My 2011 Tundra 5.7L iForce was making a loud whirring sound (Anthony at Goss Garage said it was sounding like a jet engine...yeah, it was). I had visions of transmission replacement and my savings being depleted. So I dropped my green monster off on this past Tuesday, and they gave me a nice Honda Accord loaner. They called me yesterday evening to tell me it was merely the fan clutch. Said the part was on order. It must have come in express, because they called around noon today to say it was ready. My wife and I have taken both of our cars to Goss in Crofton for years. Thousands spent. Always trusted them. But after our last experience, we'll never be back. Goss quoted me $993 to replace what they claimed was a bad headlight assembly. They listed the part alone at $619. Before approving anything, I asked two very standard, very basic questions: 1. "What is the part number for this $619 headlight assembly?" Melissa told me, "Unfortunately we don't get that until the part arrives." This makes no sense. A shop cannot order a part without knowing the part number first. Big red flag. 2. "How much is the markup on that part?" Melissa said, "Unfortunately I don't have access to that information." Again -- impossible. Every shop sees cost vs retail in their system. It's how parts are priced. Another big red flag. Both responses were evasive and dishonest, and no reputable shop would answer those two questions that way. I took the car to another mechanic (Ron at the Mobil station on 301) for a second opinion. He found the REAL issue was simply a melted connector--extremely common with older cars. He replaced the connector and bulb for $113 and everything works fine now. I saw the owner of Goss respond to another negative review by comparing Goss to a steakhouse and talking about their "warranty." Warranties and steaks have nothing to do with overpricing and refusing to disclose basic information like part numbers and markup -- information every legitimate auto shop can provide instantly. I'm fine with paying steakhouse prices if that's what I ordered, but not if the restaurant can't even tell me what cut of meat they're serving! Bottom line: --Goss tried to sell me a $993 repair that wasn't necessary --Goss refused to disclose part number or markup when directly asked --Another shop fixed the real issue for $113 The upselling is off-putting, but the lack of transparency around parts is inexcusable. We will not be returning, and I'd strongly recommend getting a second opinion before approving any work here. read more

I had some noise coming from my wheels. They diagnosed it and explained things so that had a good understanding of what they did to fix the issue. Staff were very professional, personable and respectful. And I received a thank you card in the mail. Very nice personal touches that go along way with earning my business. Do not recommend taking your car here. They will try to overcharge you. Took my car in to get my A/C fixed and figured they would do a recharge, they wanted to charge $250 to check for any leaks and $500 for the refrigerant. Went to Autozone and bought the refrigerant my car needed for only $100. read more

No pressure and very thorough. They did a very good job with my car and I would definitely come back in the future (will come back). I got a free shuttle back to my house while they worked on the car and could've gotten one back if I needed it. The staff was friendly and efficient, and at the end of the day I feel I got what I needed without feeling over charged or cheated. My tire was 2lb low after it got cold out. I decided to tap it off so the sensor light would stop flashing. Went to Royal Farms for free air and although their hose looked to be working, it was actually letting air out at another point in the hose. After noticing too late and attempting again foolishly, my tire was now critically low. I saw Goss Garage (which I recalled from a radio show) next door and hoped they were open. Went into the desk and with a smile the desk attendant had a mechanic pop out and fill my tire to the correct pressure in just seconds! I was so relived! UPDATE Nov 2019 I was back at Goss Garage II today. First I have to gush a little. Pat Goss of Maryland Public Television Motorweek fame stopped in and I got the chance to speak with him. What a true gentleman. The same customer service focus exhibited Anthony Weber who runs the Goss Garage II shop here in Gambrills is clearly inherent in Mr. Goss. What a true pleasure for to meet someone who is every bit the person they come across as in media. What brought me to Goss Garage II was an exhaust repair necessary before we can responsibly sell a car. We got a solid estimate late last week and took the car home while parts were shipping. This morning the shop was busy. My appointment was honored and the car was on the lift in just a few minutes. Good service, personable staff, great assistance from the free shuttle (to my nearby in-laws, not home to Annapolis) meet all the same exemplary standards I have come to expect from Goss Garage II. While I was in the shop another customer who lives in Edgewater was also there. For people like us to drive so far for something as ubiquitous as automotive service should be a very clear message that Goss Garage II is someplace special. Previous review: My wife commutes between Annapolis and DC. Her car, especially the suspension takes a bit of a beating from potholes. She noticed a new noise and wanted to be sure a wheel wasn't going to fall off. *grin* Set up an appointment at Goss' Garage II for the car to be looked at and drove up to Gambrills from Annapolis this morning. As usual, customer service was exemplary. I finally used their bathroom and it is clean. For that matter the shop floor is cleaner than many shop's bathroom! A clean work space is part of doing good work. I've written before about the work quality here. None of that has changed. First rate. What I would like to recognize today is the respect the staff--all of them--have for the customers and our cars. They understand the impact of not having a working vehicle on our lives. They treat every job with a sense of urgency to get the car back as quickly as possible. Brought one of our Traverses in because the brakes were going. Great experience all around. Very friendly. They were able to accommodate us the very next day. They were honest about how we didn't necessarily need the front ones done right away, but we figured might as well do it all at once. We mentioned we were on Spring Break because we are teachers, and they gave us a teacher discount! Got to love that. Would absolutely use them in the future for additional car needs. read more

