My gawd, this was the most authentic KFC (Korean fried chicken) we had in more than a year! Our first visit was a knockout from start to finish. Staff was friendly and the ambience, dominated by the scent of cooking oil and fried chicken, immediately got us in the mood to devour the whole chicken with mild sweet and spicy sauce. Cheogajip used to be one of my favorite chicken places in the DMV area when they had their original first location in Annandale. I always thought their sauce and the chicken breading reminded me of the old-school Korean fried chicken you get in Korea. Once Annandale location randomly closed its doors, I was deprived of it and was too lazy to drive all the way to Centreville to get the fried chicken and opted for other chicken options. My husband and I were in the area one weekend and decided to fulfill our Cheogajp craving. We were one of the two tables on a Saturday afternoon and ordered fried chicken with OG sauce on the side...as well as ddukbokggi and French fries. There's a benefit of eating chicken at the restaurant rather than taking them to-go since you can really eat the pipping hot, crispy chicken on the spot. The chicken was pretty good but was disappointed with the OG sauce as it had a weird aftertaste that was different from the other times. And the ddukbokggi was a big let down as I felt that the frozen ddukbokggi you can get at H-Mart tastes better than what I got here. And of course, the fries tasted like any normal fries--nothing special. Overall, I'm not sure if I'd go out of my way to grab chicken at Cheogajip as it just didn't fulfill my satisfaction...really miss the OG Annandale location! Side Note: 1. There are plenty of parking as it's in a shopping plaza with IHOP and H-Mart as neighbors. 2. You can dine at the restaurant but limited seating with about 5-6 tables total. 3. If you're sensitive about the smell getting on your clothes like me, you'll definitely reek with fried food smell after dining at the restaurant. So be prepared, lol. 4. There are no other meal-type foods other than ddukbokggi and other fried-related foods, which was somewhat of a disappointment. Fried gizzards were good. We had 1/2 chicken with supreme style. It was not spicy and not too sweety or spicy. Chicken hit the spot. The hostess/waitress seemed rather tired and not too friendly. Served our food and left and we never saw her again. She didn't even bring us the bill, refill our waters, etc. It's a bit of a divy place and but seems to have regulars and a steady flow to go orders. I missed having kpop or kdramas playing in the background. lol Do not come here expecting good service. I would order carry out next time. read more

Found this hidden gem in the sea of delicious Korean cuisine in Centreville. This feels like a mom and pop shop that serves up delicious fried chicken and then sum. Unfortunately, they were out of alot of menu items when we visited (which could be a good sign that the food is actually really good and in demand) so this review is for the items that we were able to try which was the classic fried chicken wings and onion rings. Both were freshly prepared and fried perfectly. The original fried chicken breading was seasoned well and was steaming when it was served to us. The onion rings came in a generous portion so definitely plan to share. We were curious about the chicken gizzards but they were out so we will have to make another trip to try them. The service was really great and fast! The staff was very friendly and welcoming which made the experience that much better. Craving chicken to eat while watching football, we placed an order for delivery. I like spicy food and ordered the spicy chicken and we also got an order of their plain chicken. We had two sides of fries and mozzarella sticks. Oh my gosh when I read that the spicy chicken was really spicy, I definitely thought it might be an understatement. I was wrong lol. What to do when you love spicy and can't eat extremely spicy? Drink a glass of milk LOL. I am not kidding, the spicy was extremely spicy. Very good though. The plain chicken was also great. Cheogajip (chug-a-chick(en) in my etymology style. While Korean fried chicken is found abundantly amongst the Centreville scene, this particular location was recommended by my coworker. Plus a Korean friend of mine at a gathering raved about this spot; who doesn't like fried chicken!? I did an order of the whole chicken; comes in 19-20 pieces which is enough to feed a large group. Chicken is moist and has a nice golden fried texture to it. Plus you can use the sauce on the side for dipping. It'll definitely make you a popular one at parties and gatherings if you do this! It's best to call ahead for your order as it takes about 15-20 minute wait for them to prepare your order. The inside has dining tables and TVs playing Korean soap operas which can be intriguing. Although it's hard to read the subtitles, the acting and dramatics can be captivating in holding your attention while you wait for your food and sip your beer. That just makes the anticipating more exciting as I jumped up with excitement when they called my number and was satisfied by the wonderful smell from the bag! I had a pleasant experience. The older asian woman at the counter was able to answer my question about portion sizes. The Half size is 8 pieces and whole is 16 pieces. You can order half & half for seasoning. I ordered a whole size of Sweet and Mild chicken to go with a side of fries. for $5 the fries were a bit pricey but i found them delicious. It was also really satisfying to see she had overfilled my to-go container for fries, stuffing them full, requiring a rubber band to secure it closed. I found the chicken to be tender and delicious, almost falling off the bone. I normally find Bonchon mediocre but now it really wouldn't stand a chance in comparison. My mother found the sweet sauce on the chicken too sweet, but I thought it was very tasty. I think she's more sensitive to sweet food, however, whereas I am not. Next time I will get half & half flavors if I plan on sharing with my parents. Overall I enjoyed my experience and I will be back for sure :) read more

