Beautiful KOA Campground! We were meandering around Cherokee and Bryson City, when we needed a place to stay. It was after 4:00 when David left a message to book at this KOA. So we headed to the campground and got there just before it closed. It's huge and it's a Holiday KOA! That means lots of stuff to do especially for the kids. As we got to our spot we saw families walking, cooking, riding bikes and fishing. Yes, there is a creek on the property for fishing and tubing. There is a little restaurant too. We saw nice playgrounds, rides, and a dog park for Freckles. So KOA maybe a little more expensive, but you can do ways count on them for a late arrival. We've done it lots of times! read more

yes the campground looks nice and has a good layout. but has absolutely no television reception at all office staff is nice but that's all. the grounds maintenance workers will mow grass on and around your site blowing grass and dirt all over your site and rig and vehicles without offering to blow anything off Went to go to the pool only to find the indoor pool was closed so we went to the outdoor pool which had absolutely no indication it was closed to only to get yelled at by staff POOL CLOSED YALL HAVE TO GO. yes you read that correctly. talk about rude camp store closes at 5 so make sure you have what you need before then bath houses nasty never in my life have I seen a KOA so horrible and rude. read more

Normally we travel in an RV, however, in March we traveled with our truck and motorcycle trailer as we wanted to ride the popular roads around the Smokies. So for the first time, We reserved a cabin (KT510), at the front of the campground, Deluxe, Full kitchen (stove top/no oven), over Raven River, One bedroom (queen), bathroom/shower, propane Weber grill. The negative reviews are mostly from 2020 & 2021 when Covid hit staffing issues. But, we thoroughly enjoyed our early Spring stay. Staff is exceptional !! A CLEAN cabin, windows function well, bed was extremely comfortable, they have pots, pans, dishes, cups and utensils. Though, I'd wash them before using. One small pan was great, but the other teflon cookware were destroyed by people using metal instead of plastic. Bring non-stick foil for the grill. And your own K-cups for the Keurig as they supply two, or you'll have to purchase more. Their store has snacks, beer, wine, supplies. The Cafe is only open seasonally, so bring your food and such if you don't want to eat out for every meal. They do have a full size refrigerator. Only about 6 minutes to town/Cherokee. We used the two wall heaters (one in bathroom and one in bedroom), but also used the electric fireplace to warm up the front room in the mornings. There is only one (remote controlled) AC located in the kitchen/front room, but each room has a ceiling fan. The front room had a couch/futon. And the river was an amazing bonus to listen to and watch. They allow trout fishing, get your license there. Lots of amenities, but in mid-March the pools and hot tub were closed as was the desire for corn-hole and community fire pit. We were able to park in a long space with our trailer to load and unload our motorcycles at our cabin lot, which worked perfectly. But if it's summer, you may not be able to use that particular space. (we never detached to use our truck). They have extremely helpful after hours staff who were able to explain how to get the fireplace to turn on, and that the grill is permanently attached to a propane line and doesn't need a tank. Smart/Streaming TV. Great WiFi. Dog park. Did not utilize the campground bathhouse or laundry. This was a great KOA in a great location, but not if you'd rather be in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge as it is up and over the Smokies which will make an early all day adventure. This was a great location for motorcyclists to ride toward Robbinsville, Tail of the Dragon, Moonshiner 28, Cherohala Skyway and other areas away from Gatlinburg. read more

