I am very disappointed with the service at this gas station. Today, my wife and daughter stopped by to get gas and waited approximately 15 minutes for the pump to be activated. My wife went inside three separate times to ask for assistance, but nothing was done. It was only after she called me for help and the attendant noticed she was on the phone that the pump was finally activated. This is unacceptable customer service. People come to a gas station because they are busy and need quick, efficient service. No customer should have to wait that long or repeatedly ask for help just to purchase fuel. In addition, about two weeks ago, I stopped at this same gas station to buy gas and attempted to pay with cash. The attendant refused my bill, claiming he did not have enough change. In all my years of purchasing gas, I have never experienced this issue at any other station. I live only a few minutes away and would prefer to support this business, but these repeated experiences have left me feeling unwelcome and concerned that I am being treated differently from other customers. I am writing to formally report a pattern of racially discriminatory behavior I have experienced and witnessed at the Chevron convenience store located in Irvine, California. This behavior has been carried out by the store's new manager, an Asian male whose name I have obtained from store staff. Background I have been a regular customer at this Chevron location since relocating to Irvine, previously giving the store a five-star review due to positive experiences with the majority of the staff. However, over the past month, my experience has changed significantly following the arrival of a new manager. Description of Incidents The following incidents have occurred repeatedly over the past month: The manager consistently and visibly watches me and my children whenever we enter the store, monitoring our every move in a manner that is intimidating and humiliating. I have observed this same behavior directed at other Black customers when they enter the store, indicating a clear pattern of racial profiling. On one occasion, I was seated in a vehicle while a friend went inside. I personally witnessed the manager surveilling my friend at the soda machine while non Black customers including individuals visibly placing merchandise in their pockets -- were not monitored. I after a walk to purchase a cold beverage. While I was engaged in a brief, casual conversation with a cashier, the manager came from the back of the store and positioned himself between me and the cashier without excusing himself, interrupting our interaction without cause. Once I moved to the checkout line, the manager briefly stared at me, then returned to the back of the store immediately after I completed my transaction and exited. This strongly suggests his presence at the register was motivated by surveillance of me, not by any legitimate business purpose. Impact This ongoing treatment is deeply dehumanizing. I am a paying customer who has patronized this establishment consistently and in good faith. Being surveilled as a presumed threat in front of my children based on nothing more than my race is a violation of my dignity and my civil rights. Despite giving this manager the benefit of the doubt over multiple visits, the pattern of behavior has been consistent, deliberate, and unmistakable. Please be advised that I am filing this complaint with multiple agencies, including the California Civil Rights Department, the Orange County Human Relations Commission, and Chevron corporate customer service. We will not go back here. Credit cards suspiciously do not work at the pumps. On a Sunday night, went to get gas here for the first time (usually don't go here bc it's a little expensive). The machine "wasn't working" for credit cards outside at the pump, so had to go inside. When asked about why the pumps outside don't accept credit cards, the clerk mumbled incoherently and took the card for payment. Within a few days, the bank sent an alert for fraudulent activity on the card. Had to cancel and wait for new cards and all of that hassle. The only new place the credit card was used where the machine wasn't tugged on and tested before insterting the card in the reader was this location. Please be careful everyone, do not let your cards out of your control and test the card readers before inserting your card. read more

This gas station is located in the same plaza as the Wholesome Choice. I put the card in the machine and it dispensed gas properly. The price of the gas here was more than 20 cents per gallon more than the Mobil on Paseo Westpark. If the reason for them charging more is because they are closer to the freeway exit, I don't think it's within the line of sight from the northbound 405 exit. read more

This is an overpriced gas station. But - it's convenient. That's how I end up here. Trust me, it's not because I WANT to pay more than if I were to drive 2 miles down the road, but sometimes that's just how the cookie crumbles. If you are trying to leave the station and head toward Newport, good luck. It is very difficult to get out of the station and make a U-turn at the light. It can be done - but do have some patience. I like this Chevron location - yes I know it's a gas station, what's so great about it? Considering how tight the spaces/lanes are for most gas stations, this one has big lanes and you don't feel like you're going to hit another car moving around at all. There are plenty of pumps, it's located near a major street with plenty of entrances as well. The station is well-lit at night so even though it's Irvine, you still feel relatively safe pumping your gas. The store is well-stocked and the staff have always been friendly and helpful with anything I might need. Food/snacks and coffee taste relatively fresh. read more

