There's honestly a loss of words to describe this meal. I'll start with the carrot cream soup... absolutely incredible. The flavors were rich, balanced, and unforgettable. When Mickey came by to clear our plates, I jokingly told him it was awful -- which is why I used the bread to scrape up every last bite. He didn't appreciate my humor quite as much as I did, but that was only the beginning. Next came the grouper stuffed with blue crab... wow. Perfectly golden crust on the outside with flaky, creamy, melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness inside. The explosion of flavors is hard to even put into words. A couple of weeks ago while we were in Mexico we had dinner at Chef Mickey's again. When you walk in it's like walking into an upscale restaurant. The lights are dimmed and staff & the tables are dressed like a 5 star restaurant in the states. Hubby got a margarita and I got Tito's & cranberry juice. Both were good. Hubby got the chicken parmigiana. It was good. It came with a soup or salad & bread. Had had been wanting shrimp tacos. They were not on the menu, but they made them for me. I added cheese, sour cream & pico. They came with rice & beans. They were excellent! The best meal I ever had. I got the soup. It was a potato & cheese soup. Very good. The Chef Mickey cane out & check on every table & chatted with us all. We will definitely be back next year when we are on vacation! We came here for dinner last night and I really loved the decor--classy with a touch of romance. Service was excellent, and the chef even came out to talk through the menu, which was a nice personal touch. I had the pecan flounder but found it a bit plain. I also tried the Flounder Veracruz special, which was too sour for my taste. However, the sides that come with the entrées--your choice of soup or salad, potato or rice, and a vegetable--were all great. I have tried this restaurant twice in the last couple of months. The appetizers and sides are excellent, from the date and Gorgonzola stuffed shrimp app to the mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables to the special Huitlacoche soup on Saturdays. The service is great and the chef himself comes to answer any questions or check on how the meal is going, which is always appreciated. The 4 stars is simply because I have not had a main entree yet that I really enjoy. The enchiladas I had were fine, not great, and this most recent visit I found the grouper to have an unpleasant texture and was pretty bland. I went here with my husband a few weeks ago and was impressed with the setup. It has a nice courtyard with a patio strung up with lights. Inside is a small intimate and nice setting. There's also a dirt area for parking off to the side of the plaza. The meal came with garlic bread and oil. It looked really pretty but was salty and had too much butter for me but my husband enjoyed it. I wasn't very hungry so I only ordered the stuffed mushrooms and the soup. I can't remember what kind of soup it was but it was corn something. It was pretty good, my husband loved his bowl as well. The stuffed mushrooms were plentiful and packed with crab meat! If you like mushrooms and you like crab, you can't go wrong with this dish! My husband ordered a lobster linguini and really liked it. I did feel it was a bit bland. My husband and I went here tonight. We were celebrating and decided to share the surf and turf and stuffed flounder. Had a bottle of cab. The soup and salad were wonderful. Best salad I've had in RP. Onto the surf and turf, I asked for Marsala sauce on the side in case I didn't like it. OMG it was the best sauce ever! The steak was perfection. Shrimp and stuffed flounder were also incredible. Green beans were so perfect. I love vegetables Al dente and this was fantastic taste and texture. We were so full we took box home to have for lunch. Not sad about how I will reconstruct this into lunch tomorrow. The service was fabulous. Our waitress was great at answering every question and got everything right! It was easy to tell that the staff are happy and cooperative. (I was a server and manager so it is easy to tell) Overall, being part time in Las Conchas, this place is close by and is incredible. It isn't cheap but it is worth it. Quality ingredients!!! We will return for sure. Lovely evening. 100 bucks plus tip. (we tip 20% because if it is American style we tip as such). Worth it and if we wanted to spend less it would be easy to do so and still have an amazing meal. I can't imagine a bad bite based on our experience. Four of us had an early dinner at 3:30pm at Chef Mickey's on October 19th. The interior is pleasant and comfortable and the staff were very accommodating and friendly. We started with an order of the Date, Gorgonzola and Shrimp poppers, which were delicious. Two had the Coconut Shrimp dish, which they said was the best and BIGGEST shrimp they had ever had. My friend and I had the Filet Mignon, which was an absolute wonderful piece of beef and cooked to perfection......black and blue in my case. We had the Banana's Foster for dessert and it was wonderful also. I brought my own bottle of Petite Sirah and they do offer gluten free meals. One of the finest meals that we have had in Penasco, and we've been coming for 20 years. One of the best Filet Mignons (flavorful MX beef) that I have had anywhere. An absolutely wonderful dinner; a solid 4+ star restaurant; highly recommended and we will return. read more

Hubby and I have eaten Chef Mickeys food twice. The first time we ate on their patio. We started with the date appetizer, I think hubby had a fish dish and I had a steak dish. The food was outstanding but service was extremely slow. We had our toddler with us and I believe the appetizer came out around 2 hours after we arrived and the entrees arrived about a half hour later. By this time our toddler was done so we requested the check and had our dinner boxed up. The second time we were wiser and ordered our food to go. This time we skipped the appetizer, we both had different steak dinners. On the way back to out rental house we swung by Candy Cake for dessert. The food was outstanding again and this time we skipped the epic toddler meltdown. We highly recommend the food and if you're traveling without kids and don't mind a leisurely dinner the ambiance is nice but if you're like us we recommend sticking with take out. read more

It's crazy because as much as we enjoyed the food, at the end of the meal, we were still waiting for that special something that would make us want to come back and say, yes! This is the place we've been waiting for. Also, sat night (December in Covid) only two tables occupied. So- may be different otherwise. I don't know. Our dinner was $130 for shrimp sampler appetizer, two surf & turfs, kids Mac and cheese, two top shelf margaritas, and banana flambé desert. The owner, not sure who he is, never came to our table to ask us how things were and if he did he never identified himself. Tried this restaurant for the first time on 3/4/24 for dinner and I am a loss for words, AMAZING is the only way I know how to explain our whole experience. When we walked into the restaurant we were personally welcomed into the restaurant by the chef himself which I have never had happen. We were seated at a elegant table with candlelight and recommended the (Queso Fundido, "melted cheese, mushrooms and green chili") it was mouth watering it's served with tortillas and I can't wait to go back to eat more, as if it couldn't get any better we were also served complimentary garlic bread that was perfect also. Our next course was a Cesar salad that was very good.. I have a picky son who tried the appetizers and we were shocked he ate them, he was boring and ordered a burger, my mom ordered the fajitas and the portions were HUGE, it came with Spanish rice, refried pinto beans and tortillas.. the fajitas were delicious.. on to my food I ordered the lobster tail with steak, asparagus and a baked potato, the lobster was delicious but the real star of the show was the steak I swear it melted in my mouth, the flavor was just mind blowing and it was by far the best steak I have ever had.. It's American food and definitely tastes great. Okay not sure where some of these reviews come from or where these people normally eat, but don't waste your money on the steak. The queso fundido was good but not worth by $30! I had the Ribeye which in NO way would compare to a $35 dollar steak where I am from. Granted I am in Mexico and I should have known better, but with all these over hyped reviews i decided to give it a chance. My wife had the shrimp which was great! Chef Mickey's is my new favorite dinner spot in Puerto Penasco. It is one of the closest restaurants to the Las Conchas area. I went there twice in the week I was in Puerto Penasco. The first time I had the shrimp wrapped in bacon. The shrimp was huge and the bacon was crispy, I loved it. The second time I had the filet with rosemary and garlic, it was tender and the seasoning was perfect. Entrees were served with a salad and choice of potato. The meals averaged $22. Well worth it.
