Hands down 5 stars! This is one of the best bagel shops in the area based on shop space, cleanliness, service and food. It fit all the boxes. It is definitely a local favorite, so sometimes seating is a challenge just like parking. It happens to be in the small parking lot in Carytown where there are usually 6-7 cars ( Did you get it?) looking endlessly for a space or just blocking everyone else. You always have the option to just park on Cary Street. It is worth it. On this visit, we had to try the Lox Bagel Sandwich on an Asiago bagel which comes in this cute box that if you detach its corner, it can transform into a plate. You're welcome. Anyways, the fresh dill on it is good. I love how they make it into 2 open-faced bagels with the goods. Feels like you got a 2 for 1 deal. Worth a try. The next one was recommended by the cashier. I always ask for recommendation or what's popular. He said to try the Swiss Melt on an Asiago bagel. Wow! You don't even taste the onions because they're caramelized and paired with fig jam. Chef kiss. It has a sweetness to it, but not overpowering if that makes sense. The coffee is great and they have at least 3 flavors to try. Definitely coming back over and over again. read more

One of my favorite bagel spots in RVA! Always tastes fresh with the perfect outer crust and chewy/soft interior. They have a plethora of flavors with our favorites a simple salted bagel and the rosemary salted bagel. The bagel sandwiches - specifically their breakfast sammies are definitely the way to go here and you can customize with add-ons and choice of cream cheeses. They have a wide selection of cream cheeses and seasonal varieties. The basic bagel and cream cheese combo here I find too heavy on the cream cheese almost off putting but I'm sure that's just my preference and probably could ask for light smear if wanted. Lines can get long on the weekends but service has always been very fast!! read more

So glad I finally had the opportunity to try this place. Arrive before 9am to avoid the super long line (but if you have to wait, it's definitely worth it). I live around the corner so it's one of those neighborhood things you do, stopping by and get a bagel in the morning. And it's growing on me. I grew up eating NY bagels and it's still the one thing I do when I go back. Bagels outside of NY never seemed to do the job. So the idea of sourdough bagel was not what I expected. Yet Chewy's made it work. The chewiness is on point! I also like their roasted garlic cream cheese. There is always a line since they open Wed to Sunday. I came here specifically for the bagels, and they did not disappoint. Even though the place was pretty busy, I was impressed by how quickly I got my order. I got the Swiss melt; which was really good! I love a sweet salty combo. Prices were reasonable, and the staff was genuinely kind and welcoming. I had a great vegan experiejce at Chewy's this morning! My sesame bagel with vegan cream cheese and capers was wonderful. The bagels are really good. Not quite NY style but hey, we're in Virginia. They're crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside though which absolutely hits the spot as someone from the NorthEast! All their bagels are vegan **besides Asiago and choc chip (obviously if they have a suspicious weekly special bagel just ask). I visited Chuy's for my first time and was not disappointed. I went on a Sunday morning. It was packed! The line was to the door. I observed you're able to place an order at the register or do a mobile online pick up, the latter being the route I may take next time. As for this visit I was ready to order by the time I made it to the register. The lady who cashed me out was friendly. You're provided with a ticket that has your number and you just wait for it to be called. There were maybe 5-6 tables inside and a couple bistro tables outside, but I got my order to go as it was so busy. The bagel itself was phenomenal. I ordered the sea salt and rosemary bagel with scallion cream cheese. It was packed to the brim with cream cheese. My was around $5 dollars, but it so well worth it. You can tell the bread was fresh. I had really high expectations for Chewy's from all the raving things I've heard. It seemed to be like any other bagel shop to me, good but nothing to run home about. I went on a Saturday around noon and there was a short line and wait. All the seating areas were filled. They sold out of maybe half the bagel options. They do have an online order option if you don't want to wait and/or risk your preference being sold out. I really liked the rosemary sea salt bagel with scallion cream cheese. I don't use rosemary often so it made me reminiscent of Thanksgiving. It was too chewy though until I toasted it. I didn't enjoy the breakfast sammie as much. It was extremely greasy and in the photo you can see the outer bagel is soaked in grease. Overall I will continue the search for a bagel to satisfy my NY craving but I also wouldn't be opposed to coming back. read more

It's a great option for anyone who likes bagels but is gluten sensitive, but gluten sensitivity aside the bagel taste amazing and are toasted to perfection. Here you can make your own combination of ingredients or choose any of their specialty bagel sandwiches. You can also grab a bags of any of their bagel flavors such a plain, everything bagel, marble rye, and more. There's also a refrigerator section filled with house made cream cheese. The freshness and quality of the ingredients is unmatched. My favorite combination is a plain bagel with cheddar cheese, an egg, and fresh dill. If you're craving something sweet try some of their cookies, muffins, or monkey bread. The location overall is quite small with only a few seating options inside and a couple tables outside. The park is available on the street. If you don't want to worry about finding a chair or having to wait in line for a bagel (which is quite typical especially on the weekends) I suggest ordering online so you can swing in and grab & go. Pretty easy parking, line is long but they are very efficient getting people through and fed. Vibe: busy, loud and limited seating but we were able to get a table for our girls Sunday brunch and boy what an experience. The only negative is they call your order over a loud crowd and it's hard to hear but we made due. Service: amazing on a busy Sunday! The cashier was super patient and helpful in navigating the menu. I had been craving the egg and sausage, so I settled for a simple blueberry bagel with cinnamon cream cheese and also ordered an iced vanilla latte for a caffeine boost. Chewy's does make very good bagels, that's the reason I've continued to come back. Unfortunately, the customer service has been consistently poor, and after multiple experiences, it's hard to justify returning. There's an ongoing attitude here that customers are inconveniences rather than people being served. It often feels like they're doing you a favor simply by allowing you to order. Two experiences stand out: On one visit, my mother was dealing with a medical issue and urgently needed to eat. We arrived while the store was still open, with about 10 minutes until closing. Even after calmly explaining the situation, we were refused service outright. I understand boundaries around closing time, but there was zero compassion or flexibility shown. Most recently, I was purchasing a dozen bagels and noticed pre-bagged bulk bagels in plastic bags off to the side. Since I was traveling and needed the bagels to stay fresh for a couple of days, I asked if mine could be placed in those same bags. The first cashier was kind and said yes. Then another employee stepped in (green hair) and made several unnecessary side comments about how "they don't do that" and how the bags "wouldn't keep them fresher anyway." The tone was dismissive and uncomfortable, especially considering I was spending a significant amount of money and simply asking for a reasonable accommodation. It's disappointing because the product is good but good bagels don't excuse consistently poor, unfriendly service. I want to support local businesses, but being treated like an annoyance makes that difficult. read more

As someone who is in denial about being lactose intolerant, I decided to be kind to my body and opt for a dairy free option. I highly recommend not getting the vegan cream cheese if you have problems with texture. I'm not one to be bothered by textures, but something about this vegan cheese really threw me off. It was a bit waxy and reminded me of a darker colored vaseline. It didn't sit well with me. I scrapped a lot of it off. And my bagel was a bit tough to eat. Since everyone I love is obsessed with Chewy's, I wanted to give them more than one chance. The next time I ordered takeout with their everything bagel and did their breakfast sammie with added bacon jam. This was so much better and I enjoyed it a lot more. I was concerned the bacon jam would be too sweet, but it was just right for me, especially since it was mixed with other things like cheese, egg, and the bagel. I think as a whole the breakfast sammie worked well. I'm happy to have finally tried this spot. It's in a great location for me. I love having places I can bike to. Although I'm not as crazy about it as other people, I'd think about trying it again at a later time. read more
