Thoroughly impressed, considering the nightly price and quality. The rooms are newly renovated and immaculately clean. The property is clean all together as well (the outdoor recreation grass area, walkways & parking lot). As someone who recently fell into a housing crisis due to an aggressive / narcissistic landlord, I feel very comfortable here and safe as well; my wife included, which has been great towards providing a sense of peace of mind, to continue my professional career. The staff have been very friendly and accommodating. I had an issue on the third day I was here, where my booking didn't go through (on Booking.com) but I was charged for so. The front desk staff member though was very understanding, patient and willing to help. He allowed for us to stay past the checkout time, to figure the issue out and afterwards, he generously offered us a low weekly rate. Considering the rate he offered and my workplace being nearby, I will definitely be taking him up on the offer. The weekly rate he offered us is unheard of nowadays. The sign says Family Owned Since 1975, but it's definitely not this family. Literally the only reason we stayed here was because it advertised an indoor pool and spa--there's even a large sign as you pull in promoting it "open every day except Christmas!" Christmas must have come in August, because it was closed. Most of the hotel was dead empty. An unhelpful guy who claimed to be an owner was planted at the desk. The only effort he put in was when he tried and failed to uncharge us on the room we'd already booked online. The room was damp and soggy with old carpet, old TV, old fridge, cheap bedding. Take away the pool and spa and there's literally no reason to stay here unless you want a hands-on tutorial on how to administer Narcan to the junkies in the parking lot. The national chains hiked their prices so high for the holiday weekend, I decided to give Colonial Motel a chance. I'm glad I did. Yes, the facilities are dated. But the room was clean; sparkling white bed linens; comfy mattress; plenty of electric outlets. The room could have used another lamp, but most motel rooms could. Non-smoking room smelled horribly of pot, cigarette and vape. Only working light was overhead and bedside table lamp. Other lamps were unplugged or non-functional. Generally old, shabby and dirty, including inside of drawers, upholstered chair was stained. Waited from 3-7pm for my daughter to arrive then left without staying even one of three nights booked. Reservation had been prepaid for months and clerk hassled with me at check in trying to charge me an additional $200 which I did not pay. Booked our stay over the phone after telling the man on the phone that we needed two beds, one for a couple, one for a single. He quoted us $98 and we agreed to book it. Upon arrival he told us it would be $130 because there were three people, not two. We told him that we had discussed needing two beds and the fact that we had three people staying there.. he was extremely rude and kept telling us "it's only $10 per person" (which it was actually a $30 difference).. Finally he agreed to charge us our original quote, but didn't make any changes in the computer so we were confused if we were actually charged the appropriate amount. So, we asked for a receipt, which he DENIED us... told us to get it in the morning. This morning we went to checkout and asked for our receipt, to find out we were charged $120... this is ILLEGAL .. woman working in morning didn't know how to go about it and obviously was new to the job so we just took our loss.. overall very frustrating experience as there was another motel nearby that was less expensive and nicer. We had a very bad experience here... The room was OK... It was just that the rug is old and stained and smelled... The bathroom was outdated, and the sink stopper was actually taken out of the sink and placed on the ledge next to the mirror... It was disgusting... The lamp in the room leaned forward... like lost furniture... The breakfast was awful... Microwaved, eggs, either bread, or English muffin, that you toasted, and cold butter... I tried calling abt wifi for close to an hour and then decided to walk to office where I continued to sit and wait and wait and wait for a good half hour before someone actually came in. We woke up to sounds which we first thought were rats, but quickly realized someone trying to break into our room through a window which was OPENED- no good reason a window should be open in the middle of a Vermont winter. We booked a night here and everything was great. The other reviews need to realize that this is a motel, not a hotel, so the rooms aren't going to be the Ritz. Our rooms were definitely a little dingy but nothing crazy. We just used this as a place to lay our heads and chill out after the day, so didn't get to explore the spa or restaurant part. Would definitely come back next time we're in VT! Note: the complaints about having to show a COVID vaccine card make me laugh. This is not against the law and is up to each business' discretion on whether they prefer vaccinated guests or not. Want to warn everyone to absolutely avoid Booking.com and Colonial Motel and Spa. It looks nothing like the pictures online and most of the rooms are rented to people who live there. You have ZERO recourse when you get to a hotel and it's absolutely atrocious smelling and doesn't look anything like the pictures. We immediately walked out of the room and asked for a refund. The reservation and cancellation all happened within a 90 minute period. "Booking.com" and "Colonial Motel and Spa" in Brattleboro Vermont stole $245 from us and isn't responding to my calls for a refund. Raj, the "manager" is never available and when he does answer he says he's "not Raj". As you can see, this is my first review. I'm very laid back and offer folks grace more times than I should. Customer service was horrible. We stood in the lobby for 25mins waiting to check in. The host was sitting at a table at the restaurant next door. All the soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion dispensers were empty. They require you to show vaccine card to use the pool, hot tub, and sauna. I believe that's against federal law. Just checked in. My room REEKS of pot. Called the front desk to let them know. How did housekeeping not report it? Next, tried to shower. Shower head isn't working. I called the front desk again and was told to "twist the thing". Apparently, I twisted the wrong way and the whole thing flew off and on to me. Ow. Ugh. Put it back on, twisted the other way and it worked. I'm here two nights...I hope. The room is nice (minus the pot and with a self-fixed shower head). I'm too exhausted to fight and switch rooms so fingers crossed it'll air out soon, plus one wasn't available. My tip: ask to see your room first. DO NOT STAY HERE. How bad could it be? Let me tell you. We were given the Windsor "suite" which consisted of one bedroom with king sized bed and living room, separated by a full bathroom. The first thing we noticed when we opened the door was the smell. It was overwhelmingly musty. Even the travel air freshener I bring with me could not get rid of the smell. I used about a third of a travel-sized spray. We couldn't open some of the windows, and the ones we could open had no screens, so we couldn't air the place out. After our noses normalized to the musty smell we noticed the living room side smelled like cat urine. So much so that there's no way that was just one cat. They charge a pet fee but clearly they aren't using it to clean the rooms. The bathroom had two lights that didn't work, peeling paint, dirty blinds and fixtures. The floor was sticky. The bedroom furniture and carpet had gross looking stains. Trying to sleep that night was difficult because of the smells. We closed the doors to the living room and that helped some, but we ended up leaving the next day instead of staying overnight. I thought about complaining to the front desk, but when I read the review of someone who tried this it seemed pointless. Will never stay here again even if you paid me. read more

