My family and I was craving Indian food today and one of our Indian friends recommended this (new to us) place in Watertown (near/behind the Lexus dealership). It was convenient to get to with plenty of parking up front. Its about 5 minutes from Arsenal Yards. The restaurant looks pretty modern and trendy, with several tables on the side for dining in. I was promptly greeted upon entry with a smile. Picking up my takeout order was easy and quick. Food was packaged well and secure - important for this cuisine as you don't want to lose any of the sauces! The food portions are really good and pricing is pretty reasonable given the times, and pricing of similar restaurants in the area. More importantly, the quality and tastes of the food was exquisite! Good Indian food takes time and care in preparation to ensure the flavors are balanced with properly prepared ingredients. The texture of the meats and veggies were spot-on, with great balance in flavor. It wasn't overbearing and I think their flavors are flexible enough to cater to most palates. The chicken 65 was surprisingly not soggy, given this was take out. The butter chicken was so creamy with generous chicken pieces that were tender but not falling apart. The chicken tikka had great flavors and similarly well prepared chicken pieces. The garlic naan was actually flavorful, and is very evidently crafted onsite vs mass produced. The chicken biriyani was probably the standout dish. It was prepared with fluffy basmati rice with a great blend of spices (and color) and tender chicken pieces. I liked that the onions for some of the dishes were large cut and easily removed, as not everyone in the family likes onions. The only critique for the place is that there were no paper menus for old heads like myself that still prefers to look over it prior to ordering. Luckily, the online ordering experience was simple and straight forward. I created a Toast account in the process and hope it will be even easier going forward. You can even specify the spice level for most dishes. Overall, Chennai Eats is a wonderful addition to the local community. The place is clean, the food is tasty and a family could get full and happy without breaking the bank. I look forward to trying this place again, and exploring some of their other offerings. I'm also glad to have found a closer alternative to quality Indian food, vs going all the way out to Godavari. read more

Idli Sambar (7.5/10): First time having this and it was very good. Texture was great and the three sauces went well with it. Ghee Masala Dosa (7.5/10): Also my first time having dosas, so it's hard for me to judge how good they are relatively. Nonetheless, they were super tasty! I loved the ghee flavor. Texture was great. Masala filling was pretty good, but I think any other filling would have been fine as well. Chicken 65 (9.5/10): FANTASTIC. The chicken was oh so tender while also being fried to perfection. I have not had this kind of fried chicken from an Indian restaurant before. Flavors were also on point with just a hint of spicy. Butter Chicken (9/10): Delicious!! Great balance of flavors. Ordered online from here with my sister and husband last week. Online ordering was easy and they had a great variety of menu items. We ordered all of our go-tos; Saag paneer, butter chicken, plain and garlic naan, vegetable samosas, and onion pakora. Pros: The order was ready when we arrived and their dining room was pretty full! my sister and husband loved the butter chicken (although they said it tasted spicier than mild), the vegetable samosas were perfection, the onion pakora tasted like little onion rings, and the garlic naan was super tasty and fluffy! Cons: the saag paneer wasn't quite medium spicy and unfortunately pretty bland overall, I always get plain naan and this somehow tasted ~extra~ plain. read more

