I would like to give negative stars. After seeing this on the Today show, I wrongly assumed they could handle Christmas orders with great customer service. In fact, they can't do either. I payed $36 in shipping plus $4 in shipping insurance for a gift to be delivered on Sat 12/21. It never showed up. They never sent me a confirmation tracking email. I've spoken to them twice today and been hung up before getting my tracking number. Over $150 and 10 phone calls later, and I'm no better off. I've never received worse service from a company. RIp off!! Lousy customer service!! Terrible product!! Ordered a turkey and all the fix-ins for CHRISTMAS dinner. Also, other crab products, salmon, etc. It was supposed to be delivered on December 20th so the turkey could unthaw and be ready for the big dinner. A message was left on my voicemail late on the 19th to let me know that the company missed the deadline to send out some of their orders and would try again on the 23rd (meaning my order would arrive on Christmas Eve). Freakin Fantastic!! So here I am on Christmas eve and my box just arrived. Turkey is frozen solid so useless for our meal. The "holiday fixins special" that I paid $14 was a bag of powdered gravy, a bag of dehydrated potatoes for maybe 2 people, a bag of frozen beans and a bag of stuffing mix. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY!!! I now have to find a way to get something for our holiday dinner at 5pm on Christmas Eve. What makes me really angry is that when I called them on Monday they didn't care and said that I was not the only one that didn't get my order so I shouldn't be angry! Well that makes me even angrier that they care so very little for their customers. Their prices are ridiculously high and the product is awful. I could have purchased much better everything at the grocery store down the road and had a $100 bill to spare. One star is my Christmas gift to you...only because I can't give you none! read more

I ordered a half bushel live blue crabs on a Monday for Wednesday delivery. They arrived Wed around 1 pm, and only 2 crabs of about 40 appear that they might be dead. They might still be ok. Very impressed! I was very nervous about this, as you just place your order and pay a lot of money, get an email saying they got your ordered, and then hear nothing and just hope they arrive and everything will work out as planned. I did get an email the morning of delivery confirming the UPS shipment. I wouldn't try to order live crabs shipped in the middle of the summer, but October seems to be cool enough for them to survive the trip just fine. Worst customer service ever. Ordered seafood package for my parents & mussels were all spoiled. The stench was there before we even opened the box. Delivery was on Sat. Emailed to them in the afternoon. No response. Called on Monday, no one picked up the call so left voicemail message. No response. Tried on Tuesday finally got hold of someone. Told them mussels were spoiled, they asked for a photo. Now who would think of keeping the rotten mussels. Obviously it was already thrown away. Their reply no photos then no refund. What a rip off. This company refused to honor my groupon voucher. I called to discuss this with them and spoke with "Courtney," who raised her voice and was extremely rude to me, and told me she owed me "nothing." I would recommend never doing business with this company; they are shady, fraudulent, and money-hungry. Aside from this, the products on the website all come with a $30 minimum shipping fee AND a $10.00 packaging fee, so you're paying an extra $40.00 on TOP of already overpriced seafood. This our go to place for crabs, shrimp, clams when we aren't at the beach. I have never had a problem with size or bad smelling crabs. I do look at the crabs before they close it. They are always friendly and reasonable. We got a bushel of LG/XLG and shrimp for Mothers Day. The crabs were fat and tasty along w/the steamed shrimp. read more

STAY AWAY from the Chesapeake Crab Connection. It was absolutely the worst blue crab-ordering experience I've ever encountered and it was extremely disappointing because my hopes were so high. I wish that I could give them negative stars because they don't deserve any. We ordered a bushel of their jumbo blue crabs weeks in advance and requested that they be delivered on Dec. 24th for a Christmas Eve crab feast that my family from all over the United States was flying in to attend. We paid over $300 for the crabs and delivery (we also used a Groupon that gave us a small discount). However...after not seeing any shipment confirmation in the days leading up to the crab feast, I decided to call them on Dec. 24th to confirm that the crabs were indeed sent. They were not sent, however. The customer service rep said that they were not able to fulfill our order or a bushel of jumbo crabs and they didn't bother to inform me in advance. I asked to speak to a manager to discuss this further. I was shocked when the manager tried to explain by telling me that their fisherman couldn't catch enough jumbo crabs and that the only crabs they had were small and light... She went so far as to say "the circumstances were beyond our control", which I found absolutely insulting. You are a crab company. You took my money, and then said that you couldn't catch any of the crab that I purchased, which is what your business is built around. What part about that is beyond your control?! As a business owner myself, I know the importance of good customer relations and customer service. I was extremely disappointed, and my family that had flown to town from all over the country for the feast was outraged (not to mention, they didn't even bother to look into alternate solutions, such as purchasing crabs elsewhere (rather than catching their own) and sending those to us in order to fulfill the order). I wanted a refund, which should have been given instantaneously and without question. Also, for the horrible service and inconvenience of the whole thing, I asked them to send me some crabs at a later date to prove that they were a legitimate company that was committed to satisfying their customers. Despite being upset that my extended family would not be able to enjoy them together as planned, I thought this was a fair resolution to the problem. They refused and again tried to tell me that it wasn't their fault that they couldn't deliver on my order. It's now 2 weeks later, and I have STILL not received a refund NOR have I received a phone call from anyone at the company. I have called and left voicemails (and at one point even asked that the owner of this company personally call me) yet nobody has returned any of my calls I've ordered crabs from companies who were able to deliver on their promises. Chesapeake Crab Connection is by far the worst experience I've ever had, and I feel obligated to spread the word about my experience with them so that others can avoid ordering from this company. They will take your order, take your money, and then never send your order or bother refunding your money. read more

