Last review was 8 years ago when the Edgewater location first opened. Recently needed major repair and just like my prior experience service was excellent. Service professionals were knowledgeable, professional, and kept me very well informed. Especially happy with the drop off and pick up service they provided. The business has grown substantially which is a clear indication that other customers are as satisfied I. Hats off to Clinton who could not have been nicer and more accommodating and he certainly is an asset to the Neely staff. First, I want to start by saying I don't like having to do this b/c I have used Nealeys for a long time but overall, I'm very frustrated. I brought my Black Ram in for service about 2 months ago to have brakes all re-done and inspection red flags fixed (roughly $4500). After getting the truck back, it was severely shaking and idling very hard along with immediately misfiring when leaving the parking lot. I returned the truck believing that the inspection work I did not have done initially would help clear up any further issues, so I had them complete the remaining inspection red flags ($5500). To my surprise, this was the beginning of a month-long situation of working on the truck and trying to diagnose issue after issue to ultimately not fix the problems it was brought in for. On top of that I was told I needed to purchase axel extenders for the truck to ride better and replace the sway bar. After I spent the $900 on extenders, they installed and the truck was still shaking badly. Finally, I got the truck back and still no resolution to my issues. So, after 10K spent on a truck worth about 9K, I'm in an even worse situation than I was before but now down $10K. Customer service is and has always been great, no issues at all. In fact, I believe they were trying their best but giving me the truck back 3 different times to have me return it 3 different times for same issues, was infuriating. after a appointment mix up, got in monday to get 4 new tires put on and an alignment done. Price wise was average for the work, only took 1 1/2 hours to get everything done. Right after had a 12 hour trip down to visit my mom for the holidays and no problems came up so everything worked out great. Great and nice staff. So next will be taking the car in for some basic needed service like flushing some systems to get ready for the new year. read more

Took it in for inspection and oil change. They (admitted) they put in a quart and a half too much oil. Major issues including flooded plugs and timing belt. Have to replace it all ourselves because there is zero chance we will go back there. Not even for the reinspection. Stay away from this place. read more

I brought my vehicle due to a TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) warning light showing on my dashboard. Owings Location. 1. Misrepresentation of vehicle condition (claiming seized calipers). 2. False information (claiming TPMS work had been completed when it had not). 3. Deceptive business practices (attempting to sell unnecessary repairs). 4. Breach of trust and professional integrity. Inspection Report:I received an inspection via email, which stated that the two front TPMS sensors were not functioning. o I received a phone call from Sarah, who recommended replacing both front TPMS sensors and suggested replacing the rear ones as well, when the front TPMS are not working the back TPMS are not far behind. o I later received a call & email regarding the bumper to bumper inspection, stating a seized caliper and heavily worn pads and rotors. o Per the technician Cailen Moyihan, the front brake caliper(s) Urgent: one or more caliper(s) were seized, and replacement of pads, rotors, and calipers was "urgent." o Sarah quoted a repair estimate of approximately $1,749, stating that all parts were in stock. * 9:09 AM (Day of Service): Received a text from Sarah stating the vehicle was still in the shop and not ready for pickup. * 10:50 AM: Another message from Sarah stating the same -- the vehicle was still in the shop and was not ready. * That evening, I called Sarah to request to pick up the vehicle the next morning. She confirmed that it would be no problem. * Next Morning: o Upon arrival, Sarah told me the vehicle was not ready. o I left and called back shortly after to inquire about what had been completed. o Sarah placed me on hold to ask the technician. o She returned and said the TPMS had been completed, and they were moving forward with the brake repairs. o I immediately told her to stop all any further work on the vehicle and that I would come to pick it up. * While still on the phone: o Sarah put me on hold again, and then the mechanic came on the line. o He apologized for the confusion, and I asked him what had been completed on the vehicle, he said he would have to ask the tech, the mechanic came back on the phone and said that nothing had been done to the vehicle. o This contradicted Sarah's earlier claim that the TPMS was completed. o Therefore, Sarah misrepresented the status of the repairs. * I later received voicemail from Sarah expressing "concern" about my brake system -- after lying about completed work. * These communications were manipulative and inappropriate. Based on the shop's claim of seized brake calipers, * I had the vehicle inspected by two separate independent mechanical shops. I needed to make sure I received two inspections to confirm the calipers were not seized and they did not need replacement. * Both shops confirmed: o No signs of seized brake calipers or in need of replacement * Front Brake System * Finding: * Front Brake System - Pads, Rotors & Calipers Urgent: Seized Front Brake Caliper Detected We found that your front brake pads and rotors are heavily worn, and more importantly, one or more of your front calipers are seized. The caliper is the part that presses the pads against the rotor to stop your vehicle. When it seizes, it can cause the brakes to drag, overheat, or even lock up--severely affecting your ability to stop safely. This issue leads to rapid and uneven brake wear, vibrations, pulling while braking, and potential damage to other components. If left unchecked, it can cause complete brake failure or result in extremely costly repairs down the line. To restore full braking performance and safety, we recommend replacing the front pads, rotors, and calipers immediately. Please see attached video read more

