I was quoted $461 for a four wheel alignment on a Mercedes SUV. WHAT??!!! Never in my life have I ever paid that much for an alignment for any vehicle. And I've owned numerous high-end vehicles. To put this into perspective, Mercedes stealerships typically charge $220 and that's obviously still high, but to be expected for a dealership. This local independent shop wants to charge more than double Mercedes? I was hoping to find a highly rated independent shop to handle the less critical needs of my 3 Mercedes. I highly recommend Rick and his team at Chesapeake Import Service. Destiny, the receptionist, was extremely pleasant! I put in an appointment online and she reached out immediately! She scheduled the appointment and received a number of reminders which is great! Rick checked in frequently with his customers in the waiting area and provided updates on my car. When I went in for a battery, I noticed they had topped off my wiper fluid! Upon bringing my car around, he noticed something was amiss with the driver's window. Immediately, he drove my car back to the shop and fixed the problem. Follow-ups after the visit were also greatly appreciated and did not go unnoticed! I brought my VW in here based on the quality of the reviews, and as far as I can tell they're well earned. The folks here were communicative and easy to work with, went beyond the first level diagnostic and spotted a problem I might have missed otherwise, and were open with me about the options and costs and what might make sense. My second visit to the shop. Overall an honest mechanic shop with fair pricing and knowledgeable technicians! A theme is the presence of above average communication from the service manager and good use of tech via phone text to conveniently share analytics and estimates for work. After 3 weeks, no issues and the vehicle is running great. The only hiccup was the lack of awareness to the fact that the spark plugs were just replaced 6 months ago, and that job came up as a 'recommended item'. Once I pointed that out, some further research was completed and we got back on track for the regular maintenance tasks at hand. read more

I have been going to Chesapeake Imports for years after a friend recommended them to me. During the pandemic I was impressed with the special accommodations they made to insure the customer's safety as well as their staff. Recently I went in for an oil change. While I waited, I heard a new employee, Frank, talking to the owner, to other technicians, and his conversations on the phone. These conversations reflected a gentleman who was not only knowledgable but who knew how to deal with people. When my Honda was ready, Frank pointed out some other issues that might present problems down the road.These issues weren't new to me, but Frank was so thorough in his explanation that I scheduled a second visit to correct these problems. Later I found out that he had been at Chesapeake Imports for only eight days. Incredible. Another employee, Sherry, who handled phone calls and so many other duties, displayed a professionalism and thoughtfulness which was so special. Sherry is the first person to greet the public so it is important that this first impression be favorable. It was to everyone who came through the door. I must have done something very wrong to them in a former life. Was wanting to find a place near my home I could trust to work on my Land Rover. Was tired of going to the dealer down Rt. 50. I thought letting them change the oil would be a good start. I had to wait a week for an appointment but that's fine. Dropped it off at 10:30 am. By 4:15pm I'd not heard anything so I called. I should not have to call to check on the status. The vehicle had not been touched but they could probably perform the service the next day. I said I needed the vehicle by noon. Was told that should not be a problem. At 11:45 I decided to drop in and my vehicle had not been touched. I asked for the keys. Never to return. I understand shops can get busy but the lack of communication and two days to change oil? read more

It seems like I'm always looking for a good mechanic. You know the one that will tell you what the real problem is, and how to most cost-effectively fix it. I think I've found my new go to! After a recommendation at work, I decided to give them a try. We had just been told that we needed a new transmission from another shop and in the same breath the other shop said to just sell them the car and get a new one. Red flag. So we took it to Chesapeake. Jessica was very friendly and seemed to be really knowledgeable. They were able to diagnose the problem (not a new transmission) and fixed it reasonably and I trust that the problem is what they said it was, they road tested it 3 times to make sure! My only complaint: I had to call several times to get an update, it seemed like they were a bit busy and didn't really have a handle on the "keeping the client informed" aspect. But they didn't make me feel like i was annoying when I called and they delivered as promised. read more

After an online search and some research, I made an appointment to bring my car to get an issue checked. The problem persisted and the car became, well, not safe to drive. They were able to get the car in and take a look at it when they had a free moment. Luckily I could leave it, seeing as I couldn't really drive it anyway. They were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They went through my extended warranty, were familiar with what was covered, and placed my mind at ease. When I got the call that they diagnosed the problem, my stomach dropped - cars have never been so fair to my psyche. I cannot believe that they found the fix and didn't go forward with a runaround on some over-priced problem. It was a straight fix and I couldn't have been happier. Once I picked it up and drove out on the highway, it for the first time in the year that I owned it, really drove like a BMW. When I picked it up, she went over my warrantee, we discussed what was covered, what wasn't, etc. I've never been to a shop that was so forthcoming and offered great advice. Further, no one has ever taken the time to go over an extended warranty. As far as I'm concerned, I would not think about going anywhere else to service a European car. Oh and the New Customer Info Packet - they hooked up a koozie - enough said. read more