I was on the hunt for a creative birthday gift for my father, as neckties and home depot gift cards were getting a little tired. Perusing Groupon one day I came across the deal by CCC. I thought it would be a fun little gift to send to my dad who lives nearly 3,000 miles away from me. I also thought if my sister wanted to chip in a little (hey, they're pretty pricey on there!) I would not protest. Without checking first, we both purchased the Groupon on our own separate accounts. The next day, I called customer service right when they opened and was met with the answering machine several times. I tried back thirty minutes later and the manager picked up on the first ring. I explained the situation and asked if we could possibly combine the two Groupons. He didn't even make me beg! He agreed to my demands and let me know they are able to accommodate 'special circumstances.' He also apologized for not getting to the phones quicker. Apparently a snow storm had kept most of his employees from making it in that day. After we took care of the entire order on the phone, he sent me a personalized email and even agreed to add a little card into the package upon request. So nice! Amazing customer service. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone. The delivery horror stories of past yelpers made me so nervous about the packages impending arrival. No need, though. The package arrived right on its scheduled date at 9 am. My dad was so surprised and thrilled! It made me feel all tingly inside hehe. My dad said the crabs were 'delicious' and that he loved the creative gift idea. Had to knock off a star for the price. I understand mom and pop places tend to be pricier, but dang! The shipping alone set me back 50 bucks! And your Groupon is not able to go towards shipping and handling fees. read more

Shouldn't even deserve one star actually. I live across the country and paid $120 for two dozen soft shell crabs as a surprise gift for a family member. Mixed my billing and shipping addresses during their shipping process and lost the crabs, never delivered. Called them, they sent another package out to the wrong state. Called again, no answer, no return call. Called them again a few days later, they sent out one dozen. Arrived at the right place two weeks after initial order, asked for a refund on the second dozen they hadn't sent. They refused and "sent out another package", arrived today with four crabs in it... it's been 4 weeks since my initial order and it still hasn't been placed correctly. Received 16 out of my 24 crabs. These people suck. Update: Finally called them enough to get a call back after a week, first nice person I talked to the entire time, "took care of refund". We shall see. read more

Used a $39 for $110 Groupon to order a dozen 5.5 inch blue crabs and a half dozen 4 inch soft shell crabs. After shipping/packaging charges I still had to pay $55 on top of the Groupon. What a rip off! The crabs have hardly any meat on them and tasted old on top of it. $95 (out of pocket) for this is a joke...I can't imagine paying for this without the Groupon discount. read more

I ordered 24 crabs, 1 pound of shrimp and 50 little neck clams for a party. They were precooked and seasoned and shipped overnight. I had 0 problems with the shipping, processing or consuming these products. My friends thought they were delicious, we warned them up for a few minutes in a broil with sausage, potatoes and corn. It was a big hit, these were very nice crabs. read more

I don't have any experience with shipping from the Chesapeake crab connection but I did get a chance to visit and despite the fact that they where not open for serving because they where expanding the restaurant the gentleman that we spoke to (Nick) was kind enough to heat up a soup and crabcakes for us. He was extremely sweet and I'm glad we stopped by... The crabcakes are delicious! And huge! read more

