The man who closed the chevron gas station on the night of September 10th 2025 at around 10 pm deserves a raise and everything good in the world. I didn't get his name, he was white, wore glasses. He was so incredibly sweet and genuine and went out of his way to help me. I really hope he sees this or management does and gives him some sort of recognition because he really deserves it. My usual refill spot is the Trabuco General Store, down by O'Neil Park. Unfortunately they were closed this Sunday so I had to go elsewhere. I knew the Chevron across from Trabuco Hills Highschool had a propane tank, so may as well give them a try..... ProTip: Do not refill your propane here. Why? I was there Sunday, May 19th 2024 with a tank that was perhaps 2-3 gallons short. I asked if they refill tanks on a Sunday - yes, but you have to prepay for 5 gallons first before they refill - roughly $22.00. OK, I thought that if it was 2-3 gallons I'd get a refund. No, you do not get a refill. If your tank is empty, you pay for 5 gallons of course. If your tank is short 1 - 4 gallons, you are forced to pay for all 5 gallons. The attendant said "we don't change the meter, everyone pays for 5 gallons minimum". Wish I had known that in advance. This was a $9-$12.00 lesson learned. The older man working the counter around 7:00 PM today was incredibly rude. His behavior was completely uncalled for, especially since I was simply asking for assistance. I'm genuinely confused, because he was exceptionally kind and attentive to the two people in front of me and the person behind me, yet I didn't receive the same level of courtesy. Initially, I let some of his comments slide, but it's clear that someone with his attitude is not suited for a customer-facing role. His lack of professionalism was not only apparent, but also embarrassing, especially coming from his old ahh generation that values respect, courtesy, and a strong work ethic. I'm probably around the same age as his grandkids, and it's unfortunate that they have a grandpa like him, because he's raising a bloodline of people who may think this behavior is acceptable. It's a shame that a lack of basic respect and professionalism could be passed down as an example to the next generation. He really needs to take a step back and reconsider how he interacts with people--it was an entirely unnecessary and unpleasant experience in which I ended up leaving in the process and took my money to another gas station. Should've gone to college, buddy. It was cheaper when you were my age. read more

Tried to get a propane tank filled and they told me the minimum was $22. I had a small 2.5 gallon portable tank that needed just one gallon. The meter at the pump indicated 1 gallon was pumped in. Total ripoff!!!!! Propane is only $4.25/ gallon. It's cheaper to do a 5 gallon tank swap at Home Depot, Walmart, or basically ANYWHERE else. Good luck even trying to discuss rationally with the staff. The foreigners barely speak English. Take your business somewhere else. read more

Lady ignored me for a few mins while she loaded cigarettes into her display. Told me code for air yet there is no code you have to pay. Stopped today to get the propane tank on my van filled. For safety, the onboard propane tank should be filled at 80% of the total capacity which came out to be 4 gallons. The attendant pointed at a sign indicating a minimum of 5 gallons. What a ripoff! And they have a garage. I would double check any repairs should anyone take their vehicle to these people for repairs. Beware! read more

I went in to have 5 lpg tanks filled. I obviously interrupted an important sporting event that the attendant was watching because I was told it was 6:32 and I needed to be there by 6:00. I told him I would go elsewhere, which I did and spent over $90.00 that they missed out on. Although this station is convenient I will take my business other places including fuel. I have been a Chevron card holder for over 30 years and never been more disappointed from an interaction until tonight. This station is filthy and poorly run. read more

Slowest car wash of ALL TIME. Don't stop here if you have somewhere to be. They have 2 guys drying and all their other employees hiding. What a joke. I've been sitting here looking at my truck for 20 mins and that's after the wash.... No one is drying it. Why bother. Save yourself the aggravation. This review is for the car wash. Literally the WORST customer service ever! Took my car in for a wash, the guy who started on my car hyped up the special of the day "42.99" for the best bang for your buck so I agreed. They quoted me 45minutes which was fine, I waited an hour and half which I still had no issue with since they were pretty busy at the time I arrived. Then when they finished I tipped the guy and got in my car only to notice that my passenger and driver seats were stained with an oily looking substance that was visibly still wet (aka it wasn't from me). I got back out of the car and asked the guy who was working on my car to come look at it. He walked over, looked at it, said oh no I'm sorry then grabbed a bottle of cleaner and proceeded to spray down the seats and tried to wipe the stains off. Needless to say all he did was spread around whatever oily wet substance they had gotten on my seats which caused the stains to spread even farther. I asked to speak to a manager and when he came out he basically argued with me, refused to speak with me, and told me that they would not be doing anything to fix the situation. I am a very reasonable person and I also work in the service industry so I understand that accidents and mistakes happen, we are all human. However, when mistakes are made the right thing to do is correct the situation or find a way to rectify it if it cannot be fixed, it's called good customer service. The manager was extremely rude and I am absolutely disgusted by this type of service. I will NEVER return here. Save yourself the frustration and find a detailing service that actually takes pride in their work. read more

