Great live music and good food and drinks at 49 West restaurant in Annapolis! When we can get down here from the Columbia MD area, we love to dine and drink and enjoy the 4-days-per-week live music at this "Coffeehouse Winebar and Gallery". This time, in April 2025, we arrived around 7pm, and found parking in a garage about a block away, though with better timing we might have parked right out front on West St. This was intentionally a little early for their 8pm live show, and we found a table in the front window, with fun people-watching, and walls lined with a gallery of local artists' works. One of the regulars suggested their generous creative 49 West Salad of fresh greens, cucumbers, tomato, and red onion, with blueberries, apples, almonds, and gorgonzola cheese! An exciting flavor experience! They also,steered us right on 49's Reuben sandwich, with traditional house-made tender juicy corned-beef and melted swiss, with house-made Russian sauce on soft marble rye, with the sauerkraut substituted at my request by house-made creamy cole-slaw. A rich delicious messy sandwich! And well-made drinks: a refreshing lemony minty fizzy Mizuwari with Baraky Japanese whiskey, and their Old Fashion 49 which includes some orange-y Grand Marnier. Both were creative strong and flavorsome takes on classics. Of course they also have a broad ranging menu, especially after 5pm. When the back room opened, we sipped our drinks (and got refills :-) while swaying to one of our favorite musicians, Tom Mitchell, playing this evening with Jim Stephanson as the talented and versatile Blue Rhythm Boys: Jazz, Western Swing, Blues and more, for a $15 cover. It was fun to hear them riff off classics and off of each other, mixing in stories and reminiscences, and this evening sweetly dedicating some to a friend's 75th (more or less) birthday. You just feel at home with them, and we do seek out Tom's performances, and then seek out his fellow musicians next gigs, too, as far off as Columbia and Rockville! A wonderful relaxing evening, with friendly efficient staff, good food, nice locals, and great music. read more

This saloon is such a quick spot to go to, for lunch or any type of the day really. I tend to stop here a lot during a lunch break or for happy hour some evenings working in the surrounding area - which I am also never disappointed. Because I've come here so often, I am not sure if it is on Thursdays specifically, but S&J's does offer karaoke during the week. Along with good food, a happy hour menu and great bartenders. On a trip to Annapolis, I stopped here to watch the Eagles game. It was very crowded with a lively atmosphere. Half of the people weren't even watching the games, so this is the type of place you can go to and have a good time whether or not you care about sports. Everyone I met was friendly and fun to talk to. The food was good too. I had the wings and a chili dog. The wings were good, but the chili dog was really good. Nice menu with a lot to choose from at reasonable prices. Service was very good. Like the saloon feel of the place with Navy and local/region sports all over the walls. Ordered the humus plate as a starter and it was great. Great texture and just the right amount of garlic. Then had an Impossible Burger with fries cool right. Went to dinner on Wednesday night for the Dining Under the Stars event. Even though I made a reservation for outdoor dining, upon arrival there were tables up against the bar that were available. We opted for those seats as it was still super hot and sunny out. The bartender was super friendly and suggested a new beer when I asked for my basoc Mich Ultra. I ended up liking it and had a couple of them. The buffalo wings were good and had decent flavor. We ordered the cheesesteak stogie rolls which were awesome. I highly recommend them. My husband had the chicken sandwich that came with crab dip on top. He enjoyed it with onion rings as am upgrade from fries. I stole a couple onion rings and really liked them. Onion rings are hitnor miss for us. I had the cold plate which was chicken salad on a bed of lettuce with crackers, tomato, cucumber and ranch dressing on the side. I wasn't the biggest fan of the chicken salad. I honestly am not sure if it was bad or if I particularly didn't like it. So I won't be too mean over it. The service was great and I definitely will be back to try some other menu items I had my eye on. Also, between 4 and 7, I believe, was happy hour and the prices were awesome! read more

"We usually love this little bar and it's always one of our first stops when we come into town. The service is typically great, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case during our visit today. We were met by a bartender who was not only rude but also seemed quite full of himself. He was dismissive to us and even more so to a couple that sat next to us. When one of the patrons tried to make small talk, he decided to share his 'pet peeve' about customers asking questions about the crowd, which was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. He also told another customer that it was 'November and out of season' for crushes, supplying them limited options, which was a strange and off-putting comment. If you happen to stop by and the bartender is a tall man with balding reddish hair (he was the only male bartender working around 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 16th), I would recommend heading elsewhere. Ok al little jaded review.. I have been traveling to the area foe work for over a decade. I had great service and food over that time. Here recently this service has done a complete nose dive. It is some of the same staff and do not blame the staff but the management. Suggest hiring additional personally to accommodate the business. An example was sitting the bar area with a party of 6 and it was 15 minutes before anyone ask us if we wanted a drink. Once we received our drinks no one returned to see if we wanted to order food. I went to the bar and paid the tab and went somewhere else. Great happy hour specials and beer selection, I like the place but and will give it one more chance before I stop going there foe dinner and drinks. read more

