Everything looked delicious but I took the employee's recommendation and tried the Al pastor bowl. It was amazing! So flavorful with pops of brightness from the pineapple. The guys were so welcoming and explained all the different choices and helped me make a bowl that I loved. We ordered Mexican cokes and decided to eat in-house. When I went up to order an additional soft drink from the fountain, the guys gave it to me at no charge. I felt welcomed here and the prices were excellent. The beef in the Birria was probably the best thing but the overall birria taco experience seemed lacking. Again, maybe I built it up to be something it wasn't. I left San Antonio, TX in 2017 and Southern California in 2011. Tacos in both places are vastly different, but the few similarities are foundational. Good tortillas, quality ingredients, and care. I never really ~loved~ the South Texas soft tacos, but they were tacos that weren't the Americanized gunk. For what it's worth, those gunk tacos were what I knew as tacos growing up, but once you taste a SoCal taco, there's no going back. Anyway, Cilantro. I ordered three tacos - barbacoa, carnitas, and steak - as well as the mexican street corn for delivery through Uber Eats. I was visiting from out of town and really didn't have the highest expectations. It was late, there was a hockey game on, and I just wanted food. But whoa. The meal started with the corn and just wow. Juicy and crema with just the right amount of correct spicy. Put it down, put it down now. Move to the tacos. Fabulous! My only mistake was not asking for extra cilantro and putting the pickled jalapenos on all of them. I put lettuce and sour cream on one and that was overkill, but not a total disaster - I just won't repeat that. Next time I'm in the area, this is a guaranteed stop or delivery must. The food is generally good, and they get the order ready fast (too fast since we have to drive a ways to get there). However, if it weren't for the fact that my husband loves them, I would never get take out from there again for one simple reason- THEY DO NOT LABEL THEIR BURRITOS. Like how hard is that? This is very consistent. Weeknights, Friday, Saturday all but one of maybe about 10 times we've been there, over the last few years (so it's not just one person, they obviously are not trained to label them or they aren't enforcing the training) my husband and I get very similar ingredients, one of us is half way through when we realize it's wrong and then I haven't started yet and his is something I don't like. We have to open up the burritos and inspect them like exploratory surgery. This makes a mess and a poorly formed burrito. If I want that, I'll make them myself.
