This was recommended to is by owners of the B&B we were staying at ( see my review for Mountain Mist Inn). The menu changes with the season due to them being a farm to table type restaurant. You must make a reservation on the weekends! We heard at least 3 people turned away due to the restaurant being full and no tables open until at least 9pm. The place is very small, they do have limited outdoor seating and a very small bar area. When you walk on you can see into the kitchen, pretty neat to watch the owner/ chef work his magic on his tasty creations. Our waitress was very bubbly and could explain everything on the menu. They must be known for their wine, they had multiple pages of wines and a nice wine cellar type area near the restrooms. Jason ordered a Malbec and seemed to enjoy it, it was only $8 a glass. Not too shabby We ordered the cheese/fruit app, loved how it arrived at our table! See my pictures. The cheese was some of the best cheese we have had and Jason is a big cheese guy! I ordered one of the specials for the night-a local fish called trigger fish with a sauce made from the pan drippings, apple and cabbage and risotto! All gluten free. It was amazing!!!!! I think I love trigger fish and cabbage... Who would have thought. Jason ordered the trout- again gluten free. The sauce on it was like a thick sweet glaze. No idea what they made it with but yum! Te mashed potatoes tasted earthy and fresh. Of course we had to order dessert since we were there for Jason's birthday! We had to go all out-we choked down on cloudless chocolate tort, not too rich or sweet. It was the perfect way to end a delicious meal! I called 7 min before they closed and asked if I could please dine. They happily made a spot for me at the quaint bar - which I requested instead of a table. Andy was lovely, patient and accommodating. He was quick to pivot menu choices for me based on my gluten free request. The hummus was zesty and smokey and just right, served with slivers of yellow squash - instead of bread - from the chefs nearby 12-acre farm. Love. The trout was flavorful and sweet. But not too. Asparagus was flash fried, I guess, then lightly grilled. Just right. Grateful to find this lil gem (thru Trip Advisor). Happy to support a conscientious chef and crew. Thank you. read more

Went out for special meal with some friends. Tight little place without a mask in sight. Very uncomfortable to have staff breathing over us without masks. The food was weird. Everyone did get something different and we all had comments about each dish have a strange quality about it. We are all well traveled and well-fed and there was just something off. The bread was some no-knead type recipe and tough. The wine was incredibly disappointing. Bogle costs $9/bottle at the grocery, but one of our group ordered a glass. $8 for two fingers and WARM. The food was just too expensive to garner 'weird' comments. Never again. read more

We went on a night during a major storm and there was only one waiter since others were flooded out of their houses. He was fantastic. He had a smile on his face and served everyone in the restaurant with ease. The food was Spectacular!!!! We were 6 at the table and each were in awe of their dinner. We have come here three times... Each time we vacation to waynesville and it is nothing short of incredible. They make the pasta fresh and right in front of you for each dish. They have local and super fresh ingredients. The chef truly has a gift at putting together beautiful dishes. This last visit I had the special which was risotto underneath blue nose fish that was pan seared wit asparagus. It was creamy and delicious and there wasn't a bite left. My husband ordered the pork shank and they were able to substitute pasta for the potatoes, which you obviously have to have here. I have to say his dish was better than mine. It had sautéed spinach on top and the broth it was all place on was savory and made the pasta melt in your mouth. Dessert was creme brûlée. It was ok. Not my favorite and we will probably get something else next time, but it did the trick. Truly great restaurant!! A must go! read more

It's amazing.. last time I ate there, a few weeks ago, the special pork chop with plum sauce (I think) was AMAZING... best I've ever had... It's a little expensive but totally worth it. A hidden gem in downtown Waynesville! We enjoyed a family dinner on our last night of vacation. Excellent service and amazing food. Fresh & perfectly prepared. I had the brie salad and the chef special for the evening which was short rib ravioli with wild mushrooms in a cream sauce. Delicious. Tasted my father in law's lamb shank which was awesome & my husbands steak pasta which was also awesome. My son practically licked his plate clean of deconstructed lasagna. Fresh strawberry ice cream was yummy and I loved the Bailey's frozen cheesecake. Can't wait to visit again on our next trip to Waynesville. read more

This restaurant lives up to expectations. The grilled romaine lettuce appetizer was done perfectly. My first try at an entree did not go well I ordered the pork chop it was very tough and seemed overcooked. However they were extremely gracious in handling it and I orders the deconstructed lasagna and it was wonderful. I highly recommend it! The eggplant parm was also very, very good. All the pasta is made fresh to order. You can see them making it through the open kitchen. The chocolate cheesecake was very good as well. Service was top notch and very attentive. Hands down the best high-end restaurant in Waynesville. I can't believe The Sweet Onion and Frogs Leap Public House have similar ratings because they are not even in the same league as Chefs Table. We went on a special event night and even though I had made reservations a couple day out, we still had to wait 25 minutes for our table. This is a small intimate place but that had made room for a group of ten. Unfortunately, we were seated next to them. The group was loud and obnoxious. Normally I would have walked out already, but while we were waiting for our table we were seated by the kitchen window and the food looked and smelled amazing. When we were finally served, all of my expectation were fulfilled. There are not words that can adequately describe this meal. Every one of your senses were tingled. The taste and presentation was everything you expect when you spend this kind of green. My wife had the filet, hands down the best beef either of us have ever tasted. I had the lamb shank and had no idea lamb could be elevated to that level. We are both looking forward to visiting again with hopefully a few less loud half-backs in attendance. read more