I had a situation with a tire that was destroyed. I looked around and came upon Nealey. From my calling to the car being towed and repaired, I had a fantastic experience. Went to have a Maryland State Inspection. Bad feeling at drop off when sales rep told me they'd let me know when they found what needed to be fixed. Failed my vehicle for multiple things, wanted almost $1500 to "fix" the problems so it would pass. Thought it was odd that one of the things they wanted to fix was replaced less than a month prior, so I took my car to the dealership in Annapolis for a second opinion. Fellow women, don't waste your time here. They will severely overcharge and will attempt to rip you off. I was quoted $2000 to replace my spark plugs, ignition coils, & a handful other things they tried to add on that I never asked for. (Ex- headlight restoration for $200, my car is 19 years old, give me a break.) $1,653 was what they quoted to replace my spark plugs and ignition coils. In my opinion, that's an INSANE price. Adding unnecessary repairs of things I never asked for just to raise the total of the bill. Instead I bought the spark plugs and ignition coils on my own for $300 and replaced them myself. Although after Nealey did their inspection, I discovered my spark plugs were seized and my engine cover was stuck due to the mechanics at Nealey severely over tightening everything. I assume they thought if I was not going to pay them to fix it, they would make sure the bolts were so stuck in my car that no one could fix it. I may be a women but clearly I'm stronger and smarter than the people working at Nealey assumed me to be. Even if you do not receive services here they will still blow up your phone/email asking for reviews, so here ya go Nealey Update - Beware leaving reviews as well. The manager (Hi Colin!) will call AND text you, only to argue & call you a liar. I've never experienced something like this at ANY other business. read more

I had a noise to diagnose and what I received was an exhaustive list of proposed work my car "needed" with the mention that the noise was from the brakes. It was not! I took it back and asked if someone could ride with me and listen. This person couldn't figure out what the noise was so upon returning to the shop, in Deale, he asked a mechanic in the bay who then relayed it was the throw-out bearing in my transmission. Much later I had my car up on blocks and tested out the transmission. It was fine. Turns out the noise was the wheel bearing which needed replacing. A common occurance any mechanic should have known about especially as I described the noise and when it occurred. I've heard many bad reports from customers going to Nealey's. I've moved around a good amount and always search for a mechanic I can trust. I've found some I like, some I even really liked and was sad to move away from, but Nealey auto blows every mechanic I've ever been to away. It's a mom & pop shop and their service and their newly renovated shop is truly top notch. The inside is very nice with great chairs, wifi, coffee and water. Kenny and Devon were both the nicest people to deal with, and everything was done quickly and efficiently on my car. It really is the little things - super friendly staff, quick communication, vacuumed car, a free ride home (and back) and even digital copies of how your inspection went emailed to you as soon as it's done! Absolutely incredible and so convenient to have that + the bill in my email for future maintenance questions. The pricing was good, and I was even reminded to use a mailer I mentioned (that I almost forgot about) to save some dough. Having just moved into the area I was worried we wouldn't find a trustworthy and reliable mechanic, but Nealy's has made this a no brainer for us going forward and I'm happy to have found a go to place. read more

I had both my cars here for the MD State Inspection, and it was fantastic. Scheduling the appointments was very easy, the person I spoke with on the phone was helpful and polite. The service was above and beyond. They text you a link so you know when they've started your work and when they've finished it. Then I received an email with a document including the breakdown of the entire inspection with notes and pictures. It was unexpected but so nice to have a report to look at other than just a verbal "pass" or "fail" from the mechanic. The inspection was reasonably priced (we paid ~$90) and I would recommend this place to anyone looking to get their inspections done. read more

Responsive I had what seemed to be a rather simple problem, replace a headlight bulb. However it became important to me as I needed to do some night driving. Nealey has been my go to repair service for several years. However, they were booked several days in advance. Thankfully Scotty agreed to take the car immediately and give it a try. The bad news was that the repair manual called for a 2.5 hour job that included bumper removal to replace the headlight bulb and a charge in the vicinity of $359. Fortunately, one of the mechanics knew a workaround that involved access to the headlight from the engine compartment. A rather convoluted procedure, but it worked. The repair was completed for $70. Seems expensive for a headlight replacement, but a lot better than $350. Can't blame Nealey for a dumb headlight design. read more