Big rigs take hits on roof and there are very narrow roads to get there and then pay $112 per night (military rate). Said it was river front and it wasn't. Asked for the grass to please be cut or let us borrow a lawn mower, and a day later they showed up to cut one side of the concrete pad, not both. Stagnant small body of water that we could walk to and it was very overgrown, snaky and non-flowing poisonous looking water. Kids unattended and everywhere. NOT SAFE for cars or kids. People were still up with fires and tons of kids AFTER 11 PM. Even 10:30 would be okay ... but at 11 and still with fires and 10-15 people around fire talking loud and still riding skate boards. Only a few diesels, and I know why. We are really just so disappointed with KOA Holiday Cherokee and spent over $1,000 for a nasty, overgrown, never cleaned nor sprayed off any site dirt, nor grass cut around many places of campground. Overpriced and Under maintained and managed Not governed by anyone we ever saw And be aware many shops close are VERY commercial and old remains in Cherokee and many closed Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. I love the location and the luxury cabins (kitchen/bath/living room) are perfect-spacious and pet friendly. Beware cleanliness is NOT a priority, keep your flip flops on! I just watched 3 individual neighbor cabins move out-end of stay, and guess how much cleaning was done? NONE, none!!! I watched a guy use a blower to clean the patio area, and saw a female change the bed linens and replace towels...no mopping or sanitizing the places at all-don't put your toothbrush on the bathroom sink, nor go barefoot in the shower, as well, hardwood floors, zilch, no cleaning at all. Both service employees were gone within 10 minutes! Additionally, every blind in every window has "peep holes"/torn/missing ...I used towels to get the proper privacy. Also, wash your dishes before using, their cleaning staff relies on the previous guest to wash the dishes/utensils. read more

We have stayed multiple times at the Cherokee KOA and loved every visit there. The bathrooms/bathhouses are always nice and clean (only one have I seen them nasty and that was a Halloween weekend, packed to the max but were cleaned first thing the next morning). The staff are always friendly and helpful and the grounds are kept clean. We have stayed in tent sites as well as a cabin both were perfect for the times we used either or. The only complaint is the hours of the pool, closing an inside pool and hot tub at dusk instead of later like they used to doesn't make much sense to me. read more

Great spot for tent camping. Check in/out was super easy and staff was friendly. Some mold in the showers on the ceiling and crevices, but otherwise bathrooms were clean. Lots of activities for families, but lots of unattended kids moving around, made us rather nervous with our SUV. Overall good stay. read more

AMERICAN as it gets! This place is tucked away beautifully in the great Smokey Mountains. As you arrive in Cherokee you will feel the Native vibe. As WE approached the KOA we were fortunate to be welcomed by elk feeding on the side of the road! Massively amazing. The Koa is large and spread out with plenty to do! We were an hour or so drive out of Pigeon forge right through the Smokey Mountains National park! and 1.30 min out of Asheville and the Biltmore estate. Perfectly located for many things to go. Mingo Falls is 4 miles out. Couldn't have asked for a better stay! Cabin was awesome... right on the river where we could hear the river 24/7 and we also were treated with a fishing tournament on the last day of our stay!! Would highly recommend this place and I will definitely be back! On a side note try the pizza at the pizza place located inside the KOA , you will be pleasantly surprised!! Our site is across from the playground. On us because we had not been here before and didn't know sites. Screaming kids all day. We requested a change but told all sites were booked. They were not. Employee in trailer across from us- loud verbal family fight last night. Today, small cabin across from us with SIX cars parked there. Figure they are employees, or related to, because no one is addressing this. We were told they can have as many cars as they want. They played music and were very loud late into the night. I would not recommend this campground. KOA website states complaints should go to that campground but they do not answer the phone. Husband said bathrooms are dirty but I don't go in them. read more

Unfortunately this KOA is not maintained well and I wish I would have looked at these reviews before I made reservations. It wasn't worth the cost. We have traveled to many KOA's and this one is the worst. The ponds are swamps with a nasty stagnant smell. The grounds are barely maintained and campers are allowed to stay at the KOA year round with sheds, homemade porches, overgrown grass, pavers piled up and laying around and the tenants do not maintain them. One night music was thumping until the morning hours. It's sad to see the owners let it go to this far in disarray. read more

I walked in to observe the staff either not wearing mask or having them under their nose. I was told to wear a mask and I told them I was unable to wear a mask for medical reasons but could wear a shield which I offered to get. I was again told to put the mask on. At this point I left. Nobody is going to treat me the way that woman treated me. I have stayed here numerous times but will never spend another dime there. They can close down as far as I am concerned. Have been going to this KOA for many years! It is in a neat location and they have made a lot of great updates to the facilities. This has always been one of my favorite spots. My only complaint is that the bath houses are not being kept up and cleaned like they used to be. read more

