I just got my computer fixed there this past week and promised the Jeff, the owner, that I'd write a review for him because I was so satisfied with the job well done. I live in Kailua, and its rare to find a good and affordable computer repair store here. My computer crashed late at night while I was working on my graduate thesis paper. I was ridiculously devasted to a point where I was about to thrown my computer out the window then run over with my car just to back up on it and run it over AGAIN. The next morning I asked around a couple of friends about salvaging my computer for a cheap price. Some said geek squad could but the price and the wait was just ridiculous. Then one of my friend from KAilua recommended Chen's Store. I went down there and Jeff fixed my computer in less than a day! He didn't try to impress me with fancy computer geek words or scoff when I didn't understand some computer terms. Long story short, my computer was restored with all the programs AND my thesis and the rest of my files were all burned on to a CD! It was great. Today I took my MacBook in to Chen's store because I thought my laptop had a problem. I explained my problem to his wife, paid my $35 for diagnostic service and then Mr. Chen came out. Showed him what my problem was and he told me it should be ready in about an hour and it would be about $50. Sure enough he called me within the hour and said my computer was ready and there was no charge!!! When I got there he told me there was no problem with the computer but because of the recent update by Apple it changed my usual upload on startup which I thought was the problem. But he did not stop there he said my cover was loose and he tightened it, explained why my laptop was slow, told me how to clean my power outlet and power cord and how to work my external hard drive. Wow that is what I call great customer service!! I asked him if it was time for a new computer. He said not yet because my computer was still good for my use. Before I went to Mr. Chen's store I checked the reviews and because of the great reviews I decided to take my chance and was sure glad I did! I HIGHLY recommend Chen's computers in Kailua. I live in Kaaawa on Oahu. I had a Acer laptop problem this week and found the Chen's store at this online site. I called and was told that someone was available that afternoon to look at my computer. When I arrived Jeffrey Chen took a look and decided that a diagnostic was not needed (only $35) and he told me the problem and the part I could buy and refunded me the diagnostic fee. I was VERY appreciative of his honesty and service. His wife Peggy was so sweet behind the counter who handed me my refund. And his son Steve was very helpful also, in answering my questions over the phone (he was my first point of contact when I called). I couldn't say nicer things about this entire family. And Jeffrey and Steve knew exactly what I was talking about and were very honest about the prossible problems. Today I visited Chen's Computer store in Kailua because the keyboard on my Mac wasn't working. This was of course the worst thing thing that could happen since id planned to do a lot of work today from my laptop. I phoned in the morning and he invited me to bring it in for a free diagnosis. He greeted me warmly. He brought out an external keyboard and sat with me while we tested it out. It worked! He explained that the simplest and cheapest repair would be an external keyboard but that if I wanted to repair the computer keyboard I could do so. He patiently answered my other questions regarding laptops and he made suggestions for a good printer. Mr. Chen was very patient and helpful. The store also handles e-waste* for free which is a very nice service. *Just double check with the owner for specfic items. I would return in the future to Mr. Chen for repair work and services. On memorial day, I was just completing my homework for my graduate degree at UH Manoa when I spilled an entire cup of iced coffee on my laptop. My homework was due the next day. Not only were they open, they answered their phone right away. I brought my laptop in and although my computer was completely destroyed, they were able to get all of my data off of my hard drive. I was able to hand my homework in on time without redoing it AND they were able to save all of my tax information. I was clearly distraught when I arrived and they were able to get all of the data off of my computer within a few hours. At first they told me it could take up to 5 hours, but when I explained the situation they were incredibly helpful. My computer broke down on me the other week, and I heard about this place from a friend. This little known gem of a computer store, this "diamond-in-the-rough" so to speak, is one of the best things about Kailua. The owner is extremely friendly, and they were able to fix my computer in less than a day. The atmosphere of this place is very down-to-earth, definitely not like those big computer joints like Best Buy that are just out to make a buck off of you. It's very personal. In addition to computer repair, they also sell an assortment of snacks, and let me tell you: whoever says that 7-11 has the best spam musubis on the island, is full of poppycock. THIS place is the real deal. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone with any computer problems, big or small, or anyone looking for a quick bite to eat. read more

