Our go to place for NYE dinner. Small quaint restaurant with excellent food. It's taken me this long to write about this year's COVID-19 dinner. 1/2 the amount of tables/people. Our table had the roasted chicken as well as the special, duck. We loved our food. The service is, as always, excellent. Our waiter suggested a stellar bottle of wine which complemented our meal. We moved to Waynesville a little over a year ago and my husband and I have eaten here a handful of times. The ambiance of Chef's Table is really nice. The service is always good but the last couple times we have been here the food was nothing exceptional. The food quality is the reason I gave it 3 stars. We do really enjoy the goat cheese wrapped risotto balls are always a good idea! It is the entrees that we're really a let down. read more

All I can say is that this ranks as one of our 5 favorite restaurants of all time. Excellent wine list with appropriate pricing and the food is excellent. We have been coming here for over 10 years and we have NEVER had a bad experience. Fresh made pasta, sauces are made to order and the caesar salad is the best I have ever had. If you are within 100 miles of this restaurant, make time and go. You will not be disappointed. We were just in the area and ate there 3 straight evenings. as is our custom. The chicken marsala, the braised short ribs and the deconstructed lasagna are worth every dollar you will spend. You will not go away hungry. Wow, this place was really good. Everything we got was amazing, and everything we saw going to other people looked amazing, and I don't use the word amazing very much. We tried the fried green tomatoes which are normally hit and miss in most places. Wow, best I have ever had. Then we had the Black and blue steak pasta which was amazing and Melinda had the Eggplant Pasta. I had some of the Eggplant pasta and let me tell you I hate eggplant. That is the best Eggplant I have ever tasted. I would order that plate for myself next time. It was that good. No complaints here. Very good food and really good when you factor in how reasonable the prices are. We live in Atlanta, and it's very easy to spend $100 on a dinner. It's really hard to feel like you got $100 worth of dinner though. This place is the real deal and with a glass of wine, a coke an hors d'oeuvre, and two entrées we spent less than a $100. A past favorite in Waynesville NC. However visit last night is our last until they make improvements. Changed the menu and now serve fish and chicken dishes. Risotto balls still very good. However place just did not seem very clean. Looked up at AC vents and all were filthy. Service was excellent and friendly. But they took the best dushes off the menu (pork chop and the lamb). My fish (Cobia) was very small portion filet and way too much sauce drowning my pasta below the fish. For $36 way overpriced. read more

There are not enough words to say. It's a little on the boring side when you walk in, but don't let that throw you. The service was perfect (Kelsey), the wine selection enormous, and the food fantastic. We shared mussels in a curry sauce, then a grill romaine lettuce salad. We made a reservation and arrived 5 minutes early. Our table was not ready, and we had to wait 15 minutes past our reservation. It took another 10 minutes to do a drink order. Then another 10 minutes to order food. Main entrée took 40 minutes from order time. Tables are close together and no fault to the restaurant, there was a party that was very loud and cussing from the time we came till we left. We decided not to finish and take it to go. 3 of us went for Monday night dinner with a table reservation. I had Pan Seared Chicken and Rabbit Sausage, Spinach and Tomato, Tossed with Fettuccine in a Smoked Bleu Cheese Cream Sauce. The others had Filet Mignon and Red Snapper. Paired with a red wine suggestion by Joey the waiter. All the food was beautifully plated and looked wonderful. Each of us was very pleased with what we had ordered. One of the better restaurant meals I've had in quite a while. My wife and I have dined at the Chef's Table to celebrate several occasions. The food has been good and the service acceptable. On a recent trip to western North Carolina, I made a reservation to celebrate our 55th wedding anniversary. It was for 6:00 p.m. on a Thursday. When we arrived, we were directed to a table located in a hallway that separates two dining areas. It is adjacent to the pass through window where the servers get the food and drinks. Since it is such a busy and noisy area, we requested to sit elsewhere. We were told that the only other choice would be to sit outside. It was unusually warm that evening and we declined. There was a table for two that opened up in the front room while we were trying to decide what to do and we asked if we could sit there. We were willing to wait a few minutes while it was reset. We were told that it had been requested by other guests who were not there. Rather than make a scene, we left and enjoyed a delightful meal at a nearby restaurant called Bogart's. Dining and celebrating special events is supposed to be fun, pleasant, and delightful. The Chef's Table staff sapped much of our enthusiasm by their shabby treatment. At our advanced age, we are not likely to be celebrating many more anniversaries, but I can assure you that not one will be celebrated at the Chef's Table. read more

