Vibes vibes vibes. That's what Chela's Miami brings to the table. South Florida's bipolar weather canceled my celebratory brunch at a beach location, so we moved the party to Chela's. They did not disappoint! We walked into a beautifully decorated dinning area with a host ready to get us seated. The establishment is a little on the small side but they do make the most of their space. We were there for the "brunch experience" . Unlimited Bellinis, French toast with fried chicken, shrimp cocktail and steak and eggs. For dessert, the Flan. The food is 6/10 at most. Portions were good for one person. As brunch started, the waitresses came around with brunch props. Hats, fans and plastic microphones for singing along with the beats. We finished up our meal and headed to the bar. Sunday funday at Chela's means a live DJ and an open dance floor. We had a great time dancing and mingling as the bartenders fixed us delicious drinks. Food, drinks, and DJ were all great. The short rib on the chilaquiles had a a flavor that lingered on your tongue waiting for the next bite. It was the perfect. I was filled from two quesadillas which had a gooey cheese, eggs, beans, and avocado. Drinks were STRONG, at least on the tamarindo- I could taste the tequila after one sip. Came here for my friends birthday brunch on a Sunday where they host an event called "Cafe and Perreo". The brunch menu was available and I ordered a really good Bloody Mary with the Seafood Chicharron platter that is huge and shareable amongst 4-6 people. I saw some people order chicken and French toast however, most of the food looked basic and I didn't taste anything amazing. I heard the tacos and other menus are better. However, the vibes are it here. We had a time! The music was great, the DJ played a little bit of everything. We had fun dancing for hours. This last throwback Thursday, we stopped by Cheka's , specifically their tiki themed speakeasy "Santa Diabla". We paid a deposit/cover charge that served as partial credit for our dinner tab, and had a fun thirsty Thursday! After being greeted by the host and stepping literally past the curtain, we sat on a comfy banquette and started first with the tiki drinks. I'm more of a fan of sweet drinks than my lady friend - blame those Drake songs- and I started with a pina colada old fashioned (pineapple infused Zacapa 23) while she tried another coconut cocktail. We switched over to my usual regular Mojito and her to her Pinot Grigio. As far as food, they have a tapas menu of which we enjoyed their smoky flavored orange chicken wings and the sweet honey seasoned pork belly bites as well as truffle fries. We also ordered, and keeping with the traditional menu from Chela's, their yummy chicken quesadillas. The decor as well as menu art was classic tiki with skeletons and hammocks. As has been my previous experience at Chelas, service in both the Santa Diabla area, as well as the main restaurant where we stopped by before calling at a night, was top-notch! I also appreciated that the weight staff in the tiki area brought us items from the regular menu. Sidenote, they have different music vibes every night and last night was "Despecho" which is like typically heartbreak Spanish ballads. This place is relatively close by so we decided to give it a chance. The service was great, the employees (Ali C) are very nice, we watched them all work well together. We had the pork nachos and they were very flavorful, the pork meat was warm not hot, also a little short on chips. We had a few libations (chelada & a skinny margarita) and we each had a tequila shot as they say when in Rome. We found the shot glasses to be very small in size and mostly glass, great way to make money. When the brought the check for the evening and we cashed out we also found out about a charge to use a credit card. The food, cocktails and shots are not inexpensive, so the charge for using a credit card was a surprise. Again the employees were great. read more

I've been wanting to go to this place forever now and I'm so happy we decided to do so today. Our waiter Junior was amazing and very accommodating. Super sweet and great recommendations. The guacamole with chicharron was to DIE FOR! omg who would of thought of adding pork to the guacamole. Amazing! My tuna poke bowl was so fresh and the combination of sweet and savory was true perfection. Highly recommend if you like the raw fish and pineapple combo. My husband has the short rib, cochinito and shrimp tacos and he said they were very good as well. The kids cheese quesadilla was so cheesy and very flavorful. We were actually impressed. I've been going here for about 3 years and for most of that time the food and service were consistently good, which is why I kept coming back. That said, my last few visits have been disappointing. The food didn't taste fresh (especially compared to how it used to be), and the staff wasn't very helpful when I had questions or needed assistance. It felt like I was inconveniencing them. I have been here a few times for lunch, and they never cease to amaze me. Flavorful Mexican-American style food can be hard to find but NOT at Chela's. Everything on their menu is full of flavor & so unique. The Shrimp Tacos have been my absolute favorite. They're a bit more limited on the appetizers available around 12 because they make everything fresh so a few items were still being made. The service has been pleasant every time. Every area in this restaurant is picture worthy & the music always on point. The best part is the events they have throughout the week- particularly Jueves de Despecho for all my ladies wanting to sing their lungs out for girls night. Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience. The service was extremely slow, and when the food finally arrived, it was cold. To make matters worse, the drinks were warm. We were also required to sit outside in the blazing sun and heat because the inside was completely packed, with extremely loud music that made it uncomfortable to dine indoors. One important thing to be aware of: a tip is already added to the bill, but when you pay, the system still prompts you to add an additional tip. You won't realize this unless you carefully review the printed receipt afterward. This feels misleading and should be made much clearer to customers. Overall, between the long wait, poor food quality, uncomfortable seating, and the confusing tipping process, this is not a place I would return to or recommend. read more