I have a rather high-end computer with an RTX 4090 graphics card and was doing some tweaking beyond my ability in the Bios. I ended up causing the computer to no longer boot up and was advised to remove the battery to restore the Bios to factory. In doing that I damaged the slot for the graphics card and dead in the water. I Called mr Chen on Sunday, he came into his store within a few minutes and agreed to look at it. He said he would advise me in the couple hours what he thought might be going on. I expected the worst but was happily surprised by his call about 2 hours later where he says he fixed the computer and all was fine. He only charged me the diagnostic fee with no additional charges. I've depended on Chen's service for years. I lost rack of his shop when he moved out of Kailua. Thankfully I found him again and recently bought a new monitor from him which lead me back to his store since my computer wouldn't pick up a signal for it. Before he would let me buy a new monitor, he insisted on testing my old one, at no charge. How many retailers do you know of that go to that length to be honest. He took the time to show me everything that went wrong with my computer, advise me on what to do in the future to prevent any other problems, and helped me to install a security system as well as walked me through other processes that I could use. This is my first time writing a review, so you know I am a happy about his service and wanted to share the experience. I brought my laptop in, and in a couple of hours he diagnosed the problem. Went over and above to tell me what's wrong, how it happened, and how to prevent from happening again. He restored all my documents and pictures. Explained to me how to reinstall the Quickbook program for our company. Fast, efficient service. We are small business owners as well, and every chance we get, we like to support other small businesses rather than the big name logo companies. I got scammed in May by a computer tech company. I took my computer to Mr. Chen who rebooted my computer, and installed Windows 10 because I had Windows 7, and other programs. I was very fortunate that I found Mr. Chen since I couldn't locate my former computer company. The scammers could see when I was using my computer which was very scary as they could hack my bank accounts. He explained everything as to what the scammers did and not to install anything that pops up the screen. These guys are great. Def go to them for all your needs. I work nights and messaged him on yelp at four in the morning and got a reply at 0700. He's not even open but he's up checking in and letting me know that he can help me whenever I'm available. Not only that, but he also gave me two quick fixes that I could try myself before deciding that my laptop keyboard needed replacement. He quoted me the price on replacement parts and how long delivery would take and he did it all for free. I have taken my computer to Chen's twice and have had prompt service in a friendly and personalized environment. Recently I sent my girlfriend there for a problem she was having with her computer not booting up. When she returned home she told me Mr. Chen opened the back cover and showed her a common problem with a plug in that wriggles loose on her brand of computer. She offered to pay him, but he refused. The prospects for my damaged PC were gloomy. But I figured I'd give it a try, not expecting a decent or reasonably priced outcome. Chen's computer repair was close by, and had good reviews on social media. Parking in front of the store was no problem, so I didn't have to carry my PC very far in the rain. There was a nominal diagnostic fee, and two hours later I got a call that the PC was fixed. I was shocked at the fast turn-around time and very reasonable cost of repair. It's convenient to have a shop in Kailua which handles computers with fast and expert service. My laptop battery died and could only be replaced by taking off the back of the laptop. I took it to the store in Honolulu where I purchased it, and they said I had to leave it for 24 hours. I found Chen's on Google, called, took in my laptop, and had it back within a half hour. Mr. Chen went the second mile and checked the charging post to see that it was operating correctly. He kindly explained everything he was doing. read more

Chen's Store Computer Center, right next to the Bike Shop in Kailua, just fixed the display on our family computer. I purchased a new monitor when the display became difficult to read. I should have gone to Chen's first! For a $35 diagnostic fee, Mr Chen found the problem, called me for permission to repair it and even deducted the diagnostic fee from the labor charge. I had a problem with my computer connecting to my printer. Mr. Chen knew exactly what to do and fixed it within an hour. I have been to Chen's Computer repair many times. Last time it was for a virus on my laptop and he took that off for me. He is very helpful and explains things very well so I hopefully can avoid another problem.