Neville is a superior waiter in every way (professional, personable, efficient, observant, you get the picture) and the food was excellent. My wife loved her Classic Caesar Salad and the Chicken Schnitzel. I enjoyed my Fried Oysters and the Grouper Piccata was outstanding. Solid cocktails to start, including a proper Martini. And, easily the best wine list we saw anywhere on this trip. By far. Also, very well priced. You had me at Merry Edwards...As Michelin would say, "Worth a detour". Thanks to Yelp reviewers we dined at Chefs Table last evening. We were taken to our table promptly and enjoyed looking around at the wine inspired decor. Our waitperson was both knowledgeable and attentive. The portions were large and our meal was superb. I had the grilled romaine, huge, but I had to eat it all because it was delicious! Next came the chicken Marsala with spinach, mushrooms and fresh pasta. I never eat pasta, this was so good I had some. Very full half way through I had enough for an interesting breakfast. My husband loved his Calamari and his entree was the Seafood Lasagna. That also was awesome, he saved half for breakfast too. Don't miss out in this gem of a small place with marvelous big portions. read more

Good food and service. Appetizers came out quickly and entrees were little slow due to large party orders but we were given complimentary desert to accommodate. We will go back. I enjoyed the service and the server was very good with the timing and my small requests were met with a smile. I have high expectations of service in a finer dining restaurant and they were met her. That was the highlight along with appreciation of a good wine list. I do not understand why places store red wines in the dining area out in the open that are subject to temp changes of the dining room and kitchen. Maybe its space issues, they do have cold storage for the whites, which is nice. The aspect of reds being OK at room temp is not true if its 80 degrees inside. I have seen this time and again in the South and really frustrated when it is met with the idea that its OK. My bottle was fine though, but would be cautious to order it here when the temperatures rise. The appetizer list is nice and the grilled romaine appy is popular, which we had. It was not grilled in my opinion, it was steamed on the grill under cover, then the nice apple wood bacon added to it. Which is a nice touch and compliment. I heard a server say it was all grilled at once, that was not true and obvious, because it had no bacon fat or grill marks that I could see. A little too much Balsamic glaze was a common comment I heard and agreed with. It was a tasty glaze though and while I did enjoy the plate, it will be noted to not have as much on it, the next time I eat there. Yes, I will be back, there are wines I want to try! Short note on the focaccia bread, too much rosemary and sage, but very nice baked. Butter is a good quality also, which is appreciated and too many places miss this aspect. The duck is a miss here, sorry to say. very flavor less and no hints of that fat I look for with the skin. It is roasted nicely, but I suspect it is parboiled before roasting. That or a lesser quality duck source. While being tender, it really missed the mark on flavor. What was extremely disappointing to me, was that it was served in a bowl and plopped on a bed of mash potatoes, which was not expected or appreciated in any way. Maybe I did not read that on the menu, but the potatoes distracted away from the duck. They also had that glaze issue again, maybe it was a berry glaze or balsamic again. Tasteless skin, mashed potatoes clinging to every bite, was not good. The potatoes were good on their own and very creamy. ( mashed red potatoes ) I do not drink nice red wine to be eaten with mashed potatoes. I order and drink it with my entrée meat or main item on my plate. I do order vegetarian dishes also, it is available here and it seems to be a nice varied selection. The steak was cooked well and easy to eat, it is the 1855 quality of Angus beef, which is from NE usually. The house made pasta is good and sauce done well. Easy to eat and enjoy. So why only 3 stars? Nothing stood out as a showcase plate, the meats are not from local or regional producers. I expected more local famer market fare and while the menu and website states the chef/owner shops the local markets daily, what farmer markets are they talking about. Not here in Waynesville or Asheville as I know of. They say they have a their own herbs, which are not showcased in my opinion. Also, clean the place up, I don't care about it being a simple and small space that is a little worn and dated. Get the stacked chairs and extra tables out of the dining room, the wear and age of them distracts from the meal. Also, put away the xmas lights, caulking gun and misc. items out of the men's bathroom and stored on top of the cabinet. I don't mind the homey simple feel, but make it tidy and have some semblance of order. Clean the walls and baseboards also, get back the fresh and clean feel that could be easily obtained. Be that favorite worn shirt that everyone has. Maybe then and with some self critical examination of the plates and a source for better duck!, the place can re-capture some awards newer than 2006. Get rid of those, until a new one is earned. I will come back though. read more

