It was months after the first contact with them that we had to let him go. They followed up in the meantime asking if we needed anything, offering support and literature to help us with our decision and timing of it. We had more than enough time to say our goodbyes, she asked us about Otis and his story of how we got him. Dr. Naum was so gentle and kind with him and us and gave us plenty of time with him after. We were out of town for a few weeks after, had his remains returned promptly to us after we returned. A very lovely sympathy note just arrived a few days ago. The paw print was beautiful and they included a clipping of his fur. It made the terrible decision to let him go a little more bearable. Highly suggest their services. Could take care of payment earlier on day of the appointment and that was super helpful.

I heard about Arms of Aloha in passing as others recommended them on various Facebook dog groups that I'm a part of. When my dog was diagnosed with cancer, one thing that popped into my mind was that, if possible, I'd like to let her cross over at home, where she was more comfortable. This thought was even stronger after having visited the vet so many times in the last weeks of her life. I had read up on the literature available on the Arm's of Aloha website (where you can also get an estimate) as well as preregistered. You can also look at their appointments available. They advise on making an appointment at least 1-2 days in advance, especially on the weekends. The hard part is knowing ahead what day that will be. My dog took a turn for the worst one day and I went back and forth on scheduling the only/last appointment available for the next day (appts can be seen/booked online). No one wants to make that call (decision), but it's also painful to watch your beloved friend suffer. They do have a thorough cancellation policy you can read online and I decided I'd book the last appointment to secure it and I could always cancel/reschedule more than 8 hours out. In the confirmation email, there is a link to a video to watch of the Doctor describing the process so you're familiar - I'd recommend this if it is your first time through this. I guess because it was already the next day, they called me shortly after to confirm my appointment. I could barely get the words out the confirm but I never felt judged by the person on the phone. The morning of the appointment, I received an invoice in my email. They suggest taking care of it ahead of time as doing it in the moment with so many emotion is harder. I appreciated this detail and was able to get it out of the way. At our scheduled appointment time, Dr. Naun came to our house. She has a calm and peaceful energy to her. She had some further paperwork for me to sign then we started the process. It was peaceful, and of course sad, but Dr. Naun brought comfort to the situation and we're so grateful for a service like this. We chose to have our dog's ashes returned to us and about a week later, we received a beautiful urn and our paw prints. With the service, they have a chaplain who you may access to talk to if you need help. I did not use it but they do also offer at home palliative care.

He was too heavy to take to the vet and I was torn about what to do. After a bad weekend for him, I called Lap of Love, and was referred to guides and assessments. The materials helped me with the decision as well as how to prepare myself, my lab and his companion. As his last meal, we got him a Big Mac Meal and an Oreo shake. My daughter in law brought over the kids to feed him peanut butter and to say goodbye. Dr. Sunshine arrived and walked us through the process step by step. My dog was already resting on his bed so she was able to put him to sleep so gently and comforting. My husband, daughter and dog's companion were there to watch him take his last breath. I've put down my prior running dog at a vet's office, and while the vet was so kind, it was very traumatic for me. I was so hesitant this time and ready to be traumatized again. But Lap of Love prepared us to say goodbye. Thank you Dr. Sunshine.

Most places weren't even open or never responded or took too long. Thankfully I reached out to lap of love who called me almost immediately at 530 am. I was hesitant since it seemed like a third party on the mainland was coordinating. They called the doctor a male and said he'd be flying in?? Anyways we scheduled for 11am. And Dr Sunshine texted and kept in touch cause we had to coordinate parking since we live in an apartment. She arrived on time and she was so professional and kind through the process. I was so thankful our dog was able to pass at home comfortably. Thank you Dr Sunshine!

She would be out of sight being under furniture most of the time, because of this we named her "Hidey", a play on the name Heidi. Over the past couple of years she was slowly getting weaker, and I knew since she was 17, she was on the downhill slope of life. When it finally came time in December of this year, I sadly made the arrangements with Kakaako Pet Hospital. I chose to have her cremated with her ashes reutrned to me and the staff at KPH patiently went through what they'd be doing and what exactly to expect with a time frame. My appointment to have her put down was the following morning but my kitty went that night instead. Heartbreaking but that made me feel better that she was able to spend her last moments at home. I took her the next morning (Tuesday) to drop her off at KPH and was able to pick her up on Friday. Her ashes actually was ready the following day but a couple of things KPH does is get a plaster paw print of your pet and a clipping of fur if you choose to so the waiting was for the paw print to fully harden. All of this from the explaining of the total process and arranging with crematorium to doing something special like the paw print and fur clipping really made a big difference for me with comfortably being able to let go. Hidey is now home and she will always live on in my memories. Thank you Kakaako Pet Hospital.
