Mowgli's current vet did not do in home hospice care or euthanasia. However, taking her there to a place where she dreaded going to was not something i would even consider. I therefore researched Yelp and found Aloha Nui - Dr. Alana Kapust, who also was located on the East Side where i live. I scheduled an initial exam and consult at our home. At the initial consult, Dr. K confirmed that Mowgli was nearing the end of her journey and counseled me on what to do and look for in making the ultimate decision. I monitored her and later arrived at the difficult decision and scheduled an appointment. Dr. K arrived on schedule. The process was done with care and compassion and Mowgli was able to pass in the comfort of our home and I was able to say my sad goodbye, for which I was grateful. I opted for a private cremation and a special urn just like one that i had for my wife. A week later Dr.Kapust called and delivered Mowgli in her special urn with her clay pawprint and a lock of her fur. Alana - Thank You!

She would be out of sight being under furniture most of the time, because of this we named her "Hidey", a play on the name Heidi. Over the past couple of years she was slowly getting weaker, and I knew since she was 17, she was on the downhill slope of life. When it finally came time in December of this year, I sadly made the arrangements with Kakaako Pet Hospital. I chose to have her cremated with her ashes reutrned to me and the staff at KPH patiently went through what they'd be doing and what exactly to expect with a time frame. My appointment to have her put down was the following morning but my kitty went that night instead. Heartbreaking but that made me feel better that she was able to spend her last moments at home. I took her the next morning (Tuesday) to drop her off at KPH and was able to pick her up on Friday. Her ashes actually was ready the following day but a couple of things KPH does is get a plaster paw print of your pet and a clipping of fur if you choose to so the waiting was for the paw print to fully harden. All of this from the explaining of the total process and arranging with crematorium to doing something special like the paw print and fur clipping really made a big difference for me with comfortably being able to let go. When my family came back to Kailua from Okinawa with a new dog this office wasn't open. Yesterday my dog was not acting like himself. His normal vet could not get him in. So I decided to call around and noticed Kailua Pet Hospital was opened and decided to call. The gentleman at the front got me in within an hour. Dr. Thornburg was amazing and my dog felt comfortable with everyone in the office. Everything was explained to me throughly. It was determined that my dog most likely injured his neck so he was given the meds he needed to help with recovery. Today I can tell he's feeling much better. First of all I liked that, it shows that they have a concern for all the dogs they take care of, not just trying to make a profit. They also required two preventive measures from the vet that we did not have or know of. They also require a breakaway collar, to make sure the dog does not run into a choking issue. The dogs are separated by big dogs and small to medium dogs. There is a lot of employees with the dogs to supervise them. The place is clean and has AC to create a good environment. The staff is friendly and the dog love the person that took him into the play area. Also, off street parking, to pick up or drop off.

Went to the place to try a different approach try to be understanding, maybe they're busy who knows. . Owner seemed stressed like she just wasn't cut out for this kind of work. Her phone was ringing and didn't bother to pick it up. Said she'd be right with me and didn't come back. She doesn't have the professionalism I'd expect from someone I'd trust with my dog. Seems like she took more than could bite. Didn't seem organized. Didn't look too dog friendly for someone who runs a dog daycare. Mind you I tried to get a hold of her on the phone for five days. Nothing. Went into the place twice. She just doesn't seem cut out for this line of work probably just playing with daddy's money.
