Found this place by chance when friends and I were looking for places to eat dinner in the area. This place is located in the City Square Shopping Center. Since all of us were down for ramen, we decided to give this place a try. When we walked in at around 7pm, the place was pretty full, but we managed to get seats at the counter. We were immediately given our menus and served water when we were seated. Looking through the menu, I decided to get the char siu ramen (one of my go to ramens to order). I also go a side of gyoza. The wait wasn't long, so we got our food in a good amount of time. This place has really good ramen. My ramen had pieces of fried sliced garlic, and that really helped to step of the flavor of the ramen. The gyoza was good too. Best Oxtail Ramen I've ever had. It's also the first oxtail ramen I've eaten so I have nothing to compare it to. It doesn't matter because this ramen rocks! Came here for lunch with a gorgeous lunch date and I was actually surprised on the portion that the lunch special came with. The broth in the soup was delicious and the noodles were cooked just right so I was very satisfied with that part of the meal. Great food. I got the Shoyu Ramen and the broth was amazing. The pork was super tender and not fatty like most places. Eggs were cooked to PERFECTION. Noodles are thin but still a great filling meal. Came here because my aunt wanted miso soup for her throat that was bothering her. Everything she was eating had no taste or couldn't taste so I bought her here. Place was nice small clean and we were the only ones there so you know the service was little to no wait with a smile...yes My aunt got the miso ramen with six piece gyoza that was very tasty and the noodles was just right and not soggy. She loved it and it opened up her pores/sinuses because she could finally taste and eat happily. I had the oxtail soup with rice and 4 piece gyoza. Ordered delivery so this review is strictly based on food. One of the best Tan Tan broths I've had with a lot of good quality flavor. The mochiko chicken curry was also delicious, the chicken and curry both very flavorful even on their own. Char siu fried rice was really flavorful, definitely one of my favorite fried rice now. Sesame covered mochi balls with azuki bean inside were also a nice dessert to finish the meal. They give good sized portions for the price and every dish was worth coming back again! read more

"It was a dark and stormy night..." Well, actually, it was a cold and blustery February evening and we couldn't find parking at Ha Long pho noodle house so we came to Chef's Ramen instead. There's ample parking at the CIty Square SC as most of the businesses are closed, except the restaurants. We were sad to see Pancakes and Waffles is closed for renovations...but I digress. I didn't review this place on my first visit here last year, but I remember that the ramen broth was tasty, but overly salty. This time, the broths we had were rich and satisfying, not overly salty, and spiced just right. The oxtail soup ramen comes with 4-5 small pieces of ox tail, a lone shiitake mushroom, plenty of gai lon, and a good amount of green onions and cilantro. Oh, and a few peanuts were at the bottom of the bowl as well. The clear broth was flavorful, with a hint of five spice. Finely shredded ginger accompanies the soup and if you need more, just ask. The ox-tail soup comes as a combo, with four plump gyoza served piping hot from the grill. Overall, this dish is reasonably priced vis a vis other places. $13.95 is just about the lowest price I've seen for ox-tail soup anywhere. The tonkotsu ramen combo comes with green (tea?) soba in a miso broth. Like I said, our previous encounter with their broth was overly salty, but this time they got it right. It looks like they diversified their menu to include poke bowls and a dessert of snow ice. This place is worth another visit soon! read more