The cabin had mold all in the bathroom, the ceiling fan was shaking so bad you couldn't use it, we had a grease fire on the grille, it was so nasty we even used tin foil but it burnt the burgers so bad you couldn't even eat them, that was a waste of $30.00, the kitchen pan's are so burnt you couldn't use them, customer service is terrible, we had been staying here for years with our camper and brought our family down so we got a cabin, NEVER AGAIN!! We will not be back at all... We got there at 1:00 pm and was just hanging out and they said they were cleaning the cabin, we went to the cabin to look around and see if they were cleaning it, but NO, They lied no one had been there and they called me at 2:30 pm and said your cabin is clean and ready, it was so dirty, I had to sweep and clean it up....I do not recommend staying there...not worth $235.00 @ night,!!!! read more

BEAUTIFUL! The campsites are huge, the park is gorgeous, and there's an indoor pool with a hot tub! We checked in after hours and it was a breeze. There are people out until about 10 o'clock at night that check you in and show you to your site AND make sure you know how to hook up. (We were in an RV) They have firewood available for a price, a convenience store, and ice. There are cabins, tent spaces, and RV spaces. Spots near the water, mountain views, and beautiful trees! The showers and bathrooms were clean and full of hot water. Water pressure was great! The outdoor pool area was closed because we went during fall, but the indoor pool was awesome! The water is warm, and the hot tube is warmer ;) . There's a shower to rinse off right in the pool area. It's definitely worth the money, so just do it! read more

We tent camped here in mid September and really enjoyed our stay! The staff was friendly and helpful, and the bathrooms were clean. My husband got breakfast here one morning and enjoyed it. We loved that they have both indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs. The only downside is no phone signal and a weak WiFi signal (although the WiFi worked fine for checking email and Facebook.) read more

Staff was rude... in a nasty tone they told my sister-in-law that she had to park her bike down a trail around the back of the indoor pool just to go into the store and buy something. She refused. The wifi signal seems strong throughout the campground but there is less than 1 meg so it's useless. Cellular signal is almost nonexistent, but this is not their fault. If you want to be be off the grid then you will love this place. Bathhouse was very nice but the lights are on motion detectors so they turn off on you while you are inside. Stayed here with a group of friends during the weekend that it had rained like all week. The river was overflowing to the point that is was running through some camping spots at the campground. My group was going to tent camp for the weekend, but management upgraded us to their cabins for no extra fee. I'm glad they did. Got to stay warm and dry for at least my bedtime. They had a nice conference room we used for a full day to ourselves. And their bathrooms were probably the nicest ones I've seen for a campground. Nicely heated and clean. Would probably camp here again when it warms up more. read more

MY FAMILY AND I WILL NEVER BOOK ANOTHER RESERVATION AT THE CHEROKEE KOA! Wife and I made reservations for a mid April getaway with the daughter and granddaughter because we received a special rate on a deluxe cabin. Then without any type of warning my wife received a voice mail from a guy in a really abrupt tone, saying the campground was being closed due to the corona virus and that our reservations had been cancelled and our deposit would be refunded. Now I have no problem with the campground closing due to the corona virus. What I have a BIG problem with is the way they handled it! We were given no option to book a reservation at a later date with the special rate we had, as a matter of fact we were given no options at all. Just your cancelled, THE END!! My wife and I tried to make another reservation at a later date when the campground was to re-open, and because it was later in the season, the rates had increased and they would not honor the special rate we had before the closure making the 3 night stay more than $200 higher than the reservation we had before the closure. Forget that!! Well because of the way the campground handled this situation, they have lost our business for good, because we will never, ever make another reservation at the Cherokee KOA campground! read more

