    Banana pudding
    Emily B.

So fun to FINALLY try Magnolia Bakery after wanting to try it for YEARS. I had to try the banana pudding. It was nothing like I ever had. More of a light whipped cream with cake-like pieces in it. And of course bananas. Yum. Can you open up a store in San Diego, please?

[[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a white colored building inside and out and so pleasant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] People are friendly and they'll help you with the menu. I got the carrot cake banana pudding, which for me was ok. I'm not big on creamy and sugary things and I'm more of a chocolatey person. They had lots of different options for cookies, brownies, banana pudding, and drinks.

I just love their banana pudding here, it's soo good, soft, fluffy and just really a treat! It's a must pick up and take home when I am in this area. Found some street parking and was able to just go in and pick up. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is seating inside and out to enjoy your pastries.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have cakes and cookies but my go to is the banana pudding. They are offering a chocolate version for you chocolate lovers. Service was fast

Mixed thoughts! Banana pudding lived up the hype and was decadent :) The red velvet cake was the worst red velvet cake I have ever had !!! the choice of buttercream instead of cream cheese was questionable too. The ted velvet banana pudding cookie was meh. I appreciated the shop had options and was accessible. I tried to strike up conversation with the hostess about the history of the shop and its roots. She knew nothing and told me to Google the history.. I found this sad and off putting. Especially for a shop that has fame and a following. Glad I tried, won't be making another visit. There's plenty of great copycat recipes online of the banana pudding that do it justice!!

You have to try the classic banana pudding, it's delicious!! They have lots of other treats too, like cookies, cakes and cupcakes. I also really enjoyed the vanilla cheesecake. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The location has a good amount of seating inside and some outdoor seating as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Street parking only, so that can be a little tricky. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was really nice, felt fresh and clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Cupcakes taste and look not good

Very disappointed! I've been a long time customer for vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting For the past year they changed A LOT! Bakery lost its aesthetics completely, most of the things are prepackaged in plastic boxes. Cupcakes do not look or taste how they used to. Look at my today's photo and photo from their instagram post in 2024 to see what I mean. Unfortunately today's was my last purchase at Magnolia bakery. I am very sad that I have to go somewhere else for my weekly cupcakes.

I've only been here once and it was to try their famous banana pudding. WOW! I think it's the best and most memorable banana pudding I've ever had. It was packed with full of flavor and the portion is a lot for the small sized cup. Service was OK. Nothing to say here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space was clean, open, and bright.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I would come again for the banana pudding.

BEST BANANA PUDDING IN THE MULTI VERSE I know that's a big statement best yes it is It's worth the price and the drive too. I'm a simple man and when my friend put me on to this we even got this shipped to my house Yes they ship desserts like this to your door! So stop reading this review because you are wasting time to try this!

In agreement with all others - their banana pudding is out of this world. I originally visited Magnolia in NYC and was blown away by it, so when I was in the area in LA I needed more. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bakery is super cute inside and they have lots of tasty treats[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], but I just got the small banana pudding for everyone in our family to try. I would definitely come here again.

Went here on a Wednesday afternoon, 3:30pm and wasn't busy at all. A couple of occupied tables, nice ambience, cute interior design/decorations, and a friendly male staff behind the counter. We ordered 2 large banana pudding, 1 small banana pudding, and a carrot cupcake to go. It's absolutely divine. I like anything banana based and was excited to try it! The term pudding did scare me a bit since I thought it might be sweet, but it is nowhere near sweet. It's light, airy, creamy, and tasty - all the perfect balance for a pudding. I grabbed one carrot cupcake since that's my favorite and it's also quite delicious. Will definitely be back!

I have a bit of a sweet tooth, and have been trying different bakeries around the city. I finally tried Magnolia Bakery after years of driving by. I originally thought it was like breads, but to my surprise it's actually sweets! It's located on the very active and hip 3rd Street near the Beverly Connection. The service was great; everyone was super nice and even let us try some samples to see if we liked the flavors. That was really appreciated. The sweet treats were great. We got 4 different cupcakes. They were all moist and flavorful. I really liked the cream cheese frosting on the red velvet one! We also got the banana pudding and the key lime cheese cake. Everything was really light but also rich in flavor.

You've come a long way baby! Here is my story Magnolia Bakery opened its doors nearly 20 years ago; hauling its name and product across the land from New York and planted their roots in the west side of Los Angeles. Parking may be an arduous task. You may have to wait in line once inside. The original hype was the cupcake! The red velvet cupcake, or any cupcake for that matter. I on the other hand suggest the banana pudding. DO NOT leave Magnolia Bakery without the banana pudding. NUFF said

    Do they offer catering?

Hi Drea, please see our menu on our website at https://www.magnoliabakery.com/. Please reach our customer service center with any further questions or to place a custom order at hello@magnoliabakery.com.…

    Dairy free options?

    I'm not sure. Sorry

Do they have anything gluten free?

    Gluten free banana pudding!

Did their menu shrink? Banana pudding options don't seem to be there like before

Didn't shrink. Their house flavors are classic and chocolate banana pudding. Then there's the SPECIALTY flavor, which does change every month.…

Do you have a delivery service?

National shipping is offered through their NYC branch. If you place an order for the los angeles, they offer Grubb, postmates, doordash, aswell as being able to order off of magnoliabakery.com…

Do they have any vegan / dairy-free options?

Unfortunately no, there are no vegan or dairy free options. They do carry a couple (as in two) items that are gluten free (not vegan) which are the mini flour less choc cake, and at the moment they have gluten free Nana pudding! Hope this helps. .