I went to the Chevron on Santa Margarita Pkwy in Mission Viejo. I bought some gas for Diana's car. While I was there, I decided to buy a few items: a small bag of dry roasted almonds, one large banana nut muffin, and a value size bag of tropical mix, which is cholesterol free! The store was well stocked and clean, and the cashier was nice and friendly. I had no problem buying gas and the food. Greg and his team of mechanics are one of Southern Orange County best hidden gem in Auto mechanics. I had an emergency repair needed on my Ford explorer, and they took care of it without a problem on the SAME DAY! with reasonable and affordable price. So then I took my wife's Mitsubishi Lancer for a long over due maintenance and an AC compressor replacement and once again they took care of it right away with reasonable and affordable price. Now the air conditioning is ICE COLD during summer time =). I never found an Auto Shop that I am happy with and will be continue to doing business with them. My dad has been using a mechanic for 16 years. He needed new front brakes and rotors and he had a little water leak. His long time mechanic gave him a quote for a new water pump, brakes and rotors for $1100. My brother used Portola Chevron and liked the service so I asked Greg if he could assess the car based on the original quote from my dads long time mechanic. He did confirm it needed new front brakes and rotors but he found that it was a defective thermostat gasket was the cause of the water leak. His mechanic was able to get me on the road for only $420. Needless to say the mechanic that gave us a $1100 estimate will not be seeing us anymore. Thanks Greg I appreciate your integrity read more

I've been taking my cars to Greg for over 15 years. He is absolutely the most honest mechanic I have ever dealt with. On many occasions he has repaired my vehicle at his cost and many times at no charge. He stands behind his work and his mechanics are great as well, he will tell you how it is, if it's not worth repairing, he tells you, unlike other repair facilities that just take your money, just for your car to break down again with some other expensive repair. Came here recently to fill up gas while in the area, and may definitely think about trying another gas station nearby. I was caught off-guard while I was filling up my tank by a salesperson from Chevron wanting to show me a new product that will keep my windows and paint job shiny and deter fingerprints. I am one that doesn't like to be approached or solicited by salespeople, and will try to avoid them at all costs, so I didn't appreciate having to take the time to listen to his spiel about why to purchase this product. What happened to the old days where you could just pull in, fill up your tank, then leave? You can't duplicate the kind of genuine service that you get from Greg and his team. He's come out of the office to help me with my car has been broken down and not asked for anything in return... I almost felt like he left before I can even offer something. It was after getting quoted a huge amount for what should have been a simple alternator issue, that he took my car in to him. My vehicle is sort of a specialty vehicle, and the costs and price run up quick whenever something has gone wrong. Greg not only got it done, he communicated with me the whole way. He was fair about his assessment, his prices were fair and did not egregiously run up. My Brother in law works for the same dealership maker for my vehicle, and he was surprised about how straight up and honest Greg was. Siting that jobs like what had to be done on my specific car are where mechanics make their living in running up the prices. Greg did it right, and I believe he did all he could to actually take care of me and my family in a time of need. It's people of that caliber of person that encourages me to have faith in people, and should be an example as a leader in genuine integrity for most. read more

Last week I went to get a car wash, I decided on the $10 car wash and it didn't clean my car at all. I brought it up to the owners attention and he said " If your car is so dirty then why did you get the $10 car wash." So basically if your car is DIRTY don't get a car wash and if it's CLEAN go for it. Horrible customer service. would not recommend if your car is semi-dirty. LOL very embarrassing. read more

I've never reviewed a gas station in my life but this one SUCKS. 3 pumps with NO gas (no out of service sign), one with an out of service sign. The one that worked took literally 18 mins to fill a tank. Trash is everywhere. Just run! read more

Greg always takes great care of my 2006 Chrysler Sebring convertible and does it quickly and at a fair price. I'm always very happy with his work. Once my engine light went on, so I brought it in and when I returned, it turned out that the gas cap wasn't on properly. No charge for this one! Nice guy! read more

Went here to use the Auto Shop to get my electrical system fixed. The work was done quickly and efficiently. The guy at the front, Greg, was really nice and seemed like an honest man. The only reason I can't give it a 5 is because the employees left dirty hand prints on my steering wheel and on the panel on the inside of my door. I get it, dirty hands are a by product of the job. However, I think being conscious of the cleanliness of a customers car is important. Wear gloves! I would definitely come back here though. AAA certified as well. read more

2/10/20 7:45am Justin- Technician. Not only was I in a rush and had to be at work, dropping my teens at school, I had to stop and put air in my tire. Justin saw that I was taking quite some time with my son to do it. He said, if that's not working, you can pump air here. I went to him with my car, and he offered to help. He asked what happened. I said in a rushed manner, I have a nail in my tire and need to just put air until I go to my dealership after work to get it fixed. He said I can do this for you quickly. I let him. He did it well and quick. He made nice small talk and asked about my weekend. I paid for it and I was very thankful. I made it to work on time and felt absolutely blessed by Justin's -- attention to a person struggling, offering help, extremely friendly personality, genuine care, expertise by fixing my issue quickly, and wished me well for the rest of my day. You have no idea what a relief this stressful situation was for me. There's more to my day that was already stressful that is not written here. Justin's simple act of honest, caring, assistance and service absolutely relieved my stress! We need more "Justin" humans in this busy and full life. Thank you for hiring him. Keep him.