The only thing I enjoyed in my bowl was the boiled egg and I guess the noodles. I still have the left overs sitting in my refrigerator - like a lot of it.. Me and my family really like ordering from this little ramen place..tucked away in the middle of kalihi, chefs ramen rivals all the other local kine ramen places (sumo, taiyo or dairyu). I havnt eaten at the restaurant itself but I've been ordering through door dash & every single time I've received my order the food was good & the are quick with production. The prices here are great as well especially when you have a family of 6 to feed. Will definitely be ordering and maybe need to consider doing a sit down meal at the shop. First time here and it might just be the last. For ramen anyway. The portions are generous, and the service was good, but the ramen sucked. I wasn't expecting to be blown away with big bold flavors, but man, if you're gonna serve what tasted like packaged ramen that I could have easily thrown into a pot of boiling water at home, at least have some tasty broth to let it swim around in. My co-worker ordered the Tan Tan Chicken Katsu ramen and I ordered the Tonkotsu Char Siu ramen with an order of gyoza to share. The best part of my order, was the four slices of char siu and the egg. I would have been happier eating just that with a bowl of rice. The broth had close to no flavor at all, and the ramen seriously looked, and tasted like it came straight out of a the packaged type sold at your grocery store. In fact, as soon as I got it, I immediately knew it was going to be bland by the pale watery looks of it. I asked to have some black garlic oil drizzled on it, but sadly, it didn't help. I got to try a little of the broth from the Tan Tan, and although that was bland also, the tiny kick of spiciness helped a little. The chicken katsu wasn't so bad. After running errands through what would be considered lunch time, by 2:00pm, Aunty and I were famished and couldn't think of places for lunch with good, quality food. I checked Yelp for ramen close to where we were and Chef's Ramen came up... Normally, I wouldn't order tonkotsu ramen In Hawaii ramen eateries because the soup broth is often heavy and oily, in my experiences. But I wanted the ramen combo which was tonkotsu ramen with gyoza and fried rice. I'm glad I ordered that b/c Chef's Ramen tonkotsu broth is light, yet full of flavor; not to mention how ono the gyoza and fried rice are. This has been my go to place when I'm in the area. ...these days, i usually don't write reviews, but after our experience tonight, i thought i'd share...will try to make this short & sweet =) -space/ambience: a bit cozy, modern, and air conditioned (very important for me as i'm always hot!) -service: it was mentioned some experienced sucky service. tonight though, our server was a wonderful gentleman...he greeted us, asked if we had any questions regarding the menu, offered suggestions, refilled our water, kept himself busy by wiping tables, drying some tableware, tending to other customers, and even held the door open for us as we left! hence we left him a generous tip =) -parking: great! being it's a sunday evening & almost all of the restaurants were closed, there were a lot of stalls available -tan tan wakame ramen: it looked good! generous with the noodles, baby bok choy, green onion, wakame (of course!), a cute, thin slice of char siu, menma (at least we thought it was...oddly it was sweet...weird), and their version of an ajitama. the broth & char siu was most disappointing for me. the broth was diluted, a bit too thin for my liking. the char siu while soft, was not even a whole slice, and the flavor was very subtle =( -tonkotsu char siu ramen: my dinner partner was impressed with the presentation, but very disappointed as well with the broth. like the tan tan, it was too thin, not thick like the tonkotsu we've had in the past. his bowl did have three slices of char siu (not sure if it varies on the type of ramen one orders, or they were running out?), an ajitama, choi sum, the "sweet" menma, and green onion -gyoza: the best part for us was the gyoza SKIN...thin, and chewy! as for the filling, it needed some flavor. fortunately they had gyoza sauce, vinegar, and chili oil available to help bring some taste to the gyoza -fyi: apparently they don't have "hot tea" rather they offer hot water...yes, hot water (this was a first ever for us, to be offered hot water) -conclusion: maybe we will visit one day again, perhaps with our ramen guard up. instead of ramen maybe we will try their katsu curry, i mean one can't possibly mess that up, right? we did feel extremely bad for our server though, as he was excited about the food he served, and wanted to know if we liked the food. hoping this place will work out their kinks, and tweak their recipes as they have the potential to become a "go to" spot read more

Ten tables are all that can fit into this compact establishment, but our selections made up for any lack of elbow room. Sometimes I get a good piece with a good ratio of meat to fat. But one time I got a piece that was almost all fat. It's a gamble, when you win, it's awesome. What the hell is this? No seriously, what the hell is this place? Someone please let me know if the ramen was meant to taste like packaged powdered ramen. If that's the intent then you can stop reading this review right now. I was excited to try this place because of all the social media post but ended up truly disappointed. First of all, the place smelled like B.O from the moment we walked in. It may have been the customer that was already in there but that's not a good start. Next, three of us ordered three different items on the menu. Pork Belly Tonkatsu Ramen (Spicy) - From other experiences, this broth is supposed to be milky & rich. But nope.. Tan Tan Ramen - This is supposed to be spicy, salty, hearty, and with a sesame taste. I doubt this was even Tan Tan. I tasted none of these ingredients. The color wasn't even right. It was pink! Black Garlic Oil with Parmesan Cheese - I don't know if they're trying to copy Agu Ramen's Kotteri or not but if they were then they did a horrible job. It was not even close. On a side note, (this is subjective) parmesan cheese made this bowl of ramen barely edible for me. Cheese Gyoza. There were 4 tiny pieces about the size of a quarter for 6.50! As mentioned before, ALL of the ramen that we tried tasted like packaged ramen that you get from asian markets. My son figured this out because he absolutely loves ramen so we buy the packaged ones for him from time to time and he said it tasted the same. I agreed with him as well. He also said that the package ramens usually make him fart a lot and he was farting every few mintues since we got home for about an hour. I had to re-live the experience every time he farted. Service was standard (going through the motions) and fast. Nothing really more to say about it. The Environment is really small. There are about 3 tables and counter seating against the walls. Overall, no thanks. Even though nothing was wrong with service, I have to rate this place 1 star because I would never come again. The food and price for quality was that bad to me.
