Chelo's is the kind of place that the customers all know the staff name. Its not a big place, and certainly not fancy. But if you are looking for good food, great service and a place you feel like coming back too, time and time again, this is that place. We got the breakfast quesadilla and meat lovers omelet. The portions are always large. The omelet comes with your choice of toast, which we get heavily buttered. A few months ago, my dad brought home an omelet from Chelo's and after tasting it, it was only right that I dine in. Chelo's was busy for breakfast but the servers maneuvered through, taking dine in and takeout orders in a timely fashion. They turned tables over quickly and the food came out way more quickly than I expected with the rush. Even with the quick turnaround, I was not disappointed. The food was hot and extremely fresh. The omelet was perfectly seasoned and loaded with veggies and cheese. I highly recommend upgrading to the loaded hash browns, they were delicious and loaded with onions, peppers, and cheese. The inside of the diner is simple, with decor showing the history of Cleveland as well as the roots of the owner. It's not a huge restaurant but it stays packed for good reason. The food is pretty good for what it is .. average diner/family restaurant type fare. No complaints there. The prices overall are fair. However - on our last dine in visit there (granted we have not been here often) we were sat towards the back of the place and we could smell the musty/mildew smell coming from the back room where I believe they wash dishes. Our food was already ordered so we just dealt with it and decided to just ask to not be sat back there in the future. The future was this past weekend and when we walked in we saw a line to wait which stretched to the back of the restaurant - and you guessed it - it totally reeked - could not stand there for even 2 minutes. Would like to return for the food - the service is also excellent - but not until they clean up their act and get that awful stank taken care of. read more

All their hand helds are amazing! The corned beef is as good as any deli. The sides are equally impressive. Wait till you taste the onion rings. Home made soups and deserts will let you know your at the location of a quality chef. Even better than all of the above, on Wednesday and Friday nights he makes dinner specials from Prime Rib to Osso Buco to grilled or fried fish. I was pleased to find that Kalie's Restaurant was open early and located so close to my home. Kalie's is a small restaurant with older booths and mismatching plates. Don't let this deter you. I was very pleased with the experience of a home cooked meal. For example, I thought I'd try out the pancakes. I was so surprised to receive two heaping pancakes that literally took up the entirety of my plate. They were so large I was able to share them with everyone at my table and still had to get a to-go box. Beyond them tasting great, they'd make for a great instagram photo because they are bigger then the size of anyone's face. The waitress was extremely pleasant and attentive. Unassuming diner on Mayfield avenue. I've driven by it a gazillion times and never knew it was here. Some better signage might get some more customers through the door. Very basic economy diner that serves breakfast, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and that's about it. It's open 7-2 Monday to Sunday. Not a high volume place. Only one waitress working. Lunches are about 10 bucks out the door. They were out of soup and burgers when I stopped in so they aren't always expecting a big crowd. Clean even if a bit rundown. Parking in the back. Service was good and somewhat abrupt. Lunch was so-so. I wouldn't call it cozy. Just a veey basic place to eat. Nothing spectacular. read more

I had to pick today of all days to hit this spot. They were packed. They had just sat a table of six and a table of eight right before I walked in. A few other tables of two were also early in their lunch experience. And one waitress. Sounds like a recipe for disaster. But I will say this. She was a hustler. She basically ran back and forth between tables and kept everyone happy. By the time I left almost every table was busy. The food was good. I had a traditional gyro, and water. I tried to keep everything simple and easy so I didn't get tied up too long in there. The decor could use some serious freshening up. The menu was ok, I didn't see too many out of the normal things to try. Overall it was a fine place for lunch. But that waitress was an inspiration! read more

The good: Low prices. Fast and friendly service, even on a crowded Sunday late morning. Seems well-run. Clearly popular--I've been a few times, and there are always a lot of people. The bad: Fairly small menu. (I think they are only open for breakfast and lunch, and their breakfast menu is surprisingly short.) Not much atmosphere. Pancakes are fluffy and good, but way too big to eat (one is a meal, but two is the smallest order) and served with plain non-maple syrup that isn't nearly as good as the pancakes deserve. Scrambled eggs came mixed with globs of brown meat grease (or something like that)--very unappetizing. The meat-eaters in my party agreed with me: it's OK, but not good enough to draw us back again. If my friends wanted to go there, I wouldn't refuse. TIP: there is parking in back off of Green. read more

Good food, reasonable prices, clean and friendly. I don't eat meat - get the veggie omelet every time. Hubs has eaten his way through the menu. We are both happy. The food is tasty and portions are big. I like that they have grits on their menu. The servers are beyond friendly and efficient. They have a lot of regulars and greet people like they are family.