This is a very romantic place for a nice dinner in the small town of Waynesville. We are out-of-towners so keep in mind we can't compare this to other restaurants in the area. I loved the intimate layout; the wine bottle "wall"/art in the back is beautiful and eye-catching. We were seated immediately with no reservation at the bar directly in front of the kitchen with a limited view of the kitchen which was neat. Seems like this place gets filled up so I recommend a reservation! They didn't make us feel bad for coming in our tennis shoes and hiking outfits (we came straight from a day of hiking), but we felt out of place as clearly this is a nice establishment. If my rating was based solely on quality of the food I'd give this place a 3. The risotto balls were AMAZING and a must-try. I got the hazelnut crusted trout and I really enjoyed it; it had a lot of complex flavored. However, the mashed potatoes were a bit dry. My boyfriend got the special: a Kobe ribeye. We didn't really like it and I hate to say it reminded us of a meal you'd get at an old diner. Again this was a special and not normally on the menu, but it just wasn't very good :( The service bumped my rating up to a 4. Excellent service by the host and our waiter. I really wished I lived in NC so I could come here more often. This was my third Christmas vacation in the mountains, in which my childhood best friends and I meet at Chefs Table. Every year we have gotten the same dish-Black and Bleu Pasta. It's ridiculously delicious. Basically it's consist of handcrafted noodles, hot off the press, drenched in a Gorgonzola cream sauce, and topped with a tender steak. You will struggle to finish it because the portion is large, however I somehow manage every year not to leave a crumb. We have also tried the goat cheese risotto balls and various side salads. Wine is BYOB with a modest corkage fee. Reservations are recommended due to the size. I believe there is one owner who does the cooking (Josh). He comes around and checks to see if things are good. The waitstaff is very professional and knowledgable. This is fine dining at it's best..right here in small town USA. I love this place. Oh, not sure about dessert..we never saved room! read more

The carelessness of the reservations process should be addressed immediately. Chef's Table is a very good restaurant. The food we had tonight was very good indeed. The service was acceptable, and became overly attentive AFTER our food was served. The wait between the bread course and the main course was a bit too long. This venue does not have much ambiance and the lighting is too bright. Its a cramped little place. I have to admit it. Frog's Leap has stolen my heart and nothing else can compare. One of the best meals I have ever had. It's a small restaurant with a small staff, so dining is at relaxed pace with the food hand made for each order. The servings are generous, so come hungry and the wine selection is outstanding. I really like the locally sourced ingredients in the meal and they are not over cooked at all. If you're looking for an in-&-out 1hour dinner this is not the place. However, in my 2.5 hours there (including drinks at the very small bar talking to the Chef) they didn't put a foot wrong. I was actually a little let down to eat here. Not sure if I had too high expectations or what, but I just wasn't thrilled with the service or the food. Everything was just okay. The night started off with a 20 minute wait before we even got our bread. Now I might could understand if it had been busy, but this was 5:30 on a weeknight. There were only TWO other tables with customers. While we were waiting, the chef and one of the waiters seemed to be having an argument over a dish. The waiter ended with "Well, I just want to be able to tell the customer what it is I'm serving them." My husband got the House Salad and I got a Caesar Salad. They were okay, but the Caesar Salad had capers in it, which wasn't mentioned on the menu. I'm not a big fan of capers. For entrees, my husband got the Dr. Pepper Pork Tenderloin, which he truly enjoyed. I got the Bourbon Pecan Crusted Chicken. The chicken was VERY tender, but the sauce was a bit too sweet. I ended up scraping it off. The highlight of the meal was the parmesan potatoes. Those things were AMAZING. For dessert, we had the Godiva cheesecake and the homemade ice cream. Both were very good. Overall, it was an okay experience, but I don't think I'll go back again. read more

Friends highly recommended Che's Table to us. I called for reservations and was informed someone would call back after 3 pm. They did not call back so I called after 3:30 and got a table for two at 6 pm. Maybe I was impatient because service when we arrived was fantastic. We had a lovely table by window. Our server was knowledgeable and informative. The staff knows regulars very well which is a nice sign of a good restaurant. This is a very small and lovely venue so reservations are needed. It filled up by 6:45. The food: nice ciabatta bread and homemade hummus came quickly with our drinks. The crab bisque was lovely - not too heavy with nice crab chunks in it. Not the best ever but for the area which has few higher end restaurants it is terrific. My eggplant dish was fabulous- just st the right combination of flavors. The homemade pasta melted in your mouth. Amazing. My husband ordered the Bourbon Pecan Chicken and again the flavors were great and chicken was moist and tender. You can tell that the chef cares about food and freshness. Definitely will return on our next visit to NC. read more
