overall pretty decent, the food is like others said a bit bland but overall not bad. teriyaki chicken bowl tasted a bit off to me, feels like they didn't use enough teriyaki or it was a watery sauce but it didn't have much flavor and the rice was disappointing. kind of those big, overly fluffy yet kinda dry grains, not really sushi grade or anything close which i usually prefer in dishes like this. same was true for the fried rice ball, which wasn't crispy or sticky. the fries were also pretty bland, but crispiness and cut were so good! just needs a bit more salt, bit more flavor. mint yuzu lemonade was DELICIOUS it's just sweet enough and just concentrated enough. very fresh and yummy 10/10 yuzu cheesecake was also pretty good, though the texture's more whipped than usual cheesecake and a bit grainy, which i assume comes from the yuzu. which it had more crust but still great! so yes overall not bad but i probably wouldn't get anything rice-reliant and adding salt helps a lot read more

Wow! Insane, I was mind blown by their special of the day - Shrimp Katsu Burger w/ TarTar Sauce. It might have been a seasonal special - I can't remember but it wasn't on their regular menu. If you see the photo I posted, you can see how thick the piece of shrimp burger was... and the katsu was cooked perfectly in that the shrimp retained its texture and juiciness. I can easily eat 3 pieces of the shrimps katsu (without the burger bun). They should definitely consider adding the shrimps katsu burger as a main menu item! The shredded cabbage was a nice refreshing pairing. Their drink option looks amazing as well. I tried takeout from here recently and felt like it was a very solid Japanese sandwich and bowl spot. The katsu shrimp burger was well-prepared, crispy on a soft bun with some nice crunchy veggies--I do feel like they could have turned the flavor up a little bit with another spicy or tangy or even sweet sauce in addition to the classic tartar. It was kind of like your typical po'boy, which I enjoyed, but nothing really set it apart or connected it to the particular cuisine. I also had the salmon dashi chazuke because the salmon ikura bowl sold out. Very simple, salmon rice and some shredded nori and scallions with dashi broth, but it was yummy and nourishing. The curry on the chicken katsu was good. The breading on all were light. The meats were a little dry, so I would've liked if there was more sauce for all of the sandwiches. We got the Salmon & Ikura bowl, and the Salmon Dashi chazuki. I had wanted to try Chef Katsu after seeing the Kickstarter through the Just One Cookbook instagram account. I fell in love katsu burgers after a trip to Seattle in 2017 that blew my mind. I was waiting for the next trip I could take out to NYC where I could stop by Chef Katsu after it had opened. Ended up driving up to NYC for Labor Day Weekend with some friends from DC. I was able to find some street parking right on the next street near Chef Katsu. Walked in with a group of 5 and we were meeting up with 2 people there. It is a pretty small spot with a couple outdoor chairs/tables (for around 6-8 people) and then some small tables inside to hold another 10ish. It was a little crowded when we got there, so we had to make do with some of the seating and split up. It was a little squished but doable. We all ordered at the front - they have a bunch of different types of katsu burgers, bowls, and sides. Food/Drink: - Pork Katsu Burger with Miso Sauce - Shio-koji Marinated Pork Cutlet with Shredded Cabbage, Shiso, Mayo and Original Curry Sauce. I thought the burger was decent, but it didn't knock my socks off (I will say this was a couple weeks after I ate at my favorite katsu burger spot in Seattle). The katsu was a little small looking in comparison to the big bun and I wasn't a huge fan of the shiso. Flavor was good with the miso and the cheese was a good addition. - Fries - they were pretty nice and crispy. goes well if you're eating a burger. - Yuzu Lemonade - this was good! I would drink it again. Overall, good spot to try out in the Brooklyn area. Lots of different burgers and bowls to try out and different meat/veggie varieties. The chicken katsu sandwich was so worth it for $11! The chicken is moist despite being such a huge piece and definitely filling! I couldn't taste the curry though until half way into the bite so I wish they gave us a curry sauce on the side or something to dip. What really stood out for me though was the strawberry matcha latte - it was so good! Not so sweet and the strawberry amount in it was just right. I liked it so much I went back to try the hojicha strawberry latte, which was good, but still prefer the matcha one! read more
