It appears to share owners with Eastern's, so the food and recipes are very similar in taste and preparation. The same comments on spice levels apply here; if you like spicy food, ask them to amp up the peppers or ask for some hot pepper oil. Egg rolls were pretty good, a little oily, but it's a new fryer and I think they're still getting it burned in and figuring out the kinks. Our standard dishes (kung pao chicken and cashew chicken) were decent enough, although the kung pao is very bland unless you ask for spicy or get additional peppers. A squirt of sriracha usually fixes it. Hot and sour soup was pretty decent for strip mall Chinese, not perfect but good enough. Delivery, take out and eat in are available, but it's a small restaurant, so big parties will be an issue. They're good about packing stuff well, so if you have more than 2 or 3 people, get it to go and take it home; it'll still be acceptably warm when you get it home. Came here on a whim for some takeout, the sesame chicken and general tso tasted about the same and the lo mein was pretty good for what it was. I was surprised to find a place that had eggrolls with actual filling in them (a lot of places are really skimpy on the eggroll filling), although it seemed a little doughy inside. I "discovered" this restaurant when I was in the area, looking for the previous occupant - a kabob house. The location is spotless with a small bar and a few tables. Everyone was very friendly and it was immediately obvious that many of the customers, mostly take-away, were regulars. On my first visits, I decided to eat in. On this visit I decided to take away. After placing my order at the counter, I commandeered an empty table to wait for my order. In the interim, several patrons arrived to collect their o dead. Given the number of pending orders, I expected a bit of a wait aand was pleasantly surprised when my order was completed in roughly 10 minutes. I ordered a dinner portion of Mongolian Beef and a small Hot/Sour soup. Even with my 20 minute drive home, the soup was still hot - very tasty, filled with vegetables that had a bit of a kick without simply being "hot". I ordered the Mongolian Beer "extra spicy" and when I opened the container, I could see dried chilies mixed in. Mongolian Beef incorporates white and spring onions and this rendition contained a good amount that was balanced by a healthy portion of steak. Extra spicy had its share of heat but like the soup, not just flavorless "hot". The cost was in the $14 range - not bad considering the portion size. I'll most certainly return for good American Chinese food! read more

I ordered from here for the first time a couple months ago, and did the order as a drop-in. I was very pleasantly surprised to walk in and see the former owner from Easterns. I knew right then and there I was going to have some good food to take home. She brought many of her former staff from Easterns with her (while there I got to talk to her and she said she sold Easterns, then moved away and came back to open Cheng's). Our usual place close to home was closed due to the Coronavirus. Since my husband was craving Asian food for dinner I got on Yelp to see what I could find. I found another place on Pleasant Valley that had four stars. After reading a few of the reviews I soon realize that the good reviews came from the previous owners when in fact the restaurant had recently been sold to new owners. Spectacular food. We started with egg rolls, crab Rangoon and wonton soup. Everything was excellent. My wife raved about how good the crab Rangoon was. For the main course, wehad the Singapore Rice Noodles and roast pork lo mein. Again. Everything was terrific. The only drawback is that they were busy. But it was 6:30 pm on a Friday so what do you expect. We didn't mind the wait. At 70, I have been cooking Chinese food since my early 30s. I've dined in Chinese restaurants in NYC, SF, San Antonio , LA, Boca and more. I'm picky and often critical, but I just had a perfect meal from Cheng's Winchester, VA. The hot and sour soup was perfect with a generous amount of large, fresh chunks of bean curd (that's tofu to you yuppies). The hot and sour spices were perfectly balanced in a rich broth that was not too salty, for a welcome change. I could actually taste the shrimp in the egg rolls because they were large enough to require more than one bite to consume, unlike the microscopic shrimp often found in this appetizer. The lo mein noodles were not mushy. They were perfect; with just a little bit of firmness, almost like an al dente spaghetti. The shrimp were large and flavorful because they were not overcooked as one so often finds in lo mein. The beef and chicken in this combination dish were similarly wonderful. My most lavish reviews have always had at least one criticism. But this is a first. As I said, it was a PERFECT meal. As Schwarzenegger so famously said, I'll be back! Gary S. I had come to dislike almost all local "Chinese" restaurants due to tasteless food, higher prices, DIRTY places, etc. After reading some reviews on Facebook I decided to try this one. I managed to make it in just before the Lunch Specials ended (3PM) and placed my order after a pleasant chat with a lady, who I assume was the same I had heard about leaving Easterns and starting her own place. 2 Lunch specials (General Tso's & MooGoo GaiPan) and an order of Crab Rangoon with a side of Sweet & Sour Sauce. $14.99 out the door. We ordered several items, fried spring rolls, sweet and sour chicken, pad thai chicken, kung Pao chicken, combo fried rice, and egg rolls. The sweet and sour chicken, kung pao chicken and spring rolls were pretty good. The fried rice was really bland for my taste,but the texture was good and it wasnt horrible. I didnt try the eggrolls so cant comment on those. Now, I ordered Pad Thai because I didnt want Chinese, but didnt want to make another stop and I wasnt expecting much, but WoW.. It was seriously on point. I will order it again to make sure it wasnt a fluke but if it tastes how it did tonight, this will be my go to spot for Pad Thai. read more