There really isn't anything special about this gas station. The gas is usually more expensive than at other Chevrons in Irvine by about 5 cents. It gets reallyyy crowded sometimes. It's right on the corner of a busy intersection and can sometimes be really difficult to get out of the gas station because of the traffic. The staff is super friendly though! I don't normally write reviews for gas stations, because come on, they are gas stations. But I felt like I should tell someone about this incident that I had at this particular station. Because it could easily be replicated. I was a regular customer at this particular station for a while, but a couple months ago, someone ended up switching the hoses on the pumps. Literally just picked the handle up and switched what side each of the hoses were on. They both are connected on the same side of the pump, with very long hoses, so easy to see how they could be switched around. So when I stuck my credit card in to pay for gas, the guy on the other side started pumping gas into his truck. I had no idea what was going on. The thought of this happening had never even occurred to me. He took off before I could put two and two together. I thought the pump was broken because it yesterday not gave me half a tank, which must be what he paid for. The reason I am only giving two stars, is because the guy who was on duty the night it happened, was very very unhelpful. He tried to convince me that it was my fault, and I was lying about how much gas I had gotten even though I showed him my car and what the tank read. I was able to come back the next morning and speak with the manager, who was slightly more friendly, but still not very helpful. Luckily, there was someone from the company who is out to check another broken pump at the same station. He ended up checking the pump for me, and figured out what had happened. I ended up having to contest the charge, which was annoying. But at least it solved the issue. So just beware when you are pumping gas, and make sure that you're pumping from the right side! Lesson learned. I haven't been back here since the incident... and I have noticed that most other stations position their hoses on opposite sides...hmmm. read more

I've been having some bad luck with tires recently. Two nails in the same tire over the last couple of months! Luckily for me this Chevron is close to home. If you're low on air or water, Come to this chevron. The machine is free! Other places charge you 75 cents or a dollar! And what if you don't finish inflating your tires? Another dollar! C'mon! I was in my work vehicle and in need of gas as I traveled down the 405 south. I figured exiting on Culver Blvd sounded like a good spot to locate a gas station and I was right. Upon exiting the freeway I could clearly see a Chevron Station in the distance. The Chevron was on the opposite side of the street but left hand turn lanes were available to pull in quickly. The Gas Station and selection of pumps was quite large. The gas prices were reasonable for the inflated prices that are beginning to rise again. I was able to use my work credit card without any problems at the pump and able to obtain a receipt at the pump which is another plus. After I finished filling up I walked into the attached 'EM Mile' store attached to the Chevron and found it to be quite large with a wide range of products to choose from food, drink, motor oil, you name it they probably stocked it. They offered Lottery which is always a major plus is my book. I wanted to use the bathroom after filling up and found the bathroom to be clean, there was quite a bit of graffiti on the sink, toilet seat & mirror all etched it and it looked quite tacky especially for the area. I exited the store got back in my vehicle and with a right turn out of the lot I was headed back on the 405 south maybe within 30 seconds. I am on the road a lot and the convenience / accessibility of the gas station right off of the 405 means I will be back. This gas station would have received 5 stars if it wasn't for the tagged up bathroom. That is kind of in and out of their control. I think for the area of Irvine this Gas station is located they need to do something about the bathroom. read more

A common problem with Chevron gas stations is they have a sensor on the nozzle and if you don't get a 100% seal it will shut off. I could not get a seal so I could not fill up my tank all the way and that's okay I'll go somewhere else to finish it off Cheveron lost about $50 today but I'm sure they're losing hundreds if not thousands a day with this method that's following the law but their sensors are too sensitive and they're losing money read more

HORRIFYING CUSTOMER SERVICE! We have been mistreated a few times at this particular station. Yesterday(12.29.18 around 3pm) my husband and I(a young black couple) were refused service for no legitimate reason! My husband, who had his ID, was trying to purchase alcohol. I was asked for my ID even though i was not purchasing the alcohol. I'm 26 & my husband is 23. I refused because I felt like I didn't need to because I was not the one purchasing the alcohol, even though I did help carry it to the counter. After trying to calmly talk to the cashier(Neil) we decided to not get the alcohol and proceed with purchasing food, water, and tobacco(which i did not touch.) THIS IS WHEN WE WERE REFUSED SERVICE. Neil literally said "you are trying to prove a point, trying to prove me wrong" and THEN HE DEYNED US SERVICE! We were there for 30min trying to calmy talk to this cashier and he was getting more upset thinking that we just wanted to prove him wrong. We then went to a different cashier,who was new, and Neil threatened him saying that if he(new cashier) served us, then he(Neil) we speak to someone and would get the new cashier in trouble. After some time we showed BOTH cahsiers our IDs and the new cashier was going to ring us up after scanning our IDs and check if there were legit. Even after complying, we were still refused service.
