I had been there before and wanted to give this place a second chance. We had 2 staff assist us. We were seated quickly and then offered hot tea, which was very weak. I almost felt like asking for a tea bag to give the hot tea some flavor. We ordered an appetizer, a soup for two and an entree. Normally you get the appetizer and soup first. We were surprised to see we got all three things at the same time. The egg roll was good, and a nice portion. I liked how we each has a small appetizer plate with some duck sauce. The soup however was for two. We asked for another small bowl and we got a look that made us appear crazy. The bowl was huge! One person was not able to consume this. The presentation of the house soup was nice. It had plenty of vegetables and meats (chicken, pork and shrimp). It unfortunately lacked flavor. I am not sure what it was missing but it did to taste as good as other house special soups I have had at other Chinese restaurants. As we are eating the appetizer and soup, I am watching my noodle dish get cold. I had to also get up and ask for two smaller dishes to serve. Usually Chinese entrees are shared. The dishes we received were cold. Now put my cold noodle dish on top of this was even more frustrating. From start to finish, no staff approached us to inquire how our meal was going. All I observed was staff (3) playing on their phones. I should have known when we walked in and they had only a few customers. That was a sign I should have gone somewhere else. Unfortunately we did not like any of the food we got from Asian Garden. I was also surprised at how expensive the sushi is here, even for top quality sushi the price would have been a bit excessive, but what we got was almost insulting at this price. We ordered two orange chicken combos which came with yellow rice that seemed to just be Minute Rice with yellow food coloring. Absolutely no flavor whatsoever. They called this fried rice which is kind of horrifying, considering that is a staple for Chinese restaurants... it also came with a little egg roll which I did not try. The orange chicken was soggy and gloppy, but I did get a hint of real orange zest in the sauce which was surprising and pleasant. The wonton soup is a hard pass. It's a bowl of flavorless greasy liquid with several awful excuses for "wontons" floating around. They take store-bought wonton wrappers and stick a ball of some sort of meat filling inside and then fold them. They are thick, floppy and flavorless. Or maybe they buy them pre-made like this, which would be even more distressing to find out...I'm not necessarily expecting them to make homemade wonton dough, but they'd be better off buying (authentic) premade wontons than doing this. I imagine this is the cheapest method; it certainly tastes that way. The California Roll sushi was the worst I've ever had. The cucumber inside had gone bad, so it was clear, slimy and bitter. The avocado was mostly brown. The rolls fell apart as soon as they were touched. Each piece contained a peanut-sized lump of surimi imitation "crab". Again, I don't expect fresh crab, but canned would be great OR, if they're going to use surimi, they could at least shred it up. For a tiny 6-piece roll it was $10. These should be $5-$6, even if they were better quality. The chicken teriyaki skewers were the best thing we had. Two people in my group wanted chicken teriyaki and rice, so I was bummed to see that Asian Garden doesn't offer that. I ordered the appetizer skewers as a compromise. Asian Garden should offer these as a dinner plate with (white/brown) rice and vegetables, we would return for that. Asian Garden offers so many different types of Asian Food, that perhaps there's a region they do correctly, but it definitely is not Chinese or Japanese. read more

In the mood for table service Chinese instead of take out, we stopped in at Asian Garden on Friday night. This storefront restaurant has about a dozen tables and booths, a sushi bar at the rear, a couple of tvs on the walls and a big fish tank along the wall. (Always seems ironic to me to have a fish tank next to a sushi bar). We were seated quickly, and order taken promptly. The food was delicious. But the service was disjointed. As appetizers we ordered steamed dumplings and fried dumplings, and spring rolls. Steamed dumplings were perfect, stuffed full of savory pork, with traditional garlic sauce for dipping. The fried dumplings could have been fried a little crispier, but were equally good. The spring rolls were piping hot and generously stuffed with vegetables. Amy tried the hibachi style chicken and shrimp. This was a generous portion of protein, nicely spiced and served with a scoop of sticky white rice with mustard sauce for dipping. I had the Singapore Mei Fun, which is thin noodles stir fried with pork, chicken and shrimp in a yellow curry-based sauce. This entree was perfect, not swimming in sauce and the noodles perfectly prepared. Our friend tried the sushi. With a special running, she tried 3 rolls. The rolls are perfectly sized in bite sized pieces, rolled to order. The fish was fresh and the portions right sized. Good! This place does a lot of take out business, but their eat-in service is not well executed. Appetizers were served without plates. Entrees were served 2 minutes after the apps. And one appetizer showed up halfway thru the meal. And there was confusion to split the total check in half. I recommend Asian Garden for the food. Honestly I drove here from Raleigh about 20 miles based on a recommendation and thought wow maybe at last some good Chinese food in the area at last - well not only is it not good it was TERRIBLE UNEDIBLE literally threw the entire bag in the garbage!! The sesame chicken was all batter no meat the rice was so hard the lo mein overcooked to mush even the egg rolls which were skinnier like spring rolls & were practical empty and dried out which left a missing bag of noodles I requested it THANKFULLY didn't get. We live about 15 minutes from Asian Garden. My husband likes it so much I get tired of it at times. When you walk in you are told to choose your own seat. With in about 2 minutes you are greeted with your menus and they take your drink order. They are very quick about everything they do. Even the young staff are very attentive. You get your food piping hot served on a beautifully shaped Asian plate. Always good presentation. The restaurant is not big, so if you just make eye contact they are there to help you. We kept up our yearly tradition of eating Chinese food on Christmas and we took a chance with a new place - so glad that we did! We ordered a lot of food - $108 worth, a good variety of items and proteins and they were all delicious! Sesame chicken was very good, sweet and sour shrimp was prepared differently than usual (less tempura and more like a skewer) but was delicious. The beef and broccoli was very good, chicken fried rice cooked perfectly, crab rangoons were some of the best we've ever had! My wife birthday was a couple of weeks ago so we ordered a lot of take out food. It's been a while since I was here but I remembered that the food was good. Didn't write a review then though. The menu offers Chinese, sushi and even some Thai food !! We ordered around 11am on a Sunday and within 30 minutes everything was ready for pick up. We ordered different types of noodles ( the Singaporean was my favorite ), also the yellow curry , house fried rice , orange chicken, beef with onions and shrimp with lobster sauce. Everything was really tasty and very flavorful ! All my guests were very satisfied and the portions were large !! Everyone had seconds. The only reason why I don't give them 5 stars is because the shrimp with lobster sauce looked like a soup, the sauce needed to be thicker so it didn't look so appealing ( flavor was good though ). I will definitely try it again. I can't believe I didn't take any pics though !! I guess I was too hungry that couldn't wait for the pics. read more

