The bbq popover was okay, but would have been better with more toppings (cheese, avocado, sauce, etc.) There were mixed feelings about the mac & cheese, and the pork belly nuggets were so bad, my husband and I spit them out. The little ones seemed to enjoy their kids meals, and several at our table liked the banana pudding. The doughnut holes were dry and would've benefited from a thicker cream cheese dipping sauce. I heard about Chefry's from a friend and I am always excited to find another good food option in the Lake Norman Area. We arrived and it seemed like a very nice restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring you the food. The menu is on the wall and shows all of the options. There were a number of things on the menu that grabbed my attention that I was excited to try. I ordered the turkey plate with mac and cheese and baked beans as my side. My wife ordered the brisket plate with baked beans and coleslaw. Also our plates came with the Jalapeño Corn Bread. Our food arrived and was ready to tear it up. Overall I was disappointed with the meal. My wife also felt the same way. I will start with the meats and work my way through the sides. The theme of this review will be lack of flavor. The smoked turkey was ok. There were some parts that had some good flavor, but overall not consistent. The brisket was dry and again lacked good flavor. The sides were consistent with lack of flavor, but the highlight was the Jalapeño Corn Bread. Honestly it was the best part of the meal. Service was good and everyone was nice but ultimately I don't think that I will be coming back as there are many other places that provide a better BBQ option. read more

This was our second visit to Chefry's .... This experience was very similar to our first experience. Great service and great food. My wife (Anita) had the Sweet Tea Chicken Salad Sandwich and it is not your momma's chicken salad - This flavor infused chicken salad is made from ingredients that just make your taste buds happy. She also had the Max & Cheese as a side which was full of rich and creamy deliciousness. I (Tim) had the Lumberjack with Tangy Coleslaw.... Both were bursting with flavor... The coleslaw is tossed upon order so there is that crunch with every bite... We ordered a side of cornbread as well.... Wow - I have never had cornbread this tasty.... If for no other reason go for the cornbread... They also have a nice but small selection of beers and wines... Do yourself a favor and go try the flavor at Chefry's.... Our family dined at Chefry's on Sunday for an early lunch. The staff were nice and service was good, but the food was really hit or miss.. The Mac n cheese and chicken tenders were good and the jalapeño cornbread was great, but most of the meats were too dry for our preferences - especially the brisket and the pork belly appetizer. The latter was hard to eat and the accompanying verde sauce didn't seem a great pairing. The cinnamon-like donut balls weren't very good and the creamy sauce they came with was watery; the banana pudding was really good, but served in a jar that only held about 3 bites worth. I debated between 2/3 stars for this review, but figure that folks who prefer their bbq on the "lean side" as opposed to fatty or juicy may find it more enjoyable and I don't want to discourage them from giving it a shot. Nice service Slow to get food Chicken was only thing good enough to order again. Pulled pork was average at best. The ribs which we ordered 2 full racks of got tossed into the garbage. came in after work and before gardening to pick up a little something for later... saw tamales on the menu and got a couple out of curiosity plus a sandwich to go. tamales weren't quite what I was expecting, but other than the poblano verde salsa I wasn't really sure what to expect besides some chicken and pork wrapped up in the masa with a corn husk and everything... interesting flavors and texture but could have stood the moist heat of a steamer maybe? good size chunks of smokey meats, both are tasty but I'm probably going with the pork and a zippy red sauce if I can manage. got home and got into the turkey sandwich and street corn after working in the yard for a bit. turkey is sliced thick and smokier than a Canadian sunset - just a little less oranger. could use a bit of sauce for wetting but the DIY-bacons bring a lot of savor. street corn has a good look and I could probably eat it by the quart on a good day, I would appreciate the option of having some diced japs sprinkled on top to raise the heat a skosh but that's just me... so it's mostly new and has a few wrinkles but it's clean and friendly and pairs well with cider. read more

Finally had the opportunity to try Chefry's. I have heard a lot about it and it did not disappoint. We had the cheese curds for an appetizer. They were the best I have had in a long time. They come with a mild bbq sauce. They were great all by themselves. We both had the Bbq plates. The pork was seasoned as it should be. Very flavorful. The sauces complimented the meat and was by no means needed to make the pork better. The sauces were very good. The spicy one is made with jalapeños and blueberries. Not too spicy at all. There was also the vinegar and smooth sauces. It was great to eat at a restaurant that the owner greeted you, took your order, and then came over to check on us and tell us a little about everything that he makes. Pretty interesting stories on the food he prepares. He certainly has a passion for what he does. If you have not tried Chefry's yet. You are missing out. Will definitely be back soon. read more

