Came here after a long flight and immediately recognized the plaza, as I've been to Islander Drive Inn and Safeway before. The tonkatsu ramen was just okay and rather bland. The shrimp tempura curry was also super sweet and far too runny. By far, the mochiko plate was the best thing we ordered! They should maybe consider renaming this place to something else because surprisingly, the ramen and curry aren't the highlights. Walked in and we were greeted right away by a woman working at the front counter who told us we could pick a table. Once we sat down she came over right away with waters and menus. We ordered, Kim Chee fried rice, 2 katsu ramens, and a combo vegetable ramen with fried rice and gyoza. I don't eat pork and when I mentioned this to our sever she was immediately accommodating and said they could make the fried rice without it. Everything was delicious and portions were generous. Stopped in here by chance as we were hungry and in the area. Not many people dining in but a consistent flow of take out orders and/or pick ups while we dined in. Very pleased with the welcoming vibe from the two workers up front and super quick service to not only order but to get our food. Prices are cheap compared to other ramen places: Garlic Chuka Ramen - 3 stars - for $12.50, the broth was the usual, and not as oily as other ramen places, but I mistakenly expected the black garlic, but I shouldn't have assumed since it didn't say "black". My son liked the soup, but it was a bit bland (but most regular cheaper ramen restaurants soups tastes bland to me unless it's mabo or something else) and average to me. The serving was a regular, large bowl, but the charsiu was a little dry, cold and chewy. I think to give it a more accurate rating, I have to order my usual mabo or seafood ramen to compare with other ramen restaurants. My friend ordered the chicken katsu curry and my son ordered the oyster curry combo. Both were really cheap and a lot, and they liked it. My son said this is the only restaurant that sells fried oyster curry, so he definitely wants to go here again. Service is great, ramen came out fast, and was crowded, which is a good sign. Someone wrote that this place used to be Sumo Ramen that was located at Ranch 99. I used to frequent that place and was so happy when I read that review! When I went in, the electricity was out so it was cash only. Lucky for them they cook with gas so they could still take orders so I ordered the Combo Set B with Chicken Katsu Curry as usual for my husband and the Mini Chicken Katsu Curry for myself.
