I had no idea this place existed til a coworker of mine selected this place to go on his last-day. Such a cute, clean place to come - with an even better happy hour menu! The staff was super attentive, frequently asking if we needed anything or if our cups or plates needed to be replenished. I would love to return for some of their locally-brewed beer and IPAs as well. My wife and I were looking to try something new in Annapolis and came across Chessie's Wharf on Yelp. When we arrived, it was pretty busy. All the outdoor seating was full, and inside there was only one table available. Most of the tables are larger, so we noticed some groups sharing space, which actually worked out fine. The restaurant has a great open-air feel even indoors thanks to the large garage-style door that opens up an entire wall. For drinks, my wife ordered iced tea and I had a Peach Mule. The mule was good, but next time I'd skip the rim garnish. They also have a big beer selection, and the prices seemed very reasonable. For food, we ordered the brisket burger (single patty with cheese, topped with shaved brisket, jalapeño slaw, raw onion, pickles, and sauce). They offer a deal where you can add a side and drink for $5, so we added onion rings and also ordered the Serpent Fries as an appetizer. The fries came out first and looked great and they did not disappoint. Fresh cut with bacon, pico, scallions, and a serpent sauce (seemed like a beer cheese). Really flavorful, I did ask for ranch, which was an extra $0.50. I understand charging for extras, but not everyone uses ketchup or mustard, so that felt a little unnecessary. The burger came out shortly after, and it was excellent. We split it, and it was packed with flavor. Honestly, adding bacon would make it even better a "Triple B" (Bacon, Brisket, Burger) would be perfect. The only letdown was the onion rings. The onions inside were very thin and overcooked, leaving them dried out with little flavor. Even without the over-frying, the onions themselves just didn't have much taste. Definitely something they could improve. Overall, it's a great spot for burgers and fries, and we'll definitely be back for that. BLUF: RAR beer and bar eats like burgers and tots with minimal parking. What I love about Chessie's Wharf is that it plays on the local lore of Chessie the Sea Monster. Also, the decor is great and the tap line is long. Aside from RAR beers there are a few rotating handles with beer from "guest" breweries. But no need to venture out to guest brews, RAR has great selections. If you're not a beer drinker they also have spirits and seltzers. I'm not sure about wine but I suspect they have a few options. Foood selections are comforting and simple - mostly burgers, wings, fries, tots and salads. For slightly more special options they have a brisket burger, crab dip and a few other tantalizing selections. I'll gladly work my way through the whole menu. I love that they brand Chessie into the buns. So cute! Chessie's has bar seating and lots of community tables so introverts be aware. When the weather is nice they have a great patio. Love this place! I'm not a beer drinker at all...BUT this is a fun place to open up your pallet to the idea of bear. Their beer is different than any other beer I've had, and that's not a bad thing. They brew their own beer which makes this place more special.Their beers are lactose so they have a more creamier vibe, especially the sours. They also sell their beers in cans, which I've taken advantage of. I normally get a flight just to taste different beers to see what kind of beer I actually like. They also have regular cocktails which are pretty good (about $13-$15 each). The service has been consistent the 3-4 times I've been. Their servers and bartenders have always been friendly and helpful. The set up makes you feel like you're near a beach with all the windows and patio seating, etc. The music has also been pretty decent. The food is probably the best bar food I've had...seriously. The food is pricey...especially when their 5 $17 crab balls. The crab balls didn't really have filler at all and they were tasty, but too expensive for the quantity. Their burgers/sandwiches are smaller than a regular burger but honestly the perfect size from a business perspective, that's the case with all their serving sizes honestly. Anyways, their burger is juicy well seasoned and the crab cake sandwich is decent. The crab cake sandwich isn't the BEST crab cake sandwich I've had, but it wasn't bad. I would get the burger over the crab cake sandwich. Their Honey Old Bay wings are my favorite so far out of their wing flavors. Their wings are the perfect size and fried just right. When we arrived there was some confusion about how to get seated as there's stairs and people waiting around for tables and no real "host service". We went to the counter and surprisingly, even though there were empty tables and bar seats, we were told there's a 25min wait because "there are people ahead of you." I assure you it was not 25 min and there were not many people seated before us. in fact, more people left so this was confusing. Got drinks at the bar but children aren't allowed there and they don't have any waiting area. Just FYI. Otherwise it's a kid- and dog-friendly spot with kid menus. Also asked about the happy hour menus that were displayed on a holiday Monday. Was assured there was happy hour by the host boy, but when we ordered we were told there's host boy was wrong and they took the menus away. Ok. It's not like this was the beginning of the shift at 11am--no it's 2pm and you have to wonder if people who ordered before were able to enjoy a deal that was withheld from us specifically. The food portions were small for kids and even for the burger. Ended up ordering an extra fries just to fill us up better. The affogato martini was special and cute but a little too sweet. I think