Chesapeake Import is a 5 star Mercedes Benz service center. My most recent service experience says it all. I damaged the interior trunk lamp on my S550. I purchased the replacement lamp from a local dealer. I stopped by Chesapeake Import on my way home and to my surprise the owner installed the lamp free of charge. Steer clear of Chesapeake Import Services! On 11/2/16 I took my car in for an oil change and had previously explained to Jesica( who BTW is very knowledgable when it comes to al things cars) that my BMW idiot light had come on "needs service" and that my check engine light had come on. While I was there, Chris said I should have my tires rotated. I said sure. The cost $209.65. Those of you who might be aghast or have heartburn take heed. But I did not. I am not complaining about the cost. What I am complaining about and why I Strongly suggest that you steer clear is the way that they, and specifically Chris, one of the owners treats their customers. Please see the prior posts above that detail other customers terrible experiences with him: Bob F describes him as being "dismissive", "not helpful". " Didn't listen to the customer".... Max P: notes Chris was RUDE to their customers. Chris has " A TERRIBLE temper". Well, that was my experience with him. Service light and check engine light on when I brought the vehicle in to them for service. Service light and check engine light on after I got a mile down the road after their service. I immediately called Jessica and she said come back next day and they would take care of it. Took off work and brought the car back at her suggestion. Chris was behind the desk when Jessica mentioned that the light may be on due for a "brake fluid service". I said first time anyone mentioned that. Jessica: It's on the notes on your invoice. Me: well no one verbally told me that when I was here. Chris: Yes I did. ! Gets indignant, confrontational, shoves me keys at me and tells me he is not going to check the problem and that I can take my business elsewhere and that he has NO Problem with losing me as a customer. With his attitude and the customer complaints I am surprized if there is any lenghthy client loyalty for this business. They certainly need to learn how to treat their customers. Very thorough analysis and service but expect to pay dealer prices. BMW parts vs after market (with prices to match) and labor rates just about the same as the dealer. First thing you are told is it will be $200 for anlaysis with their super duper fault code reader - expected I would pay this if I did not have the work done, but these folks charge you for both the analysis and the repair. Bottom line was over $1300 for a fuel pump that my regular mechanic would have charged me about $900 for - albeit it with after market parts. read more

I just relocated to the area and needed to find a good foreign auto service for my Audi A-6. After some research I took my Audi to Chesapeake Import Service. My first experience was very positive. From making the appointment with Jessica, to discussing the problem & solution with 2 mechanics. My car was repaired on time and under the estimate I was provided over the telephone. While working on my car, the mechanics noticed small items which needed attention, and fixed these with charge. They also notice a more significant issue with my car's front end and reported it to me with a full estimate for future consideration. I plan to return to have the front end work done very soon. I am very confident that my next service visit will be as positive as my first. Chesapeake Import Service is exactly the foreign auto service I was seeking. "Stay away! First visit was to fix my air suspension and they fixed it. Car leaked after a heavy rain. CIS said it was a door vapor seal so they "fixed" it. The next heavy rain it leaked again. I found out that it was because they just reattached the vapor seal instead of replacing it. Considering the labor was 4 times the price of the seal it was stupid for them not to just replace it. They gave me a small discount to do the job again in addition to the price of the seal. Later there was a rattle in the back of my car so I had them check it when I was in for scheduled service. They said they fixed it but the rattle came back. I removed panels and the spare to find a component of my air suspension loose with electrical tape and foam packing around it. I removed the tape and foam, found the tab that attached the component to the chassis and no more rattle. CIS was kind enough to refund me the $60 they charged me to tape and foam my car. It appears that my first visit was the cause of this problem because no one else accessed the area where this particular component is located. The final blow was a cold idling problem. For years, I reported it and they could not figure out the cause. Over the years CIS had replaced all of the major gaskets was quite expense for my V8. I started to review online forums and identified several causes. I called CIS and they said that they already addressed all of the causes I found. The service coordinator said it might be lifter bleed down which would be too expensive to fix. I looked up lifter bleed down and it didn't appear to have anything to do with the problem. I finally went to the local BMW dealership for a second opinion. They did test that blew smoke through my engine and found that all three gaskets CIS replaced were leaking and two nuts were missing from one of my headers! I called CIS, told the service coordinator the problem and asked for them to reinstall the gaskets they installed because they were leaking. The next moment I was talking to Chris and he was upset. He told me that he was tired of me wasting their time with my stupid questions. He said that if he did this work it would be the last work he does for me and, if I like BMW I should stay at BMW. I was amazed at how upset he was with me. I can't believe that I gave them the benefit of the doubt on so many occasions. In short, if you are a happy CIS customer, you are missing something." read more

Had an overheating issue with my car. $600 later, the owner Chris told me that the issue was fixed. Drove the car for 30 minutes at which time an over-tightened coolant return hose broke the plastic housing it was attached to and discharged all of the coolant. Had car towed to local auto shop which informed me that there was at least 1 blown head gasket. Repair would cost over $3000. Called Chesapeake Imports and explained but they would only agree to pay for a tow, not fix the issue. BOTTOM LINE: I DIDN'T PAY $600 TO HAVE A $3,000 PROBLEM. I don't have any other experience with Chesapeake Imports and therefore can only say that if this is a rare mistake, the least they should do as a reputable shop is take accountability for it and help the customer. All I asked was for the cost of service (not parts) refunded, $400, which they wouldn't do for me. Peanuts when you compare it to my $3,000 additional cost to fix the problem which was caused by Chesapeake Imports. read more