This place is abysmal! Pool and hot tub close at 7 pm on a Friday night and don't open to 9 am on Sat. Continental breakfast is supposedly started at 6 am. At 6:30 a.m., the door to the lobby was locked, and the lights were off. The rooms, oh my goodness, sleeping on a cardboard mat in a field is cleaner. Bed sheets were half on the bed, lamps broken, door had black grimey fingerprints all along the door nob. Spiderwebs, I am serious, no kidding! Spiderweb was hanging off the windows and curtains on the inside of the room. The shampoo, conditioner, and body soap dispensers were all empty or maybe broken? Who knows. The room smelled like wet dog and mold. The carpets were thread bare and totally stained. Cable outlets hung from the wall broken . Table was separating from the frame. It was the creepiest place I have ever stayed, and this is sad because 5 years ago, this was a pretty okay place, but now? It must have switched hands or something because the level of filth is unrivaled. All of this was $158 for the "upgraded room from Expedia! When I contacted Expedia about the booking, they said the best they could do offer me a $25 discount on a future booking. They can keep it! I would never book with Expedia ever again for anything. With its decent price and quaint atmosphere the Colonial Motel seems like an obvious choice for a place to stay in Brattleboro. Beware though; a chain of poor communication and disrespectful staff might not be worth the bargen. After checking in for our second stay, getting cozy and unpacking; as my wife was undressing for the shower, housekeeping (without knocking) just swings the door wide open, exposing my wife's naked body to the crowded parking lot. Needles to say, she was mortified. The door was closed and locked, with the "do not disturb" sign on the door, and with the chain locks removed from all rooms, and the deadbolt an apparent formality, your security here is apparently at the mercy of the large and confusing spectrum of hotel staff (apparently consisting mostly of hotel residents). I immediately went to the office to address the situation, where I was informed that somehow l it was normal for housekeeping to barge in late in the afternoon without nocking, and that the manager wouldn't even be in until after the weekend, so there was nothing they would do. We have stayed at The Colonial a few times in the past, and have always had at least one issue with the same housekeeping lady. Aside from barging in unannounced, this now the second time, she's been rude to both my wife and myself previously, apparently due to them not updating the list of rooms to be cleaned. Even through our past mildly unpleasant experiences here, we planned on writing a good review for this place, but after this most recent incident, and the rude and unapologetic manner hotel staff responded to our complaint, I feel I must emphasize that fresh paint, and appliances salvaged from some defunked best western, do not make up for negligent and disrespectful management. read more

