Imprompt dinner suggested by the boyfriend by multiple people since we have been here in DE. I'm sad we haven't been here earlier, as Eugene at the bar was a great host taking care of our many needs for food and drinks. We started with a Long Island Flight with four different drinks of varying taste from sour to sweet to waking me up for the delicious food coming out next. We did a half and half snow crab and dungeness crab with fries soaked in garlic butter. Did we take a photo, nope we dove in too fast. The last order was the cream of crab soup which was flavorful, creamy and savory for us while the fish and chips changed up our palate but the winner in my boyfriend's book was the crab pretzel. The food here is TO DIE FOR. We were between here and another place and I'm so glad we picked this spot. First off, excellent service. Our server, Krista, was so sweet and friendly and wow did the food come out fast. Secondly, everything was TERRIFIC. We started with the crab bisque and it was so tasty and well made. Everything was good but it was maaaaybe my favorite? Idk. Then, we had the crab cakes entree. Holy wow those crab cakes are perfect. They have some spices in them and just a wonderful, delectable flavor. As a side, we got the veggies and the corn on the cob, which made me super happy. My husband and I came here on a whim. We didn't reserve crabs, so we ordered from menu. Our server (female waitress with glass), was extremely rude. My husband soup was gritty, she said to get another soup he would be charged for two soups. She sat at one table for 14 minutes talking. She bought our food out, and mine food was cold. She debated that my plate was hot, and my food was. I ask that she heat it up. She stormed off, and another person identifying themselves as the manager bought my plate back. I expressed my experience as unpleasant and wouldn't return. She stood there and expressed the waitress reasoning and talked more. They have a full bar and the drinks were nice and strong. The service was good, with our server frequently checking on us and making sure we had what we needed. Well someone in our party ordered the medium blue crabs which were tasty and a decent size. They dump them in front of you, put a trash can next to you, and let you go to town. The rest of us ordered the land and sea, The 2 Special (double snow crab legs), garlic snow crab legs, crab cake and the pretzel with crabmeat on it. Everything was tasty and had flavor to it. I came here to order some crabs to go based on co workers recommendations. I had heard of Lestardos before but this was my first time here. The signs in the vestibule direct you which way to go if you're eating in or taking out. I wound up in the bar area which was small, narrow and completely full It was to be expected because it was about ten minutes til kick off for the Eagles v Bears wildcard game. I made my way down to the end of the bar and I don't know if it was the fact that I was wearing a blue fur coat and not an Eagles jersey but everyone stared at me as I walked through. I found myself at an empty bar stool but could not sit there because it was "reserved" for one of the employees. That was a first for me. My order was quickly taken and paid for but after that I waited in the cramped space for half an hour. I was even scolded at one point by another employee for being in the way. Judging from the yelling and comraderie of the people there, they seem to be a tight knit crew of regulars. Rarely do I feel out of place but here I felt very much so. I texted my co workers during my wait and was told it was a different experience dining in. The dining room is separated from the bar by a large partition but I could see through it and it was filled with people who looked happy. I also saw large platters of shrimp go by that looked fantastic. I would have added that to my order but at that point I couldn't wait to just leave. I had ordered a half dozen number ones in garlic butter. I was surprised to see when I got home way more than that in my container. They were cleaned and split completely in half and tasty. I haven't had garlic crabs like that since Hard Rock Cafe's heyday in downtown Philly in the 90's. I plan to come back with friends and dine in, appropriately dressed of course ( no crab cracking in my blue fur lol ) hopefully I will feel more at home. read more

This is an average crab house compared to the one we went in Maryland. However they make a great Cajun style flounder! I loved my flounder and I ate it all! They seasoned this good! But I thought the one that Hubby ordered for himself was mediocre, the fried oyster sandwich. I wouldn't recommend this but my flounder is highly recommended! We also ordered the salad as appetizer. The salad had a lot of grated cheese. Hubby liked it but I didn't. Also, I tried the crab soup and that was the best for Hubby! We had a good service and dinner. read more

If you know, you know. If you don't know, go find out. Food, spectacular. Be sure to ask about that days signature crab dip (changes frequently). This place has the best staff. Truly family (and some friends) owned and operated and you get taken care of. Know that the ticket times in the kitchen can sometimes be long on busy nights, but also know you're not getting microwaved food. Made fresh and the taste goes to show. Best garlic crabs I've been coming here since I was 7 years old I'm now 50 food is delicious