Been coming here since I was a teenager I'm in my 50s now so 35 years plus. The last three visits over the course of five years it has declined to the point that it is now. I will never be back I can say that and I'm the third generation of my family have been going to this KOA campground my kids have gone and I've grown up there. It's gotten to the point where the staff is just so rude to people I guess because they have so much business I don't know they've just decided that they are not going to treat people correctly or with dignity.I've given it to stars literally because of the location and how beautiful the countryside is there it used to be a great campground fun kids had fun I had fun mom and dad had fun now it's just rude overpriced expensive exploitation of a whole family. read more

The facilities were great, the kids had a great time then we left, that's when the "fun" began. I will keep this short simply because it angers me so. After we left my daughter realized she had left her bag in the cabin we had stayed in, myself and 3 other adults called nearly nonstop for 3.5 hours, yes this was Memorial Day, all we got was the recording even when we pressed the option 2, which is " If you're in the campground and need assistance press 2" I chose this option 11 times to no avail, this went on until 6pm when the office closed and again the following day from 9am until noon when I finally had to leave work and drive 1.5 hours to get it, luckily it was still there. I tried to speak to the manager that surprise wasn't there and the lady I had to speak with just blew me off saying they were short staffed and had been by herself until just before I got there, in the store where no-one was except me, her and one other employee. and she been answering the phone all day making reservations right after she said the campground used a service to do that very thing. Our first camping trip in our newly purchased camper was a total disappointment thanks to the Cherokee KOA. I made online reservations, which gave me a confirmation except it did not indicate which site. We called the office to find out which site we reserved, and the lady said it would be a $10 charge to know the site. When we arrived and was assigned our site, to our dismay our site was a dump. Both the entrance and exit to the site had a huge mud hole, and filled with water. The pic-nic table pad was muddy and dirty. There were thorny seed husks all over our campsite. There was hardly no grass at our site. The fire ring was beside the road and not near our camper or pic-nic table. This unkept site was not conducive with having 3 young children. The indoor pool and hot tub was yellow and murky. The indoor hot tub jets didn't work. The outside hot tub didn't even work at all so it had cold water. We went to the office to attempt a resolution in this matter, and the manager on duty (06/14/2018) was not helpful at all, and obviously does not practice customer satisfaction. He only offered for us to move to the site beside the one we had. That site was basically in the same condition minus the mud holes. That also meant packing everything back up, disconnecting the camper utilities, and pull it around to that site. After paying $227.40 plus a $14.00 resort fee you would expect better facilities and service. read more

This campground was great. The kids had so much to do. It was quiet on the busy Easter weekend so we had plenty of time to relax. The staff was helpful the couple of times we needed something. The only suggestions I could possibly have would be the camp store is kind of limited in supplies. We needed a loaf of bread and they did not have any and the basketball court was small and only had one hoop. Other than those things it was an enjoyable stay. If you are using Onstar for GPS it will take you to the wrong location. We used our iPhone GPS after the Onstar sent us on a road that I got the challenge of having to turn around a 27' camper. read more