Checked this place out for their Sunday brunch with a couple of my friends who were after their oyster deal they had heard about. They enjoyed their oysters and practically ordered all the ones the restaurant had, so if you go in looking for the same deal i would suggest getting there on the earlier side of the Sunday brunch. They offer bottomless mimosas, Bloody Mary's, Bellinis, or monopolio (draft beer) for $25, they do not let you mix and match unless someone at your table also orders something different. Then you can mix with whatever they ordered. The place is really cute, with plenty of outdoor seating and a cute bar. We were sat at a high top by the bar, but the stools were dirty with what felt like kitchen grease so we asked to be moved to a regular table, and we were accommodated quickly. Our waiter was sweet and did his best given it was his first day. I ordered the Lomo Saltado with an egg (as it comes) it was delicious, loved the sauce. I was surprised with the size of the dish. The food was surprisingly tasty! However, the service wasn't great. I had to repeatedly ask about the price for the flavored margaritas and was given the runaround until I learned there's a $2 upcharge. Then, when paying, the server mentioned a 20% tip was included but didn't clarify upfront. When I asked, if it was 18% or 20% he confirmed it. His comment after felt unprofessional, unnecessary and uncalled for. Despite the service issues, I'd go back for the good food and drinks, but hoping for better service next time. read more

Came by for a quick lunch bite on the weekend. I'd heard good things so decided to see for myself. The streets and parking were a bit confusing to me. I didn't see the parking garage that is directly behind it. There is minimum street parking in the immediate surroundings. I ended up parking in the shopping center next to the restaurant where the bank is. I couldn't tell if it was allowed but it was a Sunday and I was tired of going in circles. (Good news is my car was still there when I returned!) This place was NOT busy for a Sunday early afternoon. Had me a little worried. I sat the bar since I was by myself. There were maybe two other patrons who were getting ready to leave. The menu was quite diverse. From tacos to hamburgers. The bartender initiated conversation and made some recommendations, stating that I had to try the tacos if this was my first visit, and definitely to have the burger next time.... I ended up with a frozen margarita and three tacos (shrimp, beef, pork? I think). They were not large but all very decent. I could definitely have more than 3. The drink I didn't love actually. Just not a big margarita person but persuaded myself to try it. Overall service was very attentive. Prices are decent. Happy hour looks tempting here. *Based off brunch experience alone* My group came to check out the $1 oyster offering and we essentially cleared out everything they had for the day. The oysters themselves were good plus the onion vinegar sauce that I love. That was a great starter but the main meal really shone for me. The hangover burger plus Parmesan fries were the perfect brunch option. The fries were so good my group ordered a side to try for themselves. I'm going to start by saying that I like this place a lot, their Guacamole and chicharron is delicious ( they could put a little more Guacamole thou), their smash burger great and their chicken quesadilla very good also. I was very disappointed this past weekend when we went and it was super full, we are only 2 elderly people and there were about 3 or four tables available but we were told they were reserved, so next time we go we will call and reserve a table for my husband and I. They sat us across from the bar on high table and those are the most uncomfortable high chairs we have ever sat on. If you are elderly and suffer from back pain or sciatica and that is the only sitting available I suggest you leave. I was very dissapointed !!! Because I like this place alot. read more

Super cute Mexican bar and restaurant in Miami lakes. I came in for the first time for happy hour on a Thursday and it was great. I made a reservation online so there was no wait time. Our server was good and pleasant. And great evening vibes. When we came in we were given the regular menu and the happy hour was never mentioned, however they do have a QR code on the table with all the menus and specials. We had the guac and chips, the pork tacos and the quesadillas . Everything we had was pretty good for a quick meal. Same goes for the drinks. We had tequila shots , margaritas and micheladas . Came here on a Friday night to indulge in their handcraft cocktails and salsa dancing outside with the dance instructor. This salsa dance instruction class doesn't start until 10 PM on Fridays which was so much fun! We arrive there around nine went to the bar. It was pretty packed. They have a nice dance floor the DJ played classic Reggaeton hits, there's also another section on the opposite side of the bar. We can sit down and actually have a restaurant like experience and eat food. I ordered the fish tacos and they were OK nothing mind blowing or out of this world to be honest. read more