I had to give it one star. I got the Pick 2 with little neck clams and crab with garlic sauce that I had to pay extra money for... the food came out hot and the crab cluster seemed to be fine but half of the clams did not pop open when they were boiled. Anyone that eats shellfish KNOWS that is a HUGE NO NO!! All shellfish when boiled/cooked should pop open. Otherwise it's no good. The garlic sauce was genuine garlic but it was wayyyyy too much garlic. There was so much garlic that it looked like hundreds of dots on everything. I had a weird after taste in mouth that I could not get rid of when I left for work. I had to eat stuff to get rid of the after taste. Then later when I mentioned the restaurant to co-workers they told me the issues with the restaurant. It explained a lot of my questions that I had when I visited the restaurant. Our waitress was very attentive and stopped by often to check to see if we needed anything. They were out of large steamed crabs but the medium did not disappoint! Cooked to order, the crabs came out absolutely STEAMING hot, perfectly seasoned, felt heavy and not watery and we enjoyed every last bite!! Crab bisque initially seemed to be a little heavy on the sherry but it was a perfect creamy blend with no fillers and lots of crabmeat all the way through. No additional salt, pepper, Old Bay or crackers were necessary to enhance the flavor. Well done French fries were cooked to perfection and surely hit the spot being perfectly cooked and crispy- exactly as we had hoped when we ordered. Overall, the atmosphere gave off a relaxed, family owned and operated "hometown" vibe. I like this place because it's open late on the weekdays. I was looking for some seafood and most other places close hours earlier. Great place to watch football games or have a drink at the bar. There are a handful of televisions throughout allowing you to see a screen from any seat you pick. Staff was very friendly. Many people had ordered wings and raved about them. Me, I was here for my first authentic crab cracking/eating adventure. I can definitely tell why some people feel this is therapeutic. If you come on Thursdays they clean them for free. Glad I did because I would have failed miserably on the cleaning. The crab chowder was excellent. I didn't care for the fried clams I got because it was more fried breeding than meat. Wow! Tag line of this place is "never judge a book by it's cover" So my coworkers and I all travel for work week in and week out...we always are looking for good places to eat and decided to look for a place for seafood tonight. Looking around at places, we found Lestardo's. we pull up in the parking lot and it we were a bit leary...definitely a hole in the wall look. BUT.... We walk in, the place had quite a few full tables of people with beautiful crab stacked high on the tables. Very simple, unassuming dining room. A quick run through the menu revealed a lot of wonderful seafood options but the real star of the show was the crab offerings...you pick the size of crab you want and they give you the market price for a dozen. Very good deal for the money! We got half a dozen with the most delicious roasted garlic butter ever, and the other 6 were Old Bay seasoned. The crab tasted fresh and a chat with our waitress Nicole spoke to how they are flown i fresh daily. Absolutely fantastic food if you are a seafood lover. Some of the best crab I have had ever. Definitely added to my favorites list of a place I want to revisit again! And to top it off, it is a family run business. Hats off, Lestardo's! This is a diamond in the rough out there. read more

