I was a long time customer of Amalfi, and when I learned that Tony was buying the restaurant, I was both excited but a bit anxious about what it would be like. We went last night, and I can tell you, the new venue did not disappoint! I like what they did with the refresh of the physical venue, and the food was fantastic! We started out with cocktails, and they were delicious. I had a Negroni, and it was spot on. Then for an appetizer, we ordered a white pizza, which was one of my main stays at Amalfi. It was fantastic, definitely up to par with the white pizza we would order at Amalfi. I'm a seafood lover, so it was great to see all the new options on the menu. Two of us ordered the seafood stew, which was fantastic, one of us ordered pasta with shrimp, which was delicious, and one of us ordered the eggplant Parmesan, which I tasted and I must say it was at least as good, if not better, than the eggplant Parmesan I would get at Amalfi. In addition to the great food, the service was fantastic! Gladys was our server, and she was incredibly intentive plus we loved her bubbly personality. We finished off the evening with crème brûlée and a table visit from Chef Tony . We had a top-notch experience at Chef Tony's and will definitely be coming back!

The fried calamari. My friend liked it.

Truthfully, this was more like three and a half stars. My friend and I were looking for a good happy hour place. She suggested Chef Tony's because she really likes fried calamari and it was on the happy hour menu. I will say the place itself was very nice. Bright reds and blues make it colorful with lots of fish decorations on the wall. The service was awesome. Our waiter was there when we needed him, but gave us lots of time to talk. The happy hour menu offers lots of choices. My favorite dish was the grilled shrimp and cannoli beans with vegetables. That dish was perfectly prepared and delicious. We also ordered half price glasses of wine and they were a very generous poor. Our next dish was the fried calamari. It was okay. The breading didn't stick to the fish and I like my calamari cut into smaller pieces. My friend enjoyed her dish. The fried zucchini had a strange aftertaste. It was fried really well, but I couldn't get past the aftertaste. Maybe, it was some herb they added? The eggplant parmigiana was not prepared well. It was heavy and just didn't taste good. I would not recommend that dish. My friend also enjoyed her cup of crab soup, but said it was spicy. So, great service, but more misses than hits, at this happy hour. I would definitely come back for the shrimp, great service, and the wine. I had a nice time catching up with my friend.

A Hidden Gem in the Snow If you're looking for an "off-the-beaten-path" culinary treasure in Rockville, Chef Tony's Fresh Seafood is it. We visited this past Valentine's Day to celebrate our friend Stacy's birthday (yes, she's a Valentine's baby!), and despite the snowy weather making the already limited parking a bit of a challenge, the experience was well worth the trek. The atmosphere and Service: Because it was February 14th, the restaurant was buzzing. Reservations are an absolute must here, especially on holidays. The staff was incredibly friendly and managed the high-energy crowd with grace, even with their limited holiday hours (they wrapped up service at 9:30 PM). While the menu is solid across the board, there were a few standouts that really made the night: Stuffed Mushrooms: We started with these, and they were the perfect bite--savory, rich, and a great way to kick off the meal. Seafood Pasta: A total showstopper. It was loaded with fresh seafood and perfectly cooked pasta; you can tell they don't skimp on the quality of the catch. Salmon: Perfectly flaky and seasoned. If you're a fan of salmon, this is a very safe and delicious bet. Holiday Specials: They offered great drink pricing specifically for Valentine's Day, which added a nice festive touch to our double-celebration. The Bread Policy: Just a heads-up--Chef Tony's does not serve bread on the table during major holidays like Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, and Christmas. It's a small quirk to keep in mind, but honestly, it just leaves more room for that pasta! Final Verdict Despite the hustle and bustle of a holiday crowd and the snug parking lot, the quality of the food and the warmth of the service shine through. I will definitely be back. Highly recommended!

    ITALIAN PAELLA
    Aisha A.

My brother took my mother and me out for dinner here, and we had a great time. The food was DELICIOUS. Upon arrival, we were seated, and the dining area is super beautiful, cozy, and romantic. I love the artwork. We started with apps and got calamari and satay of marinated filet mignon. 10/10!!! It was so so good that we were lowkey fighting for the last piece of beef and plantains. For my main, I got the braised beef short rib. SO GOOD ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! The food was so so flavorful, the mashed potatoes were heavenly and addictive. I loved the portion sizes and felt I was definitely getting my money's worth. My brother got the Italian paella and it looked so good I almost snatched his plate. For dessert, we shared the caramel cheesecake and tiramisu. Once again super delicious - I can't even pick a favorite. Our server, Franklin, was amazing and so so kind. He was super busy but still checked on our table and remained attentive. This place exceeded my expectations, and I would definitely recommend it to others. Now parking....the parking lot is tight - our reservations were on a Saturday at 4pm so it was quiet and easy to get a parking spot. I recommend just parking on the street if you can.

Cheesecake with Strawberry Malbec Sauce - 3.5/5* (sauce was overpowering, needed more strawberry flavor and sweetness/citrus)
    Mimi W.

