Always love our stays - and leave looking forward to our next trip!!!! Staying at the Chesterfield Inn Bed and Breakfast is never a disappointment. From the moment you walk in you are treated with warm hospitality by the owners Judy & Phil along with their staff. Something that stands out is the staff have been the same, which speaks for the owners. I can't say enough about how friendly, accommodating, and welcoming, everyone. We stayed in the main building, in rooms 17, 15, 12 & 14 all have cozy accommodations that are spacious and very clean. Room 15 was a two-room suite with a gas fireplace that we enjoyed in the evening. Room 14 also has a gas fireplaced that we enjoyed. Our favorite room is 12 on the first floor with a private balcony. All the rooms have very comfortable beds, and each room has a small refrigerator. Each of these rooms all had a view of the mountains in the background. Breakfast is included and is served in the lovely dining room. Thersa is very friendly and always ensures we have everything. Breakfast starts with fresh baked muffins and fruit. There is always a selection for breakfast from eggs, omelets and either French toast, waffles or pancakes. I have enjoyed different omelets, the Cinnamon French toast, waffles w/strawberries and blueberry pancakes served with warm maple syrup that comes from a local farm. In the afternoon you can relax by the fireplace in the parlor and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with a variety of fresh baked cookies that are set up for your enjoyment. I highly recommend having dinner in the dining room that is right on the premises at least one night during your stay. The chef prepares great meals, and the menu has a very nice selection. Service has always been exceptional. There is a nice selection of wine, beer and specialty cocktails to choose from. I would highly recommend taking a ride to the "Vermont Country Store" during your stay. The store brought us back to our childhood with the nostalgic toys, rows of penny candy and the original tins of "Charlie chips and much more! This place is fantastic! Gorgeous location and an authentic BNB. They have pet friendly rooms, in a separate building, which is great for guests with allergies. The rooms also don't smell like dog, which is impressive, most do over time! The room I stayed in had a cozy fireplace, and they can do room service for dinner or breakfast. Breakfast was amazing too. Everyone here was so kind and helpful, and even sent me an item I misplaced in the room... that made it to me in Maine in 2 days. Amazing! read more

My wife and I had dinner with a group. We had a lemonade that had little to no flavor. It was colorful and looked nice. My filet mignon was god, my wife's was grisly otherwise fine. One member of our party complained about a smell. Others agreed and felt it was cat urine from the "house cat." The cat did seem to have free run, considering it came by our table a few time during our meal. I can't say I'd recommend dinner here but I definitely give it high marks for atmosphere. read more