I've visited this place twice so far and both times, service was spectacular!! The first time I visited a few weeks ago for an oil change with my 5 year old. While we waited, they asked if we wanted a drink. They had coffee and water available. They even allowed my daughter to watch cartoons on Netflix!! I loved that they did this because my daughter wasn't nagging me out of boredom and was able to watch her favorite shows. My second visit was today. I guess they were celebrating or something but they were eating pizza when I walked in. They even offered me a slice lol. It took a few hours for my car to get serviced so they offered a shuttle ride to my home. When I received my estimate, they made sure I UNDERSTOOD what needed to be replaced. Cuz I have NO idea about cars. I asked a lot of questions and not once did they seem to be annoyed by that. I agreed to the service, when I came to pick up my car, the had a diagram printed out for me and showed me the exact piece that they replaced and HOW it works and what was causing the noise my car was making. They get bonus points for this because I'm a visual person so that diagram was extremely helpful. The workers here are so attentive and friendly. They do their job well and they don't seem like a company that will get over on you. I'm so glad that I've found this place by my house. Oh I forgot! They had donuts from a place called something Prune donuts that's close by and they offered me a donut which I accepted because they sound delicious!! Bottom Line Up Front: Goss's Garage II in Gambrills has great customer service, but it will likely come at a cost. For anyone thinking about having a safety inspection done at this garage (or any other work for that matter): 1. There are cheaper places to go if you have some time to check GOOGLE or call around. 2. If you choose Goss's Garage II in Gambrills, you are likely to be charged more for work done, or in my case below, charged for additional work NOT required. The mechanic doing the service was either inept, or trying to work the system for extra cash. Narrative: I was looking to find a vehicle inspection station near Crofton, MD that would do an inspection the same week. Many of the nearby stations could not do the inspection the same week so I elected to go with Goss's Garage II...although my family has had a bad experience in the past and has been using other service providers since. The average price for a vehicle inspection in MD is $80 (Google) but this service station charges $100. The mechanic said they were actually cheaper than many local stations, but in calling 3 others, and checking the internet before arriving, its just not true. I couldn't find anyone priced higher, and two of the three I called were cheaper. Later that morning, Goss's called to tell me the vehicle failed for a parking light, and to fix it, they would charge 1/2 hour service at $55, but anyone that knows about the Jeep Cherokee XJ model understands that it takes 5 minutes or less to remove the phillips head screws and change the parking bulb (perhaps the other 20-25 minutes pays for their lunch ) I told them to go ahead and change it, but I would not be a returning customer (probably shouldn't have said that, but the customer service rep was polite despite my comment). They called me back to say the mechanic tried two new bulbs and it still wasn't working, which would require electrical testing to identify the issue. (Read: MORE money). I went to the station and sure enough, it wasn't working. However, it was clear that the wires were getting power because the side light would come on when a bulb was inserted to complete the circuit. I told them I would fix it myself, and they said that since I was not satisfied with the service, they would not charge me for the inspection (again, the service rep was polite). I took it home and after a quick inspection of the bulb socket, it was VERY obvious that one of the four contacts in the bulb socket had been bent (strange). I used my car key to bend it back into position, and voila, the bulb was working. I went back to tell Goss's garage I fixed the issue and asked if they could to finish the inspection, but they again informed me they didn't feel I could be satisfied by their service, and would not complete the inspection. Message for Goss, at some point a customer will recognize when they are being scammed - fix the issue. read more

I was hearing a bad grinding noise coming from the car when I pressed on the brakes. I had taken my car to Goss' in Lanham before and had great experiences but they were booked solid. Goss II in Gambrills was able to take me and they were awesome. Mick and Melissa did a great job at the front desk!! Very polite and communicated what was wrong and what needed to be done. The rotors and pads plus some calipers were bad, and the oil needed to be changed too. The mechanics are awesome. My car rides like a dream now!!! read more

