Great food! Hidden gem in Front Royal. Don't drive by..... stop and try them out! Crying Tiger was excellent!

Mom and I stopped in after a visit to local Christendom college. One of two Thai places in FroRo! The bolgogi beef appetizers had a delicious dipping sauce and were pleasantly lightly fried dumplings. Having eaten Korean beef I'm not sure why they were so named. I got the crispy fried duck which was so good. A whole buck of duck pieces breaded and fried served on a bed of sautéed cabbage and with spicy sauce served in an accompanying bowl. Mom ordered the seafood in noodles. The seafood was hit or miss. The shrimp and scallops were great. The mussels while fresh had no taste. Like they were steamed in water. All in all a good meal for a decent price. read more

Ordered takeout via phone on a weekend evening, and they initially said they did not take orders over the phone but also did not have an online ordering site when we asked. We eventually were able to place an order and pick it up after half an hour. Ordered a Papaya Salad which comes with shrimp. There were 2 shrimp pieces, and the salad sauce had the typical tangy taste of this salad. The salad was pretty pricey for the amount and 2 pieces of shrimp. Holy crap. This place is insane. I was never expecting to find such delicious Thai food in Virginia! This place has insane price to portion ratio, and the cooks are definitely Thai. Everything was so tasty, and the mango sticky rice was probably the best I've ever had for only SIX DOLLARS. Insane. A thai iced tea was $2.50!!! The portions are so generous. The interior is plain, and service is sweet! I'd come back here before I left town just to eat the mango sticky rice again. read more

Most dishes comes with rice!!! Nice location, easy to find just right off the main road a bit, near a quiet residential neighborhood. Authentic for sure, kitchen is buzzing with activities at all time either for the restaurant or take out. Very nice service and not pushy. The dishes have pictures in case you're confused. Great Thai food in a hole in the wall motel. After a long day of riding and getting in late, we were ecstatic to find this little place open & close by. We both tried something different. I tried something called crying tiger steak. It was slightly sweet & spicy steak cut into strips. It was cooked with veggies and came with coconut rice. It was pretty good. I also had a Thai tea that was good. My friend liked the curry he got as well. I would recommend eating here. read more

Have been customers for over 8 years. Ordered takeout tonight using the online menu. The food was good and the portions generous, as usual. But the prices were 30-50 percent higher than their online menu shows on 2/20/2026. $48 total per the menu was $63 when I picked up the food (excluding tax). They are of course free to charge what they wish, but Buyer Beware if you're using the online menu. read more

Excellent food, flavorful, big portions and fresh. Stopped by for dinner today and serendipitously found myself having one of the BEST thai meals ever. Quick, courteous service, in a relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful dine in space, though most of their business seemed to be carry out (probably because it was a weeknight). We stopped in here for a quick bite. The lunch special was a great deal and we had the krapow (yummy and spicy) and pad Thai. The Thai ice tea was yummy but did taste like just a mix. We got the taro curry puffs bc the chicken curry puffs were out. The taro curry puffs weren't my favorite -- while they were well made I think the texture of the mushy taro inside wasn't what I expected. Otherwise the place was great! You seat yourself. The drunken noodle I ordered is way too spicy. My stomach feels bleeding the next day. The waiter is not considerate enough to ask about my spiciness preference and it is definitely way too spicy for average American. The service was cold and unbearable. The ambiance is clean though. read more

We stopped here after hiking Piney Branch Trail, In SNP. The Paking lot was empty on Sunday 4:30pm. We walked in. One table was occupied. Place was big really and connected to a hotel. We were seated. Host was also the server. He was pleasant enough. We ordered apps-fish cakes with peanut sauce and spring rolls. They were ok. I will say the Spring rolls were fresh because the crust was flaky. Just when our entree orders were brought out, I saw.... a roach. Crawled right on our table. Not happy. I know those things are everywhere, prob in most restaurants, but I don't want to see them on my table And it was a baby one. I killed it and left it there. I tried my Green Curry and it was ok. I did like that they sliced the bamboo in small strips. The chicken should be cut down more. We only took a couple bites and asked for check. When we paid, I told the guy that A "little friend" visited us at the table.. he kinda looked like he knew what I was saying... can't be sure but we left it on the table so, yeah, he'll see it. The food is very good at more than reasonably price especially lunch specials compared to the city. The lunch specials served with crunchy spring roll and fresh vegetables soup. You will get really spicy if you say spicy which suits my taste. read more

