I'm sorry this was my first time here I only chose this place cause of 2 reasons I work in Chester so by the time I get home my local butcher in pa will be closed and number 2 was they have close to 5 star rating so I grilled 4 of their prime aged bone in ribeye as far as the freshness it's great but quality is sub par I mean I've tasted that type of quality steak before and it's what you expect at a local diner after eating a cheap quality steak from a local diner I never ate from one it's nowhere near what I get locally I get quality like longhorn steak that I used to get but even they switch up the steaks that don't taste the same that's why I started grilling my own for the amount you pay I do it myself I know I seen 5 stars from this place and I'm sure it's mostly from freshness and maybe they think it's quality some ppl don't know if they're used to that type of steak but I'm very disappointed read more

Definitely a busy spot but the line seems to move at a good pace. Not all their stuff has prices on it (mainly chicken) so shopping was a bit of a shot in the dark. I got 2 racks of ribs, 20 wings, a whole chicken and 3 chicken quarters for just under $100. Prices seem high so we'll see if the quality justifies it tomorrow. read more

This BUTCHER SHOP is out of this world! The butchers were so friendly and wanted to cut us fresh cuts if we didn't care for what we saw......needless to say, no new cuts were needed. We felt like kids in a candy store! The scents that filled our noses when we walked through that nostalgic old wooden screen door overwhelmed our salivary glands! We went the route and left with a huge bag of excellent meat cuts, including sausages, sirloin burgers and even stuffed clams. My boyfriend and I drove an hour out of the way to visit this meat market on our way to PA today for Mother's Day. His mom comes here often when visiting friends in the area and loves their hot dogs (and other meat). We were supposed to pick up a dozen hot dogs and burgers for our mother's day bbq. We called ahead on Thursday to place an order. The man we spoke to was rude and belittling. Three times we asked if we could just put in the order in advance and instead he treated us like we were morons. He stated with cockiness that there would be NO issue picking up hot dogs today. Well, there was a major issue - they were sold out before we got there. While the manager tried to make up for it by throwing in an extra half dozen burger patties on the house, that won't make up for the fact that we've disappointed mom on Mother's Day. Granted I'm a foodie but I love this shop. This is the type of place you can go in not knowing what you want but the incredibly helpful staff will help you make up your mind. I was excited to try the Chester Meat Market due to hearing great things about it. I went in knowing I wanted 2 ribeye steaks for my husband's birthday. The price for $35/steak (a bit pricey but it was a special event so I decided to buy them anyway). When I got to the checkout my total was $90... I asked the cashier why it was $90 when it was $35/steak and she asked the owner. The owner said the price was $45/steak... I was confused due the the sign stating the price was $35 but I didn't feel like I could argue with the owner... to say I was very disappointed with my experience would be an understatement. It never feels good trying a new establishment and leaving feeling ripped off. I don't believe I will return again. read more

Great service and wonderful staff. I have been on a quest to find quality veal shanks and many places are not carrying veal since the pandemic started . Since I live 40 minutes away I called first to confirm they had them. I loved all the products they had but had to restrain myself from buying the lot!! My osso bucco was a huge success! We live about 25 minutes away from "Lou's" as we have called this place for about 20 years, even though Lou is now Glen and Jon. My wife and I stopped in today, a Saturday around 2:30pm as they close at 3pm. Well, we were greeted by one of the younger guys, then Glen came to assist. He has an A+++ rating in customer service. I asked if he had any of his stuffed chicken breasts? He said, give me a few minutes, he put them together from scratch for us in 3 minutes. This is probably one of the most popular spots around. The hamburgers, hot dogs, stuffed chicken & pork chops, sausage, and the steaks...all amazing. But I think what keeps me coming back is the guys behind the counter. One is nicer than the next. Stopped in today to check out this place on the basis of a friend's recommendation. Asked for 1/2 lb of their best hamburger meat- told the guy I wasn't ordering much because I was a "first timer" at the store and just wanted to try out a burger before buying more meat. The guy handed me my 1/2 lb and said, " this is on us- no charge". I was utterly shocked and great fully accepted. I just finished my Chester Meat Market burger and it is probably the best burger I ever had. I had known about this shop for a long time, but never went inside. I was disappointed by the outdated, unclean appearance of the shop. It really was very dated and dingy inside. I recently tried out a different meat market in the area and compared to that one, this place is a dump. The service was friendly enough. It was obvious that many customers were regulars. I think you get used to a certain store and you just keep returning. The cuts I bought were OK, but they didn't look as fresh as they could have and the taste was nothing special. I really wanted to love this place since it's so close to home, but...it was way too dirty looking and the selections were not as plentiful and fresh as they could have been. read more

Great friendly service and they are always helpful in how to best cook any product they sell. We have many favorites from this store. The absolute best is their home made hot dogs. You cannot find a better one anywhere. Large, juicy with a good crunchy casing. You don't even need mustard. Lou's stuffed pork chops are a favorite in my house as are their center cut pork chops. We have been enjoying their lamb loin chops of late. The burgers are also a very good consistent product. Just bought a lamb London broil and their smoked ribs. not cheap but for quality and price value, I'd say you'd be good with CMM. the butchers are incredibly friendly, helpful and seem to provide service I've not seen in years. in an age where everything is increasingly automatic and help is not offered at all, CMM is a wonderful surprise. they will go out of their way to try and provide EXACTLY what you ask for, not the closest option or what is easiest for them so it's close enough. I'm super picky and a pain so when I say they're good, you can believe they're above and beyond in terms of quality and service. well done guys! read more

Really disappointed that they sold my husband pitiful looking ribs today without any meat on them. They seriously were just bones. He did not realize (trusting that the quality was up to par as in the past) until he got home as the guy behind the glass wrapped them up without showing him. He went back to return them or exchange for something actually worth $40 and was turned away. I have been coming to the market for 8+ years with my family and always recommended CMM to friends. I was in the shop recently and the guys behind the counter were making racist and homophobic remarks with a customer. When I walked out a woman who had been in the shop said that she was appalled and would not be returning to this otherwise great meat market. As a proud member of the LGBT community I too was angered by the comments from the members of their staff and was shocked that the other guys in the shop said nothing about the inappropriate comments... the whole thing made me feel like I was back in middle school. The Pastoral Pig in Flanders has higher quality meat anyway and is welcoming to everyone. Too bad though--I used to enjoy my trips to this shop.... read more