When asked "do you recommend this business?" I immediately say...YESSSS!!! What a beautiful place! We stayed in room #14 after our wedding on 09/24/22 & Yoda, the inn cat, selected us to stay with for the night. He slept at the foot of the bed between us. We were told that he knows when someone is a 'cat person' & tends to favor rooms #10, 12, 14 & 20. We were elated to have a king bed with the most comfortable mattress & pillows! They have DirecTV cable. There is a mini fridge in the bathroom area that has tea, soda, champagne, white wine, beer, etc. that you are charged for (just tell them what you consumed & they add it to the room) for fair prices. I think each beer was $5 & the juices were $2. The bathroom in room #14 had a lovely fiberglass shower with tons of shelves, great water pressure & lots of room with glass doors. It was very clean! There are bathrobes in the closet, but we didn't use them. Also in the vanity area, where the mini fridge is located, are an ice bucket, wine glasses & regular water glasses. They supply very nice shampoo, conditioner, soaps, a shower cap & lotion! For what you pay, you receive the nicest of things! So, let's talk about breakfast... You have the option of dining in their dining area OR having it delivered to your room. A simple call to the desk to place your order & a delivery time of under 20 minutes was convenient. They arrive with a tray of well-presented food, cloth napkins, nice silverware & garnish. We stayed 2 nights & had breakfast delivered both mornings. On the menu, they offer an "omelet of the day" along with other choices like French toast or eggs the way you want 'em. I have to say that most of your 3-star or even 4-star hotels offer 'grab-n-go' breakfasts that basically SUCK...but we had a hot breakfast for the same price per night as those places (i.e. Best Western, Comfort Inn....you get it). I believe that our plan is to go back for a weekend to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary & get a chance to have dinner. Easily a 5 star experience at the Chesterfield Inn! My husband and I booked a night here before the new year and had an amazing time! As soon as we walked in we were greeted by not only the amazing and friendly staff but also the inn cat- yoda! We are total cat people so yoda was an added perk to our stay! The decor of this inn is so cute and vintage. During the holiday season the decorations are beautiful! I loved the whole vibe of this inn so much. Our room was absolutely magical! The fireplace was a beautiful touch. The king bed was probably the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on! I was so sad to leave knowing my bed at home was not nearly as comfy as this one! An added perk is the restaurant with their amazing chef! We absolutely loved their maple creme brûlée! I am drooling just thinking about it now. We are foodies so we tried a lot of different places/ foods during our stay in the area and we both can say that that maple creme brûlée was our absolutely favorite thing we had during our trip! We also received a nice breakfast which was included with our stay. I got the maple French toast and my husband got an omelette. We loved their home fries so much! We just wish we had more of them on our plates because we devoured them that quickly! Oh and did I mention they serve house made muffins with your breakfast?! We were served delicious blueberry muffins and they were so perfect alongside our breakfast! I have nothing but amazing things to say about the Chesterfield Inn! We were 3 hours from home when it started snowing. A tentative vehicle purchase in Manchester didn't pan out earlier that day, so we decided to zip back to CT. Our gamble to beat the storm was a bad bet; cars were sliding off the highway as visibility waned and darkness was falling. Of course, we had our faithful dog with us, so the idea of finding a pet friendly hotel now seemed impossible. As the snow intensified, I suddenly remembered that - many years ago - we stayed at a cute inn near Keene that was pet friendly! One phone call and we grabbed their last pet friendly room! We had an amazing filet mignon dinner, delivered to our lovely room where we dined in front of the fire. We watched the snow billow up on the deck and shared delicious wine. Breakfast was also amazing, and best of all, they still have a resident cat - Yoda! (I would like to add that the inn is very clean and there was absolutely no "cat smell" whatsoever! Yes, they love animals, but cleanliness is not sacrificed.) A true port in a storm! read more

We had a very nice dinner outside on the patio. Our waitress at first seemed frazzled and not that friendly. However, we think that it may have been because she was all by herself. After another waitress came to help out, she became friendlier. We had a wedge salad to start and it was good, not great. It did have a few brown spots on it which we had to cut off. Then for dinner I got the Filet Mignon and my husband got the Salmon. Both were delicious, but my steak was more rare than medium. We just ate it because we didn't feel comfortable asking for it to be cooked more. For dessert we got a Carrot Cake and a Maple Creme Brulee. Both were excellent, especially the Carrot Cake. Next time I think that we will eat inside because there were a lot of little red ants under our table. Which can happen since you're outside, so I'm not complaining. read more

Our stay local getaway to relax, unplug, and eat well! Suite was perfect, cozy fireplace, old time desk with all info we could need for our stay. May I say the bedroom had country/classic feel, bedding was fresh n soft. All linens were nicely folded and more than we needed for our stay. All staff were friendly and always cheerful, helpful with all of our needs. Tea and coffee with fresh cookies when we arrived to enjoy a nice touch. We also had a very nice cheese and fruit platter waiting for us in our room. The restaurant was so quaint and classic, peaceful, never rushed. the food was all great, even for myself that likes my filet mignon cooked med/well most chefs hate to do it and rarely is it done enough, but last evening it was a win, win. My husband had the butternut squash ravioli was very good. Desert was delish. But must say the Breakfast was outstanding, but the scones were the best, so fresh. And we enjoyed watching the snowfall while eating breakfast. Will be returning again soon. read more