This place has seen much better days. Attached to seedy motel with what appeared as "ladies of the night" sitting around the side parking areas. Maybe rooms available by the hour? The waiter (manager) appeared very surly and unfriendly. Atmosphere inside very Uninviting and dirty. And finally...the food. Not particularly good or bad. This place is great. Very tasty spring rolls or chicken satay for an appetizer. All the curry's are great. Service is prompt. The mistakenly brought us a wrong appetizer one time, came back 30 seconds later, apologized and brought us the correct one asap. read more

Do not get scared off by the location! Thunwa was some of the best Thai food we have ever tasted. The restaurant was clean and the staff was very friendly. My fiancée had the pineapple fried rice which was out of this world. I ordered the crab fried rice which was enjoyable as well. Bonus points for being one of the only restaurants in Front Royal open after nine. read more

The location threw us off years ago as it's in a hotel - has a separate entrance. However... Have been going here for years. For us this has been consistently the best Thai we have ever had. We have noticed the food spicy level can vary as it seems they have different cooks. Not a huge deal for me as I like spicy. When we have had issues with it being too spicy they are always quick to change it out and apologize. read more

Very authentic and delicious. Ordered papaya salad, chicken pad Thai, shrimp Pad Thai, Tom yum soup, and drunken noodle. Drunken noodle is spicy so ask for mild if you can't handle spicy. Stopped by after visiting Shenandoah National Park - about a 10min drive from the Front Royal Entrance. I came with my boyfriend, and we really enjoyed the food overall. Below lists out what we ordered and quick thoughts about them all. - Veggie and soft tofu soup: this was packed with veggies (broccoli, napa cabbage, carrots, green beans), tofu, and topped with fried garlic pieces. A light soup, and nice for the cooking weather. - Tom Ka Gai soup: a little on the sweeter side, but had a little acidity to it as well, which was nice. Good coconut flavor too! - Yum Woon Sen salad (w/o the chicken): nice acidic and spicy taste. I'm all for spice, so I wish it had been a tad more spicy. The cashews also were a huge plus cause they added good flavor. - Pad Kee Mao with pork: spicier than any other version I've had of this, but definitely a good spice! Food aside, the restaurant is connected to a Quality Inn motel, and they share a bathroom, so keep in mind you'll have to go through a hallway into the motel to use it. We went around 3pm and there were still a good number of people dining inside. However, there was only one person working the front - from seating us, taking and delivering our order, and checking us out. Still the service wasn't bad. read more

We had a few recommendations to eat here and after a long hike, we went. It didn't disappoint, the food was way better than I expected. The hot scale seems to be a bit off cause I ordered a 4 outta 5 and felt like it was barely a 2. I ate there with 2 buddies, one of whom is an elite Yelper and the other is a hard core dinner guy. He likes to eat several main courses for dinner. On this occasion the Elite Yelper enjoyed his food, and the Double Entree guy ate an appetizer as 2 dinners with no complaints. Bathrooms are important to me so I did check it out. It was a solid 2 1/2 star bathroom. Toilet paper was not soft and there was nothing to look at but the ceiling and floor. Best part of the whole place was the Cart that they wheel the food out on, I felt like it was a wise move, makes for less of a chance to drop meals. 4 1/2 stars. read more

Pretty good Thai restaurant! The food was good, the portions were large. The location was a little off-putting with the "Park at your own risk sign" and the sketchy hotel it's attached too. However, once inside the food was good! The service was fast and friendly. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai. The chicken came out (on a rolling cart like a buss boy would use), less spicy than ordered, and the chicken was a little over cooked and tougher than it should have been but it was still pretty darn good. I'll go back. That cart that they roll the food out on makes me laugh though. read more

Three and a half stars. Portions are generous enough to share family-style. I'll skip the Thai iced tea next time, too high a dairy ratio for me. The spice levels are legit, I loved the burn anyways. The sliced beef here is slightly better quality than you find at Thai places closer to DC. Duck was tender and equally flavorful, but the batter wasn't very crispy. Rice was a little old for the mango sticky rice compared to my dining companions' last visit with it, but the fruit was perfectly ripe. Only one guy working the front during a light lunch rush, but he was courteous and attentive. Plentiful parking in the Inn parking lot, super affordable lunch specials every day of the week. We'll likely be back when we don't feel like grilling.