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE JOANNE FURR Manager. This is the absolute worst place to visit. After of them lying to us that there was no Wi-Fi. I was called a terrorist and they called the Cherokee POLICE on my family because I told him that I would be leaving a review. The adult pool was disgustingly gray with scaly scum around the edge of the pool the hot tub had 8 inches of foam coming out of it not knowing if I was going to contact a flesh eating bacteria? At my RV site as I stepped out of my RV to connect my power and sewer there were 11 piles of dog crap. After I requested to speak to the manager they told me that she was not in today but once I left and started talking to one of their representatives outside she magically appeared and started to yell at me and my wife because we were complaining she said that we were not at a five-star hotel "we are camping" with this said my wife has it all on video. She then called over this person who started screaming at us because she was asked by her boss to explain to us why the polls were dirty. We stayed in a deluxe 4 person cabin in September 2019. The cabin was on the river with a nice porch equipped with a gas bbq, chairs & a porch swing. Inside was equally well equipped with heaters in the bathroom & bedroom & a pretty gas fireplace in the living room.it was also air conditioned All linens were supplied. There was a smallish..maybe 14 sq ft fridge/freezer that was more than adequate. A 2 burner cooktop allowed simple cooking. Pans & utensils as well as dishes were supplied. In the middle of my shower the KOA decided to turn off the water for 3 hours. They said they tried to let everyone know. We were in our campsite all day no one said anything. Booked here because a notice popped up about covid masks social distancing and care they were taking. That's all bs. Crew drives around fast on golf carts with mask around their chins. No social distancing anywhere we saw , indoor pool packed at times and the bouncing pad kids throwing dirt and sticks no supervision and no dish or local tv channels work. No reception at all. This was probably the biggest KOA we have ever been to. The price for a tent site was good but there was also an additional 3.50$ resort fee that we had to pay when we checked in. The girl checking us in was very kind. The man who brought us to our tent site was even nicer! We got a nice little grassy spot set up our tent on. The campground was great! The bathrooms were like brand new and very clean. The laundry machines worked well. The wifi was not good on our site but was very quick in the bathrooms/ laundry rooms and around the main building. The location was great!! Overall we had a great stay and would definitely go back next time were in the Great Smoky Mountain area. read more

First of all, I had been going to this KOA for over twenty years and used to love it. I couldn't get there for a few years due to health problems and was so excited to finally get back--for my belated 40th birthday trip. In the meantime, we are KOA members and have gone to dozens of KOAs closer to home over the years. This time, we arrived for our reservation on October 25th and I had reserved the month prior. I was directed to a cabin that was nothing like what I had booked or paid for. It was extremely inferior with no view, but I had paid a premium for a river site. I am a nature lover, so my main reason for going is specifically that river view. I have used the same cabin and reservation option for two decades! I asked if they were at least refunding part of my payment for the inferior cabin and extreme inconvenience, but the night guard would not let me talk to a manager. He would talk to the manager on the radio but she refused to address the situation to me. She was extremely rude and refused to adjust me to a lower price for the far inferior cabin and inconvenience. At the time, I felt they should have offered me some discount or adjustment for neglecting to honor my original reservation--especially since they didn't warn me ahead of time. If they had, I would have never wasted my time and money getting there. All I wanted was that view, but the put us in a group cabin on top of a rowdy family with a trash hauling truck directly in front of my cabin as my "view." When I felt uncomfortable paying my original premium price for the the far inferior substitute they offered, she threatened that I had to leave or she'd call the police. I had been a long time customer of over twenty years and was stunned at this terrible customer service and aggressive rudeness. They refused to treat me with any decency and would not take care of the situation. They left me with no place to stay for two very young children after an eight hour drive, and the company still refuses to answer calls or messages. They have been irresponsible and unethical. This was an especially special trip for us, so the emotional damage was just as bad. They ruined a trip for us after several years of serious medical issues and my 40th birthday celebration. It wasn't just some jaunt to the mountains. It was something we had been hoping to reach for several years of extreme struggle. To be denied my reservation, treated like trash, and refused any adequate adjustment of the price was just stunning. The corporate office does not reply to messages either. Our family stayed in the cabins on the river. The view was beautiful and the cabins were clean. My only complaints are that the cabins didn't have more relaxing furniture for sitting. For six of us only 2 could sit on the couch. When it is raining a lot and you are stuck inside it would be nice to be able to sit on something other than hard chairs. There is a eating place on the campground but the food was terrible. I got the Phily cheese sandwich and fries. The fries were flat and soggy. The phily sandwich was less to be desired. It took almost 30 minutes to cook but I expected it to be better. I would not recommend the food. The staff was friendly and on top of things. read more

Really love this place overall. However, this trip the cabin had many things in need of general maintenance. The Kitchen sink tap was loose. The bbq grill was not working. The water went out the day we were leaving. The coffee supplies/sugar were low. The paper supplies were also lower than normal. Then, we were told to move our car. Lot's of room for improvements.