Truly lovely establishment. My boyfriend and I went during my birthday weekend when I was in town for Green River Marathon. Amanda at the front desk was kind, patient (I am a bit high maintenance) and super helpful. The bedroom was a spacious, coolly-temperatured oasis, where a large plush bed was waiting for my sore limbs. I was in post-marathon heaven:). There were also several magazines and books strewn about the room for our reading pleasure, along with a furnace and several cool and quirky decorations-- including a distressed wooden coffee table and secretary desk. Although we did not dine at the hotel's restaurant for dinner, we did have the pleasure of eating breakfast there (and what a treat!)- homemade muffins, maple-soaked french toast and perfectly executed sausages. There was also a very sweet black and white cat named Yoda who served as a second chair to the receptionist (he laid down on the front receptionist desk) and was always there to greet us. In fact, when we left at the crack of dawn for the marathon, Yoda was by our door to greet the day. I like to think he was a good luck charm. My boyfriend, who does not like cats, even had a soft spot for him. I would definitely return to this hotel- maybe even book an event there in the future (there was a wedding party when we arrived). I did not stay at the Inn, but I wanted to write about the restaurant. The Chesterfield is definitely old school, and they do it very well. You won't find fussy food or creative dishes, but you will find delicious food prepared with quality ingredients and cooked to perfection. The dining room is spacious and the tables far enough apart that you can enjoy private conversation. The building is an historic farmhouse, so there is a nice sense of tradition and history. The ambiance is lovely with white tablecloths and napkins, but the guests are dressed somewhat informally or "county casual." The pace of the restaurant is rather laid back, they are offering a relaxed find dining experience, so definitely leave some time to enjoy. I liked the list of appetizers, but honestly, the portions are so generous, I'm not sure how you would eat it all! Also, as a tip, there is a nice incentive for Yelp users, a free glass of wine with your entree when you check in. read more

My wife and I had the pleasure of having our wedding at the Chesterfield Inn, and it was made perfect by Judy and the excellent staff. She accommodated so many last minute requests, including finding a local babysitter for the evening for my two nephews. Judy made it so easy for us to enjoy ourselves and our evening. The food was EXCELLENT, and the complimentary breakfast was special every morning. We stayed in rooms 19 for two nights and 20 the last night (another last minute decision) and had family in the main inn and in two of the rooms in the Johanna Wetherby Building. Our beds were among the most comfortable I've ever slept and almost didn't make it up in time for breakfast the next day. The fireplaces are easy to use (on a timer) and add a cozy atmosphere to the room. We debated bringing our dog as we were staying on a pet friendly room, but decided against it. You would never know that pets were in these rooms however because it is so clean. Even my wife, who is allergic to everything had no reaction whatsoever. Brattleboro is a nearby town that is nice to visit, there is a hiking trail nearby and a Vermont Country Store about 15 miles north. We had a wonderful time at the Chesterfield Inn and started planning our next trip there even before we left! TIP: bring cash! breakfast is served and although included with your stay, the staff definitely deserve tip for the excellent service. read more

This is an old inn that has been lovingly maintained for years. Upon entering, the resident cat, Yoda, was comfortably lounging on the chair next to the Christmas tree. A lovely beginning that was maintained throughout the evening. We haven't been here in quite some time and were hoping it would be as good as we remembered. And it is. There is a large reception area where we relaxed for a bit before going into the dining area. It's pretty and inviting and there were the remains of afternoon tea which is always a nice touch. We were there for dinner so off we went into the dining room. There are actually two rooms: a larger room where tables are set well apart from each other and a smaller more intimate porch with just a few tables. We sat in the latter as it is filled with windows, making you feel more outside (without actually being out in the cold). We chose a nice bottle of red wine and only one of us had a starter. The clam chowder was reported to be hearty, fresh and delicious. The rolls served were indescribably good. Can't say more than that. Just that we could have made a meal out of them, they were that yummy. And they are house made Two of us had the special which was swordfish. So perfectly cooked, seasoned and presented! The sauce was flavorful but not heavy and the capers added a nice touch of saltiness without being overwhelming. The accompanying rice and mixed vegetables were just right. The third member of our party had the lamb rack. They were extremely tender and cooked perfectly. He could have eaten a second portion, they were that good. Sides consisted of potatoes and the same vegetable medley as the fish. For dessert we had the maple creme brûlée. Out of this world! And the carrot cake was superb. Happily the large slice allowed us to bring some home while the creme brûlée's dish was practically licked clean. Service was so nice both upon entering as well as during dinner. Our server even gave us a few of those wonderful rolls to take home! A big shout out to the chef for making our birthday dinner so memorable. Happy New Year to all of you, including Yoda. read more

