Just wasn't so sure it was actually snapper as it had the texture of catfish. Not as big a fan of the Mexican shrimp cocktail as it was mostly sauce, but the shrimp were good. Seafood fondue could have used a bit more cheese but the garlic bread went great with it. Overall will be back to try more fish as they have a bunch of variety.

My husband ordered the red fish pontchartrain and I had the snapper Opelousas which has a couple small shrimp and crawfish in garlic sauce. They were both really good. I think we preferred the snapper just based on the thin fillets but the red fish was exactly how it should be. Each was like $15 and came w rice and a veggie (his was corn). We paid the extra 1.50 for garlic bread instead of regular bread and I wouldn't do that again. Only one side had butter and garlic and it wasn't very impressive. The meals and sides were very plentiful and the sauces were great. My husband also had a cup of lobster bisque and really enjoyed it. The prices are amazing! The service overall was a bit slow, if you are in a hurry just let them k ow and I bet they'd help get you in and out. Totally worth checking out!

The fried platter was crispy, well-seasoned, and not greasy at all. The shrimp and fish were cooked perfectly, and the portions were definitely generous. The oysters were a standout, fresh, buttery, and topped with so much flavor. And that loaded baked potato... stuffed with all the good stuff and honestly a meal on its own. Service was friendly, and the atmosphere was lively (it does get busy, but that just shows how popular it is). If you're craving seafood that's rich, flavorful, and actually hits, this is the spot. I left full and happy, and already thinking about my next visit when I visit Houston again!

They suggested for a drink the Peach Sidecar. That drink was awesome, made to perfection. I got the shrimp gumbo and the 1/2 Shrimp Poorboy. It definitely took longer than normal for me to get my food. But when I got it, it was hot fresh and tasty. The ambience of Pappadeaux's was usual and acceptable. What made the visit most acceptable was the personalities and healthfulness of the bartenders. I recommend this business. GN3

Even with the crowd, the line kept moving, and there was no shortage of delicious-looking options on the steam table. From fried chicken and turkey wings to baked fish, spaghetti, cabbage, green beans, mac and cheese, dressing, black-eyed peas, collard greens, candied yams, mashed potatoes, and more, it was hard to decide what to order because everything looked homemade. I ordered the turkey wing with collard greens, black-eyed peas, mashed potatoes with gravy, rice, a corn muffin, and sweet potatoes. I also grabbed a Suicide Punch, which is a mix of all their Kool-Aid flavors. First, let's talk about those sweet potatoes... BABY!! They absolutely stole the show. They were piping hot, buttery, perfectly sweet, and hands down the best thing on my plate. I could've easily eaten another serving. The collard greens were seasoned beautifully with a rich, smoky flavor and plenty of pot liquor. They were tender without being mushy and tasted like they had been cooking all day. The black-eyed peas were creamy, well-seasoned, and comforting, while the mashed potatoes were smooth and paired perfectly with the savory gravy. The rice soaked up every bit of that gravy, and the corn muffin was soft with just the right touch of sweetness. The turkey wing itself was tender, juicy, and covered in flavorful gravy. My only surprise was that I was expecting just the wing portion, but instead I received the whole wing with the drum attached. It wasn't a big deal because it was still delicious--I just personally prefer getting only the wing. The Suicide Punch was another winner. If you grew up drinking Kool-Aid, you'll appreciate it. It's sweet, refreshing, and a fun mix of all the flavors. My family ordered several other dishes, so we got to try quite a variety. We had baked chicken, macaroni and cheese, candied yams, and black-eyed peas, and everything was generously portioned. The baked chicken was moist and well-seasoned, and the mac and cheese had that creamy, homemade taste you hope for from a soul food restaurant. My only real complaint was that some of the food was served lukewarm instead of hot, which took away from the experience a little. Soul food just hits differently when it's fresh and piping hot. Ironically, the sweet potatoes were the one item that came out nice and hot, and they were absolutely perfect. Overall, Mikki's serves authentic soul food with generous portions and flavors that remind you of Sunday dinner at a family member's house. The food is comforting, the selection is impressive, and it's easy to see why the place stays busy. If everything had been served hot, this would've easily been a five-star experience. Pro tip: Don't leave without getting the sweet potatoes and a Suicide Punch. Trust me--you'll thank me later. sweet potatoes and a Suicide Punch free refills. Trust me--you'll thank me later.

Crawfish & Beignets was one such place, with a prominent presence in Chinatown with the support of the local community. They were among the highest on my list for a long while, but the subsequent deflating of the experience meant it was memorable for the wrong reasons. There were various things to made it more of a letdown, which included very slow service with a side of saltiness (#1) some 'tude, and a side of overpriced dishes. The latter was fueled by foodflation, but when coupled with the food blandness (#1), it becomes the worst kind of double whammy. My bowl 3 Ibs of mixed crawfish with crab legs and shrimp were a solid portion but the Cajun (mix) seasoning wasn't there. Even the extras of the potatoes and corn were bland, which prompted me to ask for additional seasoning and some spice. Ultimately, it wasn't worth the 45 minute wait. I also shared a number of appetizers with my group, which included beignets (fluffy, airy), fried rice (salty), boudin egg rolls (surprisingly tasty), calamari (so-so), and oyster nachos (best appetizer). It was all much more appealing than the crawfish that I subsequently had. One thing I'll always remember is the words etched along their wall in an attempt to be cute: "Peel me. Suck me. Pinch me. Repeat." I'm all for all of those things, but not here. This isn't because I wouldn't want to give them another chance, but because they're now closed. All the peeling, sucky, and pinching will have to be somewhere else. __________ (#1) Surprisingly, not from the food.
