Charming cafe! Today was my second time here, and I had the same great experience as before. We came for a late brunch...best coffee in Los Angeles! The food was fresh and delicious. The staff are friendly, responsive and seem to love being there (one waitress has been there 25 years...!). This restaurant is off the beaten path in a funky location, which means it's not packed and parking is easy. Shhhhhh...don't tell anyone about it! Good Croissants! My chocolate croissant has a wonderful honeycomb structure. Good chocolate. Josette gave me a card and asked me to come back. I visited on a august sunday morning. The place was empty. I thought that was a bad omen for the product. It was not. The pastries were delicious. Did you know there is a wonderful French restaurant just 15 minutes north of the intersection of Slauson and La Brea! There is street parking, fresh flowers and a unhurried Sunday Brunch. The food is delightful. I love the lentil soup and crazy fresh bread. The omelettes are not huge but they are flavorful and light and made with fresh herbs and a light touch. The sandwiches and salads are very filling and the desserts are both beautiful and super delicious. The French pastries in the display are all divine and you will not go wrong taking some of everything. The take out business is quite brisk, but there always seems to be seating available in the sit down restaurant. I once had an opportunity to have an extended conversation with Chef Josette who is fascinating and super accomplished. She's put her heart and soul into this lovely establishment and deserves our support with our stomachs and wallets. If you go, you will be delighted. read more

My husband came across the restaurant and really wanted us to go try it out, we arrived without reservation on Sunday at 2:45 the restaurant closes at 3pm I fully expected to be turned away, The girl that greeted us was pleasant and accommodating! My friends and I found this place entirely by accident. We had plans to meet at another restaurant but for reasons I won't go into we didn't eat there. We were walking in the neighborhood looking for a different place for brunch and happened by Josette. The French bread was everything a good French bread should be; light and tasty. I had their version of eggs Benedict, which had THE BEST HOLLANDAISE I think Ive ever had. Their late was delicious and the staff was friendly and inviting. Definitely coming back. read more

Seven of us stopped in for brunch a couple of weeks ago and were pleasantly surprised. Not only were the food choices, presentation and quality A+ but this place also has some of the most fabulous breads, cakes, pastries, and pate for take out in town. If you do a quick google search, you will see that foie gras was legal in 2020 again under certain circumstances. In short, the reviewer was incorrect. Don't come to this place. This is a new location and they are still using pics of the old restaurant and using the old reviews. This place is far from what it used to be. We were served food that was on display on TOP of the counter. They just put it on a plate and heated it. The only good thing here is the pastries and the fresh squeezed orange juice. Friendly staff, great food, and a really cute atmosphere. Chef Josette speaks french as well, so if you're looking to make conversation in french, it's incredibly fun to have a conversation with her! This bakery/restaurant deserves one star because their baked goods are delicious. However, on several occasions I've seen her treat her Latino employees terribly (I live in the area.) She yells and insults them when she thinks she isn't being watched. The second you drive away or walk away she continues to yell. Terrible. Coffee was like water, tables were dirty. The disturbingly bad mural of Josette didn't help. Didn't stay to eat because it was so bad. I was a patron of Maison Richard for years and where it wasn't perfect, it had personality to make up for its flaws. So sad that now this place has plopped down in its stead. I hate what this egotistical and tasteless woman has done to what was one of the best French pastry shops in town, Maison Richard. What used to be a classic, elegant, and delicious restaurant and patisserie has been bastardized by one of the worst people I've ever met. She has reduced this fine establishment into a cheesy tourist attraction celebrating nothing but herself and jeopardizing all integrity this restaurant once had. Branding all boxes and packaging with a poorly drawn cartoon of herself. It's a shame, truly. Luckily, you can tell she has kept some of the pastry chefs from Maison Richard because the Napoleon and others still look/taste the same. Further proving this woman has no business owning a pastry shop. She adds zero value other than giving it an ugly and poor makeover. Drive by many times, but today we decided to purposely go there for lunch. Very cute bakery/cafe. People were constantly coming in to buy bread. That should tell you something. The La Bretagne was best crepe I've ever had, hands down. I told the chef, David, who said he'd been cooking since he was a child in France. Everything was delicious. I gave it a couple of chances due to its proximity to my office and have been hugely disappointed. The food is bland or mediocre, the chef is self-obsessed (with not only photos and a cardboard cutout of herself, but she has a big screen tv in the dining area of herself on a cooking show playing on a loop) and the service is absolutely terrible.