The menu is varied with a great selection of meat, fish, or fowl...but recently it was a memorable rack of lamb with scalloped potatoes and green beans. I can't say enough good things about this inn. The staff was so attentive and the place is so well maintained. I felt very welcome and well cared for. The food is creative, while being filling and not overly expensive. Breakfast in the morning is included and did not disappoint. The hash browns were the best I have ever tasted and I am not exaggerating. I would recommend having the chocolates and the cheese plate delivered to your room and taking advantage of the bottle of champagne from the stocked fridge. Swank indeed. We are talking country swank, of course. The Chesterfield Inn is part of an association of about 12 inns that call themselves DINE (Distinctive Inns of New England). Unfortunately having booked late in the season, we ended up staying at the Hampton down the street - not-so-swank - but we were able to have dinner at The Chesterfield. When we arrived, the hostess informed us that the staff was a little overburdened and asked if we would mind having a drink in the living room. We sat in front of the fireplace sipping wine for 15 min or so, before we were seated on a closed-in porch at the back of the dining room. Over the course of our meal, other guests left and we found ourselves alone on the porch. We were the last in the restaurant, but our waitress told us not to rush, "I love seeing young people have the porch to themselves." Awww, ok I admit it sounds a little nauseating, but he food was not. We started with wild boar and elk sausages served over a candied cabbage, followed by a wonderful fresh local salad. I had a bison ny strip steak, and my boyfriend had duck. Everything was wonderful. Finished off with a pumpkin bread, bread pudding. read more

My husband and I got married on NYE and were looking for a quick getaway before he had to go back to work as a teacher. The Chesterfield Inn came highly recommended by several couples so we booked for a long 4 day weekend. From the moment we arrived we felt at home. Our room was spacious complete with a gas fireplace. The bed and linens were extremely cozy for a winter getaway. We peeked into a few of the other rooms which all have a nice homey feel. The grounds were gorgeous with the snow and I have a wonderful picture of the barn with christmas lights on my fridge. The food was delicious and I am still craving their pancakes!! Dinners were phenomenal from start to finish. The staff always smiled and we were congratulated left and right on our new marriage. The owners even had chocolate covered strawberries in our room after meeting them. Needless to say we are already looking forward to another long weekend up there....and some more pancakes! read more

I've stayed in a few B&Bs in my time and this is my favorite. I haven't been in a few years, but per the website it doesn't look like it's changed much!! The rooms are gorgeous and exactly what they advertise with cozy beds and nice, clean bathrooms. The restaurant here is amazing as well! This is actually where I had my first lesson on pairing wines with food. Dinner and breakfast are both amazing and the owners couldn't be nicer! I visited the Chesterfield Inn this past weekend to celebrate my one year anniversary with my boyfriend. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the innkeepers and staff made us feel so welcome. The inn itself is beautiful and so comfortable, and the food (we had dinner at the restaurant, and then breakfast the next morning) was incredible. It's perfectly situated about 10 minutes from Brattleboro, which was a cute town to wander through and explore. I highly recommend this inn for a weekend getaway! read more

Being from Hawaii, I am not exactly a frequenter of B&Bs but this place exceeded my expectations. First of all, this is a very large inn reminiscent of a mansion from colonial times and each room is different from the next. Overall, the place is charming, inviting, and run very professionally yet courteously. Chesterfield Inn even has a fairly extensive menu that extends beyond breakfast which include several gourmet dishes which we had for dinner. The food isn't going to be the greatest you've ever had, but it is of restaurant quality while satisfying your craving for a home cooked meal. The rooms themselves, as I mentioned, are all unique with a colonial charm, but they did not overlook modern amenities here. There is Wi-Fi available as well as satellite TV in the rooms and all the linens/toiletries you'd expect at any hotel. All this, coupled with the inn's wonderful staff, really makes the experience very easy to recommend. read more

