I did! The restaurant is beautifully decorated, creating a welcoming atmosphere from the moment you walk in. My server was friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout my meal. I started with the spring rolls, then ordered the lunch special, which included a fresh salad and the Hollywood specialty hand roll. The salad was surprisingly large and absolutely delicious! I also ordered a rainbow roll, not realizing how generous the lunch portions were, but it was excellent as well. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. I read a lot about this restaurant before going and was really excited. The menu is HUGE, I took pictures but im sure i am missing at least 10 pages. The place is cute. Staff was really nice and attentive. The issue was their special sushi was just not working for me! I took pictures but no way that fits in your mouth even for a half bite. This place is so good if you like a fusion style - it's great sushi, burgers, and interesting combos of both. I had the sushi burger which is basically fried rice patties as the bun and spicy tuna in the middle. So good and unique! The sweet potato fries were also awesome. Small, very casual vibe and fills up quickly with limited space. Looking forward to trying the new downtown Greenville location because it apparently Has different menu and also Korean bbq! Chef 21 is a cute little restaurant in Simpsonville. It t is the former home of The Mad Cuban. I have been there a few times and always enjoyed it. My favorite item to order is the AvocadoGrenade. It is very good. It is a fried avocado with a big scoop of spicy crab and Daikon (shredded radishes) with eel sauce. I have also ordered several sushi rolls and they all tasted great. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside they are creating UNIQUE items for people seeking exciting cuisine. I am blown away by some the ideas being thrown around on this menu. I have never seen a coconut sushi roll before, but it was genuinely the best roll I have had in a long time. The Bulgogi Sushi burger was good, a little more greasy than I'd like, but the beef and kimchi together created a phenomenal flavor. I wish I could have tried more of these unique items, especially the BOOZY BOBA! Aside from the food, the restaurant was extremely well taken care of and they even decorated it with some nice Halloween decor for the season. The service was also great, granted I was by myself. My server was extremely attentive and made sure I had everything I needed at all times. In the area for work and had a taste for Sushi! My hair stylist told me about this spot so today was a great day to try it out. Since it was later in the evening, I ordered online for pickup. My order was ready within minutes of my arrival. I was greeted and helped almost immediately. I ordered the Hollywood Roll and crab Rangoons. Both were good. The Rangoons barely had crab meat in them. I tasted mostly cream cheese. I'll try a different appetizer next time. It seemed nice inside with a outdoor seating area. I'll definitely return. Update 9/4/21 - came here for an early dinner and as usual was not disappointed!!! The burger and rolls were great and it was some of the best kimchi I've ever had. Side note: my father was in Korea from 1951 to 1953 and became friends with some locals who taught him how to make kimchi. This was some of the best I've had since my fathers recipe. Really neat twist on a sushi bar. Creative and trendy yet family friendly. This place was super crowded and a tight fit, plan ahead if your dining in and give yourself 30 minutes to wait for a seat. They could really use another 500 square feet at a minimum. Barely enough room to squeeze by to sit. We were a party of 4 and another party of 2 were added to our to our table (we offered) because it was so crowded they were blocking the exit. I will definitely go back if I'm ever in the area again though, so many items on the menu that I still want to try. Sushi burgers! Sashimi, sake, salads, just to name a few. Really friendly staff & the service was way better than you'd expect for such a crowded place. Our server was great. This place was also preparing takeout. If I could rate this place a zero I would!! I ordered the bulgogi bowl, a valentine roll, and a kids tonkatzu ramen(for my son). After waiting around an hour to be seated we ordered our meals with our drinks.. we waited for about another 35 minutes for our food when at this point the restaurant was relatively empty!! After waiting for food for about an hour and a half at this point (including the wait time) Kids ramen was lukewarm, and tasted as though it had been sitting out for hours, bulgogi bowl was extremely disappointing.. the sweetest bulgogi meat I've ever had and I've tried a large variety, sushi was definitely frozen or stored in a fridge for a day or two as well!! Tasted more like a dessert than a savory dinner. After informing the waitress Amanda about our experience she gave us an extremely condescending response..With that being said i never once was informing her of our negative experience with the hopes of getting the food taken off of our bill, we were just trying to offer some helpful notes of how it could improve. We also could hear everything that was going on in the kitchen and our server Amanda was yelling and cussing at ANOTHER SERVER in the kitchen.. but my 8 year old son and I could very much hear clearly what was being said. Hearing what was said definitely affected her tip and honestly continued to ruin our experience. Never had anything like it and it was really good! Amy tried the shrimp madness burger - which she really enjoyed. I was tempted by a number of the menu items - like the soft-shell crab sandwich - but was in the mood for sushi, so the sushi for one is what I ordered. My dinner came with a California roll, which was okay. It really didn't stand out that much and I was expecting a bit more after the uniqueness of the other items. The sushi itself though was probably some of the best I've ever had. It was super fresh and served at the perfect temperature - not ice cold like at some sushi places. They don't have a huge selection of fish, but what they have is absolutely the best. One thing this place really cries out for is a full bar.