I've been craving some tasty and spicy Indian food for a while and this spot checks all the boxes! It's a cozy, homey spot with large portions so I had many leftovers after! The channa masala was earthy and spicy! Paired with garlic naan so well. The chicken Manchurian is something I haven't seen on a menu before, but I had to order because I was so curious. I have visited this place a few times. I am fan of the service, the ambiance, and the food. This restaurant focuses on South Indian style food, which differs markedly from North Indian style food. Their dosas are actually quite good. I have had their masala dosa and spring dosa. I liked their sauces too. The spring dosa is different from the potato-based masala dosa in the sense that it has vegetables in it that you'd typically expect in a spring roll. I liked their chicken manchurian too. This is an Indo-Chinese dish and it had the same flavors that you will find in the streets of India: saucy, spicy, crispy, all with a good dousing of soy sauce. I wasn't a fan of chicken kothu parotta because I prefer the parotta on the side and not mixed in with the gravy. This again isn't your typical parotta but rather the laccha-style of parotta that is prevalent in South India. The multiple layers in the parotta make it crispier and allow it to take on more gravy. The curries themselves are very flavorful and spicy with Andhra style being my clear favorite. Andhra Pradesh is a state in the south of India well known for its spicy food. A new South Indian restaurant has opened in Watertown, MA! What an incredible addition to the neighborhood. Coming from NY, where we are lucky to have an abundance of Indian Restaurants, I was truly impressed with this small restaurant. Expect a wait for a table on weekends. They can probably seat around 30 ppl max. Chennai Eats has a wide range of dishes on their menu. Menu items range from Dosas, Parotas, Biryanis, Indo-Chinese dishes, Breads, Meat and Vegetable dishes. It's a pretty large menu for a small fast-casual restaurant. (Seey photo for full menu). My party of 6 shared an enormous amount of food. Yup, the eyes are bigger than our stomaches and we over ordered. But absolutely no complaints! We got to try a variety of items and enjoyed the leftovers! We tried 3 lamb dishes, a goat dish, 3 different Dosas (which were fantastic!) , two chicken dishes, garlic Naan, and a few other dishes. I must say, everything was great except one dish: Onion Pakora appetizer. Our server told us that one order wasn't enough for 6 ppl to share, so we ordered two portions. (One order was enough!) This was my least fave dish of the night. I could barely taste any onion. But everything else was great. Customer service was friendly and efficient. But don't be surprised if you get a little rushed at the end of your meal if there is a line of ppl waiting for a table. Like I mentioned before, this is a small restaurant with limited seating. This place is very affordable and the quality of food is great. Service was also very fast! Between our group, we had the butter chicken, a masala dosa, ghee dosa, and paneer dosa. We also got a Chicken 65 appetizer to share, which was so tender, juicy, and delicious. Everything was so delicious! The dosas were MASSIVE with a hearty amount of filling. My husband said the paneer dosa was like a crispy grilled cheese but elevated. The butter chicken was very creamy and a huge portion. I also got a masala chai for the first time. A recent addition to Watertown, this establishment has quickly become a popular spot among locals seeking Indian cuisine. With limited tables in a small dining area, the wait to be seated has been quite long during peak dining hours. Not to mention, the food also took a little bit longer than usual with the continuous take out and delivery orders streaming out the door. All of these were expected of a place that has gained popularity so quickly. So what is it about them that stood out? Was it the clean and well designed interior? Was it their friendly family-style mannerisms when serving customers? Or was it their take on their regional cuisine and the quality of their food? Honestly, it's been a while I've said this about a small family run restaurant: "all of the above!" If anything they served were reheats, they did it perfectly. If they were made same day and kept on hot-hold, they also did it perfectly. Nothing served that evening "sat". Nothing was overdone by the time it arrived at the table. Everything tasted fresh. Everything tasted good. On top of that, they served the best Saag I've tasted in a decade. It was so good that I still think about it a few days later. Just can't wait to be back again. I love the food. I've had several different dishes here, including desserts, and each one has been delicious! I've even tried their Masala Chai, Madras Coffee, and Mango Lassi drinks. My new favorite dish is Paneer Butter Masala! Personally, I go mild spice on everything. My daughter gets the extra spicy, which she loves, but be careful because it's really [spicy] hot! The people are SO nice and welcoming. The place is small, but if I've had to wait for a table, it hasn't been long. 5.00 bright red Yelp stars for Chennai Eats. I'll just say what sounds like insane hyperbole - this is the best South Indian food I have found thus far in the United States. In fact, this is better than quite a few places I have been to in South India and by quite the margin at that. What is it that makes Chennai Eats incredible? Well, the podi idli that I ordered tasted like an upgrade from traditional idli. The idli was both thicker than what I usually order and had a far more pleasing soft texture. I am not sure how they make them, but it's definitely an improvement from the ones that I usually get which are a bit too thin, wet, and grainy for my liking. On top of that, the flavors matching the idli were unparalleled. Copious amounts of spice and curry leaves brought forth an absolutely mesmerizing experience that I generally do not get from this rather standard South Indian dish. The podi idli wasn't the best item I ordered. The parrota (paratha) bread that I ordered was buttery and just slightly chewy just like I like it. The chicken curry that accompanied the bread was great in its own right. The chicken pieces themselves were softer than what I generally find in stateside Indian curries, and I am fairly sure they used chicken stomach and other non-breast portions that tasted great in their traditional South Indian curry. I can't believe I didn't order masala dosa, but if ever come back, I will do so along with one of their goat options. If you live in the Boston area and have any appreciation for South Indian cuisine, I would go here as soon as possible. It doesn't surprise me in the slightest that they are already busy, and I suspect that will only become more prevalent as word gets out about this place. read more

We love Indian Food because we used to live in Central NJ and in our little town there were many Indian families and because of this we have had lots of delicious homemade food. One of our favorites is Vindaloo. At Chennai they let you choose the spice level and it is cooked with tender pieces of chicken and the sauce is just the right amount số you can pour it over the rice that accompanies the dish. We haven't had vindaloo this good since we ate it at our friend's house. As for the curries, tikka masala, and the garlic naan breads - they are also very well cooked and tasted freshly made. We really enjoyed all of the spices and flavors that each dish delivered. As for the ambiance, everyone made us feel like home. They are clean, friendly, nice and happy people!! If you want Indian food this is the place to go that will hit all your cravings!! I will plan to try the idlis next time!! Can't wait!! I have never appreciated all the people that it takes to bring the food for me to enjoy at restaurants. Amazing south Indian food! Just reminds me of street style parotta with chicken salna and chicken kothu parotta. Kuzhi paniyaram and chutney just made me travel back home. Fantastic food! We a variety of items, most of which I've never had before, and everything was delicious! The chikoo milk shake was outstanding, not too sweet; the appetizers (crispy chicken and small crunchy disks that I don't know the name of) were fantastic. The dosa was beautiful and the potato and sauces that went with it delicious. We had 2 biryanis: chicken biryani and Thalappakati goat biryani. Both were amazing, but I especially enjoyed the Thalappakati biryani; the small-grained rice was unusual and special. Small place with a few tables, clean and well maintained family place. There was a certain warmth in the treatment presented by the host, that makes one feel like a guest as opposed to just another customer in the queue, suited perfectly for our Saturday lunch. We tried several things, some that are common, like dosas, and some that are rare to find elsewhere, like Kothu paratha, and one that we tried for the first time, like the Thalappakati Goat Biryani. Each item was exquisite. The dosa was perfect, fresh, nothing over done, not a drop of extra oil, even the sides, sambhar and chutneys were perfect. The show stopper though was the Thalappakati Goat Biryani. It is made of broken rice, with perfect balance of flavor and spices. Every bite was a combination of excitement and comfort. The meat was tender (getting goat right is indeed a challenge) and falling off the bone. Overall, 5 stars, looking forward to going back. read more

If you want to eat store bought frozen bulk Naan, heated and served to you, go there. This is a shame that they are not serving fresh food Better save money and eat at home or go somewhere where they serve fresh food. read more