Stopped by for Happy Hour to grab a quick small bite and maybe a couple of cocktails because truth be told the HH menu looked decent and I needed to kill some time before a dinner reservation elsewhere. The issue wasn't to be seated even though it wasn't super crowded but the waitress ruined the experience for me because not only did she take 20 minutes to come get my order but then she seemed annoyed for some reason, obviously not my fault, and kind of in a rush to get my order and disappear yet again and that's exactly what happened. The lobster tacos came out pretty fast, in all honesty and they were ok. Same for Tommy's margarita which was actually good and refreshing but that was that and the woman ditched me again. I was trying to understand why she was rushing and disappearing when the joint was all that packed for God sakes so I can only assume she's even worse later in the day. Anyways, no patron should be treated like that and even the hostess asked me if someone had already taken my menu and when I told her what was happening she acted as if that's something common with that waitress so that says a lot. I'd like to come back and try a few other menu items and possibly sit and enjoy some of the live music but I'm a bit apprehensive for a good a reason, we shall see. read more

Was meeting up with a gf for dinner and I had heard good things about Chela's figured it would be fun to try. We got there early and there were plenty of tables but it did get more full as the night went on. The place itself has a fun vibe, it was raining but there was a big out door space with tables as well. Our server was pretty attentive, and our orders were accurate and came out pretty fast. Now for the food and drinks. While I waited for her to arrive I ordered guacamole from the happy hour menu, now the description said it was made to order but sir... excuse me... this was not made to order. First it came out within a minute of putting the order in, and tasted like it had been sitting out. It was ok since it was happy hour prices but honestly I'd probably have sent it back if it wasn't. My gf ordered a mango margarita to start, and lomo saltado and wow did that lobo look goooood. I almost ordered the same but wanted to get something that could be reheated later so I opted for the chicken quesadilla and the spicy one. Great choice on my part, the dipping sauce tasted like ketchup and mayo mixed but the quesadilla was plump, and tasty, no sauce needed. Second round of drinks, she got a tamarind margarita that she said was even better than the mango one and I noticed they had a spicy guava margarita (my fave) but when asked our server said the spicy one is better so I stuck with that. All in all, I'd definitely go back for another girl's night but will be passing on the guac. read more

This restaurant has an amazing location in the heart of Miami lakes. They have indoor and outdoor seating and The decor is beautiful. I really enjoyed the DJ / live music playing in the inside near the bar. Our waiter Suzy was wonderful. I appreciated her attention to detail and friendliness. The drinks were my favorite part and they were on point. I ordered the guacamole & chips. they only give you very little guacamole and too many chips. I won't order this in the future unless I get there during happy hour. The Mexican chicken wings were a great touch with an amazing mole flavor. I highly recommend this. I also ordered the "Fileton tacos" and they arrived cold so I had to return them and when they came back warm, they were doable and worth eating. The chicken quesadillas were decent as well. This place also isn't a legit Mexican restaurant but that's ok. I enjoyed the drinks more than their food so if I ever come back it will be just for cocktails and to listen to their live music as it's a total vibe! read more

Came to Santa Diabla - their hidden speakeasy.. for the "GRINCH BAR THEME " since it was all over the news and IG ... and we even booked a reservation with deposit . First of all it's inside Chela's restaurant.. so it was hard to find . We waiting for our table to be ready and the place it's super small maybe like 10 people fit there! Barely any decorations of the grinch but an outdoor inflatable & some stickers in the wall . The staff is wasn't even with Christmas attire as expected or dress up as the grinch which it was the reason why we went there . The ottomans "chairs" were super uncomfortable and even though it was just us two .. we were almost sitting outside of their "door" curtain that's separate the bar from restaurant, when ask for something more comfortable they said that's all they had. Then we get the menu .. and from the whole menu only two pages were "grinch" theme . The drinks were horrible, super bad combination of flavors; even got a burnt marshmallow. The staff was great which it's not their fault of a poorly executed speakeasy theme bar. Needless to say don't spend your time and money coming here . Not what it seemed online . read more