Wow... wasn't expecting this when we did a google search of seafood restaurants near New Castle. Glad we did!! Pros: very reasonably priced and super large portions. Let me start by saying i can go here and just eat an extra large bowl of the crab soup and be satisfied but we didn't stop there. Also ordered the sautéed shrimp for the table which were tasty as well. My stuffed lobster tails were good but i didn't really like the crab stuffing. Tasted a little stale to me but my guests extra large king crabs were perfectly seasoned. Beer was super cold and the staff was extremely nice. I enjoy this place a great deal. Always friendly wait staff. I always get the sautéed garlic crabs. This past time I got the sautéed garlic Cajun crabs however, I decided I prefer just garlic. Next time I'm going to order some spicy garlic wings. I love garlic the more the better and this place doesn't skimp with the garlic in their dishes. Place is rustic/outdated and could use some updating and a decent deep cleaning. But it is a crab house so it's to be expected....but that's why I took away a star. Bathrooms needed attention. Dirty bathrooms in a restaurant always wig me out. Seems to have a family vibe as each time I went the servers/workers seems to have their family or close friends in there too. Which is nice. The restaurant can not measure the size of the crab based on a consistent standard, as these two pieces showed above are all 'Jumbo' size crab while the size difference is so obvious. The upper one is from the old bay flavor dozen I ordered, which I believe is a normal jumbo size one, while the bottom one from the Cajun flavor dozen I believe is not (as shown in the photo, the difference is obvious). My friend and I visited the restaurant together, and she ordered half a dozen medium size crab, and I order have a dozen jumbo size crab. The crab price based on the size (Jumbo $70 a dozen, large $60 a dozen, medium $50 a dozen). When the crabs arrived to our table, I noticed all of my 6 jumbo crabs are even smaller than my friend's medium crabs, so I asked my waitress to check with the kitchen whether she gave us the wrong size, but she denied immediately without checking with the kitchen and pointed me to the manager( a college age young girl). She came to our table after about 10mins, then started with the speech that they would never make any mistake with the size, the ones I got is for sure jumbo size ones. Then, I asked if that's the case why my friend's medium ones are all larger than my jumbo ones, she said occasionally jumbos are smaller than medium. WHAT? I responded that firstly I couldn't agree this is an occasional thing as all my 6 jumbo crabs are smaller than medium. Secondly, while I paid $20 more for the jumbo compared to the medium, I should rely on luck to get the crabs actually larger than medium ones? Don't they have a standard measurement for the size? SUDDENLY, the manager started to find excuse by saying maybe the kitchen gave my friend the Large size instead of Medium by mistake, so you feel your Jumbo crabs are smaller than the Large size. WHAT? While I complained that they served me the wrong smaller size, she said they would never made a mistake, but then she said my friend was given large size instead of medium by mistake? The only compensation she offered finally is to give me 20% for the crabs, ($70*0.8=$56) still more expensive than the medium ones $50 while I got the ones even smaller than medium and accused me as a unreasonable customer... I then ordered another 3 jumbo old bay crabs as I wanted to see this time what size they would actually give me, then I got the right size this time, as shown in the first photo, the upper larger one. Then I showed the obvious difference to the manager, she still insisted they are all jumbo size ones.... CAN'T Believe it! I have been a loyal customer to this restaurant for more than 5 years, really disappointed when I was treated like this. Ruined my whole night and the argument we had scared my friend's little baby causing him cried. Feel so sorry for the baby... read more

When a group of my co-workers mentioned this dive bar was now open on Fridays for lunch and they had a buck burger special I was sold! Upon entry the place was dark and empty aside from a few straggly looking fellas at the bar. Not to be deterred we chose a center table covered in brown butcher paper. The tables were also accessorized with a dollar store roll of paper towels and plastic waste basket, nifty! Perusing the drink menu the Crab Relaxer caught my eye so I asked the bartender/waitress what it was. She responded she wasn't sure because it wasn't ordered much and had to refer back to her book at the bar. Turned out it has coconut rum, pineapple, grenadine and another rum in it and it is the perfect delicious fruity, wish I was on the beach drink! Of course we ordered the dollar burgers and since it's got crab house in the name, the crab dip starter. The cheese burgers do not come with anything so we also ordered a side of fries. The dip came out first with thick chips that were more chewy then crisp. The dip had a nice amount of crab meat but seemed to be on the watery side. The fries made a better vessel for the dip over the chips. The burgers had a nice char-grilled taste and were infinitely better than a fast food chain. My co-workers have since went back without me and said glimpses of the dirty bathrooms and kitchen have turned them off to ordering food in the future but they would not be opposed to going for drinks. I had no adverse effects from the burger and didn't glimpse the kitchen or bathroom ugliness so I plan to go back and try the all you can eat crabs one night. read more

We were very optimistic going in but left disappointed. As first time customers we did not know reservations were needed but were told we could be seated. We were sat at a table and nobody even bothered to bring water or take a drink order for probably 45 minutes. When someone finally took our order we waited probably another 30 minutes for the appetizers then 15 minutes more for our entrees. In all we spent just under two hours at the restaurant. Regarding the food... the queso dip and chips were pretty good, the crab bisque was outstanding. Unfortunately, our entrees were terrible. My daughter's shrimp platter had five very small shrimp and we just stared at it in disbelief. My crab cakes looked liked the kind of packaged crab cakes you find in the grocery store but darker and drier and tasted/looked like they were made only from claw meat. Honestly, they were probably the worst crab cakes I have ever had. I felt like I had just been ripped off for the price of the platters after I paid the $60+ bill (inc. tip). The only thing I will say is that most customers were ordering whole crabs and seemed to be enjoying them, so perhaps that is what they do best. But we don't eat crabs like that so probably will not be going back. read more

Well, they are pricey but I don't mind if I'm going to get heavy meaty crabs. What I got was blue crabs with very little meat. I got them to go so I was too far away to return them. Sunday is the shrimps day. 30 shrimps For $14.99 and can be cooked with different options: deep fry, scampi, buffalo or steamed. Please please try the buffalo sauce shrimps, let me know if you are not hooked immediately. The taste is so rich and flavorful. I ordered the large size crabs and it's great.