This is the second time I've had an issue with this restaurant. Ordered sweet-and-sour pork and they did not give me the sweet-and-sour sauce. I get all the way home and called them back. We've been to Asian Garden twice now. The first time we went we were nervous about how the service was going to pan out, after we'd read the reviews. We were pleasantly surprised when we were greeted promptly, seated promptly, given drinks promptly, checked up on promptly, but then - the ocd - can I get you another drink started in. The real issue was there was more than one person waiting on our table and more than one person constantly asking (after we'd had one sip of Diet Coke) if we needed more drink. I believe all in all we were asked this question (for a table of 4) over 25 times. Just too much! However, now that I have that off my chest, we thought the food was pretty decent. Ratings to follow: Crab Rangoon - Fantastically wonderfully delicious. Crispy, crunchy, hot like lava! Tuna Roll - Mushy flavorless mash. No thanks! Chicken Satay - Char grilled, flavorful, delicious peanut sauce! Dragon & Phoenix - Standard Chinese food from a take out place. Nothing too spectacular, but a good value for $12. Portion was large and taste was fine. Chicken with Broccoli - Good dish with freshly cooked broccoli that still had a nice crunch to it. Sauce was good and not over powering. We got the spicy girl roll and the tuna roll after we ate the edamame and the super fabulous crab rangoo!!!!! I was really hoping from the reviews that we would have a good experience here (especially as it's close to home). That was not the case, at all. When we arrived, we were the only customers in the restaurant. It was around 6:45/7:00pm. We stood at the front desk for a minute or two before being greeted (by the two employees standing at the desk) and asked if we could sit down to eat in. One of the employees said sure and walked us to a booth. Just as we were seated, the employee asked us what we wanted to drink and we ordered waters. She quickly brought us back waters and asked if we were ready to order our food. It was very hard to understand her and we did our best to make out all that she was saying. We both ordered hibachi, which came with soup and a salad per the menu. She then asked what soup we wanted. Since the soups weren't listed on the menu, we asked her what our options were. She mumbled something really fast and we couldn't understand. When we apologized and asked her to repeat it, she walked away and went back to the front desk to help a man who just walked in for a to-go order. After she had helped him, she started cleaning the tables around us. We were SO confused. It took about 10 minutes for her to come back and finish taking our order. While we waited for our food, she and the other employee started bickering continuously the entire time we were there - arguing and making faces. It was so uncomfortable and so unprofessional. Another man walked in while we were waiting and the one employee acknowledged him and then went into the back to ask the other employee a question. Perhaps it was if she could take a break? Assuming she was told no, she came out flailing her hands saying "she said it's too early...watch me...", grabbed her bag, and walked out of the door with the man. By that point, we couldn't believe what was happening and just wanted our food so we could go. Finally, our food came out. The service was actually pretty fast (reason for the two stars); however, it is likely due to how slow they were. The food itself was meh. Definitely not the hibachi I'm used to and there wasn't much flavor to it. We wound up ordering wonton soup and that wasn't very good either. We never received salads; so, I'm not sure if that was a typo on the menu... Once we paid our bill and headed out, the employee who had stormed out was sitting in a car with the man, door open - laughing, yelling, and running around outside of the business. So unprofessional. I'm really bummed that this was the experience we had. I don't think we'll be visiting again anytime soon (which is a shame due to it being so close). read more

Our somewhat large party of 4 generations was greeted promptly and given the utmost respect and great service despite our misgivings. No we weren't rude, but boy did some of my party make a mess (spills and thrills). Staff was over quickly to clean up and replace drinks and still treated us very well. Plates were cleared quickly as meals were finished, and refills on fountain drinks and waters were prompt and plentiful. To sum it up, service was stellar! The hot/sour soup was good, not anything to write home about, but about what I would expect at any Americanized Chinese take out place. The crab rangoons were nicely stuffed and went over well at the table with one comment about them being a bit oily - expected, though because it's deep fried. Again, met expectations but did not exceed. The sushi was also good, but again, nothing to write home about. I've had better sushi in and around the area, but again, this wasn't bad. I was a little surprised that the spicy tuna roll was a bit crispy on one side. Average food, excellent service! read more

The food is good but not great. The sushi chief is only there about 1 out of 5 times we have been there. The wait staff usually are usually rude and short with the customers. If you ask for something, you will usually have to ask 3 or 4 more times before you get what you asked for. The dishes were good size portions but I don't understand the fried rice. I've never seen it yellow as if it's cooked in broth rather than soy sauce. That completely changes the taste. Not quite what we were looking for and not what we are used to. The vegetable lomein was ok. A tad spicy. The soup and chicken dishes were average as well.
