Fun restaurant and bar in the Reading, PA area!…read more My friends and I were traveling through Pennsylvania and we wanted dinner, a place to watch a football game, and good food/beer. We found Brewer's on Yelp and and were very happy with our visit. Brewer's had a local feel to do it and a lively atmosphere for a Thursday night. The food menu has a large selection of different types of food so almost anyone can find something to eat. Great selection of beer with a lot of regional offerings. Also seem to run a special for different types of alcohol for most nights of the week ($6 large draft IPA beer on Thursday night). I ordered the brisket meatloaf sandwich that came with BBQ sauce and gouda cheese on top. The sandwich was very tasty and I especially enjoyed the pretzel roll it was served on. I liked that I was able to substitute a side of perogies instead of chips. The moon ranch grilled chicken sandwich was a little underwhelming and the moon sauce was the only positive to that sandwich. The service was good and our server checked back in with us multiple times during our visit. There's also a beer outlet with a large selection of craft beer attached to the restaurant so you can take local craft beer home with you. They call themselves a small place with the BIG selection!

Our waitress, who chose to wear air pods, was crass and impolite. She was sarcastic in a negative way towards one of the members in my party about their drink choice. She also stunk of heavy cigarette smoke and was coughing all over the place. The food was nothing special - just standard bar food. However, the prices here are outrageous! Unfortunately, it's just not worth going here when I can go elsewhere and get a real meal, not just bar food. I'm actually sad that I have to leave a negative review. In the men's bathroom, the sink has next to no water pressure and they were out of soap. I wonder how the employees wash their hands... On a positive note, the food was served fresh and hot!

We raved about the pierogies all night and my risotto and scallops were delicious! Our bartender and server was actually the owner of the restaurant and she was incredibly pleasant and her service was phenomenal! Definitely make your way out for delicious food and drinks! Very admirable and apparently they do this often to support other causes, as well. We were happy to dine at a restaurant that cares about the local community. That's what got me (& my wife) in the door. Now, for the brass tacks: Atmosphere: Very nice looking place. Clean. Lively. Loved the front window open on a warm day and the outdoor seating as we walked in. Service: Hostess and Server were both very friendly, attentive and helpful. Both checked in on us, often. Which, for us, is super important not to feel forgotten. No problem here. Food: Uncorkd Burger (sub grilled chicken), Vegetable Risotto w/Salmon, Cheesesteak Egg Rolls, Homemade Vanilla Bread Pudding Cake & Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake. My wife said, convincingly, that the Grilled Chicken Burger was good. (and that's saying something. (She's super picky about chicken sandwiches) My Vegetable Salmon Risotto was terrific. Fresh, bright, creamy, & flavorful. The salmon may have been cooked slightly over, but only slightly. Cheesesteak Egg Rolls were very good. Not made in-house. The desserts were delicious. Bread pudding with Caramel Drizzle! Oh my! Light & Delicious. Stick Toffee Pudding Cake with a decadent dark chocolate sauce. Delightful. We took those desserts to go and had them at home. Delicious. Terrific experience, tonight. I would go back in a heartbeat. Certainly would recommend. 4.2

The building is in the old Vanity Fair complex, so it has high ceilings and plenty of parking spaces. They have a nice size bar, but we sat at a table inside. There was live music outside on the patio, but we only realized it when we left. The brunch menu had a selection of offerings, including mimosas and yummy chicken and waffles! The regular menu with appetizers and sandwiches was still available too. The service was quick and the food was delicious. Nice beer selection and mixed drinks too! Throw in some TVs, a big U-shape bar for maximum area, thus making it my favorite bar shape. Have you ever been standing in one of those straight-line bars, and you're about three layers of people away from even sniffing the bar. It's claustrophobic, it creates a needless bottleneck, it feels like you're about to be crushed. Not here. It's open with super high ceilings. You can go outside and play cornhole in the crisp fall air. The whole place is easily accessible either by using the parking lot out front or the even bigger parking lot in the rear. I think there is some sort of hidden ballroom downstairs for private events. Every now and then you see a whole wedding procession just casually stroll on through. I guess it's the hot destination, which makes total sense when you take a step back and can see Sly Fox for what it truly is, which is your cookie cutter craft brewery bar experience you've seen countless times up and down the eastern seaboard. I gotta give it to them, Sly Fox was one of the few breweries to break through to kind of the ultimate level. To the point where it goes well beyond just having your beer appear in local bar taps, but to be the establishment itself, and in this case, a successful chain of them. With its headquarters in Pottstown, it's always nice to see success stories like these with local roots. I will look back and think fondly of these days before it becomes a giant evil mega corporation snuffing the life out of smaller startup breweries like it once was by the dozen. Until then, might as well enjoy the ride.

After much anticipation, the Primo's in Wyo finally opened with a celebration that involved a…read moreribbon-cutting ceremony and a visit from not one, but two Miss Philadelphia winners. Even with Reading being a hotbed for local sub shops, many locals (including a handful of self-proclaimed hoagie aficionado friends of mine) swear by Primo's and believe that, despite being a chain with over 115 locations, their hoagies stand up with the best of them. After trying my first ever hoagie from Primo's, I can now say I'm a believer. Generous portions of zesty Italian meats are piled high on a seeded roll that elevates the whole kit and caboodle. The only component lacking was the lettuce in my opinion, which I found sparse and soggy. On the other hand, the tomatoes and onions were perfectly portioned and appeared to be drizzled with some sort of Italian seasoning/olive oil blend that really cranked things up to an 11. What maybe impressed me most was the execution by the staff on such a frantic day. The first 100 people to arrive received a free hoagie. Many more than that showed up. Incredibly, the pace was quick and efficient. Maybe we were lucky, but it only took about 5 minutes from the time we ordered to when our names were called. Everyone was pitching in, including the two Miss Philadelphia's who helped distribute hoagies to eager patrons. Just a really fantastic debut for what should be a sandwich staple in Wyomissing for years to come.