I'm new to the area and heard great things about Goss'! I called first to see when I could get an oil change and was told to come right away if I could. So I went early and was glad I did because it got busy within 30 minutes! The place is clean and the service was good. My only issue is that they tried to get me to do another service that I know wasn't needed. For coming in the first time I didn't like that and if I wasn't someone who knew cars I may have done it. They perform the repairs without pressuring you into things you don't need but they suggest things you might need so you are aware of possible future expenses. At first I was skeptical of all the 5-star reviews, but after having my primary vehicle's non-functioning air-conditioning system analyzed and repaired by the ASE trained mechanics at Goss's Garage in Gambrills, I am a convert. No more long drives to the dealership for me. Goss' is just down the road a bit and very much up to the task when it comes to diagnosing your automobile's problem and getting you back on the road. You are provided a comprehensive summary of what the problem is and the course of action to be taken. Your are also provided a written estimate of the cost of repairs. Everyone you speak with there is courteous, knowledgeable and focused on providing you with the best car-repair experience. Discounts? Yup. Shuttle service? Yup. You even get a coupon for a complementary car wash right next door! What's not to like? I was so pleased with the work and the way I was treated, I left my truck there to be worked on and drove home in air-conditioned comfort. I've been going to Goss' Garage for over 30 years. They are the only shop that I would allow to work on my 1989 Mazda MX6 GT Turbo. I am very picky about my vehicles and Pat's team always showed the same care and attention to detail that I do. I owned the car for 20 years, and when I finally sold it, it still ran and performed as good as the day I bought it. The fella who purchased it couldn't believe the condition and performance. During that time I moved to New Jersey (1992), and other than oil changes I always drove back to Maryland to have Pat and his team maintain my baby. I have followed their service recommendations all these years and am convinced that is the primary reason it lasted so long. You can go someplace else that is cheaper, but you will be hard pressed to find a more competent and trustworthy shop. I remember when my Turbo finally needed to be rebuilt and when Pat told me he was amazed at how many miles it had lasted, and that he had never seen one last so long. I reminded him that I had simply followed his advice on how to treat it and let it cool down before I shut off my engine! I now own a 2008 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE Coupe and even though my work schedule prevents me from driving to Maryland for my routine service, I continue to follow their recommended service intervals (over and above what the manual calls for) at the dealership where I purchased it. I am due to have a complete check up and will be making the trip to Maryland so I can be sure of the condition and what it may need. I recently upgraded my exhaust system to a Borla performance system and decided to make the trip to their new location in Gambrills to have it installed. As usual I was extremely pleased with the quality of the work performed. i knew Anthony from the original shop (Car World) who now runs the new shop in Gambrills. He is an extremely competent mechanic as are the crew who work for him. After I arrived, it didn't take me long to realize that my car was once again in good hands and I left very happy with a big smile on my face! Working with Goss's Garage was a great experience. I don't live in the Crofton area but my car overheated while I was visiting. I was unable to drive it to my usual mechanic so I looked them up and saw they had great reviews. I dropped it off and they had diagnostics done and an estimate to me same day. Because it ended up needing major work I did opt to have it towed to my regular mechanic but loved the service I received. The diagnostics fee was minimal and there was no pressure to get service there, just a quality inspection done and great customer service from Mick and the front office person who checked me in. I've been going to this shop for about a year for oil changes and everything was fine. I've run into Anthony a few times and he seems like a super nice guy. Their receptionist is also very nice and always has a stellar attitude when dealing customers. It seems like over time the shop has gotten nit picky and even borderline annoying with additional recommended work every time I come in for an oil change. Replace this, clean that. Just non essential stuff. This last oil change they wanted to replace the rear break pads for a total of $1300 bucks. Their exact words over the phone, not mine. They were courteous enough to give me a printed copy of the work needed to be done. To my surprise half of it was a bunch of non emergent stuff. Transmission flush? No thanks. Refurbish rotors? Nope. Don't tell me I need "new brakes" and then up sell me all this stuff. Parts in the invoice were extremely overpriced and combined with absurd labor cost left with a sour taste in my mouth. So I replaced my pads with my brother for 50 bucks. Listen, this ain't a bad shop but at this point you're just cookie cutter, not standing out from the rest. And I'm a money guy, I go where my money can stretch. If you want customer service this is a great place I can't say enough about how nice they are but I'm the type of dude that will deal with an A-hole if he's cheap and honest. For the past 8 years I've taken all my vehicles to Goss in Lanham and they've taken care of every single repair, mechanical and preventative maintenance issue to my satisfaction. So I have gone in here a few times to give them a shot. Every time leaving there disappointed and not using them for the work. They are generally over priced and talk to people like they have no idea what they are talking about. I recently called to get an estimate on how much it would cost to have some work performed and was informed that they needed to see the car before they would give me a quote. This reminded me of the time I went in and told them I wanted to see when they could perform a suspension over haul for my vehicle and how much it would cost. I told them I wanted all suspension parts replaced. They told me the same thing. That the vehicle needed to come in and they would put it o the rack and tell me what it needed. I told them I wanted to do it all even if it didn't need it. Look I am not some person who doesn't know his way around a car. I used to work as a mechanic and usually before I take my car someplace I do it myself if I have the time and tools. So when I call you I usually know how many book hours the job is going to be, price of the parts and have already diagnosed it. Just give me your price. It's simple. I am not going to bring my car into you for you to charge me a fee to tell me what is wrong with it then give me a price to fix it way above everyone else. Not how you should do business. So I gave them yet another shot because of location to my residence and called to ask them about replacing a water pump. I was informed they don't give a quote over the phone, and was advised that they don't even work on my German car. Lol what a joke. How can anyone take a car to a mechanic who isn't comfortable working on a water pump on any brand of car. I ended up doing it in my parking lot at my own house and they won't touch it. Warning do not go to this shop this is one of those shops you hear about where they try to double charge you for parts and take advantage of people who don't know any better be careful and make sure you pay attention to everything they told me my hoses were leaking and they actually we're not they also try to charge me $45 for antifreeze which runs for about $15 please be careful and pay attention to the email receipt that they send you they are really nice but it's all a ruse to take advantage of you. read more