I only got to stay here 1 night, which is a pity, since this is a charming, relaxing place. The rooms are spacious, and tastefully furnished. The service is friendly and attentive, and the food is great. There are comfortable sitting areas inside and out. TV reception and availability of channels is somewhat limited. There is free wi-fi (YAY!) but the use of that wi-fi temporarily inserts a Meraki toolbar onto the computer screen. It shows various articles that you can read. The toolbar is not installed permanently, but is not removable as long as you use the wi-fi. (Using Firefox browser with its add blocker does block it.) I found it distracting, and the idea is creepy, because it seems invasive of my privacy. If not for this, I would give 5 stars. read more

A single night's stay was enough to lure us back for many nights in the future. Chesterfield Inn is both comfortable and romantic, and is designed with primarily couples in mind, with pet-friendly thrown in as a bonus. Our stay in Room 20 of the Wetherby building could not have been more pleasant and if all the rooms in the inn are appointed as nicely as this one then you can't miss with room selection, though we'd advise you to get this one if you can. (It is listed as one of their top rooms so you'll pay a bit extra.) Separate entry ways and windows with views of the woods permit privacy, though one is only steps away from the main building. Be sure to enjoy their wonderful (and gratis) cooked breakfast either in the inn or, even better, served on your private and spacious deck. In winter, make use of the gas fire place. In all seasons take advantage of the whirlpool tub and huge shower. If you want to check in with the world you're trying to forget, then connect with free wifi. Dinners are served in the candlelit dining room. Service is polite, friendly and efficient. Rates are typical for well-appointed inns of this caliber and you will not feel cheated out of your expense. The inn is conveniently located just a few minutes from I-91, and makes for a much more pleasant place to overnight than the hotel row on Route 5 in Brattleboro, and at some times of the year might be cheaper! Be sure to book ahead for busiest weekends. We can't imagine how this place could disappoint. read more

We were blown away by the staff, the accommodations and the setting at the Chesterfield Inn! From the moment we arrived it was perfect! We chose the Inn because it is pet friendly and our pup loved it! There was a great doggie gift basket on the bed when we arrived and the patio overlooking the field was perfect. We had a wonderful time here! It was the 2 of us and our Boxer pup. We stayed in one of their pet friendly rooms. They had plenty of room for us to walk around with our pup on the grounds. We had direct access outside thanks to their annex building that we were in. Right outside our room was a private patio. We were also able to get breakfast delivered to our room so that we would be able to stay with our pooch in the room. Exceptional service, we will definitely visit again. read more

Best Bed and Breakfast in the area! I stayed here for my anniversary at the beginning of November and the service was excellent. The owner has a cat that walks around the inn and is very friendly. The room that we stayed in was very clean and had a deck. When we got there it felt like 60 degrees so we sat out on the deck for a bit..so peaceful! Breakfast was good, they serve homemade muffins each morning and at dinner service as well. The red pepper cornbread muffins were delicious! The Inn is 15-20 minutes from Keene NH and other area attractions. I would definitely recommend this place to others! read more

I went there with my wife and 3 year old boy and I will tell you the owner and her staff are super nice and friendly !!! I would go back there in a heart beat !!! My little boy loved the kitty cat and the owner and the staff let my boy feed him a treat !!!! he was super happy about that !!! The rooms are clean and the breakfast was awesome !!!! We have returned to stay at the chesterfield inn 3 times. It is lovely and so quiet and relaxing. We use it as a point between home and Maine to stay and this is our 2nd summer to return. Breakfast is yummy and there is plenty to eat. Dinner is excellent and service is great! We return to the same room and feel right at home on the terrace with a glass of wine watching the sunset. Brattleboro is very close and we always enjoy spending time in town during our stay. Prices are reasonable and the accommodations are clean and quite comfortable! The staff made us feel welcomed and are very friendly.