The room was OK. Honestly, not the worst... But that's really not a lot to stand up to. It smelled musty. Like... Old school camp musty. At first this was kind of nostalgic... But that feeling faded quickly. It was not well maintained. It was not entirely clean feeling. There were pubes on the shower wall. They were not my, nor my companions pubes. The fridge seal ring was not connected to the door. It kept falling off. The bed literally broke as I was trying to get up. Ok, look. I'm not a small guy... But this thing literally collapsed. The bottom right wheel leg crumpled. I've had a lot of beds... I've never had this happen before. On the plus sides: The staff was nice. No one was nasty, or unpleasant. If there was an option for negative stars, it would be -8 considering this was a Mother's Day getaway that turned into a dirty nightmare. The pictures posted online and what you see IRL is a catfish scenario. The 2nd-floor Deluxe King Room was definitely a deluxe room that was filled with suspicious stains everywhere. When we first walked in, we were first hit with the smell of death. You know the one where something died and has been air-locked tight for days. The windows were caulked shut but we did have a nice breeze coming in from the large gap between the door and frame, we could even see the hallway! What a view and thank goodness for that airflow... Clearly, we got the deluxe package with specks and stains on the mattress, walls, mirror, and floor. The bathroom had visible mold, peeling paint, and no working exhaust fan. Furniture was heavily worn and stained; a black light would have really lit this place up! Our room also came with a blacked-out peephole covered by fancy paper and scotch tape. The door had no locking mechanisms for the chains and one of our doors could have been opened with a credit card. Lucky for us our nightstand was holding one of the doors shut (dual-purpose deluxe furniture piece)! All and all we are so glad that we asked for our money back. Wanted a nice place in Brattleboro so dropped $440 for 4 nights. The soap and shampoo dispensers were basically useless. The breakfast was a joke. There was no seating. You had to grab a piece of stale French toast or a small triangle of eggs...if they had any and walk two football fields to my room. Breakfast at the colonial motel sucks. The guy at the front desk was in his pajamas and looked stoned. You can not enter the spa unless you have a vaccine card. The attached restaurant was under staffed and actually stated when we arrived that they would prefer if we went some where else. The place was dirty. the breezeway door had black residue on it....and the hotel is taking money from the state to house homeless who like to sit outside smoking. Find something else. read more

So I made a big mistake. We decided to head up to VT a day early, so I booked this place on a whim. I relied on Hotels.com reviews but failed to check my trusty Yelp for a more realistic sense of the place and sure enough, Yelp was correct with the lowly ratings. Upon walking into the main check in area, it was warm and cozy with a wood stove burning so I felt pretty optimistic. I now realize however... This place is pretty nasty. While the rooms are rather spacious and not as bad as some others (definitely outdated). The indoor stairway areas to get to the second floor are heinous. If you're on the first floor and don't need to go into these areas, consider yourself lucky. The indoor stairwell areas have horribly stained carpets, chipped paint all over the walls and linens all stashed into a corner on the floor downstairs (is this where the hotel staff keeps them?). Totally disgusting! I've paid less than the $98 I spent here and have received much more in the past at other places. In terms of the room - Pros: - Coffee maker (didn't expect it at this place) - Small Refrigerator - Shower pressure was good Cons: - One of the main lights didn't work - Bed wasn't very comfortable. Woke up a lot. While I wasn't expecting much due to the low price, the photos I saw everywhere made this place to be much better. I didn't check out the pool area which I heard from other reviews ywas the only redeeming quality. Will probably avoid this place next time and spring for something a little nicer. I have stayed here at least 4 times in the passed 10 years. Its on the outskirts of town, and is near to shopping and the highway. I first decided to book this place years ago because based on the website, I thought it would be a "spa" like atmosphere for a super affordable price. Not really, its a standard motel, with an indoor pool and outdoor pool. It has always been clean and the staff friendly. This last trip we had a huge room but the floor was extremely squeaky (even though it is carpeted). Everything is pretty dated, but clean. I was disappointed though, because I had planned on getting up and having the continental breakfast (that I had all the previous years) but they did away with that. They just had an awkward coffee bar area. My husband and I were chatting with the concierge, who explained that they had transformed the previous breakfast area into the dining room for dinner. (The Tavern- An upscale restaurant) so- no more free continental breakfast. read more

