Everything was fabulous from the moment we sat down - the service, the food, the decor. We will definitely return.

With any great restaurant, you have to start with the food. The food at this restaurant is spot on! I had the Gnocchi with Gorgonzola and mushrooms to start. A very solid start as the combination was delicious and whetted the appetite nicely. From there, I moved onto the short ribs and polenta. The short ribs were tender, very well seasoned and left me filled and happy . Not one to pass on dessert, I ordered the Panna cotta with a fruit compote. A tasty treat indeed. Just sweet enough, and the fruit to complemented it wonderfully. With this meal, I sipped a Valckenberg 2020 Gewürztraminer which tasted of peach with a slight nutmeg finish. I ended the night on the large front porch sipping an old-fashioned blended with a suggested whiskey I hadn't before heard of, Ben Holiday. It was a solid choice, thanks to my server. The staff is friendly, engaging, and always ready to assist and, though not overbearing, they tend to you with expert ability. The room is small, 10 tables, 3-4 booths, and a very quiet room facing the Main Street in the town, where I was seated. I will make a return trip to Chesca's on my next visit. read more

Overall had very mixed feelings about the restaurant. The starter bread was ok nothing amazing. The beef Wellington was super delicious and I liked it a lot, but the sauce with the Wellington was too salty. The risotto was absolutely horrible. The flavor was terrible because they didn't cook out any of the spices it was just too pungent. Ans overall it was so unpleasant. The cod was cooked well and was good. I was confused by the tomato relish on top. It wasn't a bad combination but it certainly was strange. The service could have been better. Ambiance was ok. Everytime I go to Chesca's, the employees are warm, fun, and thoughtful. From the hostess, to the chef's and bartenders, Chesca's ambiance is peak. Their lamb and risotto are delicious! While I've yet to try their desserts, many people have told me they are to die for! I can't wait to visit next to try more. Also, their custom cake options are above and beyond. I had the Pappardelle Bolognese and I added meatballs and it was soooo good! I also ordered a side of Brussels Sprouts as my appetizer and they were crispy and delicious. The free warm rolls are also really good. Chesca's is my favorite restaurant on Martha's Vineyard. The atmosphere is really cool, outside in the courtyard a band was playing, and they have rocking chairs on their large porch, it's a really cool vibe. I make sure to go to Chesca's every time I'm on the Vineyard! read more

I had the Halibut entree. Loved that the sauce did not overtake the fish. My wife had the clams and angel hair pasta. What a DISAPPOINTMENT. Honestly, the whole evening was just a series of sad, annoying, and frustrating events. To start, we check in and they say they're just putting the table together....10 minutes later and we still haven't sat down. Finally sit down and order drinks. We order a a simple cocktail (think- 2 ingredients and a garnish). First time it comes out, it's straight booze. Second time, it had the wrong second ingredient. Third time, no lime. FOLKS. It is NOT that hard to make a damn vodka tonic. ANYWAY, we order food. This is what we got - Spaghetti and meatballs: holy crap, a 6-year-old could have made a better dish. No herbs. Barely any sauce. This was a pathetic dish or presentation thereof. Linguine and clams: five clams in shells otherwise just chopped clams on top. Fine dish but nothing great. Grilled rare tuna: boy, take a fantastic dish and totally mess it up. You have this beautiful nicely sliced rare tuna...to only be DOUSED in eel and wasabi sauce. Seriously folks, put some on the side, don't drown it. The warm rice cake was a nice touch to an otherwise cold dish. With the cost, you're better off going somewhere else, certainly for the food. Either poorly staffed or poorly managed. Very disappointed with my experience as this was once a family favorite. I asked for a table for five people at 6:30PM on a weeknight. The restaurant was half full/empty and were sent away with the answer of "we will be unable to seat you this evening." This was confusing to hear, as mentioned before, the restaurant was half empty (multiple five tops open) and the wait staff was seen standing around looking bored. While I would normally brush this off and find another location to eat, it was the rudeness and blatant destain shown to both myself and my family on separate occasions by the maitre d' that especially moved me to post something. Saddened to experience this at a restaurant I've recommended to friend and family multiple times over the years. read more