If you find yourself in Waynesville, you must give Chef's Table a try! I'm going to add this to the list of the three best restaurants in town! The space is tiny, so slowdown, you may just pass it by! Better than average wine and beer menu for such a small place. My Stone IPA was only $4. A steal! Our server was very professional - new silverware replaced the old promptly - he made recommendations and confirmed our choices as good ones. Best of all, we never felt rushed - there was a perfect amount of time in between courses to relax and really enjoy the food. To start- Coconut Curry Mussels - so fragrant, so tasty - and that broth - not enough bread in the world to sop it up! The Grilled Romaine Salad was impressive, in both size and flavor - served with cheese crumbles, dried cranberries and slab bacon. My main course was one of the specials - NY Strip (medium rare) topped with Serrano ham, haricot verts and cremini mushroom demi-glace. Really nice combination! My buddy, Michael, had the deconstructed Beef Wellington - the serving was very generous - he said the filet was perfect - and I do admit I did have a little "dish envy". We're from out of town, & literally googled this restaurant. One of the best choices we made. The deconstructed lasagna was BRILLIANT!! Simply brilliant!!! I in fact detest lasagna, however my husband loves it. He ordered the lasagna & I ordered the black & blue pasta. Mine was delicious, but heavy on the pepper (which was good, but I'm not a huge fan of pepper). I practically stole my husband's lasagna!! We also had the quail legs...FUCKING AWESOME!! And Goat cheese risotto balls!!! Organism in your mouth!!! We were so full we couldn't get dessert!! The ambiance...VERY quaint & romantic!! What I love is the restaurant is a HUGE SUPPORTER of local farms, brewers, & ARTISTS!!! I WAS BLOWN AWAY!!!! There is nothing negative I can say! AND the staff were SOOOOOO friendly! Went out for special meal with some friends. Tight little place without a mask in sight. Very uncomfortable to have staff breathing over us without masks. The food was weird. Everyone did get something different and we all had comments about each dish have a strange quality about it. We are all well traveled and well-fed and there was just something off. The bread was some no-knead type recipe and tough. The wine was incredibly disappointing. Bogle costs $9/bottle at the grocery, but one of our group ordered a glass. $8 for two fingers and WARM. The food was just too expensive to garner 'weird' comments. Never again. read more

This was recommended to is by owners of the B&B we were staying at ( see my review for Mountain Mist Inn). The menu changes with the season due to them being a farm to table type restaurant. You must make a reservation on the weekends! We heard at least 3 people turned away due to the restaurant being full and no tables open until at least 9pm. The place is very small, they do have limited outdoor seating and a very small bar area. When you walk on you can see into the kitchen, pretty neat to watch the owner/ chef work his magic on his tasty creations. Our waitress was very bubbly and could explain everything on the menu. They must be known for their wine, they had multiple pages of wines and a nice wine cellar type area near the restrooms. Jason ordered a Malbec and seemed to enjoy it, it was only $8 a glass. Not too shabby We ordered the cheese/fruit app, loved how it arrived at our table! See my pictures. The cheese was some of the best cheese we have had and Jason is a big cheese guy! I ordered one of the specials for the night-a local fish called trigger fish with a sauce made from the pan drippings, apple and cabbage and risotto! All gluten free. It was amazing!!!!! I think I love trigger fish and cabbage... Who would have thought. Jason ordered the trout- again gluten free. The sauce on it was like a thick sweet glaze. No idea what they made it with but yum! Te mashed potatoes tasted earthy and fresh. Of course we had to order dessert since we were there for Jason's birthday! We had to go all out-we choked down on cloudless chocolate tort, not too rich or sweet. It was the perfect way to end a delicious meal!
