I was slightly early getting there for my order but I did call and let them know where I was parked. I look at the dish and it's now all cheese and about 5 oz of chicken. The kitchen is hammering the chicken to make it thin and it's not good, every bite was cheese only on my 1/2. I was so happy to try this location as I had been to other Mamma's and was hoping for consistency. Well I was impressed! The manager Cody, made sure we were taken care of and the garlic bread with Jimmy Sauce was hot and delicious. Chicken Francese is not my favorite and the pasta bolognese is some of the best I have ever eaten. I cannot wait to try the outside seating area that has a large screen tv and lovely tables and chairs. There is a heater out there too, which will be so fun for the Fall. Last Sunday (4/23), my daughters and I were craving some pasta. I went to the Mamma Lucia's (for the first time a few weeks ago) located in Federal Plaza and really enjoyed the penne vodka. It turns out there's a location much closer to my house on Shady Grove Rd, in the Fallsgrove Village Center. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much bigger and more spacious this location is! They also have prepared pizza and calzones on display that people can come in an order for takeout. Our server was quite lovely and patient as my kids tried to figure out what they wanted. She wasn't overbearing and gave us ample time and space to really enjoy the meal. I knew I wanted the penne vodka because it was SO good the first time around. Since we came at dinner time, it was served with a side salad (option for house or Caesar). I had leftovers for a large/heavy lunch the following day. My eldest opted for fettuccine Alfredo from the kids menu. This was a very generous portion for a kids item - certainly more than enough for my 11 y/o that she had leftovers the following day for dinner. I tried her dish and it was really flavorful. My youngest ordered the cheese ravioli from the kids menu. Again, fairly large portion such that she only ate 1/3 of her plate! The pasta was cooked perfectly and the simple red sauce was good. She actually liked her sisters Alfredo better but was quite satisfied with the ravioli. We also ordered calamari fritti and burrata as starters. The girls wanted the calamari. We were a bit skeptical because we're accustomed to there being a more golden color. To our pleasant surprise, it was cooked through and seasoned quite well. The burrata was for me. I LOVE a good burrata and this was both aesthetically and tasted buds appealing! It came with some juicy and seasoned grape tomatoes with bread. My eldest loved the burrata (never had it before) and my youngest devoured all of the tomatoes. When we ran out of that bread, we put some burrata on the table bread. Speaking of "table bread," this was different from the bread that was provided at the other location. But.. this was MUCH better. It packed more flavor and came with the traditional olive oil, parm, herb and garlic to dip in. Top that with burrata too? Party time! There was plenty of parking when we arrived around 430 - right before the dinner rush. By the time we were leaving, the restaurant was really starting to fill up. Horrible. My fiancé ordered a cold cut and fries and specifically asked them to put each in separate bags. Not only did they fail to do that, they put his cold cut in a tin container with the hot fries. Cold cut is now hot cut. He was so upset because 1, why would anyone in their right mind do this and 2, he asked for them to be packaged and bagged separately - something he shouldn't have to do. The cheese is melted, the only hot peppers they offer are banana. Overall the sub is mid, lacking flavor. Service not good and very inattentive. What a complete waste. We do not live in the area but come out to Rockville/Gaithersburg rather often. I promise we will NEVER return to Mamma Lucia again and advise you to fuggetaboutit and don't waste your time or $. The waitress came and provided us the bread with olive oil (which tasted great). The menu itself is decent and plenty of options. My only complaint was the wait time. While there were a few people already in the restaurant, we did come a little later (after 1pm) and even then, the wait time was a little longer than I expected. The food itself was decent and tasty, but a little on the oily side. Probably a bit too much butter for me, but I can see why it tasted so good. The waitress did stop by once to refill our waters which was nice. There is plenty of parking in the front. Overall, a solid place and I'll definitely come back just to taste the pizza. read more

I've been coming to Mama Lucia's since I was a child, starting at the one in federal plaza. Their cheese calzones and meatballs are my thing. So I know what they should look like. This location definitely needs to work on the quality control, it it doesn't look appetizing to you it probably won't be to the customer. I ordered 3 cheese calzones today and they were small and overcooked and had some topping on the top that I'm not sure what the hell it was. They don't even smell appetizing. It looked like something from Pizza Hut yet I literally paid almost $50 for calzones and I'm not happy. Your food is too expensive to not give a crap about how it's presented. I usually get the eggplant parmigiana, which melts in your mouth with a delicious red sauce and plenty of cheese. The eggplant is masterfully cooked and the portion size is huge. During the pandemic I ordered delivery service and my meal was always piping hot when delivered. Last night, I met a friend who is moving out of the area and she had a hankering for white pizza, so we ordered white pizza and wine. They have a lot of wine choices and they fill your glass. I am always impressed by their warm garlic bread and cheesy olive oil dipping sauce. Last night, some of the servers were masked and some were not. The white pizza was delicious, but it took an hour to get our meal. Other tables who came in after us, were served before us. Our server was very pleasant, but that is way too long to wait for a pizza.
