This little pub style restaurant is so cute and cozy. We are so glad that we tried it. It took us 4 times to finally get bar seats. We just kept walking around town and checking back in and finally we got two bar seats. My husband had the Reuben sandwich. It was big so definitely shareable. Delicious! First time in MV this weekend and came here for dinner on night 2 - very pleased! Fish tacos were fresh from the catch of the day (Haddock) , service was quick and very nice and welcoming. It was a more casual place and seemed like lots of locals coming in and talking to the bartenders and having a good time. Definitely recommend! read more

Came on a Friday night around 8 pm with a large group and sat inside. Service through the evening was fine but not great. We ordered a round of espresso martinis to start and I would really not recommend them. For dinner I ordered the cauliflower curry but the waiter came back a few minutes later to say that they didn't have it so I had to pivot. I ended up ordering the bistro salad with chicken. Chicken was good but the salad was for sure not worth ordering. Chick pot pie leaned too soupy, but the wings and pretzel were pretty good. read more

Food was of the best we had this weekend. Out and indoor seating was limited but moved quickly. Service was absolutely terrible and I went back for just drinks outside with poor service. I asked if the Brussel sprouts came with pork and the server did not know, he ignored our table, would not bring water, cleared my friends plate when his burger was in his hand, and when I said I was still eating he also took my plate before I had finished. Truly awful service but pretty good food. The patio has nice vibes and the Phil collins drink is good, skip the Paloma and old fashion weren't great. I know I went on a busy weekend but there is no excuse for such bad service. read more

This is the BEST food on the vineyard. Easily the best meal my fiancé and I have had on the vineyard after coming here for years. A bit of a hole in the wall but definitely worth the find. Cozy, historic, charming, and a menu with variety but all of the classics done the best way. My fiancé had the prime rib sandwich and I had the Atlantic salmon. Both came with brussels sprouts that were crunchy and a bit sweet, a wonderful side and a great substitute for typical fries. Service was great, staff is super kind and helpful. Love this place and will make it a priority any time we visit the vineyard again in the future. read more

The Newes was the perfect spot for a dinner with my friends this past weekend! The fireplace keeps the entire place warm and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. I got the prime rib sandwich which was fantastic and my friends got the lobster roll and chicken pot pie which they said was also very good. We also all had a few drinks and everything was great there too - I would especially recommend the espresso martini and then the cookie skillet for dessert. read more

Excellent ambiance. Service was incredibly slow - drinks came out one by one and the first were pretty much done by the time the last came out. Overall the food was great, but the cauliflower dish was lacking in flavor and a carb. Needed wild rice or something. Chicken pot pie was very good. Wings and the wedge were excellent. Desserts were great. Trying to pay was excruciatingly long lol. All that said, there was a huge party that was jamming the place up, staff was having a hard time even getting by them. Would definitely go again but probably not on stroll weekend. Also - love the lighting but please make your menu font larger and darker - it's very hard to read. Martha's Vineyard! If there's one silver lining in the horribleness that is covid is that it forced us to visit places that were more local to NYC. And this was actually the very first restaurant we visited when we arrived. DIdn't look like much from the outside (except for the longish line). I was excited to eat the oldest pub in New England. The building was erected in 1742 and def has old colonial vibes. I came during the summer of COVID and they had outdoor seating. There were some cute dogs hanging outside too. They do have indoor seating as well. They have limited-release draft beers on tap as well. I had the fish and chips for lunch. I upgraded my fries to sweet potato fires for $2. You can upgrade to truffles fries for $3 as well. The food was pretty good. If you cycle here, you can park your bike at the nearby parking lot. There isn't' really a dedicated bike parking, but you can lock your bike up to random trees. read more

Colonial vibes all around but be prepared to miss out on some of the revolutionary charm during COVID eating regulations as dining was still Outside Only when I went. One of my close friends is big on American history & was excited to try this cute little number out. Clam chowder was interesting- the bacon added in is something I'm not quite used to and found that it disrupted the creaminess of the chowder. But some people might find the random crunchiness and saltiness of bacon with every spoon as enjoyable; to each their own. The 3 cheese Mac & Cheese was amazing. Patrons beware: you need to dig to the bottom of the dish to get to the real rich creaminess of the Mac. It's a hidden surprise. Make sure to mix it up nicely when you get it! The Riesling wine was my favorite part of the meal. Couple glasses in and I was feeling great. Most importantly: the atmosphere & ambience of this old timey joint was good. Outdoor seating had us seated on a small side street where we were surrounded by the casual hustle & bustle of the Vineyard's families and guests. Located next the Kelley house this restaurant/bar is in a great location. We went just for drinks late at night. We wanted to sit outside and were told we would have to order at the bar and take our drinks out. We did just that. We ordered from the bartender and enjoying our drinks al fresco. We tried the dirty rascal and the wild blueberry sea dog. The sea dog was a beer and they added blueberries to the glass. It was a pleasant twist to drinking a beer. All the staff were friendly for the exception of the hostess. The bartender was efficient. I'm not sure if this is a dog friendly spot since they did make a patron with dogs sit at the furthest tablet in the patio. They don't have parking, but you can find street parking nearby. read more