Has anyone tried the banana cupcake? Can anyone suggest which is the best cupcake? Thinking of ordering for my family

Haven't tried the banana cupcake yet, but I ate the red velvet cupcake, which has small chocolate chips in it. So delicious!

    Is the banana pudding halal?

Doesn't seem to be, as there's a Singaporean shop that does a halal version -- https://www.havehalalwilltravel.com/okieco-halal-magnolia-bakery-banana-pudding-singapore

Is the banana pudding available every day or just on weekends?

    Everyday! Until they sell out.

Is Fall the season when they start selling PB&J cakes again?

I suggest you call them directly. They are not making all cakes or cupcakes. Or you should try to pre-order.

How big are their mini pies?

I've had the blueberry vanilla, they are about the same as cupcakes. Only they are $7.95

Do they sell pie crusts and the top crust good for chicken pot pies?

Is this location still open? Not sure if the virus has it temporarily closed.

They are opened as of today 4/18(:

Does the banana pudding ever sell out?

yes! especially the most popular flavors.

How long will the banana pudding last in the fridge?

I would eat it in 1-2 days! It still tastes amazing and just as fluffy, but the bananas do turn brown!

    Any vegan options?

No, they do not have vegan options.

Is this the same Magnolia Bakery in NYC?

    Yes it is

Do they deliver cakes for special events?

    I believe they do

Do they work with Postmates or Any other deliver service?

Insider: Magnolia works with Door Dash and Postmates.

Does anyone know where good street parking is for magnolia? Or what streets are good for parking? Bringing my kids so I want to be prepared :) thank you! ?

We parked at the Beverley Connection parking garage and walked to Magnolia ? it's about a block but better than doing loops and waiting for a spot to open up on the street lol..

Parking is pretty difficult, and valet is $5. I can easily see the parking lot getting gridlocked on a busy day. I sampled a few of their gelato flavors, including the jasmine lychee and soy sauce. Both were okay, but I just wasn't in the mood for either of them today. I ended up getting the Pandan Toast to try. The pandan flavor was really good--not too grassy and didn't taste too artificial. The ice cream also had a buttery taste to it. It might have been from the toast, but I'm not too sure. The bread itself wasn't oily, which was nice, but it was kind of dry. The pandan sauce definitely helped make it easier to eat. I probably wouldn't eat the bread by itself though because it was super hard and didn't really have much flavor. I wasn't sure what to expect from the toast, but it wasn't quite what I expected. I originally wanted to try the mango sticky rice flavored shaved ice because it looked really good in the photos, but unfortunately they didn't have it today. I'd come back to try their shaved ice when mango is in season again!

So we decided to come here for coffee or tea and ended up having a really nice time. I used to come here quite often about four years ago. Back then, I really liked their Einspänner and ordered it several times. But the last time I came, I thought it was way too sweet, so I hadn't been back since. It had actually been a REALLY long time since I last visited. And when I used to come here four years ago, I always came in the morning or around lunchtime. Last night was my first time ever coming here at night. My friend told us that they are open until midnight, so that's why we decided to come here after dinner. I had heard that parking here can be a nightmare because there aren't enough parking spaces and people have a hard time finding a spot. But once again, my parking luck was AMAZING! A car pulled out right in front of me just as I arrived, so I was able to park very easily. Another friend arrived later than I did, and she said she couldn't find a parking spot at all. She drove around for quite a while looking for one before finally finding street parking. Last night, we also had some tiramisu, and since I'm pretty sensitive to caffeine, I decided to have a caffeine-free ade instead of coffee or tea. It was a little sweet for my taste, but it was ok. We sat outside on the outdoor patio and talked and talked and talked. We had such a fun time together! However, it was actually pretty cold outside last night. I remember thinking that it felt surprisingly chilly. But what was even crazier was how FREEZING cold it was inside the café! They had the air conditioning turned up so high that both my friends and I felt like we were going to freeze to death. The restroom is inside, and I also went inside to get some water, so I mentioned to one of the male employees that it was freezing inside. He told me that they didn't feel cold at all because they were working, and that THEY were actually feeling really hot. I went back to our table and told my friends what he had said, and they were like, "WHAT?! We're freezing to death over here!" The parking lot here is actually pretty large, so I was wondering why it was so difficult to find a parking spot. Apparently, at night, the left side is the café, while on the right side there is a bar where people can drink and also play games. There was a huge line of people waiting outside the bar last night, so I'm guessing that's probably why the parking lot gets so crowded and it's hard to find a spot. It was also pretty chilly outside last night because of the low temperature, so one thing I wished they had on the outdoor patio was heaters. That would have made sitting outside much more comfortable on a cold night.

The barista was super helpful with explaining what each drink was, didn't steer us in any direction though. The Houjicha shaved ice was the standout. Houjicha is a toasted green tea, and the flavor is a little difficult to describe--it has a warm, grainy, almost wheat-like taste that's very different from traditional green tea. At first, it can seem like an unusual flavor, but don't give up on it. Once you add the syrup they serve on the side and keep eating, it really grows on you. It somehow gets better with every bite, and before you know it, you can't stop eating it. The Iced Brown Sugar Miso Latte wasn't exactly what I was in the mood for, but it was still well made. It had a nice balance of umami and sweetness without either flavor overpowering the other. While it wasn't my personal favorite, I'd still recommend it if you're looking to try something a little different. Overall, Anko is a great spot if you're looking for unique Japanese-inspired desserts and drinks in a calm, beautifully designed space.

I'm glad we did, and the quality here is definitely great - I just don't think I'm going to become a fan of this type of dessert.
