The teachers are so loving and clearly care deeply for the kids. My baby bursts into a big smile each morning when we drop him off with his teachers. We get daily updates on bottles/food and diaper changes, plus photos of him solo and him interacting with the other babies in the classroom. The facility is clean, and the admins are welcoming and also know the kids by name. We've loved TCA so far and would certainly recommend to other parents!

While we were still in out of state,…read morewe began our search for a preschool for my 4-year-old daughter and a before/after school program for my older son. This was very stressful since we did not know the area here very well. I called many schools in the area for pricing and to learn more about their programs. When I called the Merit School of Broadlands, I got to speak with the Director, Caitlin, who was not only able to tell me all about the programs at Merit and answer my many questions, she also shared with me important information about the Broadlands community and the Northern VA area. The fact that she took the time to discuss this with me, not even knowing if I was going to enroll my children, demonstrates a genuine kindness and customer service that I was really impressed with. When I was able to finally tour the school with my 4-year-old daughter, I was impressed with how the Assistant Director, Jessica, was so warm and welcoming towards her. She introduced her to the teacher and let her spend some time in the classroom while I went on the tour. In the front lobby/office area there are large TV screens that show what is happening in the classrooms. It is great for parents who just want to check in on their child without disturbing them. During this tour, I got to see how my daughter was adjusting and interacting with the other students by watching her on the monitors rather than hovering over her. I also really appreciated the security of the building. Each family has a unique code to enter the facility, so outsiders cannot just walk in. In addition, I liked how the school is new and everything was very clean. They also have an amazing playground, which is definitely a bonus for the kids! After touring the Junior Kindergarten classroom, the School Age classroom, and learning more about the curriculum and extracurriculars, I decided to enroll both of my children. My children have now been at the Merit School of Broadlands for about 2 months and we are very pleased with our decision. My youngest is in the full day JK class and she loves it! We are very pleased with how much she has learned in the short time she has been there. She's even learned some Spanish! She comes home happy every day. I also get updates and pictures throughout the day of what the class is learning and pictures of my daughter engaged in different activities or play. It gives me peace of mind to know that she is in good hands. The Before/After School Program is amazing for working parents. My son is able to ride the Merit bus to his elementary school and it picks him up in the afternoon. I also get updates of when he leaves on the bus to go to school and when he arrives back at Merit in the afternoon. My son feels so grown up in the school age room with lockers and computers to use. When the kids get there they have snack, homework time, and outside time. In addition, the Merit School offers other activities for the children. Both of my children have been able to participate in field trips. They have spirit weeks and family events to promote a sense of community. They even host Parent's Night Out events which is wonderful for parents and super fun for our kids. Most recently, they hosted a Scholastic Book Fair for the students. The Merit School of Broadlands has been great for our family and has helped to make the transition to Virginia an easy one for our children.

And as most of you know time is fleeting when you see your child grow. It doesn't hit you at once. It slowly envelopes you and brings realization that he's quickly growing up. This morning as I do I walk him to his school entrance door at 7:30 bc he wants to be the first one in. Just yesterday we did our usual routine of talking outside and me asking for one last hug and kiss. He walks thru the door and stands along the wall with some classmates and tells me not leave but to watch him walk down the hall...a city block long... every couple of feet he turns and waves, smiles and continues down until he is just a yellow fleece sleeve waving at me. Then this morning the door opens and he turns quickly and says "daddy, quick last hug and kiss" then through the door starts his walk. This time all alone. Walking confidently, so self assured, he was 6' tall like he was going to work. How does this happen? He's only 5. Just yesterday he was a tiny baby, we napped in the hot summer afternoon and now he doesn't need my hand.....I cherish every moment with him as if it were the last, telling stories under the covers, of two bluebirds that watch him play and talk about him....." We attribute his self assured level headed maturity to you and your program over his 1st 5 years. He is mow the sweetest boy, a good healthy 5 yr old. His passion for reading and creativity continues to grow every day. Thank you.