Tomato Bisque ? - it was pureed tomatoes from a can with some pancetta thrown on top with parsley.. absolutely horrible. Salad was brown and without dressing. Was here years ago, had one of THE best fish AND chips ever! Stopped today for snacks/lunch. Kiddo had kids chicken tenders whose was dry almost burnt. Most were edible as I had to finish. One, looked like it was previously cut then fried, hopefully not off another plate. Wife had fried chicken sandwich which looked burnt and dry. Both of these came with fries which were freaking awesome! I ran breakfast smashed burger which stated came with sunny side egg. My egg was over easy/medium and no fries, lettuce or tomato. Burger was fine I ate it. No beers on tap, realize end of season. Service was slow, over heard they were short staffed. Good today was mediocre. read more

I wasn't too impressed by the patriotically named Newes. Pros: spinach artichoke dip and pulled pork sandwich and nice outdoor digs for a seasonably warm and sunny day. Cons: Caesar salad was just meh and not worth $13 and they wouldn't let me order the kids mac and cheese (on top of my adult entree) even though there was no pasta side on the menu and I wasn't about to dive into the full size which would require carting leftovers through the shops of downtown Edgartown. I understand, though, that some restaurants have policies against adults ordering off the kids' menu-- it just messed with my vibe. But honestly without that fact I would still give the place a solid 3 stars-- nothing to write home about; would def recommend trying somewhere else with outdoor seating in downtown Edgartown before resorting to Newes. read more

Very mediocre experience- I waited 15 minutes before the server even came over to greet me. I ordered a soda, it never came despite my food having been brought to the table. I had to seek someone out to ask for the drink I had previously ordered. I got a lobster roll - I was never given utensils or napkins. I had to ask for those too. The lobster roll itself was fine, the fries were not even warm (nor even a little bit) they were dry cold and stale. I let the waitress know the fries were cold and she sort of just shrugged. Didn't offer to swap mine out. Would I say this was worth the $32??? Definitely not. Would I come here again? Absolutely not. read more

Ordered the crab rangoon dip, sausage roll, caesar salad with salmon, and the fish and chips. The crab rangoon dip was totally bizarre -- I don't think they used cream cheese in it and it really tasted the least like a crab rangoon of any I've ever had. The sausage roll was good but small. The salad was overdressed but the flavor was solid. The fish and chips were also bizarre as the batter was *soft* and didn't even seem to resemble fried batter. The fish itself was good, although this was a far cry from actual fish and chips because of its weird consistency. The fish was also listed to be 12oz and that was... not as advertised. Someone call the portion police. Also, they didn't have their liquor license. Service was fine and the ambiance was cozy. read more

Stopped in for lunch one day and was very happy with our choice! Added calamari (+$7) to the caesar salad ($12) and really enjoyed the heaping pile of fried calamari. It was a great, cheaper way to have calamari instead of ordering the full priced appetizer! Clam chowder was delightful with lots of clams. Fish and chips was a huge portion of perfectly crisped haddock and fries were seasoned well with salt and pepper. Great service and cool ambiance! Old world pub feel, dark heavy wood, lower ceilings...cozy with wood fire in cool weather and outdoor seating when it is warmer. I have to say they are not the friendliest-we waited over 5 minutes before we were acknowledged and seated and we watched this happen over and over & they were not overly busy. My fish and chips were OK, just OK. I ordered them because I heard this place had a reputation for its fish and chips. But if you ask me I thought they were a bit greasy. I like seafood, any seafood. So they weren't too bad. Oh well, where this place really shines is with its extraordinary character. It's located in the basement (cellar) of the Kelly House Inn and from the looks of everything it looks to have been in operation for over 200 years. The nautical theme along with the exposed brick and wooden beams is all very very cool. The interior is exactly what one would expect an old pub to look like in the town of Edgartown, a town with a long whaling seafaring history. While there, I sort of expected Captain Ahab or Long John Silver to walk through the door any second. Unfortunately those two characters never made an appearance during my visit but I suppose there is always next time. read more
