I should have read the reviews first - then I might have ordered the banana pudding. Instead I got 3 vanilla cupcakes (1 for me, 2 for my teenagers). I bake a lot. So do my kids. And I know that vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting is pretty easy to make, but sometimes I'd rather just buy baked goods than make them for myself, especially when I'm driving past what I thought was a popular (and presumably good) bake shop. I expected a high-quality cupcake. The cupcakes looked cute, but they were as dry as the Sahara. They should have been labeled as white cupcakes as I didn't detect any vanilla in them. I suspect that the "buttercream" was made with milk and margarine and powdered sugar.....so much powdered sugar. It was sickeningly sweet, and it was dry too. And a true bettercream doesn't even use powdered sugar. So not only were the cupcakes terrible, they were not even what they purported to be. This is like calling a cut of meat a filet mignon and serving a hamburger. Von's, Ralphs and Albertson's make better cupcakes than this for a fraction of othe price. read more

Very disappointed! I've been a long time customer for vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting For the past year they changed A LOT! Been consistently having their banana bread pudding, and I honestly think it's the best. It's the perfect fluffy, light and airy, whippy cream cake that's banana flavored. It's not too sweet and the portion is enough to last a few days (if you're not super indulging!). I don't think I enjoy other banana bread puddings as much as Magnolia's. I've tried a few of their other concoctions but they end up being a little bit too sweet. Their Valentine's flavor which was the chocolate strawberry was such a good flavor but just too sweet. I originally thought it was like breads, but to my surprise it's actually sweets! It's located on the very active and hip 3rd Street near the Beverly Connection. A group of my friends and I just had dinner when one of them suggested we all go to Magnolia Bakery for dessert. Only he had been here before and totally raved about the place. So we went. We get there at 8:40p; 20 minutes before they close. There are eight of us. With the exception of the only male employee and one female, we got the look of "why are you here right before closing?" Several of us felt that attitude. As the male employee was bringing in the patio tables and chairs, I assured him we'll order and get out before they closed. He was nice and said no worries. My recent visit to Magnolia Bakery in Los Angeles was incredibly disappointing. Having visited the New York location before, I expected the same quality and service, but this experience was nothing close. I ordered a lemon bar and a slice of vanilla cake. The lemon bar completely fell apart the moment I picked it up, and the cake tasted stale and dry, as if it had been sitting in the refrigerator for days instead of being freshly made. The customer service made things even worse. While we were the only customers still looking over the menu, an Asian employee wearing a long black coat abruptly told the staff to help us in a tone that felt impatient and unwelcoming. There was no line behind us, so there was no reason to make us feel rushed. It also made us uncomfortable to see an employee speaking to the staff that way in front of customers, as it came across as disrespectful and unprofessional. Thankfully, the cashier who helped us was friendly and professional, and I hope she's treated with the same kindness she shows customers. Everyone and their mother hypes up Magnolia Bakery. My coworker texted me before my trip to LA telling me to go. I asked my dear friend Terry K. to take me and it was so yummy! The bakery is like a classic American bakery vibe, reminded me of Flo's V8 cafe in Disneyland lol. It's bright inside with all the white and light colored decor. There are a few tables inside to sit at and some outside as well. Ordering is easy--stand in line, look at the display case, order, and pay. Service was fine, minimal interactions, and fast. Instead of travelling to NYC for my Magnolia Bakery fix, I can just coast down to LA. When I worked at Cedars, it was pretty easy to walk to this location and get their famous banana pudding. I like how there's different sizes, especially because my waistline does not need that much sugar. They have monthly special flavors. For July, it's a blueberry lemon banana pudding, which I personally associate more with Spring, not Summer. I got a small ($5.75) as well as a cold brew ($4.75) to wash it down with. The coffee is surprisingly not bad here. It's not watered down and is fairly decent! Inside seating is a little limited. There's only four small tables, but most people just take their sweets and go.