vanilla ice cream with liquor was just a little too much. Should've been adjusted with something bitter rather than the same formula as an espresso martini. Second time coming here and a great experience both times. It is a small restaurant with a small parking lot - we didn't have to wait for seats or parking this time but be prepared you may have to. There is street parking in case. My husband and I sat right at the bar on a Friday night around 7. It was crowded but there were a few seats. We each got a flight, split tots, and got burgers. There are a TON of beers on tap - definitely recommend a flight! If you've never been, RAR has really crazy sours! We each tried a few and they were all insane and delicious! They had a Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal inspired sour - amazing. Foodwise, it's a small menu but everything we got was great. The burgers are $11 for a single for $13 for a double, no side included. We split an order of cheesy tots. Everything was great - the burgers are kind of smash burger style. Our Bartender was attentive, and our food and drinks came out fast. On our way out we got a bunch of single cans to take home - I love that you don't have to get 4 of a kind! They have a TON of flavors so make sure to check that out. Overall, we had a great time, food and drinks are great. In the summer- they have a nice patio! This is a take out review. Pros: the burgers and fries were good (even after a 15 minute drive). I would rate them at 7 out of 10 which makes me imagine they would be very good fresh out of the kitchen. The restaurant is coastal cute inside and seems clean. Bathrooms were also clean. Cons: the young hostess was very unwelcoming. I didn't interact with anyone else. So IDK how the service is but I was not impressed based on my interaction with the hostess. The kids menu also kinda sucked compared to other restaurants that we've gone to. Most other kids menu (for example Blackwall) will give a kid portion side of fries and a juice or milk. Here for $9 you just get the burger and will have to buy the other things separately. Also nothing comes on the kid burger. My toddler wanted pickles on his burger and we were told that we would have to get a single adult size burger to add that (which didn't make sense for 2 slices of pickles). Verdict: I would be willing to try again if I happened to be in the area by myself. It doesn't seem like a good deal for families with younger kids. First, let me say that we were very surprised at the ratings for this place. We stopped here on our way to the Navy football stadium. When we arrived, we were greeted by a very nice young man who seated us within a few minutes although it was pretty crowded. Our waiter was Douggie and he was not only funny but had great recommendations and answered our questions with detail. He made our experience amazing. I ordered the "You Wild," wings which were a combination of BBQ and Buffalo sauce! I absolutely LOVED them! I asked for a side of sauce and it came out quickly. I also loved the painkiller drink! It was very tropical! My husband had the brisket burger and tater tots. He said both of them were absolutely amazing. It was a very lively restaurant with lots of nice Christmas decorations. We sat family style with other groups and were lucky enough to sit next to 3 people that we talked to the entire time we were there, making the experience all the better. Unfortunately, our experience started off on the wrong foot because of the young blonde host (looked around 15) who greeted us with a very unfriendly attitude. We asked for a children's menu and she refused to provide one, which was confusing and unnecessary. When my baby began crying, instead of showing patience or understanding, she appeared visibly annoyed, scoffed, and muttered something under her breath. As a parent, that made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. I do want to mention that the rest of the staff was pleasant and provided good service, which is why this review is directed at the host experience specifically. I understand everyone has bad days, but basic courtesy and professionalism go a long way, especially when dealing with families. 3.5 stars if I could. I was thrilled when RAR accounted they'd be opening a West Annapolis location a few years ago. I anxiously followed all the construction updates and visited sometime during their first couple weeks. I've since been here many times but am just getting around to typing up a review. The good: -happy hour deals! $5 core beers and pretty good food options. I'm partial to the wings & fries option. -guest taps! They've had some fun ones, but by far my favorite is when they have Lunch from Maine Beer Co. -location! Not downtown, closer to home, and walkable to another favorite, Always Ice Cream. The bad: -it's definitely more of a restaurant. With so few breweries in Annapolis I was looking forward to more of the brewery vibe. They have communal tables but there are TONS of kids and you have to wait to be seated there. Since it's server-service only at the tables it doesn't feel right to take that space if you're only coming in for a beer. -the flies. Holy moly, the flies. -the parking. Plan on finding street parking. The staff are hit or miss. Some are super friendly and some don't give you the time of day. I love love LOVE RAR. But I live in Kent Island and can't justify driving an hour to Cambridge for their draft brews. When I heard they were opening one up in Annapolis, I was so happy! I've been to Chessie's Wharf multiple times since it opened in late January and I gotta say it's always a great experience. A much quicker driver than heading to Cambridge! The staff are friendly and happy to be there, the food is always great and the beer is (as always) incredible. The interior role its namesake provides a nautical vibe that perfectly captures the location it's