I heard about Arms of Aloha in passing as others recommended them on various Facebook dog groups that I'm a part of. When my dog was diagnosed with cancer, one thing that popped into my mind was that, if possible, I'd like to let her cross over at home, where she was more comfortable. This thought was even stronger after having visited the vet so many times in the last weeks of her life. I had read up on the literature available on the Arm's of Aloha website (where you can also get an estimate) as well as preregistered. You can also look at their appointments available. They advise on making an appointment at least 1-2 days in advance, especially on the weekends. The hard part is knowing ahead what day that will be. My dog took a turn for the worst one day and I went back and forth on scheduling the only/last appointment available for the next day (appts can be seen/booked online). No one wants to make that call (decision), but it's also painful to watch your beloved friend suffer. They do have a thorough cancellation policy you can read online and I decided I'd book the last appointment to secure it and I could always cancel/reschedule more than 8 hours out. In the confirmation email, there is a link to a video to watch of the Doctor describing the process so you're familiar - I'd recommend this if it is your first time through this. I guess because it was already the next day, they called me shortly after to confirm my appointment. I could barely get the words out the confirm but I never felt judged by the person on the phone. The morning of the appointment, I received an invoice in my email. They suggest taking care of it ahead of time as doing it in the moment with so many emotion is harder. I appreciated this detail and was able to get it out of the way. At our scheduled appointment time, Dr. Naun came to our house. She has a calm and peaceful energy to her. She had some further paperwork for me to sign then we started the process. It was peaceful, and of course sad, but Dr. Naun brought comfort to the situation and we're so grateful for a service like this. We chose to have our dog's ashes returned to us and about a week later, we received a beautiful urn and our paw prints. With the service, they have a chaplain who you may access to talk to if you need help. I did not use it but they do also offer at home palliative care.

Mowgli's current vet did not do in home hospice care or euthanasia. However, taking her there to a place where she dreaded going to was not something i would even consider. I therefore researched Yelp and found Aloha Nui - Dr. Alana Kapust, who also was located on the East Side where i live. I scheduled an initial exam and consult at our home. At the initial consult, Dr. K confirmed that Mowgli was nearing the end of her journey and counseled me on what to do and look for in making the ultimate decision. I monitored her and later arrived at the difficult decision and scheduled an appointment. Dr. K arrived on schedule. The process was done with care and compassion and Mowgli was able to pass in the comfort of our home and I was able to say my sad goodbye, for which I was grateful. I opted for a private cremation and a special urn just like one that i had for my wife. A week later Dr.Kapust called and delivered Mowgli in her special urn with her clay pawprint and a lock of her fur. Alana - Thank You!

Our amazing pet sitter (or dog nanny as our daughter calls it) took incredible care of them, provided detailed daily updates, and also (bonus) acted as a "house sitter" in a way (see service list on their website). Dogs are never left alone for more than a few hours, get walks, playtime and pets, and get to be in their comfortable and familiar space. For us, this service made way more finanial and practical sense than putting 2 pets in a boarding facility (no need to struggle with drop off and pick up times and all the paperwork of a kennel plus no risk of injury or disease exposure). They also required two preventive measures from the vet that we did not have or know of. They also require a breakaway collar, to make sure the dog does not run into a choking issue. The dogs are separated by big dogs and small to medium dogs. There is a lot of employees with the dogs to supervise them. The place is clean and has AC to create a good environment. The staff is friendly and the dog love the person that took him into the play area. Also, off street parking, to pick up or drop off.