Fantastic service. Everyone was so kind from the very first call! They said they'd let me know by 130 and it was barely 1030am when they sent over a report. It was easy to read and they had actual photos showing what they were talking about. They rated the items that needed attention which is helpful... especially at Christmas time. I did not end up having a service done today, but what a professional team! Today, I had dropped off my older, small SUV, to have the exhaust evaluated. When they completed their diagnostics, I was called. Due to the age of my vehicle, it would have to be a custom job & probably pricey. They already had an alternative option, another business who specialized in exhausts & had the phone # available. There was a diagnostic fee, which I knew about ahead of time. If I had the service done, the fee would be applied to the cost of my repair. With the diagnostic, I was given a detailed report, with pics. The report showed what I should address immediately, address soon or was AOK. There was serious issue, which required immediate attention. I appreciate the honesty, Charles & the technician (sorry, don't know his name) conveyed. I hear they are expanding, near my home. If I could give zero stars, I would. Towed my car there yesterday, to see what was wrong with it cause it shut off while driving. Spoke to Andy who seemed nice at first, I asked him how much for them to just look at the car he told me $168, I said ok. He called me the next day and stated that the battery was dead but it wasn't dead when the AAA driver, dropped it off which I have verified with the tow driver, anyway he proceeded to tell me that it needed a battery and that it will cost me $389 for them to put one in, and that they couldn't check the car until that was completed. I told him I will pick the car up cause who has $389 for a battery from them. He said ok then I got a text message stating that I owe them $85 for looking at my car, he charged me $85 for checking the battery....Do not go here, they are a rip offff. I pray and hope no female in his family ever would have to go to a shop and be robbed. I hope he sleep well with the bullshit he pulled today. God doesn't sleep and God don't like ugly. Do yourself a favor and don't bring your car to this shop especially if you are a female, go with a male so they don't try to get over on you as they did me. read more

Bottom line up front: this is a great shop and Scott F. is a great service advisor: competent, courteous, and responsive! My truck is 14 years old and has almost 200,000 miles on it, yet they treated it like it was a brand new car. I got a full, digital "doctor's report" about the condition of my vehicle, complete with photos and detailed descriptions with a URL link in an email. It was a little overwhelming at first because of the age and mileage of my vehicle, but like a good doctor, they clearly informed me about what needed immediate attention and what could wait. I really appreciated that, and the fact that the report was very accurate to the condition of my vehicle (other shops might tell you you need new brakes when you really have another couple of millimeters left on the pads). In the end, there was a minor service item that was performed due to an honest misunderstanding, but they were willing to work with me and ultimately refunded me for that item. AJ and many of his employees live in my community, and I love the idea that I can support an honest, hard-working team of people (and a local small business) who will treat my vehicle like their own. While this may be a relatively new small business, they're doing some quality customer-service with IT tools that many large national chains aren't doing. read more

Nealey Automotive recently bought Challenger Truck and Auto in Pasadena. Since Challenger sold I thought I would give this place a shot. They had a lot of 5 Star reviews. Unfortunately I was disappointed with their service. Though the service writers were polite, one was in training which may have added to some of the confusion about the 3 different prices I was quoted for a full synthetic oil change. Once complete I was told by the service writer that I need to change my cabin air filter which is also stated on my invoice. I told him that my vehicle does not have a cabin air filter so why would I need to change it. The service writers didn't know what to say when I told them that. That is concerning. They told me my antifreeze was a little low and recommended I do a pressure check which I declined. Since it was a little low I figured they would add some but they didn't. They also said I would get a free courtesy inspection but I didn't see any documentation stating things were inspected like brakes, battery, tires, etc,etc. I did appreciated the military discount. When I got in the car, the mechanic left the plastic seat protector and floor mat protector in the car so I had to remove that. Not sure if I would use this place again. read more

One of the best experiences I've had with a mechanic. I took my dodge charger in for a relatively straightforward problem - a check engine light for oil pressure. AJ diagnosed the bad sensor and replaced it quickly and professionally. What I was really impressed by was his inspection that he did. Normally I'd see a "free inspection" as a way to upsell more work, but AJ clearly knew what he was talking about when it came to my car. He knew with no info about that car that it had sat for quite a while and that had created some of the problems with the front brakes. He also highlighted some ways I could save some money on service in the future. I was very impressed and am excited to have a mechanic in my neighborhood I can trust. I'm a car guy, so I'm very leery of mechanics. But my Civic needed new outer CV boots and, knowing that it would take me all of two days, and would be done on a cold driveway with snowfall, I decided to see what it would cost to have someone else do it. I'd received a recommendation from a couple friends about AJ, so I gave him a call to see what he'd charge for it. I ended up e-mailing and later calling on the phone, and he returned my e-mail promptly and courteously (which seems to be a rarity for repair shops). We talked about what the car was doing, what it needed, and not only was he much less than other shops I had called, he fit me into his busy schedule. I went down there this morning, and he had the new axles and boots done in 35 minutes, then spent another 30 going over the car to make sure everything else was in order. He even made a few adjustments and tweaks while the car was in the air. We even chatted about his impressive racing career while he worked. In short, he was definitely worth the hour drive for me to get there, and I feel very comfortable in his work. I'd definitely come back to him. read more

Brake job estimate was too high. I'm sure the quality is above average, but my car is 11 years old with 180k miles. Still got lifetime brake pads, 2 year warranty on rotors for $200 less from competition less than 10 miles away. Even told the service adviser who didn't seem to care. I'd love to give a local family business my money, and would even pay more, but that's just too much. read more