I wasn't sure if I should give 2 or 3 stars, so I went with 2 for many reasons.. When you first get to the hotel, you go to the 'office' area to check in, which was very cozy. They had a wood burning fire place area, and a nice Christmas tree. It was very festive. We got to the front desk and proceeded to check in. We had reserved 2 rooms, and asked to be placed next to each other. They were able to accommodate this, which we were thankful for. We asked the man at the front desk what the hours for the pool were. He checked the schedule, and told us the hours. We then asked what the hours of the hot tub & Jacuzzi were. He looked back down at the schedule, and told us the hours. We went to our rooms. The next day, after a long day of skiing, we all get into our bathing suits and start walking towards the hot tub. Guess what.. THERE IS NOT HOT TUB!! The hot tub was supposed to be outside, right in front of the spa area. But it looked like they had started building it and never finished. We proceeded to go inside the "spa" area and notice that there is a 3 lane lap pool, where 3 people are swimming. We had just wanted to go into the pool and relax, but that was impossible because of those 3 people swimming laps back and forth. The guy at the front desk of the spa area told us that we could go sit in the first lane of the pool, and the people swimming would understand. I stated that I didn't feel comfortable interrupting their swimming. I then asked about the Jacuzzi's that were advertised on their website, and he proceeded to tell me that they have 2 Jacuzzi's, however they are not working. There was nothing for us to do there, so we got our stuff and went back to our rooms. This put an extreme damper on our trip because the main reason we chose this "motel & spa" was because they advertised the hot tub and Jacuzzi on their website. I was even more upset that the guy at the front desk told us the hours of the hot tub & Jacuzzi, yet he had to have known that there was absolutely no hot tub and the Jacuzzi's were not working. The room itself wasn't bad, the TV was an older model box tv, but it worked. The bed was very comfortable and clean. There is no main light in the room, there are several lamps place all around, however they do give off a lot of light. There was a full length mirror in my room, which is a plus because not a lot of hotels have this. My friend's room had a half length mirror. There is a mini-fridge and microwave, which not many upscale hotels even offer. There is a thermostat in the room, but it takes a while to get to the desired temperature. The bathroom area is split into 2. The toilet and tub are in a small room, and the sink/mirror are out in the open. This was a pretty good setup so that 2 people can get things done simultaneously. There is a hair dryer. They don't supply you with many towels or toilet paper though, so I would ask for more if I were you. They gave us 2 full body shower towels, and 3 or 4 small face towels. They gave us one full roll of toilet paper, and half of another. The shower itself was pretty okay, the water pressure and temperature were good, but the curtain that was hanging kept moving and all the water would fall on the floor when the shower was on. There is a small garbage can in the bathroom, and then a bigger one outside of the bathroom area, but the clear garbage bags that are in there are way too small and kept tearing. A downside of the hotel is that there is carpet in the majority of the area, and I do not like carpet because you don't really know how often it is cleaned. It looked like it had some stains on it, but for the most part was okay. There is free Wi-Fi which is a plus. There are lots of drawers in the room if you are the type to fully unpack, however make sure you check the drawers because my friend's room had underwear/socks/shorts in one of her drawers. We called up the front desk to tell them about the clothes and the guy stated that there was construction going on in the area and the workers stay at the motel often and may have left clothes behind. My friend didn't mind the clothes, she left them there, however this looks like a lack of cleaning done by the cleaners. We paid a total of $219.97 for 3 nights, which came out to an average of $66 a night. In my opinion it was honestly worth maybe $40 a night simply because there were no real amenities available to us. Overall, I wouldn't stay at this hotel again. Their website states that Mount Snow is an attraction. Mount Snow is an hours drive away! We were not expecting that especially after having driven 4 hours from NYC already, we would have chosen a hotel closer. And along with the front desk man deceiving us about the hot tub/Jacuzzi hours, I had asked him if he could print out my Ski Lift tickets because I had forgotten, and after checking us in, he took the next customer and completely disregarded what I said. A "no" would have been better than ignoring my request. read more

We had a lovely, brief visit. It's a large campus of buildings from several eras. We were in Room 266 in the most 'mid-mod' of the lot. Room was exactly as the pictures on the web. A nice, low-key renovation. Firm bed. Decent sheets. It was a warm day but we arrived and it was cool (no musty smell in the least). Breakfast was ample, comparable to what I've had in very good resident-style motels. Loved the spa (steam rooms are rare but so nice; GREAT hot tub). Sweet and cordial staff. read more