Warning to all consumers: the management at Stan and Joe's engages in unfair and deceptive trade practices. Recently, management decided to start charging credit card-paying customers an extra 4 percent as a "processing fee." The staff at Stan and Joe's confirmed management's unbridled avarice; the actual credit card processing fee is only 2.5 percent. The only notice of this processing fee is on a piece of computer paper taped to the mirrored wall behind the bar (see pictures). It's worth noting that the sign misleadingly says the processing fee only applies to credit cards, but the staff confirmed it also applies to debit cards. But wait, it gets worse! Management has set up the point of sale system to automatically add the 4 percent fee to every check as a "non-cash adjustment" even if the customer is paying cash! The onus is on the cash-paying customer to scrupulously check the bill and ask for it to be removed. Management is betting customers will be too inebriated to notice their little scheme. Prove them wrong and go to Ram's Head instead. read more

Stopped in for a drink after the show at Rams Head. This is a small bar that was pretty full of locals the drinks were pretty good and the price wasn't that bad for 7 of us to have a drink it was only $60+. If your ever in the area stop in and help out the little bar. read more

Bottom Line: A neighborhood sports bar with a decent selection of drinks and Annapolitan bar food. I really like Stan and Joe's in part because they have their own parking lot and in part because it seems like a low-key locals pub. The bartender was friendly and there was plenty of good choices on tap including a Heavy Seas tap takeover. The menu has plenty of options on it for appetizers and entrees. Bar food consists of burgers, chicken fingers and quesadillas. "Annapolitan bar food" consists of crab dip, crab pretzels, cream of crab soup, Old Bay dusted onion rings, and a burger smothered in crab dip. The food wasn't fancny smancy gourmet but was tasty and paired perfectly with craft beer. The night I was there there was a super drunk obnoxious guy that should have been kicked out. I did my best to ignore him and his behavior and not let him ruin my experience. (His friends were doing the same thing.) I think the bartender should have at least given him a warning or stopped serving him. But the guy kept yelling, "F you all, I'm going home" and similar things so maybe the bartender, like myself, thought it would resolve itself. 3.5 solid stars. Translation: This spot is worth stopping at and you will like it. First things first... Arthur is funny, attentive and charming. My whole group agreed that were it for him alone we would come back. The food: The "stogie" (I can only speak for the steak)....it's just a giant fried egg roll that's super salty. I wouldn't do it again or recommend it to anyone honestly. The crab soup: thick, filling and tastes good. Would recommend. Crab cake sandwich: Full disclosure I ordered without bread and fixings... Best crab cake I've had in years. I ordered broiled not fried. Very little filler. I plan to return to order these again. Ok so Arthur and these things. The fries: Uniquely cut to be honest. Think wedge fries that are really thin. You guys win this one. Beer selection is decent (I mean really it's not bad). This place used to have some of the best pub food in Annapolis. Sadly seems they have taken away everything on their menu that was good. How do you get rid of ALL of the chicken sandwiches and even their vegetarian options are all gone. Mediocre crab soup as well. I highly recommend Stan and Joe's for anybody that's looking for a relaxed night out. A lot of the locals hit the spot after they got off work at night. Every day of the week there's something fun to do, for example right now Mondays are open mic night and Thursdays are karaoke night. My boyfriend and I love coming here to see music put on by the locals. The bartenders are amazing and super friendly. They always have some kind of new draft beer which is a plus; one day I had a watermelon cider which was actually really good. You can count on this place being busy on Friday and Saturday nights but they're always open late during the weekdays as well. The place is decorated with all kinds of fun gear such as jerseys and picture frames of the navy football team. Sometimes they have shirts for sale that say Stan and Joe's which I have bought a couple of. I love that people of all ages come here. As for food I recommend the Nachos because they're loaded with cheese, jalapeños, and more! They used to have a vegan chicken stogi which I was obsessed with. Worked at a Rock Club at 18 called the Rock Garden....this reminds me of that place in terms of cleanliness and ambiance. But they had some nice bartenders and servers so I have occasionally stopped there with and without my husband. Sadly since COVID I have found the Staffing and management of there staff problematic. Met the owner Joe and I was not impressed. Personally I have been cocktail waitressing since 18 bartending since 21 serving off and on since 18 ? I have made tons of money serving others and I have enjoyed many aspects of that part of my career. 61 now so I have decades in the front of the house hospitality field over three different states . In the Florida Keys we were ALSO a tourist location like Annapolis...but in Annapolis some restaurants treat locals very poorly.Unless I was Stan and Joes first poorly treated customer. Fun fact : Some locals no longer go downtown because it's too tourist oriented with some very bad bartenders and they remember good owners like the lovely family run Jim's Corner a favorite spot of mine when new to Annapolis. Bill, Helen, and Liz......lovely people. First to address the early days of Covid in the Spring. Walked in ....there was young beefy white dude....wearing NO MASK who I guess expected me to feel safer when he announced he was a Marine. Me....I left pissed about no mask on a friggin bartender, and became more concerned about the defense of our country with this dumb dude. Returned another time had a great Cosmo but found one female staffer to be extremely nasty , aggressive and menacing in her support of a neighbor business owners unprovoked ( unless taking your photo is grounds for assault ) physical assault of me earlier in the week. Not the best food. The Award Winning West Street Wings tasted like they were frozen and reheated. I'm not sure why they got an award. I ordered The Hangover Burger medium rare. It was cooked medium well. The flavor wasn't bad and the fries are good. My husband ordered the Bunkhouse Burger, also medium rare. It too was cooked medium well.