Not terrible, but when they use an electric indoor "smoker oven" and don't use a traditional / old-school wood/coal fire smoker it's just not the same for me when there are so many other great choices in Mooresville that do. (I.e, Big Tiny's, Lancaster's, and soon Smoke Pit. Noble Smoke and Midwood still the best in the Charlotte / LKN area as far as I'm concerned). Also, some weirdness about where do I place my order (just so you know it's in the front when you walk in). We tried this restaurant for lunch today for the first time and were so glad we did. I had the chicken salad sandwich with baked beans, both fantastic. There were chunks of pork in the beans and they had a nice tangy flavor. My husband had the special, a meatball sub with a side of Mac and cheese. The meatballs for very flavorful and the Mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy. We will definitely be back to try other menu items. Cute restaurant inside, clean and organized and quick service. This is not your average BBQ place. It is run by a trained gourmet chef. I would describe as comfort food with a creative gourmet twist. I like the spicy blueberry barbecue sauce, but it is not what you are used to from your local BBQ joints. The brisket was perfect with perfectly caramelized fats & rub. The popover was recommended & well worth the experiment. Sounds like a side, but is in fact a meal with smoked meats baked into the popover bread. The mac & cheese is the best I've found around Mooresville. I will also add, I thought the meal would sit heavy, but it was quality food & I rode away feeling great! My husband and I took our grandson and his girlfriend to Chefry's for lunch on Friday, February 9. We had heard some really good things about it and we love a good brisket. We all had the brisket one way or another. They sell it by the pound so it seems they don't trim off any of the fat to make it weigh more. My $16 brisket sandwich was half fat. Once I removed all of the fat, I literally had half of a sandwich. The burnt tip baked beans were good, but not outstanding. They're a bit pricey for a fat sandwich. The half rack of ribs is $28 or a whole rack is $35. We were very disappointed and probably won't be going back. They do have cute decor, though! read more

Since the 1950's I have enjoyed BBQ from many restaurants in states such as Georgia, both Carolinas, Florida, Texas, NY, NJ, and California. Now that I live in the Mooresville area, I have tried nearly a dozen places between Statesville, Denver, and Huntersville. To my delight, I have discovered that the flavor of pulled pork at Chefry's Blue Smoke BBQ is among the best that we have eaten in years. Now, just about every week, we like to pick up a pound of their pulled pork, and then head home to enjoy a "pig out" evening with a movie. The 1 lb portion of pulled pork is generous, and it is well worth $15! It is meaty and juicy, with a perfectly balanced amount of fat, smoke, heat, and salt. The texture of the meat is perfect, and I am impressed that it does not have burnt chunks of skin nor blobs of fat, typical of several of the other area restaurants. The best thing is that the meat is not baptized with spicy sauce nor overwhelmed with vinegar, so we can enjoy its delicious taste with our own home-made sauce at home. Chefrey's needs to try a little harder. We're a group of 6 or 7 guys who make the rounds of Charlotte bbq places for the purpose of comparison. With Chefrey's being relatively new, we needed to try it. The venue/ambience were fine, and the staff all friendly and helpful. But the food was, I'm afraid, a bit so-so. Most of the sides were in the ok category, although in all fairness, the cornbread was just killer good. The let down was in the important stuff. Most of our group usually does brisket as we use this as our benchmark of comparison among places. Chefrey's was about the fattiest we have seen...for one of our group, fat was almost 50% of his pile of brisket. When a couple of our crew tried to offer (ok, a little too abruptly...) some constructive criticism, we got an odd and slightly incomprehensible answer. Ok, bbq...good bbq...is a little bit of an art. And bbq devotees can be a little particular. In this market there is always room for another bbq spot...but you need to have the basics right. My husband and I had order takeout from them a few weeks ago and it was the three meat 4 oz. of each and it was good. However yesterday we ordered the three meat platter again and there was maybe a 2x3" single piece of brisket, the same for the smoked turkey and the rest was pulled chicken. We did NOT get 4 oz. of brisket or smoker turkey but they filled it up with pulled chicken and that's a bait and switch. The plate is not cheap at $25.99. We will not be ordering from them again.