I have been ordering soft shell crabs for years on the internet, tried Chesapeake and was highly disappointed. First I ordered a dozen because they offered a dozen for free, but didn't receive the free dozen, then both dungeness crab back were cracked. When I called to tell them that I had to cancel a dinner party because they forgot to send me my "free" dozen, they acted as if I was lying, asked me to take a picture of what I received. I received my package on Friday night and their customer service was closed until Monday at 10:30 a.m.. How was I supposed to have the package unopened until then? Terrific experience with my blue crab order and party - thank you, Chesapeake Crab Connection! I originally ordered one-and-a-half bushels on Monday for my Saturday party in Austin, TX. Two days later, I changed my order to 2 bushels of jumbo males. Crabs arrived Saturday morning, as planned - two bushels, all males, all jumbo, all in great shape. The party went off beautifully and I have a couple of pounds of lump crab meat for salads, stuffed meats and crab cakes! Absolutely terrible...ordered steamed Jumbo crabs with a Groupon and received frozen crabs, that barely measured 4 inches. I'm from the Chesapeake area, and these crabs might be called mediums on a good day. They must have embarrassed, because they threw in a mess of claws to placate us. Looked like the scrapings from the bottom of the pot. This is the second time in as many years that they have not delivered as advertised. The last time they took money off the bill, so we decided to give them a second chance...everyone makes a mistake. We had a groupon offer which was $50 dollars for $25. SO we took advantage of it. got the crabs when they said and they were great we got Jumbo and they were great!!. This company is a rip off, even with a groupon. We ordered 18 crabs for a total out of pocket cost of approx $80 and when the crabs came, they were tiny ones that no restaurant would serve. Ordered on Saturday for 4:00 pm pickup on Sunday but clearly crabs sat around all day.The crabs were room temperature when we picked them up. And we found that they were dried out and nasty tasting. they might not be able to control the price or heaviness of the crabs but they should be able to cook crabs and serve them warm when you order ahead. this is probably the last time I will buy crabs. They are too expensive to risk this kind of diapointment. read more

This company has the worst customer service. I purchased jumbo lump crab meat for a special dinner for my family to make my crab imperial. When the order came it said on the package lump crab meat. Not jumbo as I ordered. In fact i would call it picked crab meat as there was not a lump jumbo or otherwise in sight. I ended up driving 30 minutes to get jumbo lump from another place which is why I had ordered in first place didn't want to waste over an hour on a day I waa cooking a celebration meal but there was no way I could serve what was sent. I left message with customer service and was instructed to send pictures which I did. Response was offering me a gift card that didn't cover the cost of the original product. But as others have already said it would cost a minimum additional $45 to purchase and ship another package of jumbo lump. I ordered a 2 dozen steamed crabs on 10/23/13 and was very disappointed about the the ordered when we received the product. these crabs are dead crabs. These are the worse Blue crabs we ever had. You can even by better Blue crabs in chinatown and will get better crab meat. Save your money and never order with this company!!! read more

Ordered Mediums Crabs got mainly smalls, ordered them to be ready in 45 minutes got there and they were cold. I used to order from them but serviced sky dived so drive out to Chesapeake city. Thought I would give it a try since didn't feel like driving, I will take the drive next time. read more

I used Groupon to try Chesapeake Crab Connection since I love seafood. First of all, the crab cakes (5 oz lump) really weren't that good. I've had much better. But the cost! Even with the Groupon I almost didn't order and thought I would just "eat" the cost of the Groupn. I should have. A fortune for just 4! They charged a $10 packing fee. Really?!? You're getting business by offering on-line, but you charge an extra fee like this is something beyond the norm?? I bought a Groupon for Chesapeake Crab Connection (ordercrabs.com) to have a bushel of crabs shipped to a bachelorette party we were throwing in Big Bear, CA. We all live in LA, but a bunch of us, including the bride-to-be, are from MD. I thought surprising the bride with a bushel of MD crabs, especially in the Summertime, would be a great idea. I bought the groupon and ordered the crabs way in advance for a Saturday delivery. On Friday morning, as I was preparing the last few things on my to do list before departing for Big Bear, I got a call and an emailing Chesapeake Crab telling me that unfortunately, Fed Ex would not deliver to the Big bear area code. I was losing my mind over it since we had planned all the food and the festivities around the crabs for the weekend. I spoke to Matt and explained the situation and he started brainstorming ideas of how we could make it work. Over the next few hours, I was in communications with Matt and all of our attempts were failing. I was devastated, but he did not back down. As I was on the road to Big Bear, I spoke to Matt and his boss, John. Together, they found a way to get the crabs delivered, on a Saturday, to the rural lake house we had rented! The crabs were a great surpise and a huge hit! We had a few mid-westerners and even a Canadian who had never eated MD crabs before and they all loved them! Thanks so much, Matt & John for coming through for me and my friends! I really appreciate that kind of customer service. Picture it. Valentine's Day, 2015. You want a special dinner with your honey so you spend over a hundred dollars for large male crabs, defined as 6-6.5 inches, point to point on the carapace. A very curt lady named Courtney calls you and asks if you want to reschedule their arrival because of predicted snow and when you say that, no, you want to take your chances, she denies any responsibility if they don't arrive on time - even though they had ample time to ship them. Phew- they arrive, but upon opening the bag, we discover that only 4 of the 12 approach the promised 6- 6.5 inches. In fact, most were less than 5.5 inches, the size of their mediums. They tasted good, but were light, half missed both claws, and as mentioned, they were nowhere near large males. I will never buy from this company again- no matter how desperate I am for Maryland crabs. Rip off does not begin to describe this. read more
