On Monday and Tuesday, the lady at the front desk seemed confused and/or was texting on her phone. Yesterday, we were 2min early and she told us to have a seat in the front because she didn't realize the students had already been called into the class. We noticed that and then she said OK yeah go on back. On both days, I walked my daughter into the class and no Sensei greeted her. There was a female sensei, and she was standing against the wall with her arms behind her back, and I sat there for several minutes and I never saw her approach any of the kids. Today, at drop off, there was no one at the front desk. That's a safety concern. I walked my daughter into the classroom and again, no one greeted her and one Sensei was texting on his phone. It just seems as if the program has been left without adequate supervision and no courtesy greetings or anything acknowledging the kids or offering assistance when they first sit down. It's basically like my kid is just there to sit on the computer by herself for three hours. I asked her if the senseis offer help during the course and she said ....a couple of times. My expectation is definitely more than a couple of times. I wanted to share that feedback with you in case you are the owner or franchisee. Disappointed,

I wanted to give the owner the opportunity to make the situation right, but after months of emails back and forth and at least 2 promises of "the check is in the mail" my patience has reached the end. I had my son's 10th birthday party here and the kids had a great time. My final bill, however, was NOT fantastic. I came in to book the party and was given the birthday party flyer which states the price for up to 10 kids at $215 plus $21.50 for each additional kid. At the end of the party I was, however, charged $25 for each child and was told "oh, that's our new pricing". Additionally I was charged an automatic 20% tip of $77.80 on the final bill. This was NEVER mentioned and I have never been charged a tip for a party at a location EVER. What EXACTLY was I paying for? The party host said it was for her, but the personal party host is included in the party package price according to the flyer. And upon closer examination of the flyer, I noticed that we also were not offered the "group gaming competition" or "group birthday shot" promised. With these MAJOR oversights, I feel I was unjustly charged for $123.30 above what I expected to pay for the party based on the promotional materials. That is 26% of the bill!!! After many emails the owner did send me a check for the difference in the party price but I have been given the run around on the automatic tip amount which with the adjusted price of the party equals 25% of the corrected bill or over $80. I was told the check had been sent from accounting and am now getting the run around by both the owner and another employee and have NOT received restitution or even an apology. Please do not consider doing business with this company or owner who chooses to just ignore dissatisfied customers.

This is a great, old school outdoor camp. Kids get to choose their activities each day--they can go swimming, catch frogs, play in mud, splash in the Gunpowder River, go canoeing or hiking, etc. It is loosely structured enough that can explore, follow their own interests, and use their imaginations. There are mixed age groups and it's amazing to see how kind and supportive the older kids are to the younger kids. The counselors (mostly former campers I think) are hilarious, energetic, creative, kind. Don, a former teacher who has run the camp for over 40 years, is very thoughtful and reflective and the kids love him. This camp gives kids the space to discover their own confidence, creativity, initiative, and it's really really FUN!!!

Starting with Nature Camps' "Little Feet" program, they have grown through the Day Camp and, for the first time, this past summer, "Teen Adventure". The counselors' skills in facilitating each child's personal development and ability to connect with people and the environment around them are astoundingly spectacular. I've lost count of the time I've found myself using the word "magical" to describe how Nature Camps is able to reveal, respect and develop children's best selves. Pick up and drop off at Nature Camps' rustic, wooded location in Monkton offers parents an opportunity to connect with their children and participate in fun activities like "Big Circle". (The (optional) van service from Greenspring Station and/or ad hoc carpools offers other options for families who'd prefer to reduce their own driving time.) In these ways, Nature Camps' values and opportunities outweigh the factors of cost and convenience. Our family's favorite part of each two-week session is the Family Overnight. Overnight activities include a potluck supper followed by entertainment from campers and staff as well as family and friends followed by activities like as night hikes, crafts, and singing by a campfire. The following morning, parents and younger campers are served breakfast prepared by older campers (and staff).

We recently moved to the Broadlands area from out of state. While we were still in out of state,…read morewe began our search for a preschool for my 4-year-old daughter and a before/after school program for my older son. This was very stressful since we did not know the area here very well. I called many schools in the area for pricing and to learn more about their programs. When I called the Merit School of Broadlands, I got to speak with the Director, Caitlin, who was not only able to tell me all about the programs at Merit and answer my many questions, she also shared with me important information about the Broadlands community and the Northern VA area. The fact that she took the time to discuss this with me, not even knowing if I was going to enroll my children, demonstrates a genuine kindness and customer service that I was really impressed with. When I was able to finally tour the school with my 4-year-old daughter, I was impressed with how the Assistant Director, Jessica, was so warm and welcoming towards her. She introduced her to the teacher and let her spend some time in the classroom while I went on the tour. In the front lobby/office area there are large TV screens that show what is happening in the classrooms. It is great for parents who just want to check in on their child without disturbing them. During this tour, I got to see how my daughter was adjusting and interacting with the other students by watching her on the monitors rather than hovering over her. I also really appreciated the security of the building. Each family has a unique code to enter the facility, so outsiders cannot just walk in. In addition, I liked how the school is new and everything was very clean. They also have an amazing playground, which is definitely a bonus for the kids! After touring the Junior Kindergarten classroom, the School Age classroom, and learning more about the curriculum and extracurriculars, I decided to enroll both of my children. My children have now been at the Merit School of Broadlands for about 2 months and we are very pleased with our decision. My youngest is in the full day JK class and she loves it! We are very pleased with how much she has learned in the short time she has been there. She's even learned some Spanish! She comes home happy every day. I also get updates and pictures throughout the day of what the class is learning and pictures of my daughter engaged in different activities or play. It gives me peace of mind to know that she is in good hands. The Before/After School Program is amazing for working parents. My son is able to ride the Merit bus to his elementary school and it picks him up in the afternoon. I also get updates of when he leaves on the bus to go to school and when he arrives back at Merit in the afternoon. My son feels so grown up in the school age room with lockers and computers to use. When the kids get there they have snack, homework time, and outside time. In addition, the Merit School offers other activities for the children. Both of my children have been able to participate in field trips. They have spirit weeks and family events to promote a sense of community. They even host Parent's Night Out events which is wonderful for parents and super fun for our kids. Most recently, they hosted a Scholastic Book Fair for the students. The Merit School of Broadlands has been great for our family and has helped to make the transition to Virginia an easy one for our children.
