Food is pretty good. Chips n salsa were good. We then ordered table side guac, it took a long time for our waiter to bring it out... Along with everything else. I am not waiting for check/change for over 20 min. And the place isn't very busy at all. I've been coming here for a few years now. The décor has definitely improved in that time. The food is good depending on what you're getting, and the drinks are pretty solid. However, the service is severely lacking. Entire sections of the restaurant will go unnoticed by wait staff for upwards of 15 minutes. I used to work in the service industry, so I understand if you're weeded, but this is just straight negligence. The price point has increased, but the quality of service has not. Aside from that, if you're not getting a dish with tamalito on it, you're doing yourself a disservice. read more

I went here a few months ago for a date with my boyfriend and left so hungry and upset. I love tex-mex food and was really excited to eat here but it was a huge disappointment. Our waitress gave us pretty bad service too which didn't help. At the time they had a special for a lasagna (I don't see it on their online menu anymore so it may have been removed). The "lasagna" was the size of microwaveable ramen and it was just pasta and lukewarm sauce with some cheese. I thought it came with sides and ordered them but never received them. When I asked for them I was told this plate didn't have sides and that I could buy them separately. This is what really annoyed me because had I known this beforehand I wouldn't have ordered such an expensive plate. Food was tasteless and overpriced. Not a place I'd recommend, go to Jose Tejas instead. read more

I would deff say Mediocre kind of Tex Mex food. If you want heart burn than I would recommend this place but not the best quality. Been here a few times, not impressed with the food. I find the food to be just "OK", the wait staff is usually friendly. Usually it has not been busy leaving a lot of time for the staff to fool around and have full on conversation right by the table not really caring about the fact customers are there to have dinner and not listen to them. The queso is a BIG NO, on the other hand the place has good drinks. I would recommend this is a place for a few drinks and I guess appetizers but if your looking for impressive food not the place. Terrible service , waited 15 for just to ask how man people I'm with (2) plenty of open tables. Then waited another 40 minutes for the food. Waitress was more worried about other things then her tables. Food portions are extremely small and not to filling. I'd rather next time just wait the normal hour wait for Jose tejas 5 miles down the block. read more

I honestly could have and would gave given it more starts but lately Chevys has been going down hill. My bf and I were obsessed with this place, we came at least monthly if not more. During our last few visits they began to take a few items off the menu but that's not a big deal. But the last time we went and got the 4 item combo, one of the items tasted terribly. Instead of a "salsa" like sauce, it was purse tomato paste which is bitter. We asked the waiter if this was a new sauce and he didn't seem to know. We asked for it to be replaced and it still wasn't ok. We wanted to speak to the manager but he kept sending the waiter back and forth. So I guess he was afraid or didn't want to take care of what he was there for. That was our last visit which I am sad out because I loved it. Other than that the sweet corn is amazing. Maybe one day we'll give it one more try. read more

Went there because we wanted Mexican & Jose Tejas had an hour & a half wait. I would have rather waited out the hour & a half if I would of known this place sucked so bad!!!! We ordered apps & then had to wait about 10 minutes to get plates & silverware. We ordered fajitas, which usually come out sizzling & was not hot at all!!!! It's your average mexican food chain. The salsa is really good, everything else is very average. Chevys is nothing compared to Jose Tejas. If you're looking for authentic tex-mex for cheap, Jose Tejas is the place to be. read more

