This is a very cozy Peruvian restaurant located in Freeport. The food is delicious with a diverse offering. They bring a snack of corn kernels which appear to be roasted. It is very delicious and hearty. The restaurant is quite cozy and there is plenty of seating to dine in. All of the waitresses were super efficient and more importantly, very pleasant. We ordered 2 different chicken combos, a side of Maduros, and ceviche to share Since I'm pregnant, I didnt try the ceviche, but my sisters said it was good. We had 2 whole chickens to share. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The green sauce was delicious as well, and wasn't overwhelmingly spicy. My sister who doesn't like spice was able to tolerate it. The fries and sausage were decent. Our kids ate them. Maduros- sweet and pretty good. One of the combos came with a liter soda but we don't drink soda so we asked if we can replace it with juice. I also got a huge order of calamari which was cooked to perfection! The green aji sauce at this place is spicy and has a nice consistency to it! The staff was nice and service was quick. Got the Millennium Combo #2 (whole chicken with rice and beans, $17). Not bad flavor, but slightly salty. Chicken was cooked well but not overly juicy. Rice was a little sad since it came in a short but wide rectangular styrofoam takeout box, so when you open it, just a wide spread of plainness. Beans were a miss for me - salty, too whole (if that makes sense), just sitting in liquid. Usually like it at least half mushed and less liquid. Desperately needed some greens - wasn't balanced. ~ Was craving some Peruvian rice and chicken, and found this place on Yelp. Was trying to decide between the quarter chicken special (1/4 chicken with choice of rice & beans, or fries & salad for $7.50), or one of the whole chicken combos (same options as 1/4 chicken except with a whole chicken for $17). Was slightly confused about the contents of the salad from the menu - the picture of the combo had a salad with sliced avocado on top, but the picture of the quarter chicken meal had a picture of salad without avocado... but I'm guessing the missing avocado was not a mistake. Ended up going with the whole chicken with the rice and beans (Millennium Combo #2) but hated having choosing between the sides. Wished they had a combo that offered the rice & beans AND fries and salad. (I know I could've just ordered the sides separately; most of their sides cost $3.50, and rice and beans count as separate sides so not sure if it'd would've been with it.).. or at least made the rice and beans one side, and had it come with a salad. Sent the husband in and had him order. He said there was only one waitress working, but he said she was nice and he didn't have to wait too long to order. Our food was ready in about 10-15 mins. We ate everything at home about 20 mins later. The rice was cold but the chicken was still somewhat warm. At first glance, the beans, which came in a small plastic container, looked different than I was used to. It was whole beans just sitting in liquid. The rice came in a short and wide styrofoam container, so when you open it, it's a little disappointing since it's just a wide spread of plain whiteness. I think it would've been better if it came in a smaller container.. maybe something that was airtight so it could've been at least lukewarm. Not sure if they give you a bigger portion of rice when you order it as a side (rather than with a combo) but I don't think it would've been worth $3.50.. (I had thought a bit about value of the combo vs meal since a whole chicken with no sides is $12, so you're saving just $2 by ordering the combo.) The chicken came in a taller styrofoam container, and was cut into quarters and smelled really good. I ended up taking the skin off the chicken since it was too salty for me.. though I generally don't eat chicken skin anyway (blasphemy, I know) - most of the skin still had a layer of fat so meh. Some of the flavor had penetrated the chicken itself so it was fine. The chicken was cooked well - the dark meat was of course juicier, the white meat was borderline - could've been a bit juicier.. but still a lot better than anything I could've made. The rice was hard to pick up with the fork since it was cold and dry so the morsels basically fell apart. Really needed the rice here though, since the beans were so salty. Not sure if they soaked the beans (long enough) since my husband, who always eats a lot more than I do, tooted all night long lol, so that was a nice surprise. Wasn't fan of the texture as mentioned above - I actually ended up mashing half the beans which made it a lot better. Was an ok meal overall. I've definitely had better, but this satisfied the craving. read more

Although the food was okay, the service was complete garbage; they got three orders wrong; they served one dish at a time. On top of that they brought out the main course like 2 seconds after they brought out the appetizers.(these are the new owners as of 2/24/20) The old owners were great they never messed up my order; they would bring out the appetizers as well as the main course all at once we had no problems at all. Just got my dish after 30 minutes after the rest of my family got theirs and they didn't even get the dish right they completely got it wrong. Literally burger king would be better than waiting 30 minutes for an order that isn't even right never coming back, if you like Peruvian food please go to the millennium chicken in valley stream. The food is usually really good. My last and most recent visit to this restaurant is what has caused me to no longer frequent Chevere. When I came across this quaint restaurant, I was ready to claim this as my go to spot for Peruvian food. I always ordered to go. The first time, the food was spot on. The second time, the food was ok, the chicken was a bit dry, but it was still good. My last visit here eliminated any chance of me ever coming back. I always order the special with the 1/4 chicken with rice and beans. As I was waiting, I happed to look towards the back where the guy who was cutting up the vegetables was located. What I saw completely made me reconsider even paying for my order, but I didn't order any salad or anything, so I stuck with it. The guy in the back began to cut up the vegetables, he had no gloves on and I'm not even sure if he washed his hands, but he looked at the knife he was using. I guess he saw something on it and instead of washing it off or using something clean to wipe it off, he had the nerve to wipe it on his black shirt like it was nothing. That just completely turned me off and made me look at things differently. So yeah, I won't be coming back. EVER! I definitely would not reccomend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Ok so ive ordered from Chevere several times before but my last order i had to leave a review. I typically order ceviche de camarones which has A LOT of shrimp, corn, red onion and other things and is delicious. However, i recently ordered a whole chicken, ceviche, chicken soup and salad. The restaurant immediately called me and stated they didnt have chicken soup but i didnt answer my phone so they refunded. When i had called back, the woman was very friendly and offered different options of soup so i went with the beef soup which i had never had. Everything was so delicious but the beef soup was PHENOMENAL. The beef was cut very small but there was plenty and no gooey fat on any of the pieces. The flavor was amazing, not salty and just full of flavor. I absolutely love this place, their service and food is to die for. read more

I ordered food from Chevere A La Brasa tonight off seamless. I got the whole chicken, a salad, and the 1/4 chicken with rice and beans. The food came very fast, less than 30 minutes and was nice and hot when it got to the door. The delivery driver was very polite - another plus! The salad was nice and fresh, not wilted at all. They gave plenty of dressing on the side. The chicken was delicious! Nice and juicy, with tremendous flavor. Excellent service, the food is like the grandma's kitchen kind and the location is great for us...we live in nextdoor Merrick and usually get it though Grubhub, there's nothing better than having it right out of the pan, nice and hot..top of the line ingredients, everything from scratch and is fresh.....we had Anticuchos, sopa a la minuta, lomo saltado and tallarines verdes with steak...InkaCola and a bit pitcher of chicha...OMG so delicious....pur waitress from Venezuela was a sweetheart...so happy to have a great Peruvian restaurant near us....we don't have to travel to queens anymore!!!