in. Every hour there's a wall of singing fish that will sing a song! The vibes are all around immaculate. Unfortunately I have to dock a star off although it pains me. Why? Well because as much I love this location it's incredibly small. The first time I went (over a month after it opened) it was packed. I had to wait 2hrs to be seated. It was worth it but I doubt most people will have the same amount of patience as me. Chessie's Wharf is an incredible small area with limited parking. The first time I went, I visited around 6pm on a Saturday night and it was packed the entire time with barely any room to stand. And unfortunately all the beer was tapped out that day (including guest drafts). All they had were cans for sale, which wasn't a problem especially since they offered me a chilled glass but it certainly was disheartening that the cans they had for sale were limited (RAR is a popular brewery i am unsurprised it doesn't help that they get their beer from HQ since there's no space to brew it from the location!) Every other time I go I always try to go when they open because by 1pm it remains packed pretty much the entire day. Even when I go before it opens there's usually a line of at least 10 people formed outside at least 20 mins before the doors open. Small space, parking and always packed. With it getting warmer I expect that to continue or get worse! Overall Chessie's Wharf is a great addition to the Anne Arundel County brewery scene. It's nice RAR is finally expanding beyond Dorchester county and its cans at various liquor stores in the state. I just wish that Chessie's Wharf had a bigger space and more parking. Hopefully RAR continues to expand to to the western shore and open another location in the next year or two. read more

There's a lot love about this place. First, let's talk about the BEER, food feedback at the end; There are a lot of breweries. They're not all good... then there is RAR. They made a name for themselves in the very out of the way town of Cambridge, MD and people would STILL travel hours and line up for another hour to buy the beer. It's that good. The beer is excellent. All of it. Some of the best around. Some reviews here have talked about cost, so let me put that into perspective; They have $5 pints every day! ...along with $6 and $7 options. You can sit in Annapolis and drink their very flavorful Lite offering for 5 bucks. That's not bad. The beers many come here for would be the New Englands and Fruited Sours and those are $9 pours. While it is more than I like to spend on a beer, from the source, at least it is a 16 oz pour!! You do not have to search far to find breweries giving you sad little 10-12 oz. pours for the same price. So have a couple of the high ABV pints, enjoy them, and jump to the $5/$6 options which is what you should be drinking anyway after those 9% hazys. They have flights for $10! Four different Four oz. RAR pours for 10 bucks. That is pretty good. You can sample beers that people are lining up next to you to buy in $9 to-go cans, but you get to try several different varieties fresh from the draft. And finally, in addition to a huge selection and variety of their own beer, they have a constantly rotating selection of guest taps. Usually 2 beers each from 4 different brewers. It's a different list every time I go in. They also have a full liquor menu of craft cocktails I'd like to try. I have seen many of them served, made with extreme care, and guests seem happy. With all that, it is not a surprise that this place has been packed every weekend and most weeknight evenings. It's a mixed blessing, of course. You want them to do well, but you would like to get a seat. They do have a large outdoor heated deck that is just going to keep getting better as the weather warms up. The staff is great- Management, bartenders, and servers. Very friendly and enthusiastic. If they had any opening month bumps they are constantly correcting and hiring new staff to fill in. I'm sure the popularity, while appreciated, exceeded their expectations and they would have doubled the size of this place had they known. That said, it's really beautiful inside with long community tables that make you feel like you are in a proper social beer garden. Get to know your neighbors. Enjoy it. The FOOD is all excellent but served in comically small portions. There is no getting around that. You look at the menu, you read the descriptions, your sandwich comes and you did not know they even made rolls that small. It is unfortunate, but just know that ahead of time. You are getting child sized meals but at adult quality. Look at this as a place to drink great beer with friends. The food should be something to munch on while enjoying a draft. If you come with a group as a dinner spot you may be disappointed. If cost is not an option for you, then just order extra food/sides and you'll be fine. I look at this as a place to drink that has snacks, rather than a place for food that has beer. I tried the Chessie Burger which is an excellent smash burgher. Nothing not to like but the size. Same with the Cheesesteak. I was shocked by the tiny bun, but it was stuffed full of rib eye with a unique beer cheese sauce. The loaded tots vary... sometimes they can use a little more "loading", but all good. The Fish and Chips are a unique offering to this location and were very good, if not small. The couple next to me got the lobster rolls which are listed as market price and cost $35 each. They were plump chock full of lobster, but they were turned off by the amount of food they got for the price. Buffalo wings look great. They are sold by weight so you'll get a pound of wings which seems on par, from a portion standpoint, with other pubs. My friend got the veggie burger and said it was probably the best veggie burger he's ever had. Only other nit is the servers will ask you if you want chips or side of sauce (when I asked for hot sauce for my cheesesteak) but all that is an added cost. It's not a lot, but just ask "how much" anytime someone offers to bring you something. It's okay, I know that's effort on their part I just wanted to know up front. So, by the time I added a small side of potato chips and hot sauce, my mini cheese steak was $16. I've had $16 cheese steaks that were the size of my arm. This isn't that. So, even with a couple nits up top, yes, this place is still 5 stars. How could it not be? They have no reason to increase the portion size of the food when you can't get a seat on the weekend as it is. :) Come for the beer! Everything else is just gravy on your experience. Happy to be able to come to Annapolis instead of Cambridge, it is a shorter drive from where we live. I love a good Chessie burger. The OOOs have dropped a bit to me in the flavor, but still OK. They have a bunch of different cocktails etc. The not so great: the parking is horrible. They opened at 11, got here at 11:30, and we had to find a side street to park on and walk down (this was during the week, not a weekend). The lot is pretty much half of a lot. Also, there are only long tables to seat people at besides the bar stools. It's good for every once in a while. read more

This is our favorite watering hole. The staff is really friendly, they have a great team, service is ace even when they're slammed. Orders are taken and filled really quick. Love the outdoor space and the fisherman's wharf design of the building. All the details at this joint are thoughtful, playful, and intentional. It makes for a fantastic place to hang out with friends or kick it by yourself to kill time. The craft beer selection is unmatched. RaR makes some tried and trusted beers, some of the best in the area available in draft, and on top of that the brew co. keeps an extensive rotating selection of new beer/ale creations brewed by them, plus a rotating draft/can menu that always has good picks. They are known for their IPAs and incredibly unique, diverse fruity milkshake sours. Also fun seasonal cocktails, and a wine list. I love the straightforward but actually good food menu. Great ambiance of chill and laughter. Congested but still spacious. Family friendly. You have the option to sit indoor or outdoor. A busy Thursday night but we got our meals out in time. Staff were attentive despite looking like chickens with no heads. Food was great, single patties cooked well done. My fish and chips cooked to crisp, well done. Our drafts were a combination of funk... fruity, and spice. Hubby and I also shared the foam lovers rock a draft of a coffee lover's delight. Chessie’s Wharf - Inside - Bars Near Me - Annapolis, Maryland

I'm a big fan of the affiliated RAR Brewing brewery/foodpub out in Cambridge so I put Chessie's Wharf near the top of my list of spots to check out when I heard they were expanding closer to the DC area. Chessie's Wharf just opened last month; drove up from Fairfax County in Virginia late Sunday afternoon last week to check it out. First thing I noticed was that it seemed to be in a prime location in West Annapolis within just a 5-7 minute walking distance from the Navy football stadium, which was nice. There was limited space in the parking lot, but I was able to find a spot and there is plenty of (free) street parking available on a Sunday. Upon entry, the place was smaller than I thought it would be, though was very packed for both inside and outside seating. There was a bit of a waitlist for seating but, luckily, a spot opened up at the bar after 5 minutes or so so I grabbed that. RAR Brewing is known locally for their excellent craft beers, though they're probably most well-known for their Out of Order series of sour ale (fruity sour) beers. These beers were available in abundance at Chessie's Wharf (and happen to be my favorite series of beers from RAR), so I ordered a couple pints, including the Blueberry Birthday Surprise smoothie, as well as a flight of their other flavors. The beers were all fantastic as expected. I did notice that the pricing for most of their 16oz pints was $9, which is slightly higher than their pint pricing in Cambridge. Flights of 5 of pretty much any beer you want at a smaller size are also available, though I don't recall the pricing (though remember it was reasonable). In addition to beers, RAR Brewing also has very solid pub food, in particular the popular Chessie burger, which I've for a long time felt are some of the best burgers in the D.C. area. I ordered the burger here at Chessie's and the burger was great, just like it is at the Cambridge location. Like the beer, I noticed the burger was also slightly (by maybe a $1 or so) more expensive than it is in Cambridge (was $11 just for the burger a la carte). Overall the food and drink menu they have at Chessie's Wharf is basically the same as what they have in Cambridge so if you're familiar with the selections there, they apply here as well, albeit slightly pricier it seems. (The food/drink at Chessie's Wharf and other RAR Brewing locations is a bit pricer than most other food pubs you may be used to) Chessie's Wharf has most of the other RAR beer offerings available, such as the Nanticoke Nectar and Pulp, and even has beer offerings from other popular outside breweries like 450 North and Dewey Beer Company. With that said, and as a warning, quite a few of the beers stated on their menu actually weren't available; the bartender ended up having to write down for me the list of beers available for the type I was looking for. The fact that there was only one TV for the seating inside with no TVs directly facing the bar was also slightly off-putting. Despite (minor) concerns about lack of seating space during peak hours, number of TVs, and pricing - the high-quality local craft beer and high-quality food means this spot definitely gets a recommendation from me.
