Also as noted by others, Martine is highly professional and a pleasure to work with. I came to Martine with extreme lower back pain from sports related scar tissue. I had gone to the doctor, receiving muscle relaxers. I cannot take medications like that and remain functional so I needed another immediate solution as well as a long-term resolution. After that I tried chiropractic work, receiving excellent help. However I realized the muscle work around the spine and sacrum was how I received true relief. From there I began trying deep tissue sports massages where I found immediate relief from the pain when it cropped up. Then I found Martine. Martine's treatments not only resolved the problem but also like others note, Martine gave me tools to help care for myself, extending the work and enabling me not to return reinjured. With the lower back now under control, with no further debilitating pain, I have since gone to Martine for treatment packages to repair specific muscles - once an upper arm and another a calf and most recently work on my forearm. Sometimes I arrive with the muscle almost unusable and within sessions I have full and pain-free flexibility and mobility. Honestly, the muscles of focus are healthier than their supposed healthy counterpart on the opposing arm or leg. Moreover, and again, the repaired areas do not return to their original injured state. My favorite story to tell of working with Martine over these last years is that the year I turned 40 my doctor's office measured me a quarter inch taller than I have ever been measured!

I felt pretty great from other massage therapists in the area, but I feel fantastic when I'm done with Emily. She was able to hone in on bad spots in my shoulder's nerve causing some numbness in my fingers, help one of my ribs go back to the right place, and almost put me to sleep when she massaged my head and neck. She doesn't have a static routine she works through every visit. She will get everywhere you ask, but she has a talent to find out where you need it most. I've lived in Boston for 9 years and have tried 9 different masseuses - I've had bad massages, and I've had pretty good ones, but I haven't had one that was like, oh man, I need to repeat that. But... I think I finally found my masseuse guys. She gave me the best massage I've had in YEARS. Why would going deep in a particular area of my shoulder cause my left foot to tingle? Why is the slight lower back pain I've had for months now gone after she fixed a weird alignment thing in my right hip I didn't even realize was there, but that she felt? Why is it 3 days later and I still have that buttery calm post-massage feeling (I showered, I promise, so it's not that!)? She uses yummy smelling natural stuff like coconut oil and shea butter with essential oils - no mystery chemical smells while the massage is going on. Her space in Arlington is relaxed and clean and homey. I've mostly gone to more spa-like environments for massages and wasn't sure what this would be like, but I can say the coziness and warm lighting was preferable! All that said, she could move her practice to the #1 bus stop in Central Square and I'd probably still go see her. That's how good she is. I have since recommended her to a lot of friends, and they have all enjoyed her as well. The building is pretty, though it does have flights of stairs if that is a concern for you. There is usually plenty of free private parking in the back of the building (at least there has been when I've gone after work during the week), which relieves parking stress. The lobby of the building has complimentary teas and water which helps when it's warm or cold outside. Abi is attentive and starts each session by asking what you'd like to focus on, and pays a lot of attention to what you'd like to achieve. She is very aware and considerate of scrapes and bug bites and the like, and adjusts to fit feedback well (I get ticklish sometimes since I have nerves that are unhappy some places, and she's always adjusted immediately when I've mentioned it's tickling). There's always relaxing music to listen to. Occasionally I get into deep relaxation during a session and I leave those feeling completely rejuvinated, my mind having wandered off into daydreams and plans, and working out what I'd like to achieve in the coming weeks. Her experience is obvious from the start... Great that she works on Cirque when they are in town. They obviously require a certain level of expertise. Quick explanation of the areas that might need some attention and she got to work. I asked for a deep tissue massage which is my preference. She was able to work out all of the trouble spots and I left feeling all sorted out. Great location on Boylston right across from Copley Park. Close to the Orange Station where there's a Jugos if you want to hydrate or grab a quick snack after the session which I did. Had a great conversation with her during the session - I know some might not like to converse while getting work done but I enjoy it. Will definitely try to get another session in when I am in town would be a regular if I lived here.
