If you want Mongolian Beef, go somewhere else for it. I got a to go order for it last night. When I got home and opened the container what was inside was NOT Mongolian beef. There were large slices of beef in a brown sauce, covered with carrots and more celery than beef. The sauce was bland, and not a red pepper or green onion in sight. I don't know where their cook got this recipe but it was the farthest thing from Mongolian beef ever. I will never go back. read more

Love eating here. I fell in love the first time I came when you could see the ladies making pot stickers PER ORDER, folding them with chop sticks. Everything is always fresh, smells and taste good! Went to Chef Kwan's for the first time and ordered vegetable chow mein with cream cheese wontons. Lots of parking near Trader Joe's in the back. Appropriately socially distanced in the lobby. A few little tables to sit. Specifically asked if the wontons were vegetarian and was told that they have egg, but other than that would be okay. Well, actually, they have crab-- which I don't consider vegetarian. Really big bummer. The noodles were all right, but tasted very black peppery. April/ 8 /23 . Today I went this place which I visit very often. I ordered curry chicken over steamed rice and when I was half way eating it , I found a long hair on my food. I went back to the restaurant because the lady told me to bring it back so I did. She told me that she can't give me credit because she's not allowed, but she said I can give you something else, since the owner wasn't there so I took a picture to show the owner and at that moment she said now I can't give you anything because you took a photo. I was very disappointed but that's how they are , they have very bad customer service . I won't go back there for a while . It's just what you expect for a fast Chinese place- the food isn't out-of-this-world great, but it's good and always consistent. So went to church with some friends and after the service they offered to take my other friend and I to lunch. Ok I guess they come here a lot and were saying how good the food is. I and my other friend were highly disappointed by how underwhelming the food was. It's a small place where you walk up to the counter to order. They had menus so we browsed them before deciding what we wanted. I opted for crab rangoon (2 pcs) and a small won ton soup. My friend ordered orange chicken. Our other friends ordered pot stickers, chinese chicken salad and a combo order with cashew chicken. The crab rangoon was ok, I've had better. The soup hmmm it had thick slices of mushrooms, spinach, 2 pcs of pork and 2 won tons in a very bland broth. I tried a piece of my friends orange chicken it was a greasy bland mess. Yuck! I even dipped it sweet and sour sauce. Nope! My other friends seemed to enjoy their food. I was not impressed whatsoever. I'm not generally picky but it was so gross. The water is infused with lemon so it tastes like lemon toilet water. My friend told me after that he had gone up to buy a flavored water and while waiting to get service the lady behind the counter was chatting it up with her coworker and didn't acknowledge him until he put the drink back in the fridge and came back to sit with us. Guess they didn't want business that bad. The prices are a little high for such bland, greasy foods. Sad to say I have no desire to return. read more

Chef Kwans is FLAMES! I go for takeout pretty much every time I'm back in town. I was skeptical at first when they took over su Hong as I loved that spot, but they still have all my old faves on the menu and there's no noticeable taste difference. I live in San Francisco now and there's great dim sum all around (RIP Hong Kong Lounge II), but I still haven't found a Chinese takeout spot in the city that matches Chef Kwan's in portion size or great taste. To the haters leaving negative reviews: I suggest giving it CK one more shot and order what I order: generals chicken, Chinese chicken salad, walnut shrimp, pork fried rice, spring rolls. This place is horrible. I went there with a friend and had stir fried rice with beef. Believe me when I say, there was ABSOLUTELY NO FLAVOR. I felt like I had to pour packets upon packets of soy sauce just to make it taste good. My buddy ordered chicken and it was rubbery and had ABSOLUTELY no flavor. I would put money that chicken wasn't even fresh. Today, that same buddy of mine suggested Chef Kwan's for lunch to give them a second chance and I literally said, "FUCK NO." Don't go. We have been ordering takeout from Chef Kwan (formerly Sue Hong) for some 30 years. Most of the dishes have maintained their quality, except for the hot and sour soup. It is now flavorless: no heat, no sour at all. Another change is that it now consists almost entirely of tofu. A big disappointment in what used to be one of our favorites. read more

We get take out from here all the time. The portions are pretty large, so it's a good value for the price. The food is pretty Americanized, but if you're fine with that it's pretty good. We are here in the center of Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area and it's a sad state of affairs that this is the standard of Chinese food to go that we have to eat. Tonight I had the cold, soggy doughy shrimp, tasteless chow mein and bland Chicken Salad ! I loaded it all up with soy sauce and chinese mustard and now (60 mins later) have severe cramping. I have noticed that certain days of the week the food is super tasty and great like it always was under the Su Hong's name and other days it's soggy and tasteless. Chef Kwan's is exactly what it sounds like: Americanized Chinese takeout. The dishes tend to be extremely greasy and the meat was rubbery. The food didn't taste horrible, but what really contributed to my low review was the price. Two dishes and one quart of rice came out to around $28. Considering that this is a take-out only establishment with no table service (they have a few tiny tables and can give you paper plates if you choose to eat there), the prices are just as high as a sit-down restaurant.
