Best Chinese food I've had in years! Just moved to Franklinton last year and decided to give Chen's Kitchen a try instead of making the drive into WF. Our usual order is sweet and sour soup, pork fried rice, egg rolls and wonton soup. My husband says that the mark of a good Chinese restaurant is if they put pork in the wonton soup and lo and behold, there's a piece of pork in the soup! Will definitely be back! read more

A restaurant doesn't need French speaking chefs or a head chef who throws temper tantrums. Chen's kitchen is proof that even a small business can produce excellent food across the far eastern spectrum. Service is also great. No matter how busy it may get. If the ambiance were to improve then I'd give 6 stars for sure. Chen 's Hot Sour Soup and any form of hot & spicy beef are my personal favorites. read more

Food is terrible, especially considering the high prices. The sesame chicken was just General Tso chicken with sesame seeds sprinkled on top, fried rice is not fried at all, just yellow rice with some onions. Surprised they're able to stay in business. While the food is good and average for a Chinese restaurant, the ambiance is lacking any substance and leaves you feeling like the place is abandoned even if the place is full of people. Service is quick, though it isn't kind. Just enough to get you your food and send you on out. Sometimes they do take quite a bit of time, but only if they're busy. read more

Everything we had was good and fresh..,vegetable mai fun was fresh and had a nice touch of garlic, hibachi shrimp was exactly what I was looking for with grilled shrimp and vegetables with no sauce, and fried chicken wings. I have had take-out from Chen's in Franklinton somewhat frequently and always thought the food was worthy of 3-4 stars. However, something has changed. Last weekend, the same hard-working staff was present, but most of my order was not worth the $30 I paid for it. The Mongolian beef was good, but the fried noodles and the fortune cookies were stale and inedible. The egg roll and the crab rangoon were left in the fryer too long, and the egg foo young (which took 50 minutes to prepare) was burnt. The up-front person, who has been typically friendly, was down-right surly and rude ("I told you your order would be ready in 30 minutes! It hasn't been 30 minutes." ((It had been 30 minutes since I phoned in my order, and I waited 20 more minutes before I was handed my order)); no "Thank you" when I paid for or picked up my order). For a small town Chinese food place, I really enjoy Chen's. I'm always greeted by the same worker on the phone and in person and she is always nice. The food stays consistent. I'm pretty basic with my order, plain lo mein (always has good flavor) broccoli in garlic sauce(always yummy, I've been to plenty of other Chinese takeout spots where they mess up and have no flavor, but Chen's always tastes good), eggroll. And I also order hotsour soup.... And it's the best in our area. So many ingredients and FLAVOR! Ive had it from about 3 other Chinese food places in the area and the others are light broth and taste like dirty water. Chen's hot sour soup is darker with a lot of toppings. Just walked out. Not the same. Wallpaper is peeling off the walls all over. Sign for food ordering is missing panels.water marks on ceiling. Ordered food and she was yelling at my wife on the phone, and almost cut off her order and hung up on her before we even finished ordering. Was quoted 10 minutes. Walked in at 12 and stood there for 5-10 (20 minutes total). Not sure about all the negative reviews here. I come to North Raleigh for work for a week every year and I eat at this place 2 or 3 times. The food is always fresh and tasty with the typical variety of Chinese offerings. It's reasonably priced and the owners are always friendly. The only downside to me is the appearance but it's a hole in the wall place so I don't care. The food is good for take out...that's all that matters. read more

This is the very first Chinese restaurant I had ever went to. I went there when i was 13, 7 years ago and had the sesame chicken. I LOVED IT!Since then I have gone there and the food remains delicious! Although I have seen cleaning products stored over cooked food in metal bowls. RECOMMEND THE GENERAL TSOS! We ordered takeout on Friday night and it was awful! Egg rolls were chewy and soggy. The sesame chicken has a strange taste and was overcooked and chewy. It was some of the worst I have EVER had! My husband had fried dumplings and he stated they also had a strange flavor. We did notice they had a sanitation rating of 92! The restaurant is beyond dated, it is just plain dirty (wallpaper peeling off the walls, grease stains on the walls and ceiling, dusty, etc) and needs a total tear out and makeover! Oh man. We tried the broccoli chicken. We ordered white rice. We got it home and they had given us fried rice that was bright yellow and so bland it tasted like white rice. The food was AWFUL! I gave them one star because the broccoli was actually not overcooked. Unfortunately, there was about 85% broccoli to 15% chicken and it was coated in greasy "sauce". read more

I have gotten takeout from here several times. The food has always been made to order and taste find. To me, it is your typical Chinese restaurant. This is the first time in years on coming that I can say I am disappointed. I don't mind that prices went up, butbwhen portion and quality decrease that's a different story. I measured out the noodles in the dinner meal that extra charge was 1.95. The noodles were 1.95. The condition of the restaurant was awful, you can see they put no money back into it. Everything from the burnt light bulbs to the buckling floors that are separating. The person answering phones and taking money also drops food into the fryer. Without washing her hands in between. She would take money, go back to the freezer barehanded get product and drop it in fryer. I left after I got my money back, no food. There are far too many choices now then to order from here again. If the front of the restaurant looks like that, I would hate to see what we cannot. I will never go back here again. I would think twice if you were going to order from here, you might be taking putting your life at risk. If lucky, this store is a C no way an A. Food safety these days is life and death and needs to be taken more seriously and maintained, not just when a Health Inspector walks through the door, but everyday. I challenge other people with knowledge of restaurant cleanliness to judge for yourselves, you won't be eating there either. This place needs a massive overhaul. read more
