Though the company itself is a startup and could use improvement, Anika was amazing from the start. She walked my husband and me through the basics of pregnancy and childbirth, so much of which was new to me. She had answers to all of my questions and was responsive to calls and texts. She was diligent about checking in on me even when I was bad at responding to those texts. Before I gave birth, she came to our house to discuss my birth plan, strategies for labor, and helped us practice laboring positions. My baby was breech at the time and she showed me several positions which could help turn him. I'd been told a C-section would be necessary if he did not turn, which I was very nervous about, but Anika walked me through the process in the event it did become necessary. Ultimately, he turned, which was such a relief. I ended up with an induction and an epidural, but Anika was incredibly supportive, asked questions of the nurses that I did not have the capacity to think about, and helped to guide my husband in physical support. Her presence gave my husband the opportunity to go home, shower and get something to eat while she walked the hospital hall with me as I labored. She also advocated for wireless monitoring so that I could be free to move about and didn't have to be bed bound (which was driving me crazy) -- something the hospital staff hadn't mentioned as an option. After my baby was born, she made a house call at my request to assist with lactation. My baby has been nursing wonderfully since and latching has been pain-free. I'd heard doulas could make a real difference, but Anika exceeded all of my expectations. She's not only a wonderful and knowledgeable doula, but an incredibly kind and attentive person. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a doula.

During that incredibly difficult time, China stepped in without hesitation. She helped introduce formula to my son so he could continue eating while I was receiving medications, and she even stayed past her scheduled hours to make sure my husband and mother felt confident caring for our newborn while I was away. She also supported me through a painful bout of mastitis and encouraged me to keep pumping and breastfeeding, which was incredibly important to me. Throughout every unexpected setback, she constantly reassured me that I was doing a great job and reminded me that things would get better with each passing week. China was so gentle, loving, and attentive with my son. I always knew he was in safe, capable hands, and that peace of mind allowed me to get the rest I needed. She was incredibly adaptable and always respected my preferences, which I appreciated so much. I honestly miss having her around and cannot recommend her highly enough. She gave me the confidence I needed as a first-time mom during one of the most vulnerable seasons of my life. She really took care of me like no other especially during labor and delivery. Not only did she advocate and support me but also supported my husband. Which means everything to me because just like I am new to it all since this is my first baby my husband is too so it can be very overwhelming when you don't really know much of what to expect. He adored the way she made us feel safe, heard & most importantly that we are in charge of the decisions because it is our experience not the Hospitals. Her energy and vibes were very needed to help lift my spirits and have the courage to deliever my baby. We tried our hardest for vaginal birth, she changed the whole aroma of my room & worked me out in different positions with the peanut ball to lower baby down to my pelvis. I was only able to dialate 4cm and because of some events that occurred during early labor we had to rule for a C-section which was the safest decision for baby and I. Dominique stayed majority of days I was there and even after baby was born stayed late to make sure husband baby and I are safe. She lives by the phrase of her goal being Healthy Baby Healthy Momma, and i felt that my whole experience when making hard decisions. Sasha met us at our home a few hours after being released from the hospital after an emergency c section. She was compassionate and extremely patient with our rollercoaster of emotions from being two scared new parents who needed a lot of help. But after the first night, all of our fears were laid to rest. Sasha took full Control and taught me how to properly breastfeed, pump and store my breast milk. She kept him with her in the living room while dad and I slept "soundly" from the hours of 11pm-7am and 9pm-5pm. She did wake me up every 3-4 hours to either feed babe or pump and then swiftly took him Back so we could get back to sleep. He had colic and we found ourselves in desperate, last-minute need of help. As a result, we had to piece together support from a series of care takers based on their limited availability. Importantly, however, this gave us the opportunity to compare multiple newborn caretakers. Suyee Fuentes stands head and shoulders above the rest and was our first phone call when we found out that our second son was on his way. Suyee's professionalism is unparalleled. Not once did she arrive a minute late. In fact, she was always about 15 minutes early. And she was never in a rush to leave in the mornings. In addition to working with the baby, she helped wash his clothes and clean bottles. She made sure everything was organized and that baby was fed before leaving every morning. Suyee has extensive experience, including with newborns, twins, premature neonates, and those with special needs. When we were overwhelmed with our first son's colic, Suyee provided us with a daytime schedule to bring order to the chaos. She encouraged us to establish a strong bedtime routine. And she advised us on best practices for feeding and burping. She did much of this before she even started and it set us down the right path to getting our first son (and us) on a normal routine. Suyee also brings a purposeful and structured approach to her work. Many other newborn caregivers we worked with were only focused on giving the parents a full night of sleep at all costs, even if that meant holding the baby all night. By contrast, Suyee focused on the baby's schedule and stressed the importance of respecting the baby's need to sleep in the crib. Of course every baby is different, but our baby is sleeping uninterrupted for more than 12 hours per night at three months old as Suyee is finishing her time with us. Perhaps her strongest and most unique quality is her empathy and support for the postpartum mother. She understands the mental and physical challenges we face during those first few months, and she goes out of her way to check in and provide support however she can. My only word of caution is to book early. For very understandable reasons, Suyee is (and should be) in high demand for her excellence, professionalism, and compassion.
