This is a small shop and a total hole in the wall but it delivers THE BEST tacos in Whittier. Not to mention the $1.10 pricetag. I eat here at least a few times a month and these tacos are just as delicious as the first time I had them. I will concede that I have never had anything else from here besides the Carne Asada tacos with everything (salsa, onions, cilantro) but I can't help it, they're so good. The only downside is that actually eating here (I've always gotten to go) is pretty depressing considering the rundown nature of the building but this place isn't about ambiance, just pure unadulterated delicious tacos. Oh Chema's Tacos. I truly do enjoy these tacos. Good flavor and perfect price. I always get Carne Asada and Carnitas.

Chemas has to step it up! Went there recently and the quality has gone down a bit. The Asada meat was mixed with hard recooked meat and fresher one, which added a bit of texture problem . Their salsa bar has gone to hell , they're not keeping it up! The carrots and onions in vinegar were turning black* very unappetizing, this was never the case before. I also got a pretty bad stomach ache about 30 min after eating. Management needs to never let this happen again, and they need to reevaluate their standards. read more

I've been going to Chema's since he was in a mobile lunch type truck parked on Rosemead in Pico Rivera and I use his taco's to rate other places that claim to have great taco's and so far they all pale in comparison,..the only thing better than a Chema's carne asada taco is a Chema's lengua taco. THE BEST TACOS IN TOWN! Chema's Tacos is definitely a hit on my list. It's been in business over 20 years. The place is super small, parking is tight but service is fast. You get in you get out. If you want real authentic mexican tacos you must go! The menu is basic "just tacos." They are very inexpensive. Like others said, you can make it a meal under $5. Unlike King Taco or El Atacor, they make it while you wait... the meat is fresh and the flavor of the carne asada is to die for...It may look like a shack, but sometimes that's where you get your best tacos. Let me warn you, it gets super packed on the weekends so don't expect sit down, take it to go. From what I heard, Chema's Tacos is #1 for a lot of WPD Officers and SFS Fire...enough said. Tacos. All they have are tacos. No burritos, no sopes, not even chips. Just TACOS. They are a good size, with 2 regular corn tortillas, plenty of meat, onions and cilantro. What can I say? This place really does offer some great tacos for a great price. It's also walking distance from my humble abode so that aspect really helps with the four stars. Definitely not the best tacos in town. The tortillas were straight out of a bag and barely warm, the buche was soggy, the lengua was flavorless, they literally drown the tacos in a terrible salsa. I ordered a chicken taco with nothing on it for my daughter and they put salsa on it and tried to wipe it off instead of making a new one. The radishes were brown. Went here for the first time. Very disappointed. Tacos are bland and only one type of salsa which has no spice at all. Had the Carne asada, pollo, chorizo, buche, and al pastor. Chorizo was burnt. I just moved to Whittier, and I was looking for some good Mexican food to eat since there are so many places around. I decided to try Chema's Tacos based on the reviews on yelp. First off, the parking lot is tiny and it is pretty odd to get in and out of. But I was able to park my car and walk in. This place is the definition of "hole in the wall". There is only a few tables and the counter area is literally a whole in the wall. I didn't see a menu at first when I walked in. So I tried to order a carne asada burrito. The worker who was friendly said they only had tacos. So I had two asada tacos. OMG. They are the best asada tacos I have had. They were filling and tasty. The price is also right. It was like $1.10 each. I wold have given it a 5 but the parking sucked and the place was really small. I highly recommend this place because the tacos were good. They also had some less common tacos. They had "cabeza" and "lengua". I may try them next time, being asian and all, should be second nature. LOL read more

I haven't written a review in some time but felt like I had to do this one after someone complimented me on a recommendation for Sergio's Tacos in Commerce. While Sergio's and King Taco are great and I still think King Taco has the best carne asada in the land for tacos Chema's wins. No contest. Found this little gem thanks to all you yelpers while on a sales call in Whittier. At first glance one would be a little put off by the sketchy looking building which doesn't get much better once you get inside, however history should tell you these places usually have the best food. And this time, history was correct once again. Although they do have a limited menu (carnitas would be a nice addition) the tacos were excellent. I ordered 2 carne asada and 2 al pastor tacos with everything and they didn't disappoint. The tortillas were cooked to perfection and had a very slight crisp to them and the meat portions on each taco were decent. I personally preferred the carne asada and I am usually an al pastor kind of guy but they both were excellent. This will be my go to taco spot when back in the area. read more