In the midst of post Covid era and highly inflated market, I understand every business is trying hard to keep their business but being dishonest and deceitful is definitely NOT a long term solution. The service of this place was fast and smooth. The manager and employees were very enthusiastic and welcoming towards the customers that came in. It's a great place to hangout, as the ambient feel of the nostalgic past of classic Korean culture brings back memories of what it used to feel like dining with couple of friends eating fried chicken for lunch. Ordered a fried popcorn chicken, Tteokbokki and SeDduck SeDduck, the presentation came out just like they represented in the photos and was very delicious and exquisite with a popping spicy tangy taste! It was a fun place to be and you will definitely make some good conversations and relationships with the employees and your friends while visiting this place. This was a take out order for us since we live about 45 minutes away. The last time we had Korean fried chicken was at the (then) newly opened Bon Chon in Leesburg a few years back. It was a hot mess and we never returned. Today, we were shopping at the Asian grocery store next door and decided to give this chicken a try. The girl at the counter was friendly, although a bit impersonal. We ordered half plain and half soy-garlic chicken and both were phenomenal! The sauce was sweet and savory and oh, so good. If it was in a cup, I'd probably drink it. And the chicken was the right amount of spice and not greasy, even after the long drive home. However, the reason for the average review is because the quantity of chicken that came with the order was minuscule, literally. They were not whole pieces of chicken rather medium sizes that had been cut in half with very little meat. We found ourselves questioning why we had paid so much for so little. As good as the food was, it was not worth the price. Also, we paid $1.50 for basically one small scoop of rice. SMH. It seems everyone who eats here probably orders ahead and me and my 3 friends were the only table in the restaurant (just a hint, go to the counter to order, I feel like a big idiot for sitting down at any table, expecting service). Anyway, my group sat ourselves and the woman who probably runs the place was SUPER nice and friendly and pretty attentive (as well she could be for the mass amount of people coming in to get take-out). The food itself was good. I enjoyed the hot & spicy wings (but not so much the sweet & mild-- the taste was... not pleasing to my palate). We tried the mashed potatoes (which were basically like KY Fried Chicken mashed potatoes... not bad at all, despite every bad review they've gotten on this site) and the fries (crinkle cut and plain). The only minor qualm I have about the chicken itself is that you don't know how many bones are in each piece... obviously the wings and the drumsticks are recognisable, but the majority of the plate was balls of chicken with hidden bones. Wavering between a 2 and a 3 here. It's not awful but it's not great. And you kind of have to be great if you're competing with Choong Man and Bon Chon in the neighborhood. + Time for execution was reasonable and service amiable. ~ Radish felt too watery, too sweet, not sour/marinated enough. Also I'd prefer it to not be swimming in the pickling liquid. ~ The sauce. My partner preferred the soy garlic but to be honest I think the mild sweet (which I thought was soy garlic since it had more flavor, but then also was sweeter than the other one that I thought was soy garlic?) was better. You'd like this place if you like to slop up the sauce and add it to rice or something, since they're heavy on the sauce -- it's not a "glaze" type of approach that are typical of other Korean fried chicken places, it's more like the heavy sauce coating you'd expect from more American wing joints. - The chicken pieces. You'll like this place if you like to eat all the random pieces of chicken with all the bones, etc. I suspect they cut the thigh into pieces and batter it, so it looks like a nugget but then you find yourself navigating battered crispy... bone pieces. Not my fave. Probably won't be going back again. But hey, Cheogajip is the only place I know that has grilled chicken options, so maybe I'm missing out on there? read more

I really loved this place! I was looking for a bonchon type of chicken place and this place was delicious! Next time I'll probably opt for only soy garlic - their spicy is quite intense. I like that they use the whole chicken and not just the wings. I also loved their chicken feet (which I've only ever had at Chinese dim sum) so that was fun to try. Really sweet staff person (possibly owner? She was doing phones, orders, cooking, and packaging the food!) I'll be back for their excellent (and well priced) food next time I'm shopping at H-mart next door! read more