I stay in hotels for work almost every night, this has been my favorite by far. Ever seen the movie, The Grand Budapest Hotel? Something about the way that place is run reminded me of that movie, in an incredibly charming way. Salt water pool area = decadent. The place is really run down and dirty. There were cob webs and litter in the stairwells. Our view was of junk piled up in the corner of the parking lot. The separate building for the pool and hot tub area looked a shambles on the outside and we almost skipped it altogether. It ended up that it was ok on the inside. After we showed our ID's and vaccine cards of which they actually recorded some of our personal medical data, we had to pull our hair back and shower. We then found out they have a 2 person limit for the hot tub and cameras to police it. As soon as you get in the hot tub, another couple will come over and you'll be kicked out. Definitely not worth the effort. The breakfast was decent with fresh fruit and a few warm options. No one was at the front desk when we went to check out during the busy morning checkout time. read more

Probably one of the most traumatizing hotel/motel stays I have ever been too. The staff was very friendly but the other guests were not. People up all night screaming and yelling/ fighting/ slamming doors. The cops were called multiple times and the hotel had promised to kick them out and they did not follow through with that promise. I felt very unsafe the entire time. Don't even get me started about the carpets, haven't been cleaned in years. The pool and spa area were closed and breakfast was a grab and go due to the corona virus (not that big of a deal compare to what has happened). I wouldn't recommend staying here to anyone, I understand this wasn't the hotels fault but after the second night they should've done something. For $60, I had a fine experience. My four stars is not indicating that this is a "Four Star Hotel", it indicates that I got what I was expecting plus a little bit more. Yes, the room was a bit dated, and the bathroom needs to be redone. Yes, the hallway smells of mildew, but if you're sleeping in the hallway, you have bigger problems than can be solved by a $60 motel room. The service was friendly, the bed was comfortable, the TV worked, the fridge kept my milk cold, and I got to the ski hill on time. AND...when I got back from skiing, the pool was outstanding and the hot tub was hot. In fact, I skipped skiing with the family on Sunday, and I swam instead. Beautiful. Don't be discouraged by the people who expect the Four Seasons for their sixty bucks. This is a great find. read more

Decided to try this place on a whim. Like other posters, this place kind of surprised me. (In a good way) it is on the older side but my room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. I was surprised to see a microwave and fridge which was a nice plus. TV's are older models but I don't watch TV and it wasn't an issue. I took a quick shower and water was immediately hot with good pressure. Another nice touch are the soap/ shampoo dispensers inside the shower and by the sink area. Better than those single use samples and less wasteful. Also the towels were nice and soft and smelled freshly laundered. Nice! I will check to see if breakfast is included in the morning. It looks like they had the setup for it in the lobby. This is a nice, fairly inexpensive place to stay. There are a lot of convenient stores and restaurants nearby and downtown Brattleboro isn't very far down the road. I would definitely recommend. read more

We paid about $85 for an overnight stay in a room with two queen size beds. The cost is moderate when compared to something like a Super 8 or Holiday Inn. The size of the room is quite comfortable: there is lots of space in the rooms of the left side of the lot, not sure about the Tyler (right) side. The room is clean, yet something about it was just not right... Our first impression of the room was not positive: there was a damp, musty smell which made it difficult to get comfortable; speaking of comfortability, our mattress felt like a waterbed without enough water--so much for the charm of a family-owned (since 1975) establishment. Lighting in the room was poor, especially considering there was a desk in the room where I could've done some work, studying, reading, etc. I'm kind of glad I left the laptop at home... Although the free Wi-Fi signal was excellent. There was another nasty smell that I discovered: my pillow cases smelled like someone wiped their rear end with it, and we were appalled that the cleaning staff left an envelope with a hand-written illustration depicting a magical broom despite the odors of the place. The TV would have been fine if it weren't for the unmatched remote control in our room, making it impossible to adjust channels, volume, or remove subtitles from the screen. The bathtub was clogged and it seemed like our feet were bathing in everyone else's spent water from adjacent rooms--gross! From what we've heard the pool is awesome for families and kids, but we were not about to venture across the promenade in Speedos and 30 degree weather... The mini fridge in the room was a plus, except for the fact that it froze everything overnight! What a shame... read more