Located in a lowkey area on the backside of central Rockville Pike. Few parking in the front including the streets, but more around the side and back along other shops. Looks like they repainted/renovated the outside, but stepping in, I was transported to an outdated Italian restaurant complete with creaking chairs. Intimate seating with low-lighting. Ambiance 2/5* I wasn't expecting much, but the food was great! Didn't care for the free bread, but the fried oysters and filet mignon satay were delicious. I got the lobster pasta with a few good sized chunks of lobster and the pasta was cooked well, but sauce got a little salty at the bottom. The grilled halibut with crab and cauliflower hash was also cooked well and we ate up every bite. Had mixed feelings about the vanilla cheesecake with strawberry Malbec sauce... the filling was creamy and delicious, but the sauce was over the top - only a thin drizzle but very overpowering and not enough strawberry taste. Italian ice/ice cream/sorbet was ok. Overall, food was a solid 4/5*. Service was also great. Waitress gave recommendations, but we did have to flag her down a couple of times. After getting our appetizers, she didn't take our entree order and we finished before we flagged her down. But overall 4/5* for service. Would definitely recommend and I'd go back to try some of the other menu offerings!

    WHITE PIZZA HEMI
    Stacy R.

I've had about 5 meals delivered from Tony's. Every single meal is fantastic. This man and his team are talented. Impeccable taste.

Have been to Chef Tony's place in Bethesda in the past and thought the food was fine. However on this occasion at this location, all the fried food were overcooked, from fried Zucchini to the fries, , see picture. The server was nice but was completely cluess. Late on everything that we ordered and not once did he check on the food, refill the drinks, or remove dirty plates on the table. Main entree of Chicken Piccata was so sour that it's barely edible. Just an overall horrible experience. From the bad food to the bad service. Will not return

    Chicken Pesto Hemi

OK, after seeing, reading and hearing SO many comments about Chef Tony's at Amalfi and this HEMI pizza which we had NO clue what it was, never heard of such a thing, so we decided to go tonight and check out the restaurant in Rockville. THAT pizza was THE BEST we have had anywhere, so far. No lie!!! AND to make sure we stayed to sample it at it's freshest, we ate inside the restaurant. I do like the non-traditional pizzas and toppings, and always in search of more gourmet or unique pies. I had the BBQ Chicken Hemi. Right amount of everything from the cheese to chicken, caramelized onions mixed well with the sweet BBQ drizzled on top, Bellisimo! Oh and the crust, just right, wasn't overly chewy, right amount of crisp yet surprisingly light for a deep dish style. My hubby ordered the Chicken Pesto Hemi which he thoroughly enjoyed. Again, from the awesome blend of cheese (definitely love the cheese!!!) to chicken, cherry tomatoes to Pesto drizzled, and well proportioned, tasty. We felt it was at a great price point for the quality and wonderful flavors. Did I mention the cheese? Yum! Oh and the bread served for dinner with oil was very good as well. I'd say the only disappointment was missing out on receiving our Caesar salad we ordered which was on my Must Try list. Our waiter was good and when we questioned the food runner where our salad was once the pizza was delivered, our waiter came by to apologize. We told him to cancel it, we'd come back to try another time. There were many delicious dinners, appetizers and desserts on the menu that was so tempting to order, but we were there specifically to try the pizza and SO glad we stuck to our plan. Atmosphere at the Rockville location was nice, couple small dining rooms, lending a cozier feel. It was a quiet evening for a Sunday which was fine by us, didn't feel rushed and could take time savoring the delicious pizza. Seemed like they were family friendly as there were 2 families with younger children dining. I'm hoping they stay consistent, as they are now our #1 go to for this type of pizza. We definitely will be back and hoping for repeat on deliciousness and to be blown away again.

    Scallops
    Aubrie H.

Visited with a large group and we sat in the private dining room in the back which was a little cozy but nice. Everyone was able to find something to enjoy on the menu. I choose the Scallops which were cooked perfectly! Everyone at our table enjoyed their meals and the appetizers and desserts we ordered to share.

This is our first time here at Amalfi. We have been to the other locations many times. We did an early dinner on a Thursday night, so it was pretty quiet. At the time of this review, the appetizers were half off from 4-5:30. The service was terrific. We started with the Pan Roasted Brussel sprouts. Very unexpected flavor but in a good way. We both ordered the Thursday Lobster Special 1.5 lbs with 2 sides - veggies and roasted potatoes. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.

The biggest hit for me was the suppli appetizer. These are absolutely delicious and vegetarian friendly! Similar to arancini but somehow even more delicious. These are a must-order. I had the pasta alla vongole and a bite of my husband's chicken parmigiana. Our friend had mushroom ravioli that she loved, but I didn't try as I don't care for mushrooms. I've been on a clams and garlic kick lately for some reason and the vongole comes with these and bonus bacon. I would have preferred the bacon a tad crispier, but that is personal preference. I'd give this dish 4* - I would get it again but after trying some others. From the one bite the chicken parmigiana was a 5*. Their marinara is very good and the linguine in both our dishes tastes freshly made. We all split the chocolate temptation dessert and I ate more of it than I expected to, it is chocolate mousse adjacent cake with ganache frosting, very light, perfectly sweet. Often I find chocolate desserts too much after a big meal but this one wasn't heavy at all. 5* My friend ordered sangria which she thought was more like a wine cooler; too sweet for her French oenophile sensibilities and a bit lighter than a sangria usually is, but I am a pleb who loves sweet drinks and I would order it. If you are a sangria purist you might not care for it. Hubs enjoyed his old fashioned but said it needed a dash more bitters to be perfect. I was driving so enjoyed a non-dirty Shirley. Prices to me are reasonable for quality and portion size; our tab ended up high because of the appetizer, drinks and dessert but if you just had pizza or pasta with soda it would be pretty affordable. I will be back to get more suppli and try other dishes!