I just bought from this place for the first time. I ordered half and half chicken and original chicken. While some of the pieces had a decent amount of meat, a majority of them were mostly flour and bone. My family did not enjoy the chicken as much due to the lack of meat. If this place would sell chicken with more meat, especially considering the price tag, maybe I would come back. Otherwise, I will not be going here again. The flavors of chopped chicken range from savory soy to spicy and the in between. The spicy option is intense and will overpower the soy flavor if you choose half and half. I decided to eat here after reading Yelp reviews. I liked what I read so I went to get some chicky chicky bang bang. Good food, slightly pricey, nice sauce, interesting dive-carryout. The place is basically seems like a Korean chicken carryout. There are a few tables in there but its more of a counter spot. However, if you do want to eat there, they treat it like a restaurant, they serve you and you tip. If you try to not have them serve you they get mad...lol. The food takes forever...not a long time...forever...so call ahead or order a pitcher of beer, chill out and watch the crazy Korean shows on the TV. And don't write a yelp review crying about how long it takes, you literally just read it and have the expectations going in. You can choose different sauces, I get it on the side. The food was pretty spicy, which I liked. If you like stuff real spicy you might not think it is spicy...but let's not turn this into a spicy debate. The chicken is better than most other Asian style restaurants where I avoid wings. Its not KFC, its a very different style. A comparable spot is BonChon, this place is more of a divey spot and it may not have the same flavor as the overrated chain, but its kind of cool. The TV plays Korean television and the lady at the front watches Korean soap operas on her iPad the whole time. She was very nice to me, and had to explain that the weird complimentary white cubes in a liquid were some kind of pickled radishes. I think she thought I was a science experiment, she observed how weird I was trying to figure out the mystery of the cubes, how I drank several cokes, and how I carefully examined my wings. As of now I haven't eaten at many of the spots in the shopping center (my goal for 2018), but I was pleasantly surprised with the chicken. I haven't been here in so many years but I heard from a few friends that the owner had changed recently so I wanted to try it out. I came here with my boyfriend and we were pleasantly surprised and satisfied at how tasty everything came out to be! The portion sizes were big and will definitely fill you up while the price remains pretty decent and reasonable. The chicken was so juicy and the coating was so crispy. The fries and onion rings were also fried so well!! Fries is one of my favorite foods and I would say they were on point. Customer service was amazing; the owner was so sweet and talked to us personally. She made our experience really awesome and I would definitely eat here again. The hot flavor had the perfect amount of spice and it got spider and tastier the more I ate it. Great place for chicken. Be aware that this is a cut whole chicken and not just wings and legs. The amount of spice was perfect, I prefer things on the hot side and the flavors were good as well. The only problem was that it was way too sweet and as a result, we were left tasting it for the rest of the day. I tried the new tteokbokki and it was so flavorful with the right amount of spice - hands down the best tteokbokki in town. Whoowee! When they say "hot and spicy is very hot" they mean it. It's not "this is very hot for white people" -- this is "very hot, fo' serious!" Wings only, buffalo bites, or a whole chicken cut up and flavored the way you want it. They also have traditional fried chicken, but done up in the Korean fried chicken way - virtually greaseless and perfectly crispy. If you live in the 'hood (read: within a 15 minute drive) it's definitely worth it in comparison with your standard OTHER version of KFC. read more

Alright - so I am starting with this review when I have like 90 others I need to post that I have already written but I wanted to do this while it was fresh in my mind. First I have to thank Miriam for getting everyone together for this event and Kelsey for starting this thread! Well let's start with the drive out! Once on 66 we ran into a traffic accident so we jetted off 66 to take the back roads which I would have said I know very well till tonight. It took us like 40 minutes to get out to Centerville and another 35 trying to find the damn place! BRADDOCK Rd. my ass!!!! That is all I am going to say on the subject! Once we found the place Thanks Kevin L for being our man on the street looking out for us! Miriam, Stef and myself walked in with Kevin and sat down at the already large table of other Yelpers! We all introduced ourselves as this was the first time some of us had met in person! Food had already been order so we sat right down to get to the business of tasting Korean fried chicken and sides! As you can see by the pictures the menu is limited to fried chicken, wings, little bites and side items and of course soda and a couple of beers! I think we had just about everything on the menu in some for or fashion with the exception of the bites and soda in one cup which looked very interesting. I only tried the sweet and mild version of the bites, the fried chicken and the fries! OK I did try the mash potatoes as well but we won't go there! OMG the basic fried chicken was heaven can I tell you! Not greasy at all. The prefect crunch when you bit into the chicken and the moistest chicken I have had outside my own. I would give the fried chicken alone 5 stars. After all the stress of getting to this place I also decided to have a beer - it was fair! I ended my meal here with a Fanta Strawberry soda! How can you go wrong with that it is what I should have started out with instead of the beer oh well lessons learned! We had several in the group that had the Hot and Spicy and if you look at the pictures you will see that it was spicy! Kevin was sweating from all the heat from those wings!