We enrolled our twin girls here at 16 months old. They had never been to a daycare. We left…read moreBeantree after 3 months. I initially decided not to post a review, but my husband convinced me that other parents may find my feedback valuable. Starting with the first week, our girls were consistently sick. We expected common colds, but they repeatedly got pink eye, ear infections, and one of our girls caught the flu. My husband thought it was too much but I convinced him to stay and that it was to be expected. However, since starting at our new school, our girls have not been sick once (granted, it has only been one month). The many rooms they rotate throughout the day is great for learning experiences, but I think it also helps facilitate germs between the different age groups. The adjustment was rough. Every drop off was filled with lots of tears and leg holding, but I fully expected this. This was the norm, even 3 months after starting. Overall, their teachers were very nice and seemed caring, but I believe it was hard to adjust because we could not depend on the same teachers being in the classroom at drop off. I tend to drop my girls off between 8am and 8:30am and sometimes there would be the usual teachers and sometimes not. This did not help with the adjustment. My girls thrive on consistency - I knew which teachers each of my girls "preferred" and when they were there for drop off, it made things a little smoother. They have monitors in the reception area that let you watch your child's classroom. I would typically make a cup of coffee (great perk!) and then go look at the cameras. After about 5 minutes, they would settle down and I would leave for work. One particular day, I made my usual cup of coffee and looked at the cameras. One of my girls was standing in the corner looking at the wall. It was very unusual. I stood there watching and just waiting for someone to go see if she was okay. No one did. It was heart wrenching. I watched for 9 minutes until my heart could not take it anymore and I asked the receptionist to come look at the monitor. As I was talking to her, one of the teachers went to my daughter, but only because they were gathering all the students to move to a different room. I left that morning and cried all the way to work. I felt so bad for my daughter and I felt like a horrible mom for having to leave her there and go to work. I decided at that moment I could not leave my children there anymore. They do not have the capability to watch your children remotely (which I was fine with - hacking is real!), but I need to be able to trust that my children are being taken care of and that trust was gone. That evening at pickup, their teacher did apologize and stated that it probably appeared worse than it was and that she was talking to my daughter from a distance. Maybe that's true, maybe not. Even if true, I want my children to attend a place where if they go stand in a corner facing a wall for 10 minutes, someone walks up to them to ensure they are okay. After we notified them we were leaving, the director asked for a meeting. We met with her and one of the teachers. If I wasn't already set on leaving, this meeting would have settled it. To further explain the corner incident, they said they typically leave Twin A alone in moments like this and she eventually comes around. During this meeting, they also decided to diagnose Twin A with anxiety. I was angry. To be clear, she does not have anxiety but she does take time to adjust to new people - as many toddlers do. They should leave the medical diagnoses for doctors. Additionally, they provided us daily reports and not once did a daily report or teacher say Twin A stands in corners or that they think she has anxiety. I also watched the monitor every morning and never observed this either. They proposed putting my twins in separate classrooms. I am a lawyer, also not a doctor, but it seems like that would worsen a twin's anxiety if they'd been together all day every day for 18 months. We started at a new school days later and to say they are thriving would be an understatement. Within a week, Twin A, with her supposed anxiety, was smiling during drop offs. Seeing my girls grow and enjoy their new school as happy AND healthy toddlers made me realize they don't have to be sick all the time and they don't have to be sad at drop offs. I feel awf They did have a lot of positives too - They have great perks like coffee for the parents in the morning and to go snacks for the kids in the afternoons. They also provide diapers, wipes, and diaper cream which is really nice. I think this is to be expected for the cost you pay, but price aside, not having to regularly haul a ton of diapers in for 2 toddlers (they go through a lot!) is a huge convenience for this busy mom. It was one less thing to remember in the morning. During our time there, they had a spirit week which was really fun - we enjoyed dressing the girls up for the different themed days.

Rates are well justified. That place is wonderful and we are enrolling our son there tomorrow. Loved the staff, the cleanliness, the atmosphere, just about everything! We can no longer recommend this center. We have removed our child out of safety concerns and…read morereported them to the state and county licensing authorities. The lead teacher of the toddler room, Atsupi Anthony, gave our 16 month old a cup of laundry detergent which she tried to drink, in addition to dish soap and hand soap. The only reason we know it happened is that she sent us a photo of it with a caption describing it. The Friday before this incident we had spoken to the director about other concerns with Ms Anthony's judgement. I observed her yelling to another teacher not to give a toddler food after his cheese stick fell on the floor ("he needs to learn a lesson and not drop he food") He's under 2, kids drop things. The director said she would investigate and counsel Ms Anthony, that we should trust her because she has many years of experience and parents love her. We notified the regional manager about the laundry detergent and Bright Horizons has, in accordance with their HR policy, decided to counsel her and leave her in charge of the class. Their policy is to counsel, reprimand and then terminate. The regional manager said that Ms Anthony doesn't have anything in her record, that the yelling incident was not recorded and they have to start with counseling her. I'm not sure you can counsel good judgement into someone and am not going to let her practice with my child. For these reasons we are concerned that Bright Horizons does not take safety seriously and have chosen to remove her.

Our daughter has been there for the past two years since she started daycare at four months. She loves all of the teachers she has had and is learning so much! My daughter is so happy to be there and we truly feel like her teachers are part of our family too. It makes us feel so great that she enjoys it so much and she is very well taken care of. As first time parents, everyone was so helpful too with our transition to daycare and all of the updates and pictures from the day help us to feel in touch with what is happening in her day.
