I had 2 procedures done at Cheng Plastic Surgery ( asian eyelid surgery and bottom blepharoplasty to remove under eyes fat and skin) I am very impressed with the result and the care I received. First of all, the facility is so clean and cute. It makes me feel like I was going to a spa instead of going in to a surgery facility. The office was nicely decorated. All the staff were nice and attentive to me at all times. Dr. Elbert Cheng was the one who did the surgery for me. Not only he is so skillful but he is a kind, nice, and humble person. He was so attentive to me every time I see him. I saw him two times before I did my surgery and never felt that he was rushed to see me and always spent a lot of time answering my questions. The night before surgery, he texted me with his personal cell reminding me to take my medication and eat my breakfast, wash my hair and face, and mouth before coming into surgery. After I was done, he constantly checked in to see how I was doing. When I saw him the day after surgery, he informed me that I will be more swollen the next few days and normalized everything to help me with my recovery. I did both surgery while staying awake and did not experience any pain. He prescribed me pain medication but I did not take anything, not even Tylenol. I feel that I have no pain due to his skillful technique of performing the surgery. Whenever I have questions or concerns, he would reply my text in between his surgeries and even late at night on the same day. He is always so attentive and responsive. I found this clinic through a quick google search, and I was able to get a series of appointments asap. There was a spot on my face (due to injury) that I wanted to remove, and through my doctor's expertise, she was able to recommend the best treatment for my skin type, etc. Asians tend to have more concerns when it comes to removing dark spots, but she was able to work around that just fine! I interviewed several plastic surgeons but what I loved about Dr. Elbert Cheng was his passion and his vision on what he can do for me regarding my eyes. I lived an hour away from Saratoga but drove down from Marin to have him do my blepharoplasty. I was only looking for lower eye surgery but he recommend removing and repositioning a little fat from my top lids and removing a little skin. I never imagine how much I loved it but what matters more is how he cares and checks up on you and works with you if you have concerns and is always there for your questions and follows up on it. This review is for a consultation + microdermabrasion appointment I had with their aesthetician, Nam, last week. Background: I was looking for a solution to some shallow atrophic acne scars I have on my cheeks, mostly boxcar. My condition is very mild, and so I was looking into less invasive procedures such as dermabrasion and came upon Cheng Plastic Surgery. Scheduling an Appointment: This was very quick and painless. I called the office and, after explaining briefly what I was looking to treat, they recommended that I have a consultation with Nam first, before exploring more invasive procedures with one of the doctors. My Appointment: I met with Nam and we sat down in her office to discuss what I wanted. Overall, she was very friendly. I explained that I was looking to treat my mild acne scars, and specifically pointed out that I mainly wanted to treat my atrophic boxcar scars. She asked about my skincare routine and nothing there seemed to cause any alarm. I mentioned that I had looked into microdermabrasion a bit but wasn't sure if this was the best treatment. She said that I could do a microdermabrasion or hydrafacial, and said that she wouldn't recommend doing too many treatments of microdermabrasion as it "thins out the skin". She asked if I had availability to do the microdermabrasion facial same day (this appointment was originally just for the consultation), and I was like sure, why not. Now this is where most of the negative part of my review comes in. I had completely forgotten until I was laying down, but Nam had neglected to ask if I had recently used any retinols or exfoliants on my face. If she had asked, I would have remembered that I had exfoliated only two days before and I would hope that in that case, she would have asked me to reschedule to prevent further irritation to my skin. Instead, we start the procedure and it was not until after starting the procedure, after she noticed some intense bruising on my temple, that she decided to ask if I had exfoliated recently. This indicated a lack of knowledge and prep on her part. The microdermabrasion procedure itself, other than the bruising, was uneventful; she followed up the microdermabrasion with a weak chemical peel and then gave me a moisturizing facial. I could tell during the procedure that the bruising was intense, as she seemed to be trying to constantly remind me that "bruising can be common in sensitive skin". I have my doubts about this still, and the whole situation gave me a vibe that she wasn't completely practiced in microdermabrasion. However, she was correct to warn me about purging (which my skin definitely did). Also during the procedure she started advertising some kind of procedure for my lips, which I found particularly confusing because I didn't mention my lips at all during our consultation and was not interested. After the procedure, the aftercare instructions were vague and rushed. I was handed two jars of something (I later found out were Alastin products), and even when I asked "what are these" she would reply "oh just something to help your healing". I had to ask a lot of clarifying questions because the instructions were so vague up-front (how often to apply, where to apply, at what step in my skincare routine to apply, etc.). Despite this, Nam was very friendly and answered most of my questions, and gave me a private number to contact her in case anything came up, which I appreciated. A week later, my skin has purged and the bruising is gone, basically back to normal with a touch bit more brightness. Nam did warn it would take multiple sessions for greater results so I won't fault her for the procedure itself, but I am still disappointed that I wasn't given more advice on my atrophic scarring until my follow-up call today (she suggested microneedling, which I am considering). Final Thoughts: All-in-all, I feel OK about the microdermabrasion and I find Nam very friendly and easy to talk to. Due to the cost (it cost $200 for the single session), I won't be making this my primary treatment, but I would be open to doing it again. My disappointment mainly stems from the feeling that she didn't give the impression of being very knowledgeable or, at the very least, concerned, about treatment options about my atrophic acne scarring. If you are going to get spa services or treatments done at Cheng Plastic Surgery, I highly suggest to do your research beforehand and ask a lot of clarifying questions. read more

I went to Dr. J. Cheng about 18 months ago for a Rhinoplasty and she did a fantastic job. She answered all my questions (and there were a lot) and was so patient through all the healing process. A year later I fell when walking my dog and split my lip all the way through up to my nose. The emergency room stitched me up, but there was a small scar which made my lip uneven. It wasn't that noticeable to other people, but it was all I saw. She looked at it, and once it healed completely, used a filler to even my lip and the scar out. I've tried Botox, Thermage, AquaGold and HydraFacial here. I highly recommend Dr. Jacqueline! She is super caring and professional. I also like Nam, who does the HydraFacial for us. She is a beautiful, careful aesthetician. My skin does improve after several times of HydraFacial. Performance varies from people to people. While other treatments work well, I would say AquaGold seems not that helpful to me. Will not try it again. After I read other reviews... I would say, yes, I agree that the instructions about how you take care of your skin after a treatment (like AquaGold) is a little bit vague. It doesn't matter much to me but I suppose that would matter to some other patients. My suggestion is: why not give us a piece of paper that prints all the instructions instead of just saying it?