Let me start off by saying I am NOT a fan of Franchise restaurants but again I have been defeated by my ignorance. During peek time for dinner we unluckily had a difficult time finding a spot that would accommodate us. Initially we had went to a nearby eatery only to be turned away for reasons beyond our control (over crowded/ 2 hour + wait) we decided to go to Chili's :) I phoned in to ask the waiting time and was told not to worry they would have a seat for us. We got there just in time and was welcomed by the hostess America. She walked us to our awaiting table (set silverware/ Napkins and menus. Not something I had expected but definitely above the standards I had for them. She was so very pleasant and made sure to hold our table. We were so grateful and ready to eat. Our server Jena was so very sweet, a bit shy but precise. She took our order with not one mishap. We ate like kings and the food was Fabulously DELICIOUS... everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. I for one can't wait to return. I loved the sample platter, shrimp salad and the fajitas chicken and steak. Kudos to all the staff that take pride in serving us crazy patrons. Forgetting a previous disappointment at another location a few years ago, I ventured again at Chevys in this location hoping it will be different. Indeed, it was different. The decor is ho hum, bare floors, larger bar area than restaurant, I thought. We waited 15 min or so and were seated. The chairs had crumb of chips and crayons from previous visitors, whihc we had to ask to be cleared. The menu is a bunch of different folded cards which makes it a little difficult to choose the almost non-existent veg. items. I chose a combo with a 'Artichoke and Mushroom Enchilada with a Chipotle Cream Sauce'. When the meal arrived a long 30-40 minutes later, the enchilada had not a single piece of the veg inside. It was enviably slim (if you are a dieter) and had the same sauce inside and out, nothing else. My wife had the same and it was stuffed with a few bits of potatoes. Also, we were charged a dollar more to make her taco vegetarian. Ever heard of such a thing? A child in our party had her burrito meal served with a cup of black beans, instead of the fruit and fries mentioned in the menu. So, I feel that the restaurant was a) running out of food, b) is staffed by highly unskilled labor c)management does not care, because there is nothing much around this large shopping/cinema complex. I chose not to complain there as the rice and beans were chewy and salty respectively and I was not hoping of any improvement to the meal from this place. To make it uniformly disappointing, my wife's tall house margarita at $9 was almost devoid of tequilla and she felt not the slightest effect of a large alcoholic drink. I am writing this, to reinforce to myself, never to go to this place again EVER! read more

If I could give them 0 starts, I would. My husband and I had such a horrible experience here. The last time we came here, the service was slow. Our waiter even forgot about us half way through our meal! Before I get there, let me start from the beginning. We walked in and there was no wait (there usually never is). We were seated immediately. We ordered our food and of course it was dry. The rice was dry, nothing had flavor, it was all bland. We were hoping desert was going to bring the rating up. The dessert was pretty good, and it would've increased their rating, if the waiter didn't forget about us! After we ate our dessert, we kept looking around for the waiter to pay our bill and leave but he was nowhere in sight. Finally he walked right past our table, and I thought he was going to bring us our check but he walked right past us and didn't even acknowledge us! Our plates and drinks were empty! It was clear we were done. About 20 minutes after that, he finally brought us the check. The following morning, my husband called the restaurant to speak to the manager to advise him of our horrible visit. The manager said he was just the day manager and he'd have the night manager call us since it happened during his shift. That was about 8 weeks ago. Still no phone call yet. I am disappointed with my experience at Chevy's in Linden. Tables were sticky and covered in crayon drawings from previous child diners. Waiter was very attentive although he did not bring everybody waters and somebody was missing a silverware set. We asked if the guacamole (they make it at your table) contained salt, and he said no, but it was super salty. Primarily I am writing this review because my order came about 10-15 minutes after everybody else's at my table. The waiter apologized and said something to the extent of "sorry, they just don't make that dish often so they messed it up." What was my dish, you ask? A bean and cheese burrito and a vegetable burrito. This is possibly the easiest thing to make out of everybody else's orders? Clearly this is not the fault of the waiter, but of the kitchen staff. Having a dish come after everybody else has already finished their meals entirely unacceptable. Additionally, nothing was done on their part for damage control. I would have appreciated more than a simple "sorry" from the waiter, because my dining experience was ruined. As far as the food quality goes ( for my vegetarians out there), I would definitely recommend getting the farmers market fajita instead of the combo deal with bean and/or veggie burritos because the burritos (when they in fact finally arrived) contained the exact same black beans from a can that they filled the rest of the plate with as a side dish. read more

Reviews these days have been taken way out of context of its original purpose, so I'll say this for my 2 stars. My overall experiences here including this last one has never been a great one from beginning to end. At this point I will say I just don't feel my business is appreciated. The fact I chose this location to eat in an area where there are several other nearby places to go even in walking distance, did not make a difference. It's not about the money, it's the value of the dining experience. I never can leave saying I enjoyed going there. read more

i was very shocked by a lot of the reviews. i've never seen anything less than great in thin place. i come with my mom whenever we are in the mood for mexican food and GREAT margaritas. oh yea and great service as well. i always go. and always laugh with my mom. we have fun. so last night, sunday night my mother and i went before the movies and our waiter Torian was awesome. he made sure everything was great the food made sure we had napkins and even sugar vs salf around the margarita glass. my first time seeing him but will look for him again. and they also have a bartender name Kalaya who we see all the time we go. ive been to many bars in jersey and also ny but she definitely made one of my drinks like ive never had it b4. SO TO ME GREAT PLACE. THEY HAVE GREAT FOOD AND DRINKS. MOST OF ALL GREAT STAFF. Thats a great atmosphere to me. :-) read more