This place is not the same place that we've enjoyed for decades. The services terrible, you have to ask multiple times for bread, water, and your drinks arrive at the end of your meal. Halibut was dry, although my husband enjoyed the short rib. We made a reservation a month in advance, and arrived to learn that our table was occupied because the previous guest arrived 45 minutes late. Why can't management handle this? Food was average, but my main issue was with the martini I ordered. I asked for an extra dry gin martini with a twist. I received a dirty martini with an olive, so I sent it back restating my order. Second attempt arrives. This time it's a dirty martini with an olive and a twist. I send it back and describe to our waitress how an extra dry martini is made. Third attempt arrives. It's a dirty martini, no olive with a twist. I give up. It wasn't the waitresses fault, she repeated back to me what I asked for. I went with 3 others for MV Restaurant Week when they offered a 3-course dinner with some nice choices. My friends have liked this restaurant and I was happy to check it out. We arrived to find that the restaurant was not open yet for dinner and others were there too waiting for them to open. We were seated promptly along with the others who arrived before us. The staff was efficient, very experienced and friendly. The decor was comfortable and made it seem like we were seated in someone's home kitchen. I enjoyed the Crispy fried eggplant with burrata cheese for the appetizer. It was crispy and delicious. Next I had sea scallops with risotto for my entree. The dish was tasty and just enough for me to feel satisfied. For dessert they offered a strawberry rhubarb crisp with whipped cream which we all enjoyed throughly. Wow delicious meal! I'm a solo female diner (which can sometimes be awkward) and I sat at the bar and was served by Igor and Sarah (bar manager). WOW WOW WOW! I felt very welcomed and Sarah was extremely professional. I had the tuna tartare appetizer and the roasted cod entree. The food was delicous and the pacing of courses fantastic- I never felt rushed. I'll start by saying that most things on Martha's Vineyard are more expensive than average. We visited this place mostly because we had a light lunch and were hungry after a day of plane/car/ferry travels. Chesca's was just around the corner from our hotel and was just opening when we arrived. The staff was good and our sever was attentive. We had 3 dishes among our party and no one was dissatisfied with their food; I think my daughter had some leftover fish that she ate for breakfast a day or two later. My pasta was fine. The overall atmosphere is upscale but just on the borderline of fine dining. The main reason that I'm giving it 3 out of 5 is that it just didn't seem to merit the pricing. Our meal for 3, including a couple of drinks, was a bit over $150. I think I could have gotten a similar meal elsewhere for significantly less. That said, my impression of the island was that you could also find places where you'd pay significantly more as well... So depending on what you are looking for in a meal (a special occasion) or what your personal standards are for dining-out prices, this might be an okay choice. The only other slightly memorable aspect was the restroom. They direct you past the end of the bar, back to where they prep the sodas and wine. You go through a door and...you are in the lobby of an adjacent hotel. You then navigate around some another corner or two and wind up at the actual restroom. This isn't a complaint; it was just a bit unusual / unexpected. read more

My husband and I came to this restaurant for our anniversary on a Saturday night. We booked an early reservation at 5:30 pm so we could still make it to Menemsha Beach for sunset. Our waiter Slavisa was personable and attentive. He gave us a few more minutes to review the menu and brought bread and water first and then took our drink order. The drinks were well made and on par price-wise for Edgartown. I ordered a ginger and St. Germaine cocktail and my husband ordered one of their specialty Old Fashioned cocktails. We felt relaxed at dinner; we were seated by a window inside overlooking the street, excellent spot. We shared a French pressed coffee to finish and we skipped dessert because we were full. We have come before a few years ago and had the same stuffed date appetizer and a cocktail. The atmosphere was nice for our anniversary. We were relaxed and did not feel rushed and weren't waiting long for anything. It was a lovely dinner. We will be back. read more

i get the thai chili glazed salmon whenever i'm here. it's amazing. i've never had a bone in the salmon here before and the glaze is mouthwatering. of course the potatoes are spectacular. the manager is super wonderful and his staff are always polite, present, and prompt. my ONLY complaint about this restaurant is the light levels- it's often dim. but your eyes adjust after a while! plus it's much brighter if you're there when the sun is still out. read more

This is a review of the bar. I have been coming to Chesca's for years. The bar help has always been a challenge. Wine glasses have a line on them that shows where the wine should go. The bartenders chronically pour under the line. When asked to review, they argue with you. Considering the price for a glass of wine ($16-20), fill it to the line! Makes me want to avoid Chesca's. Stated in our reservation that we had a tree nut allergy and when we inquired about the pesto containing nuts the waitress was unsure and told us it would be on the side. The pesto was top of two meals. Drinks took 20 minutes and came out wrong. Then, we had to ask for bread two times before finally asking the manager who got it for us very quickly. The manager was the only one working hard. Waitress never came back to ask how we liked our food or drinks or if we needed anything else. Eeeesh this place is expensive, about $10 more than it deserves to be, especially given the quality of other places around the island. That's not the only problem though: we waited for a really long time for our dinner entrees (probably 25 minutes or so?) with barely an apology and no one checking in on us during that time, and their cocktails are all way too sweet (and again, too pricey for what they are). On the plus side, the dining room looks nice (when it's not totally packed and/or full of rich drunk frat boys), and my shrimp risotto was pretty solid. So it's not the worst place in the world, but there are loads better in the area. Note that they don't do call-aheads, and their bathroom is weirdly through the kitchen into the hotel lobby. read more

Emerson provided our party of 4 with enough background on the menu, steered us properly towards our rightful appetizer and entree selection and timed his interactions properly every time. He is the right balance of personal and welcoming without being overly intrusive. He truly made our experience what it was; memorable, enjoyable, and wanting to return. Forget the rocking chairs on the porch and the reservation. Go to the bar and let Emerson deliver the experience you are hoping for. read more

The restaurant is cute with a nice porch, has some great dishes and good service, but it's ridiculously hot. Unbearable. It's a lovely night outside but inside it's a sauna. Our party sat down and everyone remarked how hot it is. Thankfully the hostess handed each of us a fan, aka the menu. If I wasn't with other couples, we would have walked out, too many other places in town to put up with this. How has the management not gone out and bought simple fans or better yet, some inexpensive portable AC units standing up in the corner, until an HVAC expert figures out a long term solution. Food is pretty good. But who wants to eat when everyone is sweating up a storm. Doesn't make for great conversation. The short rib and snowball dessert was the hit of the night but the busgirl who refilled our ice water glasses was the star. I notice this issue was pointed out in other reviews. read more